    One main item to also consider for heating your shelter, is the amount stove pipe that is inside the shelter. This will somewhat dictate stove size and stove placement. The more stove pipe you can get inside your shelter, the more heat it will generate. The other major item to think about as well, is cooking. When using your hot tent most people will cook on the wood stove. So having a flat top on your stove is very important for cooking. It is easier to put your pots, pans, kettles on the surface with out sliding off. It is much harder to do that with the cylinder type roll up stoves. Titanium is a great material to make a wood stove out of. That is not to say that steel stoves aren't perfectly adequate either. They just take some maintenance for controlling the rust and they have the weight penalty. However if your are hauling your gear in on on a sled or toboggan the weight penalty isn't that much of an issue. One then to consider with back packing stove while winter camping is ease of assembly. In cold weather assembling a stove with lots of small parts that your have to fiddle with isn't much fun. So look for one that can be easily assemble while wearing gloves or mitts.

      Excellent points. We are definitely on the same page. I mentioned much of this in previous videos as well so its nice to see others putting much thought into it as well.

    The advantage of the large stove is that you can fill it with more wood, damper down the intake and flue and it will burn much longer. 2ndly, there is less processing of the wood into smaller pieces which conserves your own energy. And obviously a larger stove will heat a larger space, ideal for small cabins or large canvas tents.
    A baffle in a stove is also quite valuable - it keeps the heat in the firebox longer, the top of the stove provides a more even heat and works well for cooking. The additional heat path helps to eliminate hot ash going up the flue which lessens or eliminates the need for a spark arrestor.

    I built my own tent stove, but it’s designed to burn hard coal and bit coal instead of wood. I think it’s a very handsome design but because of the nature of coal, it’s rather heavy, more complicated, and needs more corrosion resistant ($) materials. Here’s the thing though, a single full load of coal can easily burn for 8+ hours with proper adjustments. It’s a much more reliable heat than wood. I want to make a video about it but I’m nervous about it’s reception haha. It’s still a prototype but that 8 hour burn I got on one fill was insanely impressive.
    I am planning on building a stainless steel version, I have the stock for it, one part (air diffuser/superheater/thing) will be inconel 718 which is a fancy and expensive nickel alloy, but the consistent, high quality heat output of the first one makes me think it’s worth it.

    Great video about stove's, I really like the packable stove's. The other stove's I noticed you were calling the staneless steal, that are actually just steal stove's, not that it matters much but stainless steal won't rust and will last a lift time.

    Could you please make a video more specific to backpacking with 1-2 people? Most questions I have are about how to choose a size: how to balance it with a sleeping system? What if regions I hike I have basically only soft wood available?
    I do almost exclusively mountain hikes all-year-round with a hammock. I'd have big troubles finding good spots for a tipi tent, but this is still very interesting topic for me. I've actually learned from you, that hot-tent backpacking is a valid idea ;)

I need a lightweight stove to fit in my canoe but want a large one so I can load it up to keep in overnight to dry out kit and dogs and myself. What would you recommend. @Lonewolf 902 -- For your ammo-can stove , wire-wheel all of the rust off , and then apply ''Stove Black'' . Stove Black is designed for keeping large woodburning Kitchen Ranges looking like new . Wear old clothing and rubber gloves when applying Stove Black , if you get it on your clothing it's PERMANENT , and if you get it on your skin it has to wear off . One application usually lasts for several years of usage . --- I've been using it for over 50 years on my 1908 Moore's Merit Kitchen Range .

    Those are some nice looking titanium stoves. I wonder at the durability of those titanium stove pipes? With my luck I would bend one the wrong way on my second trip. Another key takeaway for me was the rapid oxidation on the ammo can. That is a stark contrast to the titanium. Plus titanium colors are very distinctive.

    How long does the large pomolly stove burn for after a fill

    • @Lonewolfwildcamping
      @Lonewolfwildcamping  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on many factors, wood type, damper settings etc
      Usually with oak 3-4 hours

    Hi Lonewolf, I am thinking of bying the timber with glass, do you think there is an issue with the pomoly warping and being difficult to put together, as the one with glass is not fast fold? Thank you for your time.

    Who makes the stove jack that you showed in this video? Will it fit the One Tigress Iron Wall?

    • @Lonewolfwildcamping
      @Lonewolfwildcamping  4 роки тому

      Unfortunately I do not know who makes it. But I can tell you it does not fit on any onetigris tents because it is rectangular in shape

      @@Lonewolfwildcamping Thank you. Too bad it doesn't fit. I like the concept of it preventing water and also heat transfer onto the tent. Maybe One Tigress will develop one for their tents in the future.

    Since the stoves add heat inside the tent, what temperature rating do you use for your sleeping bag? On the safe side, I should probably bring a 20F sleeping bag for when it’s 20F outside, but if it’s going to be 60F+ in the tent and there’s a steady supply of wood, should I just bring my three season sleeping bag instead of buying a winter rated one?
