I bought my 07 new and just rolled 81K miles. I dealt with the IWE for almost 11 years. Had it in 3 different ford dealerships when it was still under warranty at least 5 times and they could never figure out what was wrong, they replaced the solenoid with the upgraded cover and the vacuum lines. The "grinding noise" remained at times while driving. So last year i finally said i was going to fix it if it came down to replacing every component in the IWE system. I replaced the hubs, the check valves, and finally threw on another (now the 3rd) solenoid and it finally is fixed. After 11 years, cost me about $300. Your videos assisted with all the work ive done and ive learned alot about doing my own minor repairs. Thank You!
I think your talking about the 4wd, had same issue, would just engage while driving, scary. Turned out to be the switch, had to replace it twice. (After replacing solenoid).
I worked in dealership an 08 came in for smell as if something was burning and rear tire vibration, turned out to be the rear parking brake sticks a common problem. You know your stuff, even guys in the shop never talked of all you explained and went over, and just covered. It was a real learning experience.
Love the videos! I'm in a 2008 F150 2wd 4.6.......so far 218,000 on it and thanks to videos like yours I'm able to stay out front of future problems. I have not been on the side of the road yet.
I love watching these videos. Thank you. I have an 04, and have 86k on it currently. I have been doing all of your tips, and thankfully my truck has been solid.
Wish I would've seen this before I bought my 06 Mark LT! As I was watching, I was saying, "Yep, replaced that... Yep, that one too, yep, yep, yep, that one, uh huh..." Glad I sold it!
I was going to look at a 2005 4x4 with 131000 miles, it changed my mind I’m so glad I found this video, thank God, and thanks to people like him that exposes this type of mechanical problems ,
I got a newish truck inspected and there was a common problem with water leaking into the engine air filter. Basically had a moldy filter. Only $30 to replace but it was never stated in the inspection. If I didn't read up on it I would have never checked for at least a year.
Exactly no one is taking a car apart for 150.00 and owner will also not let you take his car apart to inspect it only visual inspection and if it is bad it’s a used truck normal wear . If you don’t want issues buy new
@@mplscarsales6652 I use a 15 foot bore camera that hooks to android phone ($5amazon buy) and do a proper inspection of anything I'm buying. Including inside the oil and trans pans and radiator. No need to take off anything except dipsticks and radiator cap
@@cluelessblamer518 never trust vehicle inspection if you aren't friends the person doing it, almost noone cares about some random person's bad car purchase and the dealers & big shops believe if you came there for an inspection you'll come there for repair so they'll be even less likely to tell you it's not right.
Seriously thinking about buying an '07 Lariat that's up for sale right now, I'm so glad I watched this video first. I'll know what to look for when I pop the hood.
Wow and actual avalanche of wonderful experiences earned knowledge. CONGRATULATIONS! on your new used truck. You are what gives me piece of mind owning an f150 (2016 model). Thank you you for everything you do.
Could have used this two years ago before buying a 2006 5.4 3v F150 that has been nothing but problems with engine and exhaust from day 1. But glad it is out there for others to avoid the pitfalls of these beasts.
I did the cam phaser lockout and tune, and a new high volume oil pump in my 2010 5.4L...very pleased with the results. Did this after I lost oil pressure in -30C weather.
2004 f150 5.4L 3V. 386,568k on the truck and counting, with original engine, trans and differentials. Did the timing job when I bought it at 160,000k and have never had a major issue since. Minor engine issues were, one roller follower bearing was rattling, replaced both VCT solenoids and that’s the only engine work done to the truck. besides your typical spark plug job. Best truck I’ve owned to date! Wether it’s +30 Celsius or -30C this truck wont stop. Maintenance is key!
Wow! You went more than outta your way to explain everything! If there were more people like you in this world it would be a much better place! Thank you for your time sir..
My only previous truck, back in the 70's was a 57 Chevy. I bought a '05 F150 three years ago without knowing all this stuff. I lucked out and got an ex-utility company regular cab XL that has the 4.6 two valve engine. It's basic. This channel has helped me realize what to look for and what to spend money on... especially oil changes. I expect that I will be looking at the differential and transfer case fluids this spring. Thanks for all the great info Brian. No BS and no lies. You are a great resource to all us Ford owners.
