  • I first set eyes on a vintage De Havilland Tiger Moth aircraft at Gawler gliding club near Adelaide with my plane-mad, aero engineer late Dad in 1966, when I was five. I tried to get him into one for a joy flight in 2012 but the cancer made it too uncomfortable (did get him up in a Bonanza though). Now over 55 years, one pilot’s licence, and a few other things later, my son bought me a flight in one out at Lilydale airfield. What a blast to finally fly in a “Tiger”!! Thanks Spence. Hope Grandpa was watching...

I learn one one in 1957 at Moorabbin.

I flew the Tiger Moth at Biggin Hill Airfield in 1960. A super aeroplane. They sold for 800 pounds each, when the Surrey and Kent Flying Club changed over to Pipes aircraft!

Agree - did a few (about 250) hrs in GA/RA a/c here before I got into that Tiger Moth, and there was nothing quite like it!

I am sure he was watching, why wouldn't he be!
