    I live here in NYC, I have become obsessed with your videos. I have many more to watch, saw your Sun and Fun, Bahamas trip, trying watch them in order on your playlists. I knew nothing about flying which makes these videos so amazingly interesting, it looks so difficult to do what you do, that's coming from a person that has to drive through the crazy streets of NYC. It looks stressful to me at times seeing you making those landings in those busy airports, but at the same time it's very relaxing watching you guys on these trips. Keep up the great work you do, stay safe! Your newest fan, Joe Brooklyn.

    Love to watch your videos. I have the same airplane as you, a 310Q that I’ve owned 19 years, and it is very informative to compare techniques and view how you deal with ATC situations with your background. Always learning. What caught my attention today is the exchange between you and your lovely wife concerning the call you made to tower letting them know you were ready for takeoff. I am a retired airline pilot and would like to add my 2 cents. I flew with Hughes Air West, Republic and Northwest, retiring about the time of the merger with Delta, about 35 years. I often instructed my F/O, if he/she had not already done it, to call ready when approaching the runway. I’ve never had the opportunity to observe controllers doing their job and I did not assume that with all of their duties they saw us approaching number 1 for takeoff. We almost always had the checklist completed approaching the end and if we could help it, we preferred not to have to stop all that weight just to have to get it moving again. I often also in the desire to maintain schedule, which we were all the time pushed concerning, wanted to keep things flowing. I occasionally had on my jump seat controllers who were there to observe us and to get a sense of how busy we were at different stages of a flight. We in return did not often have the opportunity to do the same and observe controllers. Loved having you on my jump seat. With recips like our 310’s we have to stop the do the check and I think it is very important to advise we are ready when approaching number 1 and ready. With aviation it is important NEVER to assume anything, it will get you killed or someone else killed. When someone assumes, they make an ASS-(out of)-U-(and)-ME. Communication is the key! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Look forward to your next video. Hope this was coherent. Chuck

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  5 років тому

      Glad you're enjoying the videos Charles! That's awesome you've had your Q for 19 years...I'm hoping to do the same and would be happy to have this one till my flying days are over. I'm sure I could learn a ton from you! In aviation, one can never or should never stop learning. Jaime is correct with her depiction of tower controllers (especially the non-pilots in the bunch) in that they will say wow...really he called ready with traffic on short final. Like I mention in the video, as a tower controller I always liked knowing if they were ready. That way I could put them in position, extend the downwind of another aircraft to get them out before they turn base or whatever. I don't think you can over-communicate some things like this. My favorite as a busy airliner tower controller was putting one in position with one rolling out in a tight gap and telling them up on the power. When you could see them dancing on the brakes as the preceding guy hit the high speed I knew they got it and they rolled immediately as the take off clearance came out. :) I wish we could still jump seat like before 9/11 but unfortunately that's not really the case anymore. Much can be learned form each other seeing it from the other perspective. I love when pilots come to the TRACON for tours. Unfortunately we are so far form ORD/MDW that it's rare.

      I am glad to hear that you are all ok. We are still in Telluride,as for skiing there is a long standing unwritten policy among corp.pilots not to engage in risky events such as skiing that may cause injury. Telluride is an a/p that should only be for pilots with mt. flying experience.Even then it is far from a normal approach and landing It is on top of a small mesa, with 12000 ft mts. all round. Alt. 9000ft,runway 6911ft AVL. I made a night RNAV landing.Snowing, visibility less that 1/8 ml runway wet.I would have diverted if I had not been flying the Phenom 300. Great weekend (my wife who a nervous flyer) came along as well. We are leaving in about an hour for home. the plane has been in a hanger all weekend.Temp 3, sky 12000 broken vis 10 mile, wind 360 at 9, runway wet. @@310Pilot

      Glad you enjoyed it Paul! There's no food diners at any of the airports down under? It's fun sometimes to just fly somewhere new and grab a bite to eat around here. I will always have a soft place for 172's as I learned to fly in them. :)

    • @ozziepilot2899
      @ozziepilot2899 5 років тому

      @@310Pilot Unfortunately our aviation culture here is not geared to the social aspects such as drop in to an aerodrome for a meal, there are some isolated examples around and the odd aero club will serve a meal. It's rather disappointing how aviation is constricted here and very very expensive, but we press on and fly anyway because we love it :) e.g. for a private hire of a 172 for an hour is $300 (wet). I think there is a ready market for some US FBO companies to explore Australia for opportunities. Cheers for now Paul

    What a wonderful family outing, Kevin. It is such a pleasure to watch you and Jaime, when you take the family to places outside Aurora, just for a little family fun and eating out. It’s really nice to see such a great family bond. I thought it was so cute when Jaime showed your son how to clear his ears after landing, and his reaction when it cleared. Hope all had a really wonderful time.

I look forward to your IFR information as I hope to be starting that stage of my training soon. It is nice to get a controller's view on things as well. Seen as you live in both a pilot's world and a controller's world it is nice to hear what you have to say on things. I know several pilots that don't like talking to controllers very much. They have always been nice and helpful to me, even when I'm making mistakes. Have a great day.

      I agree...it was always my dream plane and then I was able to make it happen. :) We are slowly working on modernizing her the way we want and are extremely happy so far. She's gettin the new Genesys STEC 3100 autopilot installed right now and we will clean up the panel a little with that. Really excited about this upgrade! I'm a very lucky man for sure!! Maybe one day when all the internal upgrades are caught up we can get her painted and I can pick a few different options and put it for vote with all the viewers here to decide. :)

You are probably too young to remember a tv show years ago called Sky King, I would think someone has brought it to you're attention by now. He flew a 310 he named Song Bird. Believe me...I was saying that to myself this day. :) I don't usually top off as I'm never sure what the next mission is. This also almost cost me a couple fingers because on the next flight I drop the plane off to get the heater re-installed and planned to be nice and empty as the gas in Burlington is really cheap. Of course it was -7F and windy that morning so I just put 15 in each side just to not lose any fingers and got back in to enjoy my new heater. :) Glad you enjoyed it Paul. We just took the plane down to TX for the new autopilot and I did get all 163 gallons in her for that flight!