@@mph5896 -- It got regular service at the electric company so I figured with close to 200k miles it would be 'good enough' for my infrequent use. So far, so good.
I truly enjoy my 2012 F-150 Lariat 4x4. I bought it used in 2019, and made improvements from new wheel & tires, new radiator, air filter, tune-up, battery , new stereo, had the oil, transmission & differential oil changed, change hoses & belts, new brake pad’s & rotors all the way around, new front hubs, new rear shocks and new headlights. It’s running great. Just trying to keep it as long as I can.
Holy cow...I have an '04 and always was puzzled about that cold howling noise. I never figured it out in 15 years...but now I know! I would never have guessed it was the alternator.
I noticed it too in cold weather for years. I just replaced my alternator on my 2006 last month. It was cracked. Ford lied and said it was 130 amp when I bought truck new (HD model) but it was only 110amp. I still have the "false advertising" original window sticker.
Thank you! Your video was exactly what I was looking for! I can tell you love the truck even as you explain it’s surprising engineering flaws. I just bought a 2005 F-150 lariat with 118,000 miles and this showed me exactly what to look for to confirm it was in sound condition and what I’m going to have to do to her as these problems manifest. Thank you again! Keep up making videos!
I have an 08 with the 4.6 2valve and don't see much about it on this channel, and I love this channel. I hear it's definitely the better option for longevity and reliability. With a hard 169k on it I would have to agree with that statement.
Jason Palmer yes. That 4.6 is the way to go if you like the 11th Gen body style and don't tow anything heavy. I would love to have a 04-08 with the 4.6. You have a solid truck!
It's not the "big dog" but it's the proven reliable engine that has been refined and updated over the years. Keep it maintained and torque those spark plugs properly and you shouldn't have any issues with it for a very long time.
My Ford expedition 5.4 2valve is going on 340k and still runs like new I did the timing chain and lash adjusters and rocker arms where just changed and the engine was super clean when the work was done, and regular service has always been done, and on a side note I do love your videos thank you so much!!!!
Can't believe it's been almost 10 years since I bought my 1997 F-150 XLT from original owner. 118,000 miles, body and paint like New, she paid $3,000 for the camper shell, and $27,000 for the truck in 1997. Needed a brake job, tires, and new front end parts bringing the total to $7,500 I paid. I have never loved a vehicle as much as I do this truck.
Shortly after I bought my used 06 I noticed that at 60mph I would start hearing this chain rattle noise. It was my 4X4 selonoid failing. Luckily I didnt damage my gears in the hubs. Also the timing chain tensioners and guides failed. I changed all that and the entire valve rockers and lifters. It was a 900.00 job but my truck runs great now. Good video my brother, You hit on ALL the errors I had
Thanks Brian for all you have done. My son and I were very leery on making the purchase of a 2006 crew lariat we did yesterday. We stumbled upon your video and watched it as we traveled 100 miles to inspect his first Ford product. It really helped make our decision easier. A lot of things you discussed were already taken care of by the previous owner. Keep up the good work. I am on an island, as my dad and brother are die hard Chevy loyalists.
Brian, you're best video to date!... I had an '06 and many of the defects you point out had indeed failed on mine. 167k miles and the desire for a new Ford F150 had me part with it. They're still great trucks but like any other, require routine & preventative maintence. Thanks for your support.
Glad to see another another truck video. I have an 08 f150 with 61000kms. Never driven in winter and I have never had one problem. My 03 marauder however has quite a few issues but I’m working on it. Love ur vids. Always very informative
I've never been a fan of electric vehicles but all of the pros and cons following this video, maintenance issues, Ford vs GM,etc. is making me start to believe in them
For whatever reason, I am fascinated by the engineering of this engine. Yes it is a fickle design but I love the design of the SOHC, and the long barrel spark plug at the center of the combustion chamber. Very short sighted engineering but still an interesting design that fascinates me
Great info. I have an 08 F150 so this video is spot on. Had no idea water gets in thru the 3rd brake light and runs down to rot the cab corners. I'm going to silicon the crap out of that light seal tomorrow. Thanks.
