At 60 years old now, I have had over 20 jobs in non-union manufacturing, (manufacturing, is the production of wealth), while earning 3 college degrees (2 in engineering), and I never found a JOB that did not live up to its meaning 'Just Over Broke". It was not until I started my own little business where I got out of poverty. I have bee a staunch believer that free enterprise belongs to the citizenry ever sine,--and is not compatible with communism. That is why we are going broke folks. Our federal government gave our free enterprise, (created by thinking citizens, mostly in the USA, with individual liberty protected by law), to communism so it can fund itself. Good luck sir. I have the same name and same situation. I'm 57 looking for meaningful work. Subtle age discrimination is real. I had 19 years as a VP in a small comapny but made a change to be outdoors doing a nonunion trade. I got injured, and that caused a spiral effect ofnwhere im at now. I have resources, so I'm not desperate, but I've been hunting for something suitable for about two years. I'm coming to the conclusion I'm unemployable so close to retirement age.
I don’t know how your video came to me. I’m also 54. An electrician for 37 years. I was “let go “ from my employer in April. I’m going through everything you have in your quest for work. I’m even applying to places I have no or little experience in. I do have a woodworking shop in my basement. I really only make things for my wife or family. I never wanted to be an electrician. It was just a job back then and stuck. I talked to my wife that I would like something with my woodworking while I’m looking for another job. She like freaked out on me. Saying that I’m trying not to go back to work. Which isn’t true. I think I’m actually better at woodworking than an electrician. She once mentioned that she doesn’t like when I make things for other people cause the things I make for her aren’t special anymore. So. I’m really pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do. I’ve had many interviews and I’m applying everywhere. Any advice?
I have found that senior citizens are more loyal and trustworthy to hire. They always show up for work and never call in sick. I would hire a senior citizen first.
Ageism was a complete blindside surprise for me. I’m healthy and active and know my trade well. After i got cut I cashed out what I owned. Moved to a small country town and started my own thing. I feel ashamed that I was a slave for so long. Thankful to see the light. Who knew God had my back the whole time. Keep the faith guys.

I don't quite look at it that way, because employment is also an educational opportunity for your own business, if we are free enough and have the desire to start our own businesses. I want to thank everybody who gave me a Job,---but I also know I could not advance out of "Just above Poverty", until my little business took off. Any communist government can hire some people. The difference of a free society is free enterprise opportunity, and the liberty to pursue what ever you think is possible,------------with out being stolen from. I don't know if God had your back. But he gave us a brain to figure it out. :) If there was a time where God was actually proud of mankind,---it would have to be the formation of the USA, where we were free to use the brains God gave us, and achieve real progress out of the dirt with our free enterprise. You wold be proud of your kids if they did that too. :)
Age is just a number in only West dudes, not in Eastern countries. I am still struggling even under 50 only because of me because I want to move to the UK or any western country like US and Canada or EU.
Fired at 57 on June 26, 2024. I know it takes time to get your resume in circulation. I had an interview today with the hiring arm for Amazon. Went well, the interviewer then said: “I communicate transparently…I am going to be honest with you…you are very polished & professional, this position is less than what you are capable of”, (aka: overqualified). She then asked me why I had applied, that I could be running the entire operation. I said to her “that’s why I applied”!!! She made me a verbal offer on the spot & said I’d have it in writing tomorrow. Yes, I’m overqualified. I knew I would be. Getting my foot in the door was all I wanted. Your video resonated with me. It has been discouraging at times, but I remained optimistic (and still do). Thank you for your message to all of us in this position, it taught me to value my experience & knowledge, never to doubt myself & most importantly, remain true to yourself.
Turning 55 this month. Got laid off from my job of ten years a few months ago. Can’t even land an interview.. recently divorced, stacking bills, child support, worried about keeping a roof over my head. Been praying. 🙏

Glad I found your channel! Definitely subscribed. I am 51 and just started my third year of medical school. I was a pastor and high school science teacher. I loved teaching but it wasn't fulfilling. I always wanted to be a doctor so here I am. I'll graduate at 53 years old.
At 62 my company started changing my job. It was so bad I had to retire early. Thank god my wife has a great job. Amazingly, our daughter developed a drug problem and lost custody of her newborn baby. DCF asked if we would take the baby. What? I'm shopping for kayaks and golf clubs! It's been 8 months and the baby is awesome and we love supporting him and feel totally blessed by God. What this company meant for ill God turned to good. Always the way.
When I was 45 we got custody of my 8 year old grandson. I had a business and basically let it run down and was giving customers away. Luckily my wife had and still does have a great job! My grandson is now 21 and it was the best thing that could have ever happened. He and I have a business now and we are all very happy as far as work and life goes.
Please don’t give up on your daughter I e been there it’s not as easy as people think it is. It’s a disease in my opinion. Thank you for looking after the child!

I just rushed home for my 10-minute lunch break from my office job that doesn't pay enough to make ends meet these days and I was reflecting on how the whole morning was spent listening to 6 other co-workers huffing, puffing, and complaining all morning, and then your video popped-up. I know it's time for a huge change but I don't have all the answers yet. Whoop, ...gotta go back to work! Pray God will give me the answers and open doors for me, please! Judy

I just did the same. My job was seriously making me physically sick because of how toxic it was. The young people who came in fought and gossiped everyday. Left after 25 years and I now wish I would have left sooner.
I'm 48, and our landlord passed away about 8 weeks ago, and 4 weeks ago the attorney for the son of my late landlord gave us a letter saying we needed to leave within 30 days. We are moving from Ohio to North Carolina and starting over in my professional life as well as in life in general. We are just starting this process of starting over again.

Congratulations! Its a little tougher when you are 67 and decide to go back to work. I worked for 34 years for a family owned trucking company managing their IT department. I learned computer work on my own and with the help of the programmer. I had no college education back in the 80s but this company gave me a shot. In 2022, the family sold the business. Things went downhill with the new owner and many large firms left. The new owner closed the doors in February of this year. I didn't mind because I was VERY unhappy in the last year. After 3 months I decided to look for another job. I was turned down at a lot of places. I got discouraged and a little depressed. I wasn't looking for the same salary. So at the beginning of June I spoke to a school crossing guard on our corner. Got the number of her supervisor and in 3 days had a part-time job. It only pays $24 an hour but I found that I was happy working with young grade school and middle school children. After school starts again at the end of August. I will try to work full time. If that doesn't work, then I will get a part-time job at Costco. Thanks for your video!
Since you like being with kids, drive a school bus. There’s a big shortage and the pay is better than being a crossing guard. They’ll train you to get your CDL. It’s so rewarding! I know, because I drive a school bus. 😊

