@@ProvacativeAcorn it’s definitely worth it to go look at it, mine is in pretty good shape with only a minor seat tear and a couple spots in the paint that need touched up. As long as it’s in good shape I’d say it’s a good deal
I'm at 383,878.2 miles on my 2005 f150 XL 2 wheel drive ,8 foot bed. This truck is a hard worker. Keeps me and family safe and I take care of my quarter horse that's what I named my f150. More mods on the exterior since this baby runs grate
I love my 2004 Ford F150 2 wheel drive. I bought it in '08 when I wrecked my '96 F150 300. The price of gas was over $4.00 a gallon and trucks were sitting on the lots. They asked $10,500 but I wheeled and dealed to $7,500 and a bed liner. Been great for 13 years for me.
I have a 2003 XL Sport, that's the 4.2 v6 and stick shift. Bought it new. You can't kill it. It would still pass smog in California, if I was still there. Our trucks would have plenty to talk about. Imagine cartoon versions of our trucks sitting in lawn chairs with a cooler full of beer between them complaining about "trucks today"... lol! 🤣
That’s wild. The blue book price on these 15-20 year old 04-08 f150s with around 120k miles are around $12k And you bought it with 0 miles for less than that. Wild.
My dad had a 4.6 3V from 2010. He had issues with the exhaust manifold gasket and a VCT solenoid, otherwise it was a solid truck. The 3.55 limited slip axle was very capable
@MrTruck What a brilliant comment! Very well said, love it: “Trucks are religion, and it’s just like politics, church, tractor brands... you get what your grandpa did, even though grandpa needed some mental help... that’s what you do! So, take it from me. Start looking at other brands... open your eyes and see what other people are doing or building!”
Heh. I'm in trouble! Was nearest and worked with mother's father - always Ford trucks and cars, but a mix of tractors. My father's father was always GM cars. He passed when I was 13 and I never knew what tractors he used. So what religion do I choose? (I have a Ford in my driveway, and my brother 1/4 mile away has a GMC, maybe that counts as one of each?)
I have the 2007 XLT version of this 2WD Regular Cab truck but silver and with the 6-foot bed 104K miles now. This video has made me appreciate my truck more and helps me justify spending more money to keep it running well. I took out the center jump seat and installed a matching center console.
Four-wheel drive was pretty good in that in the snow when it did work. I had to replace the actuators on mine. But my issue with the four-wheel drive was probably more of the mechanics I used and the Napa products they bought. The actuators would fill up with water. But at least the warranty was lifetime for them
I bought a 2004 F-150 Supercrew XLT Lariat 5.4L Triton 4x4 last April(2020) 164K miles for $3900 with a few problems. Was a great deal love this truck. It is so powerful I barely have to step on the gas or it could light up the tires. I put about $1200 into it and it is now worth about $8500. it averages about 15 mpg, but this is a great truck for towing or to make money with. I also own an '06 Crown Vic so I can drive that if I don't feel like emptying my wallet on fuel. I just love owning a huge full size truck that feels like I'm barely in control of sometimes Lol. Still gets lots of looks even though it's almost 18 years old. Ford did a great job with the 11th generation. If you keep it maintained and don't drive it too hard, it will last forever. I really tried hard to get a Dodge or Chevy Supercrew 4x4, but I only had $4000 to spend. I looked at a lot of trucks, and for the money this was the best one I found and I'm glad I did.
Must be nice my f250 wi5h the 3v 5.4l is slow but shes fun to drive to me. I love it wish it was diesel? Sure but i got this truck for f r e e so im very happy
Maybe I’m not the typical truck owner but I don’t have any brand loyalty. I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn North Edition and I love it. I almost bought an F150 and I had a long look at the Chevy Trail Boss. Honestly I would have been happy with any of those but I got the best deal on the Ram and it had every feature I was looking for so that’s what I chose.
@@salami99 nice. They are really nice looking trucks. For me, it goes Ford, Ram, Toyota, Nissan and if I'm desperate Chevy. How has it been for you so far?
@@romeo1550 Teh truck has been good, it pulls a dually tilt trailer with some rearend hop at the stop but the V6 pulls and its 25 mpg is solid on the freeway. It really an amazingly capable truck for price, I have a hard time justifying buying a better truck since I can afford to and know now I like trucks. The hemi doesn't tow much more and take much more gas so It looks like I'll be keeping this until 100k miles. Personally IDK why I love ram so much interior design and all that I prefer rams It would be Ram>Toyota>ford> Chevy. maybe not even toyota because it's Japanese despite it literally being extremely reliable and great design I just at the end of can't get a Japanese truck I don't know why but that reliability tho.