Excellent video - good camera work, very informative and entertaining dialogue. I'm in the market for a 2005-2014 F150 myself and although I was aware of some of the issues before, I still learned a lot from watching this video - definitely a channel worth subscribing to.
Buying an 2005 F150 4x4 Lariat Supercrew with 77,000 one owner miles. Picking up tomorrow. Immaculate condition, like off the showroom floor. NC truck no rust. My 5th Ford truck in 27 years. Still own a 2003 Supercrew with 240,000 miles on it. Ford rocks the truck world IMO.
Damn, that bay is from the midwest. I live in NV and have an 07 and it looks new. 202k. Put in new solenoid, new plugs(mine were not stuck), new coils, and run thinner oil. Runs great!
Great information Brian thanks for all that great info. keep up the good work, I wish other mechanics would give more information like this, I learned a lot! I’m a mobile auto mechanic and come across so many different issues with people I appreciate the information. thanks, Doug
Thanks for pointing out that the F150 can be a good truck if you are a mechanic and can fix all the crappy designs Ford engineers incorporated in them. I love Ford trucks, repairing all the broken ones paid for my first house and with the Eco Boost and other engineering faults on the newer ones, I'm on my way to setting aside a nice retirement. Got to love Ford if you are in the repair business.
If you’re looking at this generation F-150 do yourself a favor and look for a 2wd truck with the 4.2 V6. I bought one new in 2006 and worked it hard for 10 years and over 200k. Thing was freakin stone reliable! I loved it! I was OCD about maintenance and it never let me down! Only sold it when I did is because I had gotten married and my wife wanted something with an automatic so she could drive it if she had to. I still miss my 5-speed! 👍
Thank you for sharing your expertise Brian! Just completed Ford 5.4 timing kit following your videos; and I follow all of your maintenance suggestions. Thank You!!
I swear, I applaud you on these videos more like very grateful that you make people aware what they are getting into before purchasing certain Ford editions. I didn't know this channel existed until my mom purchased a used 08 Expedition (long story short: asshole ran stop sign smacked into my mom's 04 Exped so hard it bent the frame.), I searched everywhere (100mi radius), for another Exped for my mom and found an 08 Expd with 153K miles and at that's all she could afford without going into payments. That was 4yrs ago I take care of my mom's Exped more like baby it as best as I can she's 80yrs old now and still drives like a commercial driver. It has 207K now and still drives solid, I change some things on it either OEM or better but when it comes to oil and transmission I'm strict in replacing them on schedule (except oil instead of 7,500 I change it at 5,000). I still can't fathom how Ford wants to save some pennies by not putting a dipstick for the transmission. Thanks for this great video and another listings what to look for for my mom's truck. God Bless you & to your family.
Fantastic video. A lot of the issues I have dealt with on my 2005 with the exception of the rusting and corrosion issues and it being 4.6L with 327,000 miles. The only thing I could add are the multiple issues with electrical windows and such that turned out to be the wiring passing through the driver's side door jam to the door. Several power wires that just broke off inside the boot seal. Very hard to find and impossible to see. Not corrosion related.
No worries my 05 f150 just let loose at 227,000 miles a few weeks ago. My silly ass went out and got a 08 f150 with 177,000. Gonna be selling it here shortly.
I *just* found this video (and channel) about 5 months after buying my 2005 Ford F-150 FX4 Lariat 4x4 SuperCrew 5.4l 3v with 117,300 miles... I thought I had researched it pretty well before I bought it, but I never saw any of this info around. Kinda wish I had, but it doesn't matter now. I will have to deal with many of these issues, but the truck I bought is still worth it. The guy selling it was short on details and had a great photographer to sell, but I'm happy I bought it. It came down a few hours south of the Chicago area to get to me and I really wish the seller would have stopped by your shop on the way down!! The way I look at it is that any vehicle is a money pit, so I'll take the bad with the good and enjoy the ride. Besides, I couldn't go through a school for mechanics as cheaply as I got my truck and I'm gonna learn just as much with all the hands-on training I'm gonna get! Thank you for the channel and all the excellent information you provide. It really is appreciated! Now, I'm off to subscribe to the channel so I don't miss anymore of the info I need to keep 'the beast' running!