Have you considered a career in the medical field (non-patient facing)? I am 50 and just starting a career as a Medical Records Technician. Pays well, age is irrelevant, and you can easily find a job at any doctor office/clinic/hospital. Don't give up, friend. But find something satisfying that can pay the bills.
@@joserpm I was an EMT/Firefighter in my 20’s, I loved the word back then but today that’s not my interest. I am starting a mobile automotive repair business. It’s something I’ve been doing as a side gig for many years.
I enjoyed my job and didn't view it as "a daily grind." I also had a lot of freedom and flexibility. Retirement for me has been all losses and no gains, I'm afraid. Each withdrawal, made it difficult for my savings to recover through compounding. It feels like etf's and bonds might just now be limiting my returns instead of managing risk.
I'm approaching retirement and having a financial advisor has been helpful. I started investing later than most, so relying on compound interest from index funds or bonds wasn’t enough for me. Despite that, I’ve managed to do well and am on track to retire with around $4 million

I know God brought me to this video. I am 58, currently burnt out and ready for retirement. I have applied for many jobs-nothing has come through yet. It is not clear to me if God wants me to stay here miserable, quit keep looking, if nothing comes retire to a lower paying job just to get Medicial insurance. I put all this personal stuff out here knowing the Lord has a plan but looking for guidance and or encouragement from anyone and everyone.
At 65 I am starting a water heater installation business, sometimes the best solution is to create your own employment. May God guide us all in His will.
The Lord gave us a brain that can figure out reality (if practiced), and advance mankind. So we formed the USA, which used to be called 'The land Of Opportunity", before there was a welfare system. What would happen if you got of the "worker" mentality, (any communist nation can hire "workers", and started a business that took off like mine did? You would then understand the freedom we used to have, that created every industry we have created. The most happiness I have ever experienced, (and I had a good childhood), by far, was when after working for over 20 companies in manufacturing, earning several college degrees (2 in engineering), and still just above poverty like you are,---was when my business took off from my own knowledge and efforts. It was amazing, and I never want to be a "worker" again. I did not know it with all those jobs and education. But I was gaining my own opportunity. You won't find that opportunity--working for the state. If you lose that job and get black balled,---you are screwed. I just got another Job in what is left of our free enterprise, and if I had the skill, they were happy to hire me. Even at 60, I can go back to Grand Rapids Michigan, and get a job (they pay better today because of the shrinking talent) in a week. But the freedom of your own business, and happiness from personal achievement,---can not be had with employment IMO. I despise the union/communistic word, "worker", as it implies that you are to be nothing more. In reality, you can't be much less, as JOB stand for "Just Over Broke". That is why God gave us a brain that can figure out reality if practiced, to achieve and better our lives. We have to have individual liberty protected by law, and free enterprise in our hands as a citizenry (where it started in the first place), in order be what God meant us to be. The only time God was proud of mankind,---is when we formed the USA. But that nations is gone now. But the "Hero" does not work for the state. I always thought that was just an excuse, in my line of work the turnover is awful-the idea that someone is going to be loyal and dedicated is unrealistic, AND 90% of every new hire is totally inexperienced and will be trained by someone who doesnt have the experience themselves, I know what I'm doing, I love this line of work, THEN you run into this generation that hasnt achieved, the sense of entitlement is shocking......and arrogant, they look at us as if we arent smart enough to have ever played the entitlement card for ourselves-you get a great understanding and example of "blissfully ignorant", I think a lot of the "ageism" is the "threat" of that "old f*cker"'s experience where their own crippling lack of self esteem mixed with their own inexperience easily fuels them to pass on hiring that person, this is happening everywhere, I dont see how the business world is going to be a viable success in the real near future, even in this vid, this guy acknowledges what I'm saying by making the comment "...even though my boss is young I HAVE TO BELIEVE he's in his position because he knows what he's doing.....", TO make that comment I know where he's coming from, I'm 55, that aint sh*t as far as age goes, most of us are a "LeBron James" in our field of work where we're being passed on for a #1 draft pick that never meets the lowest of expectations, EVERY time, and those who insist on drafting those lofty expectations get "famous" for being idiots, I used to get dejected over the "ageism" and that lasted for about a second, ESPECIALLY today-experience is gold, I've worked for places who thought upon hire that I was gifting my experience to them-as if they had a copyright on my expertise, NOPE, and I let places know that if that's the direction I see them going-dont let them get their hopes up,
You just have to keep looking until you find a company that will value your experience. They are out there, just maybe not as plentiful as they used to be. Good luck to you.

My comment on "you have to believe" was more of a statement relating that it won't do you any good to think negatively about your younger manager, especially until he/she proves that they do or don't know what they are doing. Relocated 2,300 miles for my dream job at my dream location. Economic conditions and a backstab from a trusted associate prompted me to resign. 20-years of residential construction financing became worthless. I can completely relate! Last year, I walked off my job for the first time ever, at 63!!! Since then, I’ve gone through savings, sold my car, had many interviews, and accepted a couple offers (had competing offers as well for the first time in my life), but everything has fallen through, or not worked out for me. Finally I’m starting to see that God is leading me somewhere, even though it’s hard to see it. You finally get to the point where your vision clears, and you start resisting. Working has been difficult for me all my life, I’ve had so much stress about working. It’s how my parents felt as well, and I thought that was all there was. I honestly think I am meant to be a content creator! I am so inspired by the stories, and all the journeys that people are on. It’s good to know I’m not alone. Really appreciated your story!❤

I retired 3 years ago at the age of 60 (radiation therapy supervisor) due to an untenable situation with the consultant hired to pare back staff. After watching 14 people being pushed out of their jobs, I decided i WOULD NOT let my 40 year career end on someone else's terms and took the plunge by ending my career abruptly. THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVR MADE!!! this move allowed me to be available for my family (which turned out to be fortuitous) and enjoy retirement while I was still healthy to travel and enjoy my retirement years. Fast forward 3 years later: My husband I 1 have traveled all over the US, have been available for kids/ grandkids and have a MUCH BETTER quality of life in this season of life. My advice to everyone: Live frugally and retire as soon as you can!!
I applaud you for your courage to leave when it was the right time. I did the same thing a year ago. After 31 years in my career, I abruptly left my job and retired…felt it was the best decision. I’m very happy now and most of all at peace. Blessings🙏
do you apply for SS and did they accept it? I am 60 and have given up working. I had several good jobs in the last 20 years. And for some reason I am let go. I do 110% but that must be to good. And not a suck up, I do my job, dont break stuff, and dont talk back...thanks...

After 35 years of progressive employment from a shipper/receiver all the way up to executive leadership and president over the past 25, and nothing but recognition and praise from bosses, peers and staff alike, I was furloughed at 58. At 61, I, along with my entire healthcare IT department are being outsourced to an India-based company. After 35+ years in IT, I'm ready to make a career change to something else in the near future. I feel like the Lord is guiding this transition for me. I am thankful that my current job is providing 11 weeks of severence AND they will have to pay out over 450 hours of PTO at 100% of my hourly rate that I have stingily saved over my time at this company.