Fun Fact: The 11th generation was the first truck to have the front bumper tucked in to make the smooth front facia all trucks today have. As well as the boxed frame. So you could say that the 11th generation is the grandfather of today's modern pickup truck
the bumper sticks out about 4-5 inches though? The fascia between the headlights and bumper transition it, so not sure what you are talking about tucked in. The 03 GMC front bumper sticks out less than this Ford. Using a tranistion piece to make it less noticable isnt a smooth front.
@@acreageliving Because the front bumper is not sticking out a foot or more like previous generations. This is the first time Ford did this giving the truck a cleaner look and then the others followed suit.
@@patrickstenson830 not sure what you’re looking at, I have two 11 gen fords right now and that front bumper sticks out more than my 03 Ford F-150 and Chevy!
Yep...still have my '04 5.4 Supercab that I bought new in January '04. Nothing has ever gone wrong with the truck...all you have to do is keep clean oil in it. I moved to a lighter oil and I change it myself every 3000 miles. It looks like honey all the time. Changed the plugs at 80K and they came out nice and easy...looked practically new, too. My truck has a really great drivetrain. Granted, it's not my daily driver and it's garaged...still looks new inside and out. I detail it regularly. Low miles...only 120K. I firmly believe my truck is worth $15,000 if I wanted to sell it, but I won't. I costs NOTHING to own, insurance is cheap along with registration and it looks and runs like new. 17 MPG on the highway, around 14 in town. On the highway I always have about 500 lbs of camping gear in the back. Bilstien shocks, Michelin MS2 tires and it rides like a limousine...otherwise all stock.
@byronlemay2166 I have a 2004, 5.3 with 72k miles and am concerned about changing the plugs. Did you do anything special to prevent them from breaking, like pb blaster days in advance, seafoam, or just a slow removal with a ratchet and socket?
My dad had a 97 XL with the 4.6 and I loved that thing because it in a beautiful shade of metallic green that was well suited to his landscaping business. After owning it for 12 years, he upgraded in 2013 to an 06 XLT with the 5.4 and has had a seamless ownership experience. I still like his old one better, but now that his truck almost as old as that one was when he got rid of it, I can definitely say that the newer truck has held up way better over time. The differences in build quality and technological advancements between those two trucks is night and day.
My farm truck is a 2004 F150 that I bought new with the 4.6 (I think) V-8. Leveling kit, locker in differential and seat covers to keep the cloth seats clean. Great truck.
I'm sorry, the truth is the 2004-2010 trucks is one of the worst era F150 ever. The garbage 5.4 3V with a half-dozen design flaws, IWE problems on the 4x4 system, fuel pump driver module problems due to the idiotic mounting location, frame rusting out issues,.....must I go on?...Not to mention the most uncomfortable seats ever.
I have the same truck - 4.6 with 2 valves purchased off the lot new -and it has been flawless. It does need more power, but if you can be patient it does fine. Ive hauled 7,000 lb loads cross country multiple times no issues yet. Just not setting any speed records. Virtually all the issues you 'hear about' are on the 5.4 engines - avoid those unless the truck has had a recent engine replacement.
I would go with the chevy in these 3. Love the old square bodies. And I want room in the cab for a kid or tools. 8 foot bed with cap is great. But i have a super cab with a 6.5 bed for a reason. I have a 4 year old and wife. And my explorer has seen better days. So long trips are in my truck. Thank god we have bigger cabs now with the extended/super cabs. And they are cheaper since everyone wants 4 doors. I wanted at least the 6.5 foot bed though. So I got a deal on the used 2017 f150 supercab with 35k miles for 27k bucks. 4x4, chrome package, rear locker, tow package, sport mode, power doors and windows. That's all I need. Leveled it and put some 35's on her and a cap. Great truck.
I bought my 2004 when the new body style came out, it was a head turner, at the time I had 22” rims on it because there was no lift kit available at the time, couple years later the lift was available so I installed a 6” lift, custom grill and 35” tires, it’s an xlt blue in color extended cab short bed, it is now 2023 it has 100,000 miles and I still live it, it looks like it just came out of the show room floor,,,, I just added 2” in rear and 3” in front, total 9” in front, still going I get complements on how new it looks 👍🏼🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸
Those ford trucks go like hot cakes! My dad was looking for a used one for a farm truck a year ago and we looked at maybe 10 in two days and they were all sold by the weekend before he could make a decision.
I remember they had an option for a factory built in tool box on some of these trucks. It was super goofy looking but very functional. I couldn't even find a picture on google with that configuration but would love to see that idea brought back for a work truck.