@@robertoarriola-bustamante9169 I paid about the same as you. Found lots of hidden problems that the seller concealed, but I am still happy with the truck. Wish I had found these kinds of videos before I bought it because that would have helped in the price negotiations. Also wish I could find the guy again, but it was an online find and he's a ghost in the wind. Live and learn...
had every one of those problems except the phaser and rear main seal leakage on my 08....that fuel pump driver module will eventually get you ...mine stalled out at burger king drive thru..fun times.
I had an 04 for 14 years, and I had to replace all 4 window regulators and repair the suicide door cables. Not to mention the broken spark plugs on removal.
Hi Mike, I’ve watched many of these guys videos and used a lot of his advice. I trust his word. My problem is I bought an 04 f-150 and it ran for the first couple of months. Then I took it on the highway and had to step into the gas pad. A little bit to accelerate to get on the freeway one day and all of a sudden felt like somebody hit me from the rear end Very hard. And I didn’t have the money to have the transmission looked at, but it wouldn’t happen all the time just sometimes when I had to accelerate it just felt like someone running into the rear end of my truck every time. So I got money together and took it to our local expert Shop where I live in Grandview Missouri. This is a chain of transmission shops called certified transmission. I take it in explain to the guy what the truck is doing and he tells me I need a new transmission, main seal so I say okay after five visits I’m still having an issue like my transmission is slamming and my second transmission installed, I don’t know what it is. Maybe I should take it to a Ford dealership? Has anyone ever heard or doubt with a situation like this before I’d appreciate it if I could get some help and stop the bleeding at the pocket
Those are highly sought after........hang on to it.........it's well worth a new motor and tranny if it's worn out........newer one's are not as good.......modular engine's are much harder to work on........
I must say - You can either scare the shit out of someone buying these trucks. OR Make someone feel better about buying one. I've been turning wrenches for 35 yrs. Mostly Chevy - then everything when I worked in a shop. That being said - I have not worked on anything newer than a 2000 model. So most of the fuel injection & computer stuff was still pretty crappy at that time. The big boys were still figuring it out. Now I just work on & build engines for vintage Air-cooled VW's & my own vehicles. I was doing research as I was looking to buy an F-150. I had found 3 local trucks. 2006 - 2007 & 2008 / I came upon one of your videos. I must add - you seem to really know your S**T !!!! Very informative - you break everything down. You show tools - parts & part #'s. Keep up the good work. Too many shops just blow smoke to make the money !!! Thank you !!!
impressive the amount of knowledge you have on these trucks. Thanks for sharing. Can't imagine how many people you helped out with this... myself included. You're spot on with some of the issues I have on my 04
Oh man very high professional skills and experience thank you so much I was looking for this video all over the Internet because I’m planning to buy F1 50 again thank you very much
So it's a great truck if you pay Ford out of pocket to rebuild it with Ford's redesigned parts that they botched in the first place? Why not just buy something else that doesn't have any issues and was properly engineered? And to Brian: You have the best information and delivery on youtube. Keep it up... The info you provide us is invaluable when clients bring us these vehicles.
@Charles Ball Actually, I don't need luck. The method I've used has worked flawlessly for the past 25 years. Not a single design fault or failure to deal with.
@Charles Ball Exactly! I'm glad Ford actually updates their designs, fixes their problems, and delivers to their customers. I'm irritated that some things weren't done right from the get-go but after owning a Subaru I can deal with updating a few parts as necessary.
@@LynxStarAuto Speaking specifically, Toyota is making the best engineered cars and trucks right now. Just my experience as an auto tech. The things just break less than everything else, or not at all.
Man.... Watching your video, I forgot how many repairs I did or had done to my '04. When I traded it in, I had the wheel ends, actuators, the struts, control arms, stabilizer links, the selenoid for the wheel ends, the brakes, the lower steering shaft, shocks, the cold air intake, the exhaust, the serpentine belt, 2 tune ups, the 17" rims to 18" rims, fog light assemblies, and mode blend door for the air conditioner & heater. It was a great truck for the 14 years I had it, but my biggest mistake was not rust proofing it and oil spraying it every year.
I have a 2013 with the Coyote V8 with 223,000 miles and it runs great and uses less than 1/3 quart between 6,000 mile change intervals. Best truck I have ever owned (so far). I am not too sure about the newer ones ...
