Yes I could feel (while watching this video). Sir Paul McCartney was still sad about that great loss of his wife, Linda (died last 1998), he's still grieving that time, I read some articles that he grieved for more than a year, if I'm not mistaken.

It was undoubtedly an extremely tough night which his daughter softened by her support. As for being a northern man, well, he valued his family above all else, didn't he...learning this from his own dad following one of the worst wars in history...very sort of traditional and basic. It molded Paul's thinking as it did with many young men back then.
It is good to see that Paul is much happier now. Nancy apparently takes good care of him, and his daughter Stella is a big, big success. He deserves happiness. Paul IS the man!

I want to cry to see how emotional Paul is here, totally naked. He needed Stella for emotional support and that she gave him. I was widowed fairly young and the doctor had me on anti-depressants. Losing your wife or husband is the worst thing you can go through in life and it always leaves a hole, even later when you're fairly happy again.

Met him and Linda with the kids at airport. They were amazingly nice. A bu ch of 17 yr olds asking for an autograph and he joyfully signed and said I would be no where without the fans. A definite highlight in my little life.

He was promised by Jann Wenner (of the Rolling Stone, who has considerable sway over the Rock Hall of Fame; let’s be real, the two work in conjunction) to be inducted four years earlier. Wenner has always resented Paul on a personal level for no clear reason, forcing his staff to change reviews of Paul’s early solo efforts from positive to negative, and riding the “Lennon Remembers” fame train for as long as possible, even after John took back his rant years later. Wenner broke his promise, and that’s why Linda didn’t get to see Paul inducted, and that’s why Stella’s shirt says “Fucking finally.” We can’t ignore the dirty media politics that cause decent people considerable harm.
Jann Werner was a big part of the reason why people played the John vs Paul game for so long. He put John on a pedestal since the first cover and Paul was the guy who wrote old fogey songs. Unless you were in the know back then, they made up years before Lennon's death. But that didn't make good copy. So let's keep the narrative going, which does no one any good. And can you imagine Jann printing a positive comment on any of Paul's songs? John did like a lot of them, including Silly Love Songs (which was based on a John comment 😂)

A beautiful speech from the heart the year after his beloved wife died. All things considered, he did very well. Stella was a wonderful proxy for Linda since her presence may have been what enabled him to get through it. Anybody who didn't like his speech simply didn't understand.
I love the Beatles. We all had our favorite, even though we loved them all, Paul was always my mystery date. Every song, written just for me. Thank you, Paul for the memories. They are the greatest.

I find Paul to be an amazing man. Not only because of his amazing accomplishments, but how he has handled the tragedies in his life along with the fact that he is idolized where ever he goes. He keeps himself down to earth, focused on one of his first loves, music, and still keeps on entertaining others to this day. There are others who have had much less fame than he and have done a lot worse. Michael Jackson being one of them. Not picking on Michael, but you can see what could have happened,

Paul's wife Linda had just passed away mere months before this ceremony. I am widowed and I can tell you it takes years to get "normal" again after your spouse passes.

And how ironic...the last time he was on that stage it was to induct his dear friend John Lennon into the Hall of Fame. He TOO was not there to experience it. Was always a HUGE Lennon fan...mourned when he died... mourned - felt like I'd lost a part of myself - always thought Paul was full of himself...then I matured & saw the wood for the trees... what a great ballad writer he is... such as "I Will"..."Blackbird"... "Long and Winding Road"... et al... watched vids of him & Linda on horses riding on their farm...so happy & down to earth... how he felt for Julian & Cynthia when they were being treated dispicably by John...(£75k was divorce settlement paid Cynthia - Yoko has a lot to answer for) Also the good father he's been to his kids... admirable to say the least...am a big fan now - hope he'd help less fortunates - homeless in UK is rife... sad...
I also want to thank Paul for inspiring Neil Young to become a rock and roll musician. Neil turned out to be one of the very best song writers and musicians in rock and roll.

Paul usually maintains a bullet-proof public demeanor that only cracks occasionally - e.g., when Lennon was shot - but he's drunk (probably on purpose to show he, too, doesn't care) and lets his guard down. You guys are ragging on him for it, but this is a truly rare glimpse at Paul himself and not Paul's superb public relations skills. He knew he was getting the award, but intentionally decided against a prepared speech. Must have been an emotional night/time for him. I like his candor.

It's very sad to see an uncharacteristically drunken Paul in the middle of his grief. I also find it sad to see how much these kind of awards and accolades clearly meant to Paul at that time. Like he really needed the validation. Which is really ridiculous, because he was a fucking BEATLE - and musically, compositionally, emotionally he'd given as much as anyone to The Beatles (maybe more, given his efforts to keep it all going in the later years). But let's not forget: he'd had a rough time of it in the 80s and 90s -constantly being compared to the newly canonised John, and often not in favourable terms. It's noticeable how defensive he is in interviews during that period. I'm very glad that Paul seems to have found much more peace of mind in recent years. Pop culture has acknowledged his rightful place as an equal to John. And he seems to have come to terms with his own extraordinary legacy.