I have the exact same wheels and tires on my 2015 haha. I remember them making a big deal at the dealership about it because they were supposed to only be on the 2016's Told em' I liked them more so they put them on my truck. Eventually I got a levelling kit w/ 35" BFG ko2s and 2 inch spacers for wider stance. It's the 1st vehicle that I didn't trade in after 4 or 5 years, I absolutely love the truck and plan on keeping it. Just did the 100 K service in upgraded bumpers front and rear with push bar.
I recently got a 2002 F-150 with the topper just like that. The motor was replaced with a NEW motor about 4 years ago. So far I haven't done much but clean it, haul out and dump his trash. Then I cleaned and armoralled the interior plastic which almost looked new before I did it. Then today I bought a cheap buffing wheel to put on my drill, took some really old polishing compound, and made the headlights clear again. They had been very yellow. I also bought the hood shocks which hopefully I will replace tomorrow. I should be working on it daily; here a little, there a little.
Bought my '04 supercab with the 4.6l for 4000 with 145K miles. It's a good overall truck and does its purpose perfectly, just wish it had a little more power.
Fr on drove a van on hinge was broken and the door would drop and it’s be a bitch to lift back up and get it to lock again but I got paid by the hour so i didn’t mind
I picked up my 2004 FX4 stepside, extended cab, screaming yellow/FX4 gray skirt about 8 years ago with 100K. Today I have 150K on it. Only normal wear parts. 5.4L, 3-V runs great (I did buy updated OEM phaser kit, yet to install it). Picked it up from AR. Still has nearly zero rust.
Thank you for this video! I was so excited to upgrade to this generation of F150. It did take me until 2007 to be able to afford one. It is so helpful to be reminded why I was so looking forward to upgrading to my 07 super crew 5.4L FX4 with 3.73 rear end. I haven’t needed to use it for towing, but it is great through Southern Utah back roads and trails. It’ll haul through windy roads also! My 5.4 has been trouble free and still running strong. Thanks for reminding me of why I am so happy with my investment. 👍🏻
Worst thing about 2004 f150 was the cam phaser defects and timing chain tensioners destroying engines if you didnt get a $2k timing job done at around 120k miles. other than that, these trucks could been TOO PERFECT, oh and SPARK PLUGS Blowing out lol
I have an 04 with the 5.4 that I have owned since 2007 and it has been a great truck. I have the crew cab 5.5' bed. I have owned other vehicles but keep the F150 since it was my first half ton truck that I bought out of high school.
I have a 2004 Expedition, built on the same frame with the same 5.4L Triton. It's my first Ford and I really like it... but I still prefer my 1995 Dodge Ram 1500. Out of the 3 trucks on this series, I'd have the Chevy.
Just bought a 2007 f150 lariat about 2 weeks ago with only 127,000 miles on it for $11k. Used truck market is insane right now. Found plenty of comparable trucks with higher mileage for more money. Nobody will come down on used truck prices either. I got them to come down $300 on mine (woo-_-). The 5 dealers I was shopping at all told me they don’t need to negotiate because people are paying asking price no questions asked. That being said I love the truck I got and is gonna make a great tow rig which is the only reason I bought it.
I just bought my neighbor 2007 F150 single cab shirt bed with the 4.2 V6. So basically just like this truck just with a dhorter bed and the V6 instead of the V8. I was looking for a V8 at first because i only buy V8s. But then found out about the 4.2 V6 and fell in love after all the research. Only has 150k on the chassis and engine. Transmission had been replaced with a brand new update ford unit at 91k. So the trans now has about 60k miled on it. I said the original transmission was a dud. Because usally these autos are strong. But he said the new one he put in has been good ever since. Paid $4k on the dot, love this truck so much. Owned by a older gentlemen since new. He bought it in his 40s now he is alot older so i know it has been well taken care of.
Thats great news to me because I have one too with 125,000 New tranny, and plugs, wires, alternator. Fun to drive now. Not my daily but a perfect backup.
I have a 2004 F150. FX4 5.4 V8 super-crew. Larger BFG AT tires w/ heavy load rating and leveling kit only mods and it’s in mint condition all-around with only 70K orig. miles. It looks nicer than 1/2 the new trucks on the road today & I get lots of complements. It has been everywhere in Colorado and towed a small camper to Alaska & back. We use it a lot for junk hauling, light towing, camping, etc. it’s far from a daily driver- we use a truck for what it’s intended for. It’s been such a great truck because we’ve taken care of it with good maintenance and not abusing it.