I worked for a company for 28 years and got laid off in 2020 - like a lot of people did during the pandemic. I've worked my entire life with no break since I was 15, so that was a frightening time being in my 50's! I got very lucky and was employed only 5 months later and even beat out my severance pay. Ended up being hired by a super smart and talented 29 year old manager. I wouldn't tell anyone my age when I first started lol. However, I brought years of experience and jumped right in. Fast forward only 3 years later and she left the company just this past February and my coworker left a couple months later. That left some doors open and I just got promoted to be the manager of our Interior Design dept. and I'm about to hire someone to work under me for the first time in my career. You just never know how things will unfold.

I am 63 now, and I just graduated from college with an A.S. in accounting, I have not actively been looking for accounting jobs yet, but I have been reading many job postings, many employers want potential entry-level accountants to have x number of years experience, I do not worry about it. I’m with you. I was a technician for a new car dealership. In my 50’s and was let go. With no job. I worked as a handyman for myself. And now I’m blessed with a job working in public education. I’m happy now, that I lossed that job. A true blessing in disguise good luck guys great video.
Great video. I decided to start a side hustle handyman business a few years ago as a backup plan in case I ever find myself in a similar situation. I now feel confident that I can always make money anywhere in the country doing this type of work and it’s very fulfilling. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
I'm 57 yrs young and facing some decisions like yours...I feel like God led me to this video...timing is everything...his timing is perfect... and for some reason this came up in my youtube feed! Thanks for sharing your story...Glad to see things have worked out for you and that you are both happy in your new life together. I encourage anyone other Christians reading this to read two passages of scripture...Psalm 27:14 and Psalm 37(all)...just remember HE is in control and his timing is perfect...just wait upon the LORD!

I’m 51 and got fired from my last job after 11 years at my last company as an executive. I’m still looking for work and it’s been 7 months and I’ve been praying on it and it’s even brought me back to church for the first time in 20 years. I’m not sure what the next steps are… and it hasn’t been easy. I’ve had a really cut back my lifestyle and spending and I’m OK with that, but the stress it’s put on the family and my kids and my wife is there. I’m praying that God has a better plan for me whatever that is.
Thank you, Lord, for leading me to this video and these folks. I am 54. I was terminated a few weeks ago from a job I absolutely despised. This job had it all...work from home, amazing income potential, zero to little supervision required, however, it was sales and at 54 I was just burned out and lost the drive for sales. I had been telling my wife about how I was feeling for a couple of years before my termination. To make matters worse, our family went through a catastrophic event with our local school district at the end of the school year. It rocked us to the core and completely blindsided us. So, here I am 54, jobless, asking God to heal our family from what the school district put us through. Your video came by no accident. It is divine intervention, for sure. Exactly what I needed today, Thank you!! I love how God answers prayers in ways you don't think you need. I just finished my morning devotions, and prayed my usual prayer for guidance and patience through today's hunt for work. I grab my phone and here is this video out of nowhere. I am living your experience right now, and the parallels to our stories further validate His hands are on the wheel. I am 54, let go from a fortune 500 after 30 years from a security (fraud) job that I dearly loved(almost a year ago), just a few hours N in SD. like you, getting interviews, but doors keep closing. The current job market is brutal or everyone, but ageism is certainly a hurdle. Even though I know God has a plan on His timeline for me, I struggle with being patient enough to understand His timing. Your encouraging words will help me push forward. Just found and watched this video. I am 52 and got fired for the first time in my life back in january. I had 3 small companies in my area call and offer me positions one of which i took as a learning opertunity. My wife and i are moving to a new state in the next few months to pursue change, oppertunity, and happiness. Something we have been wanting for about a decade now. Seeing your video has been a blessing and assuring that better opertunities and happiness can be found if we are brave enough to make a change. Thank you for sharing.

The anxiety and the depression plus the fact that I am the only bread winner for my family is affecting my ability to do well in the interviews. I will be turning 47 this month. I don’t know if and how my life is going to come back on track. It feels like hell!

Then in June of this year, out of the blue my boss notifies me that they have eliminated my position and I was given 2 weeks severance. I'm actively looking and like you have come in second for three jobs. Your story encouraged me that God has just the perfect job for me, not to sell myself short, and to wait on Him.

I felt trapped and quit under good terms. I’m 52 and it has been harder than I thought to replace the job. I took a big bold step. After being in my job for 17 years with a multinational I was laid off. With excellent education, credentials and experience I went out looking for another job and it was absolutely brutal. I ended up taking a job well below my experience level so that I could at least pull in an income and thankfully found another job through connections when I did volunteer work. This is such an encouraging story! Thanks for sharing it! I had a similar experience.... I was diagnosed with. a particularly deadly form of cancer at the age of 55. Almost two years of treatment and recovery ended with a very disappointing job search at the age of 58, until a fervent prayer asking God where He wanted me to go...I would go there. The very next day I tripped over 2 job posting for a congregation of Catholic Sisters: Dir. Of Mission Advancement and Dir. of Communications (my background was in software sales and marketing)! I got an interview immediately and they combined both roles and hired me. That was 5 years ago, and I have NEVER been happier! The cancer proved to be a great blessing...and by the way, with the average age of the Sisters being 85, I'm the young kid in the office! 🙂. May God continue to bless you both!
At 56 I spent 2 years trying to get out of current job I had had enough of - ageism is rife however after 2 years I ended up with 3 different job offers all wanting my experience for their younger staff - in last 3 weeks of 3 moths notice of resignation (58 now) start new job soon - NEVER GIVE UP - this video is so true
Thank you so much for your video. It is just the encouragement that so many people need to hear. I just signed an offer for a new position at 49 years old. My current position was a stressful workload, and the lack of managerial support was demoralizing. My health began to suffer. I stepped out on faith and found a job in 30 days. I am nervous but I know that my 20 years of skills and knowledge will be valued in this new position. GOD always leads you where you are suppose to be.
What a great story! 🙌 I am 50, and just switched jobs a year and a half ago for a move up. Right now, in my field of civil engineering, the kids are not interested, and with boomers retiring the past 5 years, we are so short on engineers that are asking retired guys to come back to work. It's totally the opposite of the 2009 great recession. Kids have no idea how hard it was to get a job then. I was laid off by a city along with 200 others.
The civil engineers who repaved my road 2 years ago, sure messed it up,---because they don't have any free enterprise competition. They can be as dysfunctional as they are. Not true with competitive free enterprise,--where we get better at things.
I’m 63 years young, healthy and happily married. I’m in a FT career AND a PT adjunct role at a local business school working approximately 60 hrs/wk. It’s a western world problem where people feel stuck in their jobs and the older we get the harder it is to let go even if we hate it there. I’m 45, UK based and I quit the corporate world 6 months ago and things couldn’t be better! Fear will get you feeling stuck so. I also encourage others to choose to be happy and make a change especially what could be the last 20-30 years of their life. ❤❤

