If your next card is bad, r2 to send it to bottom for a clean draw.
Taking turns back and forth is honestly what made star wars destiny extremely compelling as a game as well, and the initiative mechanic is exactly the same as well. Resourcing sounds like the exact mechanic from the VS series card game from the 2000s, which was also successful and a good mechanic. The art is horrible compared to Destiny and that "upside down" event card design is just plain bad. I'll wait a few years and then pick it up on clearance....just like I've done with every FFG star wars product so far 😂
Haha, when I hear the words "the next Magic the Gathering" I can't help but laugh 😂 Game seems fine, nothing that impressed or wowed me. Specially since it has a LOT of elements from all successful games, and even from Decipher's Star Wars CCG (THE Star Wars collectible game, even with its many faults). A "unique" game doesn't describe Unlimited properly.. The only "recent" release that has really improved on Magic is "Legends Runeterra", but they were smart enough to go Digital and make the economy great! Even Sorcery with all the hype.. or MetaZoo with the speculation market.. or this new Altered TCG.. nothing will ever come out on top or even stand on the same space as Magic or PKMN. Hasn't YuGiOh fallen from grace as well? Flesh and Blood is still going strong? And I don't think even One Piece can..
While I do agree with the overall sentiment of your message, you're misinformed on many things you did mention. I myself played MTG for over 20 years, and even if I believe the game will stand still for the foreseeable future, the recent decisions and the layoffs at Hasbro shows that the current dynamic of the company is to siphon money at maximum capacity with complete disregard for the game durability, and player exhaustion is starting to hit hard, with unsold products sitting in store shelves, and WotC videos hiding comments. On the other hand, Legends of* Runeterra is indeed very insteresting but is dying as the devs explained it wasn't worth their time and money and the game was "entering sustainability", meaning it won't likely get any new meaningful addition past this year, therefore I wouldn't call their economy "great", it's super friendly but not making enough for the game to survive... One Piece and Lorcana on the other hand might not break any formula, but they're doing better on rate than Magic, considering they sell less but they're always sold out, meaning that if they keep player's engagement and increase production, they might equal or surpass MTG in the long run. Yu-Gi-Oh ! has fallen in grace in terms of accessability to newcomers so it will die imo in years to come, but right now, the current playerbase is still very very active and almost every set is selling well while tournaments are at full capacity, so I wouldn't count the game out so soon either. I don't know much about Flesh and Blood but from what I've gathered, it indeed seems to go strong and there are still consistent tournament plays, even if it's definitely not the case in my LGS... So you see, your mentality seems to align perfectly with the mentality of WotC, in the sense that they know they have the biggest game and decide to sleep on their playerbase by doing the absolute minimum and overselling stuff, and while I see this working in short terms, I think nothing is eternal as the current state of AAA gaming studios shows it perfectly, and while I don't see SW unlimited as a MTG killer, I wouldn't be surprised to see a TCC compete and eventually dethrone it in the near future.
On the digital side, I've lost both games I loved playing, Gwent and legends of runeterra. I think I'll stick with the big 3 for the foreseeable future 😅 Played mtg for years and now I'm kinda meh about it, especially since I liked draft the most and now it's not much of a possibility (prices are going higher and higher), I still play some EDH with friends tho. Pokemon is IMO fun and very affordable, and I'd also like to learn more about ygo, since some stuff (mostly from pendulum on) has me REALLY lost 😂
I don't think this game will be "as big" as MtG - but I think this has the possibility to become the biggest rival to MtG. To be honest, the gameplay of this game BLOWS the other games you mentioned out of the water. If you are truly and MtG player (I've played 15 years), you will instantly recognize the power of this gameplay and the similarities/benefits it has to Magic. Basically, if you like MtG, you automatically should like this game; that's a bold statement and I stand by it. If you don't, then maybe you play MtG for something other than its gameplay.
It is fantasy flight games.. it will not last longer than few expansions. Believing that they will keep the tempo with other giants strictly focus on organized play and support is naive. The SW IP proved several times that its not a guarantee. For gameplay, its nothing new just a common hybrid rules glued together, also the graphic is nothing to write home for. Asmodee is a financial group they are putting a lot of money to bribe the youtubers and chanels to spread the Hype, the hype will last for the first 2 sets, than it will drop down until the Asmodee will find out that their sales are droping, then just shut down the game and start to hype another IP. They did it dozen of times before, with keyforge, SW destiny, game of thrones... the history is ALWAYS repeating. I agree, the game is good and i will be only happy when my predestinations are wrong, but that is least possible.
Totally valid. But they have the next 3 years of sets already fully designed from what I heard. They have already announced the first 3 expansions. I mean, I feel like if they were to go away it would be a long time.
I generally like to try out new TCGs, but I don't care much about star wars in general, and (most important) FFG and Asmodee have a TERRIBLE history of killing their own games, so I dont think I'll try this one...
I don't know if there's enough IP to call it unlimited. And the artwork is just meh. Also the card design is very similar to keyforge. Too colourful where stats are located.
@@rebelresource Ok, I really want to get into the game, just that the design and artwork disappoints me. But as long as the game is fun that's what truly matters I guess.
Great question! I was very concerned as well. But based off of the support from Asmodee (the biggest difference here imo) I would think not. Now that Asmodee has acquired FGG and they have support from them, I don't think this game is going anywhere anytime soon!
