    I was just preparing to donate a large portion of my soft pastels because I was not using them in collage and this was a wonderful reason to share some but keep a small portion for the future use in my collages. Plus, I will share this idea with my students and remind them to subscribe to your channel for more ideas to improve. Thanks

      Glad we saved the pastels! And I felt he same way-I want to use them more but didn’t know how to incorporate them into my collage-until now! Thanks for passing my channel along to others, that’s so kind. Xoxo

    Just tried this for myself and I can report that the pastel 90% did not move. I sealed it again, but this time tinted the gloss with a tiny bit of panes gray. It turned out just lovely and reminds me of colors that Degas would have used in his paintings🌺🌺. Will you be having a holiday sale on any of your classes this Christmas Marabeth? I saved up last Christmas and took your painted papers class and learned so much. I am hoping to try the floral for a present to myself this year.

    Oh my gosh that is brilliant! ❤ I have had good success doing pan pastels on a gelli plate and then pulling the print with matte medium, but never thought of doing it this way. While I was watching you, I decided to try a variation on that theme. So I scribbled some pastel on a piece of wet strength tissue paper and then put matte medium on the gelli plate and will see what happens when it dries.!!😅

    This is brilliant! I had always set my pastels, but by picking up a layer of matte medium from the gel plate, but I love how you did this with the brush and blended it out. My favorite part was the saturating the rest of the sheet in the color and how the treated areas acted as a resist. Fabulous!! I love your work btw. Thank you for sharing this technique.

    Must try this !!! I love the pastel idea . Just wonder before I have a go , Will the paper rip when you put it in the color water ? Looks like a lot of water for the paper to hold up to it .

    • @marabethquinart
      @marabethquinart  3 місяці тому

      it depends on the paper. If you’re using something fragile like tissue, then you’d have to work fast and get it out carefully/quickly. I believe I was using either rice paper or this thicker teabag paper that I have, so I knew that it was sturdy and I could keep it in the water that long. It just takes experimenting with your papers to get to know what they can and can’t do.

    • @marabethquinart

      I’m sure it would, but like the pastel, it’s going to move around just a bit and you can’t paint over it a lot of times or you’ll lose the definition. It’s a learning curve, but you should try it!

  • @DawnoftheDay-mb7zt
    @DawnoftheDay-mb7zt 4 місяці тому

    Might try pastels, since this technique can make them usable. Thanks! Do you typically use the medical exam paper for your tissue, versus wet-strength tissue or deli paper?

    • @marabethquinart
      @marabethquinart  4 місяці тому

      Honestly, I’ve not used deli paper or wet-strength, but I know a lot of people do and love them. But I use the med exam paper in place of tissue now because it’s pretty comparable in a lot of ways, it’s more economical and I know exactly what I’m getting every time, unlike the tissue I order.