@@onlypositivecontents knock on wood… I’ve had 1 issue with this 17 year old truck. There was an ABS chip that needed replaced at 65K ,$1200 at our local dealer. Otherwise it gets pampered with maintenance and care. We’ve towed a camper CO-AK-CO. Been in some rough CO backcountry, hauled heavy loads, used on a farm for a few years… even the paint is great shape, no peeling fading or any defects. A few very minor scratches & rock chips up front like any old car has. it def got used as a truck but with proper care over years. Maybe we got lucky hard to say obviously Ford made millions of these. The engine “feels” sluggish compared to the new f150s but for its age it is what it is, just how they built them & still has plenty of power.
If you get the 4.2 or 4.6 they are great trucks. 5.4 is where 90% of the issues come from, especially ones that havent been maintained well or modified. I love my 07 4.2 5 speed, the end of an era.
The 4.2 and 4.6 was pretty much carried over from the previous gen. 5.4 3V was a transition engine for Ford so it was prone to have issues. They use a lot of the same tech introduced in the 5.4 3V on the 6.2, 5.0, and 3.5 EB engines today.
That 4.2 is an unusually long lasting engine. That is the Exceter engine. This is basically a stroked 3.8 from the Thunderbird. When they beefed it up to handle the longer stroke, they fixed all of the known weaknesses of the 3.8... no one knew it would be so good. I didn't when I bought my 2003. I was just being cheap. That truck is as loved as an old yellow dog at this point. I also have the 5 speed. Never gonna sell it. She still wags her trailer hitch when I walk out into the driveway each morning. 20 years on, and 300k miles. What a machine!
I just bought my neighbor's f-150 circa 2004 and this made me even more happy about my purchase. Just replaced the battery today. Cheers and thanks for the information. Merry Christmas. 🗽🦅🍻
Ive got an 07 with the Triton and once you change out all the Variable Cam Timing components with all new state of the art FOMOCO components. And change out the spark plugs to the new style they say that the Triton is actually better than the Coyote thats in the new trucks! Love how Ford names its engines!!!!!!!!!!1
Believe it or not, I got mine new in 04 and just hit 200,000 miles. Only major work was replacing plugs and the things that fires the ignition. The amazing thing is that my push buttom door lock pad still works with the original battery. 20 years battery life is amazing. I wish I could find such a lasting battery for my power tools.
I still have my 2004 5.4 FX4. Very few problems. 176,000 and now 20 years old. I love it. Bought it used in 2010 for a third of the original sticker. Looks like a 5 year old truck and 95% original. Runs great drives great.
2001 f150 5.4 triton 2v with 276k driving from south Florida to North Wisconsin loaded with 100 gal fuel tank welder machine aircompresor and a bunch of tools like the first day 💪
Just bought an 04 F-150 STX with 82k miles. Runs great! Unfortunately I didn’t notice a good amount of rust throughout but I’m determined to work on it til it’s perfect.
I really loved the 04-08 f-150. But I hated the plug problem and the cam phaser issues. I just bought a low mileage 07 King ranch. It has 67000 miles. I’m replacing the updated parts that address the 5.4 weakness’s. Hopefully I’ll get 200,000 more miles.
I just bought an 01' f150 for about the same price ($3500), and though it hasn't been long, I already love it. Nothing overdone like the 60k+ (on a deal) luxury-aimed things they're selling now. It's a truck. It carries me, has room for 1-2 others depending (extended cab, not trying to cram 2 people back there), the interior and bed are in nice condition too for a 5yo vehicle let alone nearly 25. And I haven't done it yet, but it can tow 3k lbs which is plenty for me to not worry. Also its doubling as my first manual after a motorcycle, so its teaching me something in a vehicle that wont cost a fortune to fix on.
@@wildbill23c I just noted those 2006-2010 V8 Explorers hold their value rather well and they're kinda rare compared to the vanilla V6 ones. Also the V8s are known to get better fuel economy than the V6 because it runs smoother, feels less taxed and also got a beefier 6 spd.
If I remember right, while the 4.6 Windsor was built for trucks, the 4.6 Romeo is more reliable. The Crown Vic has the Romeo and is known for its reliability. My F-150 has the Romeo and it’s been incredibly reliable.
I had the 5.4 supercrew and traded it for a 5.3 GMC Sierra crew with dealer dual exhaust. That Sierra pulled my Jaco like it wasn't even there. Yes the Ford did a decent job, but that Sierra smoked it. I used to pass the diesel super dutys pulling my trailer up the pass and I'd see those guys rolled coal trying to catch up pulling their rigs. I just laughed like Jimmy Johnson and pulled away.
I may have overpaid for mine somewhat but I use it daily. I bought a 2006 F150 Lariat 3v 5.4L 2WD. Bought it 3 months ago at 322,800 miles. I'm now at 326,120. I use it as my daily/beater.