I am with you - some of them are pretty bad though... Like the Han Solo Leader card... he is sort of meh. But SnapShot Reflexes is insane! Checkout my recent video on all of the showcase - there are some bangers in there!@@VicodinElmo
I don’t really blame the artwork. I don’t like the frame which don’t match with the art, the foil looks like very cheap, showcase are the most rare but if you don’t know that they look basics. Star Wars deserve better i think.
Oh boy, where to Begin. While I think the game is decent, I also play tested it (I was paid by FFG) and it's still got issues but the main issue is it's an FFG game. You clearly have never played an FFG game competitively. Their OP is terrible, their support is terrible, the life of their games is always short. This being an IP game makes that even worse because at any moment Disney could just yank the IP and it's gone. All you have to do it's look at their past. A game of thrones LCG, netrunner LCG, Warhammer 40K conquest LCG, Star wars LCG, legend of the five rings LCG, Star wars destiny etc etc. The back and forth action system is actually fairly common in card games these days because the old system just isn't as good. Same reason why the MTG mana system is pretty much gone in every card game now. You can like and enjoy the game and I'm even going to buy some boxes to play my buddies but there's some very misleading things in this video and people should certainly not think this is going to sit next to magic the gathering in terms of popularity in any way, shape or form. There won't be a player base like magic, The support won't be there like it is with MTG, the OP will be lacking. It's how FFG is, they are a games as service company now, Just like EA in the video game industry
I completely agree expect there is one large issue with this take. It’s that all of these games were done by FFG before Asmodee acquired them. Asmodee is a multi billion dollar company. One of the main reasons those games disappeared is due to Asmodee shutting them down due to low profitability after they acquired FFG. I would completely agree if God tier money wasn’t behind this game. FFG has had the Disney license forever. Not super concerned about that.
@@rebelresource that was a decade ago, they cut destiny, got rid of keyforge and half those LCG's since and exactly what do you think is going to happen when this game isn't making The kind of money Asmodee wants to see from it? And I'll guarantee you it's not. It's not going to compete with MTG , lorcana , probably not even FnB and then there's altered TCG blowing up on Kickstarter right now. This has been FFGs modus operandi for decades now. You can't seem to see the forest for the trees.... I hope the game is successful but I already know from the giant tote full of defunct FFG card games in my closet that's highly unlikely
Those are all fair points. Keyforge died because of COVID though, which sucks. Destiny died because the dice were custom fabricated and insanely expensive. Asmodee was responsible for shutting those games down since they are looking to optimize for profits. I mean look at WotC with MtG and their Secret Lairs. I think Secret Lairs are SO lame... Look at Tolarian Community College's crituques on them, he is spot on. But Hasbro want that money.@@kevinsayers5985
@@rebelresource I loathe MTG personally. I played it back in the 90's and it was fun back then. I tried to play again around 2010ish and it just felt dated at that point. I hate The mana system, it's got to be the worst way to do money in a CCG/TCG. I like the back and fourth action systems that many card games are going with. Altered is also doing the same thing, so I'm very interested in that game as well. There's an LCG called Ashes rise of the Phoenixborn, now called Ashes reborn, also uses that system as well and it's one of my favorite card games. We'll see what happens but FFG has so many strikes against them at this point it just seems very difficult to see this game being very successful for a long period of time. The LCG was fantastic at the end of its life I thought, they had finally got the balance of the faction right after 5 years 🤦🏻♂️ and art was amazing. That's one area I strongly dislike about this game, I know art is subjective but I hate it in Star wars unlimited. It's bad

I think I'll stick with the big 3 for the foreseeable future 😅
Played mtg for years and now I'm kinda meh about it, especially since I liked draft the most and now it's not much of a possibility (prices are going higher and higher), I still play some EDH with friends tho.
Yeah, tough history. I think the narrative will be different with this post-covid launch. The gameplay is worth trying it out!
I don't know if there's enough IP to call it unlimited. And the artwork is just meh.
Also the card design is very similar to keyforge. Too colourful where stats are located.
Did you see the next set art?! It’s like 10x better.
They can pull from legends and video games
@@rebelresource can you send me a link?
@@muCephei_ to what? They have shared it on stream. It’s pretty much official that they can pull from antthing
@@rebelresource Ok, I really want to get into the game, just that the design and artwork disappoints me. But as long as the game is fun that's what truly matters I guess.
another star wars TCG. Are they going to abandon it like they did with the previous one?
Great question! I was very concerned as well. But based off of the support from Asmodee (the biggest difference here imo) I would think not. Now that Asmodee has acquired FGG and they have support from them, I don't think this game is going anywhere anytime soon!
This game is basically a little bit revamped old wow tcg.
Interesting! I’ve never heard of it. Is there a video I can watch?

The gameplay is good but cards are ugly
I don’t disagree! Some of the art good though. Just a lot of Disney XD vibes going on 😂.
I think it’ll get better over time.
I kinda like it but it’s personal preference!
I am with you - some of them are pretty bad though... Like the Han Solo Leader card... he is sort of meh. But SnapShot Reflexes is insane! Checkout my recent video on all of the showcase - there are some bangers in there!@@VicodinElmo
I think the art is so awesome. It looks like an old school Star Wars theater poster art style. So good!
It's bad