Ageism is very real! My experience and hard work that got me from receiving to Director of Operations should be screaming loud and clear this is the person we need to hire! I haven’t heard a thing! Thank you for the video! Ageism is a stark reality. My husband, at 58, has been diligently searching for a job for 10 months after his company was sold. It's disheartening to see him reach the end of the interview rounds only to be turned away, likely due to his age. What's even more frustrating is that I've observed many in their 30s and 40s leave their jobs within 1-2 years, yet they seem to be preferred over someone with my husband's experience, achievements, and skills.
It may take a while but I will pray an opportunity that values your husbands experience and loyalty comes along. I think there a more and more companies that are recognizing the perils that come with hiring potential short term employees and they are turning back to looking for experience, no matter how long they can draw from them.
I went to truck driving school at age 60 after floundering financially for 2 years after selling my pool service business, could not handle the Florida heat anymore. Did trucking for 4 years then took SS and a part time weekend job working in hospitals. Never to late to reinvent yourself.
I did the same after 34 years as a automotive technician, got disgusted after being laided off, went to CDL school, got my tractor trailer license with my endorsements and I am 55, got to adapt and roll with what life throws at you.
OMG I am so glad YT led me to you. I so needed to hear this. After being told there is no room in the budget for a raise, I was handed 4 raises to process for top execs that totalled $260k. I got fired from all my jobs, last one at 27. Best thing that ever happened to me. No one ever gave me a job after that which was the perfect excuse to not work again in my life. It truly has been a blessing. I quit the system ever since. No plans of going back.

So weird how this situation is almost similar to mine. My fiancé is a nurse and I am much older than her making 6 figures for a specialty pharmacy and we hit a point like you when I got fired. But before I got fired I was already searching and I was able to get a job in no time at my age by God's grace. There will be plenty of nurses who won't be able to find a job. The now state run health care industry can not hire all the graduates being taught to work for the state today.
I worked for a company for 30 years, and all the way to VP level. My company then was bought by a larger company. I landed a VP role with the new company, but never felt fully embraced by the Executive. It just didn’t feel like a good fit. And at the same time I was struggling with wanting to retire more than I wanted to work there, and perhaps they sensed this too. I knew I couldn’t stay and would need to retire or find something else with another company. And then the best thing that could have possibly happened- they offered me a new role or a retirement package. Perfect timing - and this allowed me to retire 2 years earlier than I had planned at 54 years. I could have stayed and made more money, but I knew it was time for a new adventure.

I got laid off 5 years ago and I have applied to so many jobs and no lack I will be 50 next month.I made a change and decided to switch and apply in healthcare and behold when I applied for direct care position I kid you not within 5mins of applying I had a job . I have a bachelor in Business Mgmt I’ve decided to go back to school and do nursing.

Right on ! I'm 55 and have been in a low paying but somewhat comfortable position that just doesn't cut it. I've been reluctant to take any old position because there's only so much I'm willing to put up with. It's taking a toll on my peace of mind , my ability to get to sleep and my ability to create a future for myself. I know it's time to move on to something better ,closer and higher paying.

I'm 59 years old working as an IT professional for a State University. I agree with your perspective - with my age, I'm competing with peers who are younger doing the same job. With the current job market for IT type professions though, I'm realistic. There have been massive lay-offs in IT profession in the past three years here in the US, so I figured its better for me to stick to my current employer and job role for three more years until I hit retirement. Hitting retirement means I get benefits like a pension, lifetime health care in addiition to Medicare and SS. The "lifetime health care" I don't think you get a package like that in corporate America. Then, once in retirement i can seek further career opportunities.
It will be what is left of free enterprise companies,--who will be interested in your talents. They have to make a profit to survive. The state does not.
Watch out for #1 that’s you cause nobody is going to, if you have a chance to better yourself do it, there’s no loyalty anymore. Don’t let emotions hold you back. When you’re old you’re a liability not an asset. Been there, seen it, went through it, done it.
I agree. Corporate loyalty is much harder to find and it goes both ways for sure. Always seek a better fit for you and your circumstances if your just not feeling it where you are.

I am 60, just changed jobs into a high profile role, and am not fulfilled at all. I am learning “to be content in every situation.” That being said, I also recognize that the Lord gives us insight into a situation m, wisdom, and a choice. For that reason, I am going to cast my cares on the Lord, seek Him, and cast my bread upon the water.

I think the key thing is to find something you like so even if the wage isn't exactly what you want, you can at least enjoy the work and support yourself. As for the adoption, we will have to pass. We are enjoying our empty nest and you are a little too old to be our grandchild. Good luck to you.
You still have 3 choices. Do nothing with your mind and live on welfare. Get a JOB, (which stands for Just Over Broke", or many of them like I did). Or think about your own business, and using Jobs to learn from, (do not tell the boss that). Getting a job for only the sake of a job, or owning a profitable business,--is the difference between being a slave or being free. As long as you can learn from a job, and have the ability to start your own business,---you are not a slave. If your business takes off, you will discover a freedom that you never knew existed. That is what I experienced. I never want a Job again.
@@EarthSurferUSA yeah well 90 percent of all businesses fail within the first year. So there goes my chances. Also most businesses require permits, investment and capital, so when your business goes down inevitably you basically lose everything you invested.

No offense but you’re talking from the perspective of already having money and changing jobs. You have a pension and likely some deferred comp funds. An RN makes decent cash and may have a pension too. Anyway, switching jobs in your mid 50s is no easy task. You don’t just start another job with the same salary you were getting. If you get lucky, maybe, buts it’s not common in every field. Most people need bucks if they’re looking for change, so they’re saddled with their current job.
I agree that we are extremely blessed and all of it came with God's timing. The best time to look for a better job is when you still have one to pay the bills. I was ready to take a step back in pay but I know that's not realistic for everyone. Point it, you don't what opportunity may be out three until you give it t a try. Thanks for watching and sharing!

I’m 61 and had been with that company for 26 years, through several acquisitions and many rounds of layoffs. I wasn’t crazy about the job but it was work from home with good people, paid well, lots of flexibility. So now we’re in NH, closing on our new house next week and I’ve applied to many jobs. Had one interview for a job I’ve decided I don’t want. Thinking of changing careers but not sure what. Want less stress. Lots of questions right now! We've been married for only seven years, and I'm 59, while my wife is a nurse who is currently not working due to recent health issues. The physical labor required in nursing became too demanding on her health, leading her to step back from the field she loves. I've worked for a major telecom company for almost 25 years and always enjoyed my job, never considering leaving. Then, out of the blue, they moved me to a role that was almost a 180-degree shift from what I was doing-a position I would have never applied for. This shift has made it very hard to focus on learning and becoming proficient in my new responsibilities. I was looking to retire in a couple of years, but now I'm not sure I can make it that long. They might either fire me, or I'll get too stressed and quit. I'm working on an escape plan by helping my wife start a new business and starting a side business myself. I'm hoping these ventures can replace my 9-5 soon. Thanks for sharing your story and words of encouragement. They mean a lot to us.