I think he really was meaning the 4.6 V8 that is in all the crown vics, mercury marquis, and Lincoln town cars......Yes that engine was a legend for reliability.
it is mostly due to people that took to long to do maintenance . I have had friends (3) who bought these new with 5.4. Only one had to redo his engine and it was covered under warranty . So far all 3 have 250 k miles. The 2009 my neighbor has is just about to hit 300 k
Well if that’s the 3v triton get ready for a new motor, once it starts throwing codes for ignition parts it’s engine time. The oil galleries are undersized & they clog up fairly easily, you can fix em, but it’s not worth it.
I'm sorry, the truth is the 2004-2010 trucks is one of the worst era F150 ever. Got a nice and I mean nice 08 f150 4 door 4x4, clean, no dents, camo seat covers, after market exaust with a little bit of a rumble. It doesn’t sound crappy. Its lifted. Everything works. Only $3700 as of may 29 2022.
This is my first truck, it’s an amazing truck still running good with close to 200,000 miles with no lights on the dash at all! I was suprised about that my self. I would recommend an 04 Ford F-150 for anyones first truck .
Grabbed a 2004 f150 Lariat 4x4 with the 5.4. Paid $4000 and it had 140k miles. 20k miles later of hard construction(masonry) and the thing only needed brakes and bearings so far. Gotta love fords
for what I can say, I have a 2004 F150 and it's never gave us a problem.... OTHER than the big one witch was the cam phasers. It rattles every now and then, but we're just going to drive it until she dies at this point. Should have fixed it when the problem when it was a new issue, but that's how she goes. I've been thinking if you had the money to do a 5.0 swap you'd have a very dependable truck. I Wish these engines didn't have the issues they had, but do a 5.0 swap and you'll have a truck that will last decades.
My family has a 2004 f150 extended cab 4 door with the flareside bed and a matching Lear camper shell. It tows everyday with no issues. The back is lifted I’m guessing to tow. Tows 2 food trucks. 5.4 triton with 112k miles
TIP: When checking out a truck, make sure there is no rot just surface rust on the frame or you will spend a small fortune to fix it, maybe even junking it. That is hard to come back from unless you have a lot of money and/or patience and time and like cutting, shaping, and welding new pieces of steel onto your frame. And even then it may not be as strong as before
@@nosvibes9786 I really have no idea. If you have a replacement frame already and not damaged, it should be a straight forward unbolt lift body off and replace so probably several hundred dollars. If you want to fix the frame you have with cutting damaged parts shaping new ones and welding them on then it could be thousands.
Another thing to note is that the ford has 2 separate vacuum actuators. They were mounted to the hub and are active when vacuum is released so to me if they fail they can fail while engaged so you have less chance of losing 4x4
That is true. One other thing to mention is if one actuator fails and the other is still good but only partially engaged due to partial vacuum you can disconnect the solenoid on the firewall which releases vacuum all together essentially giving it a live axle.
OK about printers. My son bought me a Canon Image Class laser printer about 5 years ago. I use it often. It still works just fine, never have had any problems with it. It just works. The Canon ink modules are pretty expenxive but I buy mine from an independent online dealer for 1/4th the Canon price. As for the truck. I had a 2001 F150 with a 5.4L. I had to replace that chintzy plastic manifold. From what I learned all those 4.6s and 5.4s had to have manifoolds replacedd because it was a bad design. Mine had about 150,000 on it when it failed. Some of them also had problems keeping sparkplugs in the heads. I overtorqued mine and never had a problem. Even with those problems I still liked the truck and would buy another one. I am now driving a 92 F150 with the 4.9L which has 160,000. My dad bought it brand new and when he got too old to drive it, I bought from him and when I die my son will get it. A neighbor has a Chey pickup about the same age.
Owned a new body style 5.4 FX4 '04 for 10 years. They are solid trucks short of the engine and cab water leaks(cowl, 3rd brake light). My engine was replaced at 110,000 miles due to phaser/tensioner related oil pressure issues. The boxed frames do rust out. Steering shafts rust tight. The 5.4 pulls well but is underpowered and gets terrible mileage (11ish mpg in my case). I was able to fit 35"x12.5" tires with only 2" lift struts and slight trimming of the OE fender flare behind the front wheels. I'd of kept it, but the musty smell of wet carpet, terrible mileage, and lack of a backup camera pushed me into a '15 2.7 truck. It's better in every way except for the leaky plastic oil pan!
