The Problem with Bus Conversions - And Why it Will Change Your Life.

  • We converted a cheap bus, and it literally changed our lives. However, bus conversions do have a few issues that are worth knowing before buying.
Houses have become enormously expensive. The price of houses has become untethered from the actual value that they bring. So many people in society have to work incredibly long hours just to make payments on a mortgage. Buying a bus, a tiny house a yurt or a container home are all ways of side stepping this enormous mortgage responsibility or what I would call a form of indentured servitude.
The reason we decided to convert a bus is that it ended up being way cheaper than a tiny house. We bought our bus for less than the price of a tiny house trailer. I personally think buses are a great option to live in, however, they do come with a few issues when it comes to converting them in to a home.

Great video. Im considering options for a future summer cabin and this was one of them. Think i will go for one pf those big catle wagons and just build a small house on top pf it though since its cold in Sweden 😊 thank you for picking my brain

That sounds like a good option. I remember flying to Stockholm over all of these beautiful little lakes with the occasional cabin. I imagine that would be an amazing place for a little summer house on a wagon.

I'm bummed cuz I'm 6'6" (~2m) so it's looking like no matter what I do I'm going to need to lift the roof. The only thing I can find that wouldn't require it is the RAM ProMaster Super High Roof version but from what I hear, the ProMaster has a lot of quality control issues from transmission failure to the engine block straight up just falling out due to the cheap engine mounts. It also ONLY comes in Front Wheel Drive so any steep hills will be a problem and offroading of any kind is a complete no-go.
    Any suggestions?

I wish I had some suggestions for you, but in NZ we have much less choice for busses than you have in the US. Have you looked into the roof raise? I wonder how much it would cost if you got a small scale engineering company to do it for you? Sorry I cant offer more help

@projectparadiseNZ I suppose I'll look around. I definitely am spoiled for choice for sure. I can find all kinds of low mileage shuttles/buses in great condition for under $10k USD so it's no really the end of the world if I have to do some subcontracting. I was just really hoping to avoid it because I'm broke as hell. 💀

@TheOutsider69 yeah you guys get awesome deals over there. Everything costs a fortune here, but the country is beautiful so I cant complain. Good luck with it