wow! thank you for sharing your stories and experienced. I am a foreign nurse graduate of BSN and a Registered Nurse. I passed my state board, so I have my Michigan License for nurse, I applied in Nursing facility near where my husband house is located, where most of the staff are LPN, but unfortunately I just work for 3 wks, for whatever reason. It's hard when you're new and supervising old staffs, so I applied again in a bigger nursing facility as a nursing supervisor, higher salary but I just work for 1 month due to under staffing, now I'm still looking for a hospital job, hopefully I can find the best job and an institution that will embrace and respect a foreign nurse like me🤞🙏

Thanks for posting this video! I really appreciate it! I was caught up in a department wide layoff in July of 2023 at the age of 53. I've had a 30 year career in animation, illustration and design. It took until the end of the year to find another job although it was a 4 month contract. That contract dissolved in mid-Feb though it was supposed to run until April. I'm now 54 and I still haven't secured a full-time job. I know God will provide and I have faith that something will come but it's frustrating not to have a solid income when you have so many bills to pay and no money to pay them. I freelance but a lot of the projects that I've been working on, are with clients that don't pay until the work is delivered (or later). Im glad i came across your video. I am in my 50s as well and have been going through the same thing you went through. This August, the 11th will be 1 year since i was let go from a job i had managed for almost 8 years. Since then, i decided to use my experience to start my own business, and i have to say its been tough and im not sure how much longer i can continue before i would need to find something concrete. Where we live, someone with my experience is very hard to find yet they will not give me the time of day. All that to say its been very hard on mu whole family and i feel at some point i have to stop the bleeding. I have been trying to keep the faith. At 60 years old now, I have had over 20 jobs in non-union manufacturing, (manufacturing, is the production of wealth), while earning 3 college degrees (2 in engineering), and I never found a JOB that did not live up to its meaning 'Just Over Broke". It was not until I started my own little business where I got out of poverty. I have bee a staunch believer that free enterprise belongs to the citizenry ever sine,--and is not compatible with communism. That is why we are going broke folks. Our federal government gave our free enterprise, (created by thinking citizens, mostly in the USA, with individual liberty protected by law), to communism so it can fund itself.

I have the same name and same situation. I'm 57 looking for meaningful work. Subtle age discrimination is real. I had 19 years as a VP in a small comapny but made a change to be outdoors doing a nonunion trade. I got injured, and that caused a spiral effect ofnwhere im at now. I have resources, so I'm not desperate, but I've been hunting for something suitable for about two years. I'm coming to the conclusion I'm unemployable so close to retirement age.

I’m also 54. An electrician for 37 years. I was “let go “ from my employer in April. I’m going through everything you have in your quest for work. I’m even applying to places I have no or little experience in. I do have a woodworking shop in my basement. I really only make things for my wife or family. I never wanted to be an electrician. It was just a job back then and stuck. I talked to my wife that I would like something with my woodworking while I’m looking for another job. She like freaked out on me. Saying that I’m trying not to go back to work. Which isn’t true. I think I’m actually better at woodworking than an electrician. She once mentioned that she doesn’t like when I make things for other people cause the things I make for her aren’t special anymore. So. I’m really pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do. I’ve had many interviews and I’m applying everywhere. Any advice?
I have found that senior citizens are more loyal and trustworthy to hire. They always show up for work and never call in sick. I would hire a senior citizen first.

I don't quite look at it that way, because employment is also an educational opportunity for your own business, if we are free enough and have the desire to start our own businesses. I want to thank everybody who gave me a Job,---but I also know I could not advance out of "Just above Poverty", until my little business took off. Any communist government can hire some people. The difference of a free society is free enterprise opportunity, and the liberty to pursue what ever you think is possible,------------with out being stolen from. I don't know if God had your back. But he gave us a brain to figure it out. :) If there was a time where God was actually proud of mankind,---it would have to be the formation of the USA, where we were free to use the brains God gave us, and achieve real progress out of the dirt with our free enterprise. You wold be proud of your kids if they did that too. :)

Fired at 57 on June 26, 2024. I know it takes time to get your resume in circulation. I had an interview today with the hiring arm for Amazon. Went well, the interviewer then said: “I communicate transparently…I am going to be honest with you…you are very polished & professional, this position is less than what you are capable of”, (aka: overqualified). She then asked me why I had applied, that I could be running the entire operation. I said to her “that’s why I applied”!!!
She made me a verbal offer on the spot & said I’d have it in writing tomorrow.
Yes, I’m overqualified. I knew I would be. Getting my foot in the door was all I wanted.

At 62 my company started changing my job. It was so bad I had to retire early. Thank god my wife has a great job. Amazingly, our daughter developed a drug problem and lost custody of her newborn baby. DCF asked if we would take the baby. What? I'm shopping for kayaks and golf clubs! It's been 8 months and the baby is awesome and we love supporting him and feel totally blessed by God. What this company meant for ill God turned to good. Always the way.

When I was 45 we got custody of my 8 year old grandson. I had a business and basically let it run down and was giving customers away. Luckily my wife had and still does have a great job! My grandson is now 21 and it was the best thing that could have ever happened. He and I have a business now and we are all very happy as far as work and life goes.
Please don’t give up on your daughter I e been there it’s not as easy as people think it is. It’s a disease in my opinion. Thank you for looking after the child!

I just did the same. My job was seriously making me physically sick because of how toxic it was. The young people who came in fought and gossiped everyday. Left after 25 years and I now wish I would have left sooner.
I'm 48, and our landlord passed away about 8 weeks ago, and 4 weeks ago the attorney for the son of my late landlord gave us a letter saying we needed to leave within 30 days. We are moving from Ohio to North Carolina and starting over in my professional life as well as in life in general. We are just starting this process of starting over again.

Congratulations! Its a little tougher when you are 67 and decide to go back to work. I worked for 34 years for a family owned trucking company managing their IT department. I learned computer work on my own and with the help of the programmer. I had no college education back in the 80s but this company gave me a shot. In 2022, the family sold the business. Things went downhill with the new owner and many large firms left. The new owner closed the doors in February of this year. I didn't mind because I was VERY unhappy in the last year. After 3 months I decided to look for another job. I was turned down at a lot of places. I got discouraged and a little depressed. I wasn't looking for the same salary. So at the beginning of June I spoke to a school crossing guard on our corner. Got the number of her supervisor and in 3 days had a part-time job. It only pays $24 an hour but I found that I was happy working with young grade school and middle school children. After school starts again at the end of August. I will try to work full time. If that doesn't work, then I will get a part-time job at Costco. Thanks for your video!

Since you like being with kids, drive a school bus. There’s a big shortage and the pay is better than being a crossing guard. They’ll train you to get your CDL. It’s so rewarding! I know, because I drive a school bus. 😊

Have you considered a career in the medical field (non-patient facing)? I am 50 and just starting a career as a Medical Records Technician. Pays well, age is irrelevant, and you can easily find a job at any doctor office/clinic/hospital. Don't give up, friend. But find something satisfying that can pay the bills.