I have a 07 fx4 crew cab that my dad bought when it came out fresh out the dealer it is still in my posesión and I can not explain how many times people have tried to buy it of my hands. The best thing I did to it was just update the shocks to the rancho adjustable shocks and man she rides like a cloud truck has 190k original miles never had issues still has same alternator
I paid 7000 for my 2008 f150 xlt, it has over 200,000 miles but had been so well taken care of I knew immediately the price was worth it. It drives and handles nearly exactly like my grandpas 2014 chevy 1500 Texas edition

About that cab on that truck i have the exact truck but mine is an stx With the 6 foot bed and that same cab during the winter my brother mom and sister wanted to go skiing and i had the only truck with 4x4 so my sister laid down in that cab the 5 hour drive up north. That was 3 years ago i still have the truck. The rust got worse on the bed and frame but i plan on fully top to bottem restoring it. Yeah i know its not worth it and its not a desirable truck but i love it more that anything and had it when i was 15
Not a fan of the 5.4 3v that showed up in 2004 but other than that, these can be tough reliable trucks. I know some have complained about rust but that can happen with any car in the right location. Fuel mileage not the best but if you baby the things can do ok..particularly with the 4.6. They have their quirks but I've seen 2v 10th gens with 300-400+k miles and still going strong on original engines. 4r70W/4r100 trans although antiquated, are tough and can be very reliable as well. 5.4 3v can be 'ok' if you know what to listen and look for and spend $$$$ replacing things before they grenade the engine... avoid the 3v in these trucks. My .02.
Atleast you have the good ole 4 6. The 5.4 3 valve that debuted in this 2004 model and had alot of problems. I've read by 2006 or so they pretty much fixed the problems. I definitely like the 04 redesign of the F150 , it just a great truck design. I have an 03 F150 5.4 and I'd never part with it. It has 407,000 miles, original powetrain. The 97-03 design looked soft but time has shown the 10th generation is about the most reliable. I like the interior of the 04 way better than the Rubbermaid interior of my truck.
That truck would be around 9,000$-11,000$ where I live in the Nc mountains. 4x4 trucks are Gold here, you will absolutely pay 2-4,000 more depending for a 4x4. And only because of the 4x4 and no other reason. The fact I got my 06’ f-150 5.4 v-8 4x4 super crew 4 door with 175,000 miles on it for 8,600$ was only because dude needed the money bad and did not do his homework, the same truck with over 220,000 in way worse shape is going for around 9,000$-10,000 mine Kelly blue books for around 12,000$ right now because it’s still under 200,000 miles . And it’s super good condition. The used truck market in Ashville Nc is CRAZY 😢
I love my 2004, 4.6 still my daily driver. I got with 50k miles and now 14 years later. Its has 260k miles. Drives smooth, AC blows ice cold and heater works great.
I have an 04 F150 with the 5.4 3V.....wish I'd known how much trouble it was....should have looked for the 4.6. A lot less grief once the truck gets older. Unless you have deep pockets $$$$ stay far far away from the 3V engine. Great when new...and it is a great work truck now I've spent thousands to keep it going. Great review.
You can’t find a used truck that nice nowhere near that price in my area. That would be $8000
They go 3-5K all day long around here
I paid 8000 to a private seller for my 07. About as expensive a car or truck should be.

Imagine cartoon versions of our trucks sitting in lawn chairs with a cooler full of beer between them complaining about "trucks today"... lol! 🤣
@@trwsandfordha I like the way your brain works sir/ma’am
That’s wild. The blue book price on these 15-20 year old 04-08 f150s with around 120k miles are around $12k
And you bought it with 0 miles for less than that. Wild.
I had a ‘04 with the 4.6. The only issues I had with it was the window regulators breaking. Good truck overall though.
My dad had a 4.6 3V from 2010. He had issues with the exhaust manifold gasket and a VCT solenoid, otherwise it was a solid truck. The 3.55 limited slip axle was very capable

That's because the 4.6 is probably the most reliable full size pickup v8 of all time. That goes for all Brands to.

@MrTruck What a brilliant comment!
Very well said, love it:
“Trucks are religion, and it’s just like politics, church, tractor brands... you get what your grandpa did, even though grandpa needed some mental help... that’s what you do!
@@Sylvan_dB lol
My 2004 has 118,000 miles. Always been good.
I'll keep it for who knows how long.
It's a keeper.
I have the 2007 XLT version of this 2WD Regular Cab truck but silver and with the 6-foot bed 104K miles now. This video has made me appreciate my truck more and helps me justify spending more money to keep it running well. I took out the center jump seat and installed a matching center console.
My 2004 f150 had 278,000 miles when I sold it couple years ago. Still getting used. Four wheel drive was great. Mine was crew cab.