I want to cry to see how emotional Paul is here, totally naked. He needed Stella for emotional support and that she gave him. I was widowed fairly young and the doctor had me on anti-depressants. Losing your wife or husband is the worst thing you can go through in life and it always leaves a hole, even later when you're fairly happy again.
His baby Linda who he was married to forever until her untimely death, I always admired their love. God Bless them both.

Met him and Linda with the kids at airport. They were amazingly nice. A bu ch of 17 yr olds asking for an autograph and he joyfully signed and said I would be no where without the fans. A definite highlight in my little life.
Paul’s pain here is multifaceted. He was promised by Jann Wenner (of the Rolling Stone, who has considerable sway over the Rock Hall of Fame; let’s be real, the two work in conjunction) to be inducted four years earlier. Wenner has always resented Paul on a personal level for no clear reason, forcing his staff to change reviews of Paul’s early solo efforts from positive to negative, and riding the “Lennon Remembers” fame train for as long as possible, even after John took back his rant years later. Wenner broke his promise, and that’s why Linda didn’t get to see Paul inducted, and that’s why Stella’s shirt says “Fucking finally.” We can’t ignore the dirty media politics that cause decent people considerable harm.
Jann Werner was a big part of the reason why people played the John vs Paul game for so long. He put John on a pedestal since the first cover and Paul was the guy who wrote old fogey songs. Unless you were in the know back then, they made up years before Lennon's death. But that didn't make good copy. So let's keep the narrative going, which does no one any good.
And can you imagine Jann printing a positive comment on any of Paul's songs? John did like a lot of them, including Silly Love Songs (which was based on a John comment 😂)

However, Paul, as a solo artist had 4 times as many top 10 hits as John, more #1 hits, more gold and platinum albums, but he was made to wait. BS.

A beautiful speech from the heart the year after his beloved wife died. All things considered, he did very well. Stella was a wonderful proxy for Linda since her presence may have been what enabled him to get through it. Anybody who didn't like his speech simply didn't understand.
I love the Beatles. We all had our favorite, even though we loved them all, Paul was always my mystery date. Every song, written just for me. Thank you, Paul for the memories. They are the greatest.

After Paul agreed to induct John in 1995, Wenner told him you’ll be inducted next year. Next year came around and he was passed over. When Linda called Wenner’s office to complain, she was told, “Paul McCartney will be inducted into the R&R Hall when you’re a widow.” Finally, the year AFTER Linda’s death, when Paul was the widower, he finally got in. That was Jann Wenner, who thought he was championing Lennon by systematically setting out to destroy McCartney’s reputation from the moment the Beatles broke up. I wouldn’t have blamed Paul had he snubbed the ceremony. But he went because of Linda, because she fought hard for him to be there

I find Paul to be an amazing man. Not only because of his amazing accomplishments, but how he has handled the tragedies in his life along with the fact that he is idolized where ever he goes. He keeps himself down to earth, focused on one of his first loves, music, and still keeps on entertaining others to this day.
There are others who have had much less fame than he and have done a lot worse.

This is very heart wrenching to watch. The poor man just lost the love of his life, and he's accepting an award that she had wanted him so desperately to have. And how ironic...the last time he was on that stage it was to induct his dear friend John Lennon into the Hall of Fame. He TOO was not there to experience it. I'm sure so much was going through Paul's mind that night..happiness, sadness. I would've been drunk out of my mind as well.

Paul usually maintains a bullet-proof public demeanor that only cracks occasionally - e.g., when Lennon was shot - but he's drunk (probably on purpose to show he, too, doesn't care) and lets his guard down. You guys are ragging on him for it, but this is a truly rare glimpse at Paul himself and not Paul's superb public relations skills. He knew he was getting the award, but intentionally decided against a prepared speech. Must have been an emotional night/time for him. I like his candor.
Wow ... never seen McCartney in that way ... very sad but hes living the life of a beatle which no one will ever know what thats like. Im just grateful to have been able to see paul live last year so hes still doin alright right!!
Paul looks so young and old at the same time
It's very sad to see an uncharacteristically drunken Paul in the middle of his grief. I also find it sad to see how much these kind of awards and accolades clearly meant to Paul at that time. Like he really needed the validation. Which is really ridiculous, because he was a fucking BEATLE - and musically, compositionally, emotionally he'd given as much as anyone to The Beatles (maybe more, given his efforts to keep it all going in the later years).
But let's not forget: he'd had a rough time of it in the 80s and 90s -constantly being compared to the newly canonised John, and often not in favourable terms. It's noticeable how defensive he is in interviews during that period.
I'm very glad that Paul seems to have found much more peace of mind in recent years. Pop culture has acknowledged his rightful place as an equal to John. And he seems to have come to terms with his own extraordinary legacy.