I enjoyed my job and didn't view it as "a daily grind." I also had a lot of freedom and flexibility. Retirement for me has been all losses and no gains, I'm afraid. Each withdrawal, made it difficult for my savings to recover through compounding. It feels like etf's and bonds might just now be limiting my returns instead of managing risk.
I'm approaching retirement and having a financial advisor has been helpful. I started investing later than most, so relying on compound interest from index funds or bonds wasn’t enough for me. Despite that, I’ve managed to do well and am on track to retire with around $4 million

I know God brought me to this video. I am 58, currently burnt out and ready for retirement. I have applied for many jobs-nothing has come through yet. It is not clear to me if God wants me to stay here miserable, quit keep looking, if nothing comes retire to a lower paying job just to get Medicial insurance. I put all this personal stuff out here knowing the Lord has a plan but looking for guidance and or encouragement from anyone and everyone.
Keep the faith! I was applying for 18 months or more before He led me to this job. Don't let rejections get you down, it's their loss!!
At 65 I am starting a water heater installation business, sometimes the best solution is to create your own employment. May God guide us all in His will.
The Lord gave us a brain that can figure out reality (if practiced), and advance mankind. So we formed the USA, which used to be called 'The land Of Opportunity", before there was a welfare system. What would happen if you got of the "worker" mentality, (any communist nation can hire "workers", and started a business that took off like mine did? You would then understand the freedom we used to have, that created every industry we have created. The most happiness I have ever experienced, (and I had a good childhood), by far, was when after working for over 20 companies in manufacturing, earning several college degrees (2 in engineering), and still just above poverty like you are,---was when my business took off from my own knowledge and efforts. It was amazing, and I never want to be a "worker" again. I did not know it with all those jobs and education. But I was gaining my own opportunity. You won't find that opportunity--working for the state. If you lose that job and get black balled,---you are screwed. I just got another Job in what is left of our free enterprise, and if I had the skill, they were happy to hire me. Even at 60, I can go back to Grand Rapids Michigan, and get a job (they pay better today because of the shrinking talent) in a week. But the freedom of your own business, and happiness from personal achievement,---can not be had with employment IMO.
I despise the union/communistic word, "worker", as it implies that you are to be nothing more. In reality, you can't be much less, as JOB stand for "Just Over Broke".
That is why God gave us a brain that can figure out reality if practiced, to achieve and better our lives. We have to have individual liberty protected by law, and free enterprise in our hands as a citizenry (where it started in the first place), in order be what God meant us to be. The only time God was proud of mankind,---is when we formed the USA. But that nations is gone now. But the "Hero" does not work for the state. The Hero was free to create a factory of wealth making production, and opportunity for any employee who thought of being more than a "worker". Welcome to communism in the USA today. Doug in Michgian

I always thought that was just an excuse,
in my line of work the turnover is awful-the idea that someone is going to be loyal and dedicated is unrealistic,
AND 90% of every new hire is totally inexperienced and will be trained by someone who doesnt have the experience themselves,
I know what I'm doing, I love this line of work,
THEN you run into this generation that hasnt achieved, the sense of entitlement is shocking......and arrogant, they look at us as if we arent smart enough to have ever played the entitlement card for ourselves-you get a great understanding and example of "blissfully ignorant",
I think a lot of the "ageism" is the "threat" of that "old f*cker"'s experience where their own crippling lack of self esteem mixed with their own inexperience easily fuels them to pass on hiring that person, this is happening everywhere, I dont see how the business world is going to be a viable success in the real near future,
even in this vid, this guy acknowledges what I'm saying by making the comment "...even though my boss is young I HAVE TO BELIEVE he's in his position because he knows what he's doing.....", TO make that comment I know where he's coming from,
I'm 55, that aint sh*t as far as age goes, most of us are a "LeBron James" in our field of work where we're being passed on for a #1 draft pick that never meets the lowest of expectations, EVERY time, and those who insist on drafting those lofty expectations get "famous" for being idiots,
I used to get dejected over the "ageism" and that lasted for about a second, ESPECIALLY today-experience is gold, I've worked for places who thought upon hire that I was gifting my experience to them-as if they had a copyright on my expertise, NOPE, and I let places know that if that's the direction I see them going-dont let them get their hopes up,
You just have to keep looking until you find a company that will value your experience. They are out there, just maybe not as plentiful as they used to be. Good luck to you.

My comment on "you have to believe" was more of a statement relating that it won't do you any good to think negatively about your younger manager, especially until he/she proves that they do or don't know what they are doing. I just find that maintaining a positive outlook goes much farther than thinking the world is just serving you sh*t sandwiches.

I can completely relate! Last year, I walked off my job for the first time ever, at 63!!! Since then, I’ve gone through savings, sold my car, had many interviews, and accepted a couple offers (had competing offers as well for the first time in my life), but everything has fallen through, or not worked out for me. Finally I’m starting to see that God is leading me somewhere, even though it’s hard to see it. You finally get to the point where your vision clears, and you start resisting. Working has been difficult for me all my life, I’ve had so much stress about working. It’s how my parents felt as well, and I thought that was all there was. I honestly think I am meant to be a content creator! I am so inspired by the stories, and all the journeys that people are on. It’s good to know I’m not alone. Really appreciated your story!❤

I retired 3 years ago at the age of 60 (radiation therapy supervisor) due to an untenable situation with the consultant hired to pare back staff. After watching 14 people being pushed out of their jobs, I decided i WOULD NOT let my 40 year career end on someone else's terms and took the plunge by ending my career abruptly.
THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVR MADE!!! this move allowed me to be available for my family (which turned out to be fortuitous) and enjoy retirement while I was still healthy to travel and enjoy my retirement years.
Fast forward 3 years later: My husband I 1 have traveled all over the US, have been available for kids/ grandkids and have a MUCH BETTER quality of life in this season of life.
My advice to everyone: Live frugally and retire as soon as you can!!

At 61, I, along with my entire healthcare IT department are being outsourced to an India-based company. After 35+ years in IT, I'm ready to make a career change to something else in the near future. I feel like the Lord is guiding this transition for me.
I am thankful that my current job is providing 11 weeks of severence AND they will have to pay out over 450 hours of PTO at 100% of my hourly rate that I have stingily saved over my time at this company.

I hate to hear that. I am 47 and trying to make a career change to IT.
I worked for a company for 28 years and got laid off in 2020 - like a lot of people did during the pandemic. I've worked my entire life with no break since I was 15, so that was a frightening time being in my 50's! I got very lucky and was employed only 5 months later and even beat out my severance pay. Ended up being hired by a super smart and talented 29 year old manager. I wouldn't tell anyone my age when I first started lol. However, I brought years of experience and jumped right in. Fast forward only 3 years later and she left the company just this past February and my coworker left a couple months later. That left some doors open and I just got promoted to be the manager of our Interior Design dept. and I'm about to hire someone to work under me for the first time in my career. You just never know how things will unfold.