Four-wheel drive was pretty good in that in the snow when it did work.
I had to replace the actuators on mine.
But my issue with the four-wheel drive was probably more of the mechanics I used and the Napa products they bought.
The actuators would fill up with water. But at least the warranty was lifetime for them
How much you sell your truck for dale?

Still have my 2004 Fx4 I bought in November of 2003! Love it as much as the day I picked it up.
Awesome!
I bought my 2004 when the new body style came out, it was a head turner, at the time I had 22” rims on it because there was no lift kit available at the time, couple years later the lift was available so I installed a 6” lift, custom grill and 35” tires, it’s an xlt blue in color extended cab short bed, it is now 2023 it has 100,000 miles and I still live it, it looks like it just came out of the show room floor,,,, I just added 2” in rear and 3” in front, total 9” in front, still going I get complements on how new it looks 👍🏼🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸
i have a 2005 ford f150 and it has 90k and i love it i have a level kit and some motor mods and off road tires and rides like a dream!
Those ford trucks go like hot cakes! My dad was looking for a used one for a farm truck a year ago and we looked at maybe 10 in two days and they were all sold by the weekend before he could make a decision.
Glad to know my 04 is worth far more than I thought, thank you, made my day.
I remember they had an option for a factory built in tool box on some of these trucks. It was super goofy looking but very functional. I couldn't even find a picture on google with that configuration but would love to see that idea brought back for a work truck.
Had my 04 f150 4.6 for 10 years6, it's been great, i'll keep her till she dies! still runs like a champ.
When that tailgate fell, you could tell Andre is not used to a work truck.

It’s so funny though😂 I’m not even mad at them like a lot of people are. Wouldn’t trade my 2002 for a thing though.
Good to see Andre highlighted the Chevy's tow hooks for quicker recovery when it's stuck.

Worst thing about 2004 f150 was the cam phaser defects and timing chain tensioners destroying engines if you didnt get a $2k timing job done at around 120k miles. other than that, these trucks could been TOO PERFECT, oh and SPARK PLUGS Blowing out lol
That was only the 5.4l v8
I have an 04 with the 5.4 that I have owned since 2007 and it has been a great truck. I have the crew cab 5.5' bed. I have owned other vehicles but keep the F150 since it was my first half ton truck that I bought out of high school.
Stiffest ride out of any other truck I’ve driven. I own an 06 very bumpy and noisy interior but I love it.
Lower your tire pressure if its high, there is a rubber door seal mod to keep the doors from rattling and it works, check on youtube.

I had an 05 with a 4.2 bought it with 400k miles. Still ran like a top. Sold it still running great
The 4.2 and 4.6 was pretty much carried over from the previous gen.

Good thing it's the 4.6 because in that year the 5.4 three valve gave alot of trouble.
I have the 4.6 v8 3v in my 2006 ford explorer and so far so good and it's pretty quick for it's age.

That small V8 was in everything and bulletproof but a fair amount of people had problems with the 5.4 I thought.
Ya don’t get the 5.4
Yeah. Problems. Timing Chains, Camshaft Phasers, and Spark Plugs breaking off in the cylinder head. Otherwise, nice truck.
@@mikejohns3104 🤣
Well if that’s the 3v triton get ready for a new motor, once it starts throwing codes for ignition parts it’s engine time. The oil galleries are undersized & they clog up fairly easily, you can fix em, but it’s not worth it.
I have a 2004 and a 2005 F150s and they are great trucks, both with the 4.6 V-8 XL work trucks! 😎🇺🇸
@@PeeterPuncher Well I guess I better play the lottery because I have not had any of those issues! I drove one of those trucks today 235,000 miles still no issues!
@@PeeterPuncher bro copy n paste this in every comment.. Dam did a ford f150 break your heart bud ?
I have the same truck - 4.6 with 2 valves purchased off the lot new -and it has been flawless. It does need more power, but if you can be patient it does fine. Ive hauled 7,000 lb loads cross country multiple times no issues yet. Just not setting any speed records.
Virtually all the issues you 'hear about' are on the 5.4 engines - avoid those unless the truck has had a recent engine replacement.
If remember correctly, Mr. Truck is a Ford guy(even though buys from all brands). Really cool.
A ford guy that owns 3 chevy 454 powered trucks.
Got a nice and I mean nice 08 f150 4 door 4x4, clean, no dents, camo seat covers, after market exaust with a little bit of a rumble. It doesn’t sound crappy. Its lifted. Everything works. Only $3700 as of may 29 2022.
Can I see the picture?
@@anthonynnamaka553 sure. do you have Instagram? Or Facebook messenger?
