What an incredible review. Short, to the point, full of relevant information, not a second wasted, well filmed and explained, bravo! Keep up the good work!
I was initially very uninterested as i dont often shoot 50mm…but when using zooms ive found to end up a lot between 40-70mm…the longer focal length would usually give me more subject isolation, but i had NO IDEA what this lens can do at 50….ive now got one and was unsure at first if i should keep it (quite the investment indeed!) and compared it to the 55mm zeiss and maaaan…its so much better…the bokeh is absolutely gorgeous and the sharpness, clarity and color rendition are amazing…even without knowing i mostly selected the gm filed in my catalogue as favs simply for its absolutely sublime rendering..
Which aperture would you say is the sweet spot as in “ sharpest footage” you can achieve when doing video? I want to use this lens for rolling car footage . But not sure if I should leave it at 1.2 or bump it to a f4 or 5 to get the sharpest video
The aperture ring stops at f1.2 and f16 and it can't align "A" with aperture index, and I don't want to force it. How do align the auto "A" on aperture scale to aperture index so that exposure can be set by camera rather than aperture ring on the lens? Can the aperture/iris be adjusted using a designated dial on the camera instead of using the aperture ring on the lens itself?
oooh thats a tough one, they are both fantastic optically but I think the Sony is maybe a touch cleaner. However I prefer the image from the Otus. Jake
Hi , Can you please do a comparison on best Zoom Lens for Video. -Canon RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM Lens -CANON RF 28-70MM LENS F/2 L USM -Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 G Master Lens -Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 AF DG DN Art
Honestly I don’t know why anyone would invest in anything but the sigma EFs. They adapt well to different mounts, have incredible optics and come at a very low price compared to the competition. Also focus by wire isn’t really a great idea for cinema. If you don’t mind the weight, they really do give a much better bang for the buck and offer more versatility.
Hmm, I think it depends on what you are filming and how you operate. For some 'small' productions trustworthy focus by wire is next to essential and a very big boon. If it's a big screen production with an experienced focus puller then yes, manual cinema lenses are the way to go. BobUK.
@@bobuk5722 there are definite conveniences to focus by wire. No doubt about it. But I think for narrative filmmaking, it’s still more of a hinderance because filmmakers are always choosing different cameras and mounts from project to project.
Already owning the 50mm 1.4 Sony/Zeiss, there's nothing in this video that would inspire me to pick up the 1.2. I have no doubt the 1.2 is the superior lens, but the older 1.4 is still REALLY good, with perhaps the only true gripe being an older designed focus motor that is quite noisy compared to the newer lenses.
This is a re-upload after we noticed an error in the video. Let us know what you think of the lens down below!

Awesome , would love to see how it compares to the 50 1.2 RF Canon + 50 1.4 Zeiss otus :D
i need this so much in my life !! Back when i used canon the 50 1.2 was my absolute favorite lens i show everything with it and i simply want it ^^
I use the 50mm focal length all the time for my wedding films. Will upgrade from my zeiss 55 1.8 to his one for sure now. :)
It has pretty visible focus breathing - may not be great for video. Definitely good for photos.
@@michalborkowski2132 it's okay, I don't do a lot of focus pulls anyway :)
you make VERY fine reviews :) Thanks a bunch!
I love the image yiu create in this vid. pleasing to watch, thx

Pity you couldn't test it alongside Canon 50 1.2 RF as I guess it would be its closest competitor, but great review nonetheless!
Do you own both canon and Sony cameras ?
The Nikon 50mm1.2S is great too. And no focus breathing.
The vignette section(6:25-6:59) is blank. Otherwise, great clip on the 50GM, and comparisons!
No it's not?
Beautiful review.

hello super video, I need your opinion I have a 24gm and 85 gm that advise me on the 35gm or 50 gm thank you for your return
Why all the dislikes? This video is perfectly done.
They cant afford it.
The price difference between the sony and sigma is nuts!
Yeah the Sigma is an absolute bargain! Jake
If you don’t care about autofocus and price which one do you prefer between sony50 1.2 gm and zeiss otus 55 1.4?

-CANON RF 28-70MM LENS F/2 L USM
-Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 G Master Lens
-Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 AF DG DN Art
I think they have exactly that.
😢this lens is my not showing wide
The best bokeh is at f/1.4 Those are peferct circles
Amazing review. How there could be those dislikes

When you said "anyone", you meant "filmmakers", which is a subset of video shooters which is a subset of everyone.

It’s so shallow it’s unsafe to do bellyflops on
I honestly think focus breathing looks good. What a great video, thanks for sharing (:
I honestly think this focus breathing is unacceptable for this price. I stick to the 50 1.8...
Not for video. For photos yes.
there is no 100mm GM lens, you got that wrong
Google Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS. Jake
Compare it to the Nikon 50mm1.2S. It’s bigger, but that’s to eliminate focus breathing.
The difference in the size of bokeh balls with 1.4 lenses is minimal, almost like it's a 1.4 lens. Canon is a clear winner in this regard.
chart test are the worst smh show real world use
They did. They showed portraits and BTs video of that lens repair…