I have a 2005 F150 STX that I purchased new. Currently sitting at 120000 miles. Still runs great...no major issues. Had to fix the rear door latch myself. Only thing I have had done at dealership was problem with a loss of vacuum between the gas tank and the engine. Plan on keeping it at least 5 more years 👍
Nice video. My 04 4.6 has 190k. As long as the frame stays good and body is decent I’ll fix anything that’s wrong with it. I keep my frame coated and oiled on the inside along with my rockers so it should last a long time.
I would buy one, pick it up for the right price and fix stuff as it comes up. They're solid as far as the frame, body, etc. but have some spots that are known to fail which have been updated with much more reliable components and there are maintenance steps that can be taken to prevent these issues. If I could find a nice one for $4k or less I'd buy one.
In general, where can you find a reliable/honest full used vehicle inspection? Should you take it to a nearby dealer? And how much should you expect to pay for such an inspection?
The moment you said that the bad bearings in the pulleys sound like a power steering pump, I was brought back to when I purchased my 08 Ford Escape. When I asked the dealer about the sound, he said "all of these cars make that sound, it's nothing to worry about" (obviously, I got that in writing). A year later, I was driving up past Houghton Lake, MI and something broke- it didn't feel right, power steering was gone, the temp shot up, and I got all kinds of warning lights. Turns out that one of the idler pulleys seized up and nearly disintegrated the serpentine belt. Moral of the story to everyone else is to get everything in writing and to watch videos or read articles on common failure points of particular vehicles before you buy them.
Strut/spring replacement is very straighforward. If you have an air compressor, and a strong 1/2" drive impact gun, it's an easy diy repair. Brian did a video on it, very helpful and comprehensive info. Pay attention to the lower bolt retorque procedure with vehicle weight on suspension so you don't destroy lower bushings on new struts.
Wow, I was considering an 06' brand new. Glad I bought a Titan instead. I was always a Ford guy, but the Titan (not without its own issues) was cheaper, had more valves (4) and more gears , 5. Still driving it today, but the rear end leaks oil...biggest weak point on the titan was rear diff, which is probably Fords strongest point.
My 08 STX has had the brake light on for the last 3 years. First it was intermittent, then steady. Rang out the wires, switch, and decided I was not worried about it. But now I know why, thanks.
I’ll keep my 2010 as long as I can. I’ve seen a lot of 09/10’s with rotten cab corners lately. I’ve had me truck oil sprayed yearly since new, it’s kept it looking good underneath. Awesome video!
I have a 2006 f150 "heavy duty payload" 4x4. It's got 102k miles. Bought new and it's been pretty good overall. I bought a programmer which improved the performance and mpg both after fixing the intake restriction and putting a magna flow in place of the stock muffler. The problem I have is these automakers deliberately designing things to fail. They lie on the window stickers about alternator ratings. They only put 110 amp alternator in my truck which is listed at 130amp on window sticker. Others have said same thing. Power steering lines rusting out is completely preventable with stainless lines. I fix my own stuff and I think only because I dont drive the f150 daily has it lasted this long without any major issues. It will be likely be my last Ford as I can't justify supporting companies that cut corners like the big 3.
@@delbirky4163 all I did was remove the restrictor pipe at the fender and replace it with 3" abs straight pipe. It fights tight in existing fender hole. Stock airbox from there
@@delbirky4163 no code. Not sure why it would be throwing a code. It's just a piece of pipe that's bigger than the original one that reduces from 3 to 2 inches at the fender. It allows more air in. It got rid of the lag when you try to accelerate.
@@delbirky4163 Maybe.....clean throttle body with SeaFoam spray....and a bottle in the gas tank. Can't hurt and costs little to nothing. Isn't there MAF spray cleaner to use. Cheap fixes...maybe?
Well since I’m gonna be new to Ford and like the older models. I’m glad I found this video now. Thank goodness I don’t live up north with one of these. Very informative
I have an 08 f150, getting ready to turn over 250,000 miles. Had to replace transmission, repair timing chains, but other than that small issues like plugs and regular oil changes keep my baby running. Full synth oil since day one, and a capful of prolong after oil change.