I would love to see these 3 trucks on the Ike gauntlet!
I loved my 06 F150 4x. Lasted 20 yrs with only 5k repairs in its lifetime. The timing chain was by far the most expensive.
Always loved fords. Really is a good looking rig. Got a good deal on a pretty mint 1500 2nd gen
I have an 05 f150 fx4 with 370,000 original miles I love it
What oil do you use?
@@CorvetteC6-LS2 I use castrol high mileage 10w30

My family has a 2004 f150 extended cab 4 door with the flareside bed and a matching Lear camper shell. It tows everyday with no issues. The back is lifted I’m guessing to tow. Tows 2 food trucks. 5.4 triton with 112k miles
I have an 05 f150 with the 4.6 only paid 700 for it so far put 30 thousand miles on it and it’s still going strong
And even then it may not be as strong as before
How much would a full new frame install cost?
@@nosvibes9786 I really have no idea. If you have a replacement frame already and not damaged, it should be a straight forward unbolt lift body off and replace so probably several hundred dollars. If you want to fix the frame you have with cutting damaged parts shaping new ones and welding them on then it could be thousands.
I have the same truck but in a crew cab. I pull a 30' camper with it. My truck is an 05 4.6
" Trucks are a religion" Amen to that. Kent is very smart man.
Another thing to note is that the ford has 2 separate vacuum actuators. They were mounted to the hub and are active when vacuum is released so to me if they fail they can fail while engaged so you have less chance of losing 4x4
I did not know that
That is true. One other thing to mention is if one actuator fails and the other is still good but only partially engaged due to partial vacuum you can disconnect the solenoid on the firewall which releases vacuum all together essentially giving it a live axle.
This guy looks like a Red Dead Redemption character
RIP those CV axles with that lift...
Just bought a 2003 heritage edition. Supercab, 4.6, 5speed, 4x4, long bed.
Your going to wear them cv axles out faster with them angles to much angle
That year had axle disconnects so the cv axles aren’t turning when in 2wd.
CV axles are cheap. Even if you get 30k miles who cares. They're easy to replace
I paid 7000 for my 2008 f150 xlt, it has over 200,000 miles but had been so well taken care of I knew immediately the price was worth it.
It drives and handles nearly exactly like my grandpas 2014 chevy 1500 Texas edition
I just bought a 2008 Ford f150 Rear Wheel Drive ,XLT extended cab,Exterior Black, Interior Grey,Mint Condition Inside, But Exterior Has 3 Minor Rust Spots, tunnel cover,It has A lot of chrome, original rims are mint condition, Dosen't need anything for a saftey,Everything That Was Wrong Was All Repaired By Ford,Many $1000s Of Dollars, I'm The Second Owner,It's been Undercoated Every Year Since New, 180.000 Miles And Very Smooth Engine And Ride,It A Very Nice Pickup Truck And I Paid $2500 Canadian Dollars, I Got The Best Deal I've Ever Gotten At Age 57 ,And Their Selling For Upto $10.000 Here In Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 I Only Have To Repair 3 Minor Rust Spots Anf and The Truck Will Look Very Close To New With The Triton 5.4 litre Engine And No Cam Phaser Issue.
That should be a Romeo 4.6. They were a little different than the Windsor 4.6. The Romeo engines were typically found in the trucks
I'm really enjoying the content with Kent back
About that cab on that truck i have the exact truck but mine is an stx With the 6 foot bed and that same cab during the winter my brother mom and sister wanted to go skiing and i had the only truck with 4x4 so my sister laid down in that cab the 5 hour drive up north. That was 3 years ago i still have the truck. The rust got worse on the bed and frame but i plan on fully top to bottem restoring it. Yeah i know its not worth it and its not a desirable truck but i love it more that anything and had it when i was 15
It's worth it if you want it and plan on keeping it. They're good trucks , you'll have it forever
My .02.
Chevy had a 4.8 in that generation
And 5.3

You should come see mine. It's a split year 2004 lariat. Alot a good things have been done to it!😉
Atleast you have the good ole 4 6.
I still miss my 2004 f150.
I wish you would tell me more about the suspension lifts bc I'd love to hear about it.
@William Murray PB blaster, let it soak and go easy. There is also a tool specifically made for getting them out. Still running strong
A special spark plug socket
I have a 02 Silverado 4.8 and my friend wants to trade his 04 f150 5.4 am I better off staying with my Chevy or is it worth it switching
@christianrodriguez5476 Keep the Chevy, the 5.4 3V are awful engines. This is easily the worst F-150 generation.
Nah its more like "if you dont know how to take care of engines stay away from the 5.4."
