It's time to revisit a classic Mario sports game with one of my best friends Zan Alda! Back in the day we used to crush this game and we're excited to see how it holds up.

Supercharged Characters! - The captains from Super Mario Strikers are back, joined by four new ones, and now you can create your own original team by mixing and matching your captain with an all-new cast of sidekicks. All characters have their own sets of special abilities, making each one play completely differently from one another. New captain super-abilities and sidekick skill-shots add a new level of depth to already crazy soccer battles on the most unpredictable and hazard-filled pitches in the Mario universe. Each field features its own set of interactive hazards that alter game play over the course of the game. **Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Game Play! - There are tons of new single-player modes, from tournaments to challenges to tutorials, but the game truly shines in multiplayer. The game features a robust multiplayer mode-up to four players can battle locally, or they can go online in each specific sales territory for one-on-one matches. **Kickin' Wii Controls! - Building on the frantic fun of Super Mario Strikers, this game gets you into action only possible on the Wii. Primary game play controls use both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck controllers. Use the Nunchuk to control your characters and deploy items. Flick the Wii Remote to perform the defensive "Big Hit" move and flatten foes. To defend against a "Mega Strike" goal attempt, use the Wii Remote to point at the screen and manually defend against multiple balls as they rocket towards the screen!

FIFA on the Wii was genuinely really fun, they had a mode where you could swap to Mii characters

This Mario sports series is the best I’ve ever seen. Basically gives the rules of soccer/football the middle finger and goes with it. And out of all the Mario sports games this is the one that needs another installment.

Yeah but it is such a missed opportunity to not put a sequel on Switch. It’s easily the most beloved Mario Sports franchise and I am baffled that it didn’t get any more follow ups.
This is exactly how I feel about SEGA and the original Sonic Riders.

@@UltimateGamerCC they could go the RPG way like the old GBC sports games where you build your team and improve it along the way. I know Nintendo doesn't like that kind of thing anymore, but I can dream

Loved this game. Peach and her "Freeze Frames" were surprisingly a good choice to take down the final captain in the main mode... along with Dry Bones, Monthy Moles, and Hammer Bros. as regular players.
Yeah peach went from a damsel in distress to a sassy teen
And bowser is probably best power character
Say what you will about items and how they make skill useless but honestly, there’s this constant intensity that comes from items and makes it so that you always have to be at the edge of your seat. They basically say “Don’t get too comfortable!” every time.
I am so “charged” for this episode.

Loved the replay of this and definitely think we need a sequel. Small correction is that Mario Super Sluggers also included items if you had chemistry in your batting order making Strikers one of two games to do so

I think we know the reason we didn't get a sequel. Nintendo didn't like the portrayal of Mario and friends in this game. Especially Waluigi and his crotch chopping. That's too "hardcore" for Mario and thus, Nintendo won't revisit this game... and if they did, it'd be toned down quite a bit.
And lets not forget peach and daisy's..........sass

Just today I got the game. From seeing this review and the promotion materials for battle league, looks like charged is the superior version.

This game was literally the only time the Mario cast had actual personalities and not just brain dead like every other game

Mario tennis on N64 had items in one specific game mode! Dropping bananas from your ball and firing shells at the other team!
Back when I was in middle school, I had Mario Strikers Charged. Omg, I remember I was obsessed with this game for a while. It pissed me off a lot sometimes. I overall loved it, but man it was hard at certain times! Great review! Really brought me back to simpler times.

Still the only soccer game I ever enjoyed playing.
I loved this game when I was younger, and still do to this day. Being a huge soccer fan makes it all the more appealing, naturally, but even beyond that it's just so much chaotic fun. Never did play it online though, and never really had friends to play with either. Would love to see it brought back on the Switch, too.

I remember that me and my brother would play this game every time. And every time it was practically a war zone. We both were so competitive in this game and whenever we got a super shot it felt like an accomplishment.
Got that N64 Blitz 2000/2001 at the beginning, a lot of nostalgia there for me.
Funny thing is, I was just about to attempt the last cup after a year hiatus
I remember LONG nights of playing the gamecube Mario Strikers with friends during a sleepover, but never got a chance to play Strikers charged, luckily I found it the other day at a thrift store so I'll be playing it with my roommates soon :) Thanks for the video!

This game still is one of my favorites but it broke me. Roughly 15 years ago after doing the hardest difficulty about 100 times in a row only to be tackled by a frickin plant from half way across the field who then turned around with 2 seconds left of the game immediately scores (this was every game that I was about to win), my last match I ever played I finally had enough and threw the disc at the ground, shattering it. I never lost my cool ever like that, but I have mixed feelings of vengeance and regret. Love the series, hate the plant

Absolutely loved this game, my favourite Wii game and probably my favourite sports game of all time. Loved the video and you're absolutely right we 100% need a sequel and/or port IMMEADIATELY

With basketball, dodgeball, volleyball
There were items as far as I remember
For example a coins that would add to the point (or damage in dodgeball, since you needed to be KO'd to be out)

I have a funny memory of this game. For I think my 8th birthday, there we're a few things on my wishlist, but this game was the thing I wanted the most. So that's what I told all my friends who we're coming to the party. So I had gotten two copies of this game for my birthday, and had to return one of them.

This is also the game that gave us the legendary “hi I’m daisy” voice lines. (Seriously for some reason she has way more personality in a handful of Mario sport games than the rest combined)
the "hi I'm Daisy" lines actually started with Mario Kart Double Dash....