I was fortunate to have a relative work for the ford house, so I got a discount, but, if I remember clearly what I did pay was around 800 or so for parts. There was a ticking in the engine, so I had it checked out. I guess around 200-225,000 miles or near there, the chains start to get stretched and are due to be replaced.
This is what I needed.... Thank you so much!! I have a knocking/ticking noise in the driver side engine compartment that is synchronized with the RPM. I believe this video will help me track it down. I have seen every 5.4 3v video you have ever made and it all made sense when you described the sounds and issues while pointing them out on the new engine. Thank you again.
I've loved this body style since it came out but with all of the issues they have I never convinced myself to buy one. With all of the helpful videos he has on them I feel confident picking one up if I could get a good price on one, as helpful as his videos are I could fix any of these issues myself--his video on repairing a blown spark plug helped me immensely in doing one on my V10 F250 and it hasn't had any issues since.

Exactly
I bought my 2007 XLT 2 wheel drive new. I'm on the third full AC system replacement. 109,000 miles. No other major problems and it still looks good.
I did the cam phaser lockout and tune, and a new high volume oil pump in my 2010 5.4L...very pleased with the results. Did this after I lost oil pressure in -30C weather.
How many miles did it have?
Just bought an 2008 F150. 4.6 4x4.. it's in great condition, really well taken care of. These videos are great!
You are a great resource to all us Ford owners.
marscruz 👍 the 4.6l 2v is solid as can be
@@mph5896 -- It got regular service at the electric company so I figured with close to 200k miles it would be 'good enough' for my infrequent use.
I've been wondering that too!
I just saw this same one!!! Fn plastic crap!
2 valve on a 08?
329000 on my 4.6
I see tons of these trucks still on the road 2023 in the south.
My Ford expedition 5.4 2valve is going on 340k and still runs like new I did the timing chain and lash adjusters and rocker arms where just changed and the engine was super clean when the work was done, and regular service has always been done, and on a side note I do love your videos thank you so much!!!!
What years did ford made 5.4 2 valve?
I want to say 1997 too about 2004 that's The year's of the 5.4 2valve engine. And in 2005 The 5.4 3valve was introduced.
Waiting to roll my last 3k to make one million miles on my 97. Never had one problem except driver window regulator.
Die hard Chevy loyalists are loyalists because of all the "COMMON PROBLEMS" - and the difficulty of repairing most of them!!
I sure am glad I live in Colorado and this corrosion s*** is a minimal concern for us out here
I live in Montana and you're more likely to have an out-of-stater cause a crash and total your vehicle than you are to have any kind of rust :p
I have to thank you for your videos. I did a timing chain and oil pump replacement, and you videos were invaluable. Again, thanks!
Sean Desrosiers ya with 60k the things practically still new.
I've never been a fan of electric vehicles but all of the pros and cons following this video, maintenance issues, Ford vs GM,etc. is making me start to believe in them
electric kicks ass......no water pump?...no radiator?...so many problems don't exist when you drive golf cart.
Thanks.
Still driving my 2005 with little problems (window switch and parking brake). Solid truck! 15 years!
also driving a 2005. No issues. Ever. Replaced the plugs proactively at 50k. Now at 100k. Probably on borrowed time.
Much respect when someone knows their craft to this level of detail. Thank you for sharing

Great information Brian thanks for all that great info. keep up the good work, I wish other mechanics would give more information like this, I learned a lot! I’m a mobile auto mechanic and come across so many different issues with people I appreciate the information. thanks, Doug
Former Cook County resident. Many a can of wd-40 sprayed willy nilly under the hood. Helped.
I just bought a 2007 and the guy already fixed most of these common problems
That looks like a really clean body! I have a '04 Yellow FX4! Thanks for the video. Mine came from Tennessee, so no rust... unlike here in NY.
Thank You!!
Looking at this truck makes me happy I live in Texas. I have an 03 that still looks new under the hood and underneath. Zero rust anywhere.
I was planning on buying a new 04 when they first came out. boy am I glad I didn't.
im shopping for a used f150 and this is helping me put a checklist of things to inspect, ty!
Bought my 05 f150 a month ago. About to watch this video. Wish me luck.
So? Any updates?

