That track @ 8:00 is actually pretty good! :D I forgot my question.. :P Did you do anything to the cylinders after the vinegar and before trying to move the pistons? No honing/sanding/anything?
The only time I've seen Rust related problems that bad was when Baldwin was indicted... Does that qualify as a DDJ (Dark Dad Joke)? I digress. Thank you for the video. You R the "Old School Budget Racer Whisperer"...
I’ve built quite a few SBCs in my time and I could never understand why everybody wanted to use 4 bolt blocks.I don’t know what GMs thinking was when they designed the 4 bolt blocks because they aren’t a true 4 bolt, they made the 3 centre mains 4 bolt but the end mains 2 bolt, the ends of the crank carry most of the centrifugal load, especially the rear main as it usually carries a flywheel and clutch, or a heavy torque converter full of oil and some transmission load, that applies to both auto and manual. Can someone tell me why the 4 bolt blocks were designed this way. t
Thanks for taking the time to record and post this video. Pretty cool to see someone try and bring an old rusty small block back to life! So, do you have any updates on the block? Have you taken it to the machine shop yet?
Not yet. Have had other things going on. This is going to be the replacement for when the engine in the car now let's go (I built that one specifically to blow up... lol) but the car is not ready yet. Still have to get the 9" in the car, subframe connectors and driveshaft. Then we will be ready. Once that is done the block is going to the machine shop.
It is generic music that is in the app I use to make my videos. There are thousands of songs like this that can be used in UA-cam videos so you don't get hit with copy right issues. The app I use is called Power Director. I do all my recording, editing and posting on my phone.

010 blocks doesn’t matter. A block is a block. Although some of the 73 and older 4 bolt blocks have 2482 nodular main caps. Those are the lighter casting later 70s block
I have never had a problem with any blocks but I have always been told that the 010 blockes were higher nickel content and more desirable. Never mattered to me one way or another.
@@oldschoolbudgetracing1458 yeh I was just saying technically you have the least desirable of all the stock blocks. The older blocks with 2482 nodular 4 bolt caps are the better ones. But the real best factory blocks is the 880 roller 350 blocks there strong
Vinegar is basically a mild Acetic acid. So given enough time it will start to eat aluminum and even iron. So it's not agood idea to leave it for extended amounts of time. But something like this it does work great for removing oxidation and rust.
@@oldschoolbudgetracing1458 pretty awesome love learning new things didn't know something like this would work so well everyone i see uses things like purple cleaner or gasoline or the such nice extra alternative to those

You get a thumbs up just for the intro!!!👍👌❤️
This is awesome. Have some marvel mystery soaking in my 20r, ole $100 Toyota engine. Lets compression test it :D

hey this is how the block looks on my new project! here I was about to tear it out and dump a whole bunch of money into a 61hp engine haha
Gave you a subscribe
Thank you

Call me crazy but if one bolt is X strong then two bolts is probably 2X strong.
So say my block is still in car if I pour the vinegar in once I put my head back on I’ll be okay to jus crank it up or should I drain oil as well
You would have to get the venigar out of the cylinders first
@@oldschoolbudgetracing1458 right with some towels but an fry it off I’m jus making sure I ain’t gotta take block completely out
@itsyaboigordy9361 no, you are fine as long as you can turn it over by hand first.
I have this problem, what did the machine shop say, is it save able? My block looks exactly the same inside the cylinders
You can use ATF too. It will dissolve rust.
Nup
It won’t. I build trans for a living and see rusty internals all the time despite atf in the pan.

Good music
Just take the pistons out and clean them then hone the bore out lol

@@chrishookins9780 in the intro, yes, I was talking about the music throughout the video. The outro is "all over me" from Drowning Pool.

never knew vinegar helped with corrosion, is there a limit to this like leave it in to long and it eat away at something like idk aluminum?

@@АлександрКастомович that I do not know. I just used straight vinegar.
This is frequently used by body guys to prep panels that have mild flash rust. Like using prep and etch, but thinned some with water...50% I think?
Why wait a week to pull an engine apart?
Was not in a hurry. We swapped in a differant engine. This was just an extra.
