- 🌟 Dive into the latest episode of our Te Araroa trail adventure, where decisions and surprises pave the way! This time, our trail family faces a big decision at the Rangitata River and opts for safety with a twist in our journey. 🌊🚌
After much thought and excessive wind, we decide not to cross the unpredictable Rangitata River on foot, choosing instead a shuttle ride to Geraldine. From there, we resume our hike, passing the serene Emily Lake and camping under the stars-waking up to a stunning frost-covered landscape. ❄️🏕️
🔹 Why did we choose not to cross the river?
🔹 What is it like camping in frosty conditions?
🔹 How does the camaraderie in a trail family impact the journey?
In this episode, experience the warmth of staying in a cozy hut with friends and the amazement of encountering an incredible sight-thousands of sheep blocking our path! 🐑🛖
As we wrap up this leg with another shuttle into Methven, join us for the heartwarming and unexpected moments that make this adventure unforgettable. 🚐❤️

Wow, i have never seen that many sheep at once. That was kool to watch
Me neither! So many!!
“You are where you are, doing what you’re doing.” Soo much beauty in that statement. Freedom.💛 Enjoyed your perspective of your time spent on trail. And those mountains! Magnificent.✨👏
Thank you :) I love the feeling of being fully present that I get on trail.
That sure were a lot of sheep! 😊
Trail magic is always super! Special spot to put it...
Nice stretch again!
All the best, Kaat
So many sheep! I couldn’t believe it!
I love the good morning acknowledgments, very cool TA episode 10.
Aww i know you will enjoy your journey to & in Sydney .
Thank you for making me smile, Lauren
Thank you!! ☺️
Really glad you decided not to cross the river, the Rakaia and Rangitata have a long (150+ year) history of people drowning even at lower flows.
Exactly- wasn’t worth bothering honestly!
This seems so long ago! That wind must remind you of home!
It really does! And yes I get flashbacks of Lethbridge whenever the wind picks up 😭
I kept hoping to see the river! Did you take any photos of it? Did you drive over it on a bridge?
My phone ran out of storage 😭🫠🤦🏼♀️ you have to drive about 45 mins to get to a bridge to cross it!
How many people are with you or behind you going Sobo?
I’m not sure about people going sobo. I went NOBO and there weren’t too many people I ran into going that way. I was with a nice little group of 5 for a while which was fun!
But I did encounter 100 sobos in a day along the trail a couple times. So there are many more going that direction!