I paid about the same as you. Found lots of hidden problems that the seller concealed, but I am still happy with the truck. Wish I had found these kinds of videos before I bought it because that would have helped in the price negotiations. Also wish I could find the guy again, but it was an online find and he's a ghost in the wind. Live and learn...

Awesome video dude. I’ve had small issues on my 2006. You walked me thru a lot, thanks Brian. Next I’m checking the 4x4 solenoid
I’m looking to get a 06 XLT with 145k miles. How good has yours been?
I had an 04 for 14 years, and I had to replace all 4 window regulators and repair the suicide door cables. Not to mention the broken spark plugs on removal.
Tim Scarborough ya well that’s pretty minor for 14 years with a truck.
You have a ton of knowledge. You should train the young adults looking to get in this field
Thanks Brian, that's very valuable information. I think I'll hand on to my '95 F150 with the 5.0 a little longer.
Dennis Wilkinson yep... That's the way I feel about my 10th Gen 2v
I would keep it until you can’t fix it anymore. The new eco-bull is way too complicated and expensive.
Those are highly sought after........hang on to it.........it's well worth a new motor and tranny if it's worn out........newer one's are not as good.......modular engine's are much harder to work on........
Put a mustang 5.0 in it if you want more power........or a supercharger........
This video make me appreciate my 2008 F150 4.2 with 240,000 miles even more.
I must say -
You can either scare the shit out of someone buying these trucks.
OR
Make someone feel better about buying one.

Very informative, was looking at a 08 model for my son but, now second guessing this purchase.
My dumbest mistake was not putting mudflaps on to prevent rust in lower quarter panels.
Love what you do. But now I’m afraid to start my 04 pickup.

Junior Thompson what weight oil are you using?
I have a 2005 F150 STX that I purchased new. Currently sitting at 120000 miles. Still runs great...no major issues. Had to fix the rear door latch myself. Just curious if you kept it?!
@pdog6565 still have it......plan on keeping it as long as I can. Getting ready to have new stereo and back up camera installed 👍
Nice video. My 04 4.6 has 190k. As long as the frame stays good and body is decent I’ll fix anything that’s wrong with it. I keep my frame coated and oiled on the inside along with my rockers so it should last a long time.
"Coated and oiled" I've thought of doing this. Just curious what you use to keep the frame from turning into swiss cheese.

And the moral is - "don't buy this vehicle second hand." Great in-depth video Brian.
I got my 07 fx4 with extended cab basically rust free for 4800 bucks. Had it for a year now with very few repairs.
23:45 I have the opposite problem. I have to press the driver window button very gently in order for it to close. Not sure why
In general, where can you find a reliable/honest full used vehicle inspection? Should you take it to a nearby dealer? And how much should you expect to pay for such an inspection?
Recently picked up an 08 super cab with 128k on it. So far so good. I really enjoy it so far

Thanks for this video, i checked a few things after watching this and i found that my front coil spring is cracked exactly where you said they would.
Yup super common spot.
You my friend just saved me , THOUSANDS, ! cant thank you enough! def a new subscriber! Thank you again!. cheers , all the way from NC!
Superior , as is the Tundra to the FX4
My 08 STX has had the brake light on for the last 3 years. First it was intermittent, then steady. Rang out the wires, switch, and decided I was not worried about it. But now I know why, thanks.
I’ll keep my 2010 as long as I can. I’ve seen a lot of 09/10’s with rotten cab corners lately. I’ve had me truck oil sprayed yearly since new, it’s kept it looking good underneath. Awesome video!
oil sprayed?
When you change your oil use the old oil to spray inside your frame and inside your body parts
You have totally talked me out of keeping this vehicle
What brand of intake did you use?
@@delbirky4163 all I did was remove the restrictor pipe at the fender and replace it with 3" abs straight pipe. It fights tight in existing fender hole. Stock airbox from there
Did it throw a code? I just tried that like 2 days ago on my 07 and it keeps throwing the code for maf sensor and running horribly.
@@delbirky4163 no code. Not sure why it would be throwing a code. It's just a piece of pipe that's bigger than the original one that reduces from 3 to 2 inches at the fender. It allows more air in. It got rid of the lag when you try to accelerate.
