    After much thought and excessive wind, we decide not to cross the unpredictable Rangitata River on foot, choosing instead a shuttle ride to Geraldine. From there, we resume our hike, passing the serene Emily Lake and camping under the stars-waking up to a stunning frost-covered landscape. ❄️🏕️

    Really glad you decided not to cross the river, the Rakaia and Rangitata have a long (150+ year) history of people drowning even at lower flows.

      It really does! And yes I get flashbacks of Lethbridge whenever the wind picks up 😭

    I kept hoping to see the river! Did you take any photos of it? Did you drive over it on a bridge?

      My phone ran out of storage 😭🫠🤦🏼‍♀️ you have to drive about 45 mins to get to a bridge to cross it!

    How many people are with you or behind you going Sobo?

      I’m not sure about people going sobo. I went NOBO and there weren’t too many people I ran into going that way. I was with a nice little group of 5 for a while which was fun!
      But I did encounter 100 sobos in a day along the trail a couple times. So there are many more going that direction!