I am 63 now, and I just graduated from college with an A.S. in accounting, I have not actively been looking for accounting jobs yet, but I have been reading many job postings, many employers want potential entry-level accountants to have x number of years experience, I do not worry about it. I’m 51 and got fired from my last job after 11 years at my last company as an executive. I’m still looking for work and it’s been 7 months and I’ve been praying on it and it’s even brought me back to church for the first time in 20 years. I’m not sure what the next steps are… and it hasn’t been easy. I’ve had a really cut back my lifestyle and spending and I’m OK with that, but the stress it’s put on the family and my kids and my wife is there. I’m praying that God has a better plan for me whatever that is.

This job had it all...work from home, amazing income potential, zero to little supervision required, however, it was sales and at 54 I was just burned out and lost the drive for sales. I had been telling my wife about how I was feeling for a couple of years before my termination. To make matters worse, our family went through a catastrophic event with our local school district at the end of the school year. It rocked us to the core and completely blindsided us. So, here I am 54, jobless, asking God to heal our family from what the school district put us through. Your video came by no accident. It is divine intervention, for sure. The current job market is brutal or everyone, but ageism is certainly a hurdle. Even though I know God has a plan on His timeline for me, I struggle with being patient enough to understand His timing.

I had 3 small companies in my area call and offer me positions one of which i took as a learning opertunity. My wife and i are moving to a new state in the next few months to pursue change, oppertunity, and happiness. Something we have been wanting for about a decade now. Then in June of this year, out of the blue my boss notifies me that they have eliminated my position and I was given 2 weeks severance. I'm actively looking and like you have come in second for three jobs. Your story encouraged me that God has just the perfect job for me, not to sell myself short, and to wait on Him.

Thanks for this. I left a job I was unhappy in three months ago. The obstacles kept getting bigger and the money was actually going significantly the other way due to economics…bonus money went away. I felt trapped and quit under good terms.
I’m 52 and it has been harder than I thought to replace the job. I took a big bold step. I’m confident I’ll end up better in the end but it’s stressful in the interim.

After being in my job for 17 years with a multinational I was laid off. With excellent education, credentials and experience I went out looking for another job and it was absolutely brutal. I ended up taking a job well below my experience level so that I could at least pull in an income and thankfully found another job through connections when I did volunteer work. This is such an encouraging story! Thanks for sharing it! I had a similar experience.... I was diagnosed with. a particularly deadly form of cancer at the age of 55. Almost two years of treatment and recovery ended with a very disappointing job search at the age of 58, until a fervent prayer asking God where He wanted me to go...I would go there. The very next day I tripped over 2 job posting for a congregation of Catholic Sisters: Dir. Of Mission Advancement and Dir. of Communications (my background was in software sales and marketing)! I got an interview immediately and they combined both roles and hired me. That was 5 years ago, and I have NEVER been happier! The cancer proved to be a great blessing...and by the way, with the average age of the Sisters being 85, I'm the young kid in the office! 🙂. May God continue to bless you both!

At 56 I spent 2 years trying to get out of current job I had had enough of - ageism is rife however after 2 years I ended up with 3 different job offers all wanting my experience for their younger staff - in last 3 weeks of 3 moths notice of resignation (58 now) start new job soon - NEVER GIVE UP - this video is so true

My current position was a stressful workload, and the lack of managerial support was demoralizing. My health began to suffer. I stepped out on faith and found a job in 30 days. I am nervous but I know that my 20 years of skills and knowledge will be valued in this new position. GOD always leads you where you are suppose to be.
What a great story! 🙌 I am 50, and just switched jobs a year and a half ago for a move up. Right now, in my field of civil engineering, the kids are not interested, and with boomers retiring the past 5 years, we are so short on engineers that are asking retired guys to come back to work. It's totally the opposite of the 2009 great recession. Kids have no idea how hard it was to get a job then. I was laid off by a city along with 200 others.
It's interesting how the job market shifts over time, isn't it? Glad you landed on your feet!
The civil engineers who repaved my road 2 years ago, sure messed it up,---because they don't have any free enterprise competition. They can be as dysfunctional as they are. Not true with competitive free enterprise,--where we get better at things.

Ageism does exist but don’t spend too much time on it. Work your plan, continue to learn, be agile and grow.

It’s a western world problem where people feel stuck in their jobs and the older we get the harder it is to let go even if we hate it there. I’m 45, UK based and I quit the corporate world 6 months ago and things couldn’t be better! Fear will get you feeling stuck so. I also encourage others to choose to be happy and make a change especially what could be the last 20-30 years of their life. ❤❤

Ageism is very real! My experience and hard work that got me from receiving to Director of Operations should be screaming loud and clear this is the person we need to hire! I haven’t heard a thing! Thank you for the video! Ageism is a stark reality. My husband, at 58, has been diligently searching for a job for 10 months after his company was sold. It's disheartening to see him reach the end of the interview rounds only to be turned away, likely due to his age. What's even more frustrating is that I've observed many in their 30s and 40s leave their jobs within 1-2 years, yet they seem to be preferred over someone with my husband's experience, achievements, and skills.
It may take a while but I will pray an opportunity that values your husbands experience and loyalty comes along. I think there a more and more companies that are recognizing the perils that come with hiring potential short term employees and they are turning back to looking for experience, no matter how long they can draw from them.
I went to truck driving school at age 60 after floundering financially for 2 years after selling my pool service business, could not handle the Florida heat anymore. Did trucking for 4 years then took SS and a part time weekend job working in hospitals. Never to late to reinvent yourself.
I was thinking about truck driving as an “encore” career. Doing some OTR. I wonder if trucking is a good choice.

I got fired from all my jobs, last one at 27. Best thing that ever happened to me. No one ever gave me a job after that which was the perfect excuse to not work again in my life. It truly has been a blessing. I quit the system ever since. No plans of going back.

So weird how this situation is almost similar to mine. My fiancé is a nurse and I am much older than her making 6 figures for a specialty pharmacy and we hit a point like you when I got fired. But before I got fired I was already searching and I was able to get a job in no time at my age by God's grace. God has a reason for everything, and thankfully she is a nurse and will always have a job. Thanks for your story I came across your video just by random, keep it up. 😁

There will be plenty of nurses who won't be able to find a job. The now state run health care industry can not hire all the graduates being taught to work for the state today.
Where did you two meet?
I worked for a company for 30 years, and all the way to VP level. My company then was bought by a larger company. I landed a VP role with the new company, but never felt fully embraced by the Executive. It just didn’t feel like a good fit. And at the same time I was struggling with wanting to retire more than I wanted to work there, and perhaps they sensed this too. I knew I couldn’t stay and would need to retire or find something else with another company. And then the best thing that could have possibly happened- they offered me a new role or a retirement package. Perfect timing - and this allowed me to retire 2 years earlier than I had planned at 54 years. I could have stayed and made more money, but I knew it was time for a new adventure.
It sounds like you had a significant journey in your career! Making the decision to move on and embrace a new adventure takes courage, and retiring early must feel amazing. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter!
I got laid off 5 years ago and I have applied to so many jobs and no lack I will be 50 next month.I made a change and decided to switch and apply in healthcare and behold when I applied for direct care position I kid you not within 5mins of applying I had a job . I have a bachelor in Business Mgmt I’ve decided to go back to school and do nursing.

