  • Thank you for checking out this quick video on our 2003 VW Beetle.
    This car was having a lot of trouble with cold starting. In addition to that, the fan speed controls and a few other electrical items were not working on the car. This was what was causing the problem and how we fixed the car.
    Hopefully it helps you out. We do have a whole continuing series on the VW as we are trying to revive this car for my teenage daughter. Please check those out too if you like.
    Thanks again,
    Bobby

    My daughters VW beetle was having hard start issues, and I went to the fuel system first, because that made the most sense. Then I started looking for other causes of hard starting and found this video. Huge huge thanks from myself and my daughter for this video, it solved the problem right away, and the part was only $10 with about 20 minutes of work.

    Yes!! Exactly what happened to my daughters car. Replaced the coolant sensor and the air conditioner started working again and the car started up easily again. Plus the overheating light came on. Solved alot of issues at once.

    Thank you buddy. My bug has had the worst cold start issue I’ve ever experienced with any automobile. I replaced so many parts; so much money. Fuel filter, fuel pump, maf sensor…the list goes on. I have not yet replaced this part, I do have it in my hand and I’m about to do it. My guess is it will fix it because it’s the only code that comes up. I didn’t search “cold start issues” until a year after the problem started either. I neglected to do it because I see no correlation between coolant temperature and starting the engine. Apparently Volkswagen sees a connection between the two.

      Replying to myself to let y’all know that this appears to have been the trouble, you sir saved me from selling my baby, she started right up and ran like it did when I bought it. It has taken me close to a year to resolve this problem. Also a good note for everyone else; OPEN THE COOLANT RESERVOIR BEFORE PULLING THE CLIP FROM THE SENSOR!! Once I got it unplugged(took 20 minutes to achieve this btw)…and as soon as I pulled the clip out, the old sensor shot directly straight up and coolant went EVERYWHERE. The old sensor is still lodged between the transmission and something else LOL

      Honestly I did the same, I couldn’t believe that stupid little part was reaping so much havoc on this simple car.
      I’m really happy it solved the problem for you. I’m glad you mentioned about relieving the coolant pressure. Mine didn’t do that but it’s also been living in the back yard for a long while, due in large part to this same issue. Imagine how I felt when I realized that little sensor was the problem.
      Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers🍻

    My vehicle is doing the exact fault you described, It cranks for 5 seconds and then starts. it will continue starting on/off all day. But after leaving it overnight same issue. The problem with this sensor is it reads high faulty temperature and sends that information to computer and that causes computer to give lower fuel/power/injector thinking its hot.

      Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, mine was out because I was replacing that in another video. But yes, that too was replaced. That was actually what led me to the Coolant Temp Sensor. Even if the MAF is disconnected the car will start, it runs like crap, but it will start. Mine wouldn’t, for a long long long time, lol. After I replaced the CTS she literally starts up right away now. I appreciate you, thanks again. 🙏

      Thanks for watching.
      My immediate thought, without seeing the car, is that it sounds like your starter is bad or the starter fuse has blown.
      Did you try push starting?
      It could also be a key/ignition issue. If you have a way to bypass the ignition and use a “bump” or button starter connected directly to the starter that may rule out the ignition at least.
      With the stall and then not being able to restart it definitely sounds like an electrical issue. If you have any other information I’m happy to help. Thanks again for reaching out.

      Not so much on the battery but the other symptoms do sound right on par. If his alternator is failing it will have similar issues as the ones you described as well. If the car has been sitting for a while and the coolant temp sensor is not working properly it will be very very difficult to start.
      Hope this helps. Thank you very much for reaching out and watching.

    • @adamc4155
      @adamc4155 9 місяців тому

      @user-lx1ik7fv2p I replaced the sensor which is easy and didn't cost much at all.. same issues so I also replaced the starter, this did fix the start issue but in the end I think the alternator is bad because I drove the car and left it running and everytime without fail the battery seemed to go completely dead and wouldn't start again.. I did have the battery tested and guys at the shop said battery is holding a charge.. I replaced the starter because I charged the battery and put it back in and no start, after I replaced the starter it did start but like I said, battery is not charging now..

      @flippinnuts1  8 місяців тому

      Sorry for the delayed response. Thank you for watching and your question.
      I have, and it is a pain, lol. It helps if you have a set of spark plug boot removal pliers, Amazon/eBay. You will also need a 3/8 swivel extension to reach at least 2 of the plugs. You can do it without the swivel but it helps.
      There are a couple videos on UA-cam that do a good job walking you through the process.

    Is beetle a reliable car? How many miles does your car have and what parts have you replaced?

    • @flippinnuts1
      @flippinnuts1  2 роки тому

      Thank you for watching and for your question.
      This one has just over 153 thousand miles. In my “opinion” they are reliable cars and very economical. You would probably get the best “bang” for your money with a diesel, if you can find one.
      They do have quirks, the most aggravating being the poorly constructed door panels and other interior panels. Mechanically though I have been happy with all of mine. I’ve had several.
      The car in this video is not a good example because of a long history of neglect. If you are handy, and keen on finding a fun, budget friendly “project”, these are great cars. Otherwise, I would look for one that has been well taken care of because in the long run you will probably be much happier.

      I got 1 at 186k. Been pretty simple water pump, timing belt, trans filter/fluid, speed sensor, oil filter housing seal, o2 sensors,coolant snesor, coil pack and having the immobilizer system shut off($100) has pretty much been all my problems and have pretty much been in the last 30k. Until now with a crank no start. I have the 2.0l. got a $40 VW OBD2 scanner worth every dollar.

    I have a 2004 vw new beetle and I have no headlights. Do you have any ideas on what it could be?

    • @flippinnuts1
      @flippinnuts1  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Ann. Thank you for watching and your question. I don’t want to make any assumptions about what you’ve checked up until now but I usually start with the simplest solution first.
      1- In this case it is possible that both of your bulbs are out. I have had that happen. If it did, at least one of the bulbs should be clearly burnt. These lights are generally on all the time and don’t last very long.
      2- Check fuses. If it’s a fuse it’s possible you will have something else in the car that’s not working.
      3- You may have a faulty relay. Sometimes you can check this by substituting a working fuse that is the same type, (horn, a/c, etc…).
      4- Faulty switch.
      5- Wiring issue
      I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me if none of this helps.
      Bobby

    • @flippinnuts1
      @flippinnuts1  2 роки тому

      Hello Uzair. Thank you for watching.
      1- It is possible you have an ABS sensor going bad.
      2- Brake light switch could be failing
      Could be several things. Unfortunately with your car you really need a VAG scanner to read any possible codes to help point you in a direction.
      Wish I could be more helpful, thank you for reaching out.