I work a full time job & a part time job & I'am 64 now, both my employers jumped at the chance to hire, And were so happy to hire people to work for them from the era, That I grew up in & they both hired my sister too, who is 2 years younger than me ;0

Right on ! I'm 55 and have been in a low paying but somewhat comfortable position that just doesn't cut it. I've been reluctant to take any old position because there's only so much I'm willing to put up with. It's taking a toll on my peace of mind , my ability to get to sleep and my ability to create a future for myself. I know it's time to move on to something better ,closer and higher paying.

I'm 59 years old working as an IT professional for a State University. I agree with your perspective - with my age, I'm competing with peers who are younger doing the same job. With the current job market for IT type professions though, I'm realistic. There have been massive lay-offs in IT profession in the past three years here in the US, so I figured its better for me to stick to my current employer and job role for three more years until I hit retirement. Hitting retirement means I get benefits like a pension, lifetime health care in addiition to Medicare and SS. The "lifetime health care" I don't think you get a package like that in corporate America. Then, once in retirement i can seek further career opportunities.
It doesn't hurt to look though. You don't have to leave unless the opportunity is something you really want.
It will be what is left of free enterprise companies,--who will be interested in your talents. They have to make a profit to survive. The state does not.

Watch out for #1 that’s you cause nobody is going to, if you have a chance to better yourself do it, there’s no loyalty anymore. Don’t let emotions hold you back. When you’re old you’re a liability not an asset. Been there, seen it, went through it, done it.
I agree. Corporate loyalty is much harder to find and it goes both ways for sure. Always seek a better fit for you and your circumstances if your just not feeling it where you are.

Whoa! Thank you for the encouragement! I really don’t know how I stumbled upon your channel, but I am very grateful to have found it, especially this segment. I certainly see the hand of God in this. I am 60, just changed jobs into a high profile role, and am not fulfilled at all. I am learning “to be content in every situation.” That being said, I also recognize that the Lord gives us insight into a situation m, wisdom, and a choice. For that reason, I am going to cast my cares on the Lord, seek Him, and cast my bread upon the water.

I’m 34, jobless, afraid of wage slavery and don’t intend to apply for jobs that take more than half an hour to commute to.
I was wondering if you guys can adopt me. I’m always on my best behavior.
I think the key thing is to find something you like so even if the wage isn't exactly what you want, you can at least enjoy the work and support yourself.

You still have 3 choices. Do nothing with your mind and live on welfare. Get a JOB, (which stands for Just Over Broke", or many of them like I did). Or think about your own business, and using Jobs to learn from, (do not tell the boss that). Getting a job for only the sake of a job, or owning a profitable business,--is the difference between being a slave or being free. As long as you can learn from a job, and have the ability to start your own business,---you are not a slave. If your business takes off, you will discover a freedom that you never knew existed. That is what I experienced. I never want a Job again.

Also most businesses require permits, investment and capital, so when your business goes down inevitably you basically lose everything you invested.

No offense but you’re talking from the perspective of already having money and changing jobs. You have a pension and likely some deferred comp funds. An RN makes decent cash and may have a pension too.
Anyway, switching jobs in your mid 50s is no easy task. You don’t just start another job with the same salary you were getting. If you get lucky, maybe, buts it’s not common in every field. Most people need bucks if they’re looking for change, so they’re saddled with their current job.
I agree that we are extremely blessed and all of it came with God's timing. The best time to look for a better job is when you still have one to pay the bills. I was ready to take a step back in pay but I know that's not realistic for everyone. Point it, you don't what opportunity may be out three until you give it t a try. Thanks for watching and sharing!

I’m 61 and had been with that company for 26 years, through several acquisitions and many rounds of layoffs. I wasn’t crazy about the job but it was work from home with good people, paid well, lots of flexibility. So now we’re in NH, closing on our new house next week and I’ve applied to many jobs. Had one interview for a job I’ve decided I don’t want. Thinking of changing careers but not sure what. Want less stress. Lots of questions right now! We've been married for only seven years, and I'm 59, while my wife is a nurse who is currently not working due to recent health issues. The physical labor required in nursing became too demanding on her health, leading her to step back from the field she loves. I've worked for a major telecom company for almost 25 years and always enjoyed my job, never considering leaving. Then, out of the blue, they moved me to a role that was almost a 180-degree shift from what I was doing-a position I would have never applied for. This shift has made it very hard to focus on learning and becoming proficient in my new responsibilities. I was looking to retire in a couple of years, but now I'm not sure I can make it that long. They might either fire me, or I'll get too stressed and quit. I'm working on an escape plan by helping my wife start a new business and starting a side business myself. I'm hoping these ventures can replace my 9-5 soon. Thanks for sharing your story and words of encouragement. They mean a lot to us.

I’ve been so disappointed with the constant daily stressors in my current position and have been experiencing changes in my body which are clear signs it’s time to adjust and move forward. wow! thank you for sharing your stories and experienced. I am a foreign nurse graduate of BSN and a Registered Nurse. I passed my state board, so I have my Michigan License for nurse, I applied in Nursing facility near where my husband house is located, where most of the staff are LPN, but unfortunately I just work for 3 wks, for whatever reason. It's hard when you're new and supervising old staffs, so I applied again in a bigger nursing facility as a nursing supervisor, higher salary but I just work for 1 month due to under staffing, now I'm still looking for a hospital job, hopefully I can find the best job and an institution that will embrace and respect a foreign nurse like me🤞🙏

Thanks for posting this video! I really appreciate it! I was caught up in a department wide layoff in July of 2023 at the age of 53. I've had a 30 year career in animation, illustration and design. It took until the end of the year to find another job although it was a 4 month contract. That contract dissolved in mid-Feb though it was supposed to run until April. I'm now 54 and I still haven't secured a full-time job. I know God will provide and I have faith that something will come but it's frustrating not to have a solid income when you have so many bills to pay and no money to pay them. I freelance but a lot of the projects that I've been working on, are with clients that don't pay until the work is delivered (or later). Im glad i came across your video. I am in my 50s as well and have been going through the same thing you went through. This August, the 11th will be 1 year since i was let go from a job i had managed for almost 8 years. Since then, i decided to use my experience to start my own business, and i have to say its been tough and im not sure how much longer i can continue before i would need to find something concrete. Where we live, someone with my experience is very hard to find yet they will not give me the time of day. All that to say its been very hard on mu whole family and i feel at some point i have to stop the bleeding. I have been trying to keep the faith.
