Yes they definitely sleep its adorable but when they wake up they make a sudden movement like they were a little startled. But once they realize its me they start doing the happy wiggle

Fish do sleep, they stay very still. But just go over to the tank and they will continue swimming
And sometimes they can look dead when they do it

They have a day-night cycle, just like we have! And they need it to stay healthy, also like we need it!

Of course they sleep. I have two goldfish and when they sleep they stay still and sorta float in the water.
I had a really cute fan tail who always took naps. He would take one at the surface and look dead. When his friends touched him he’d wake up and swim somewhere else :3

I had a group of single-tailed goldfish, they'd all lay together at the bottom.
Rehomed to bigger fish tank with a new owner, but thought it was cool to see it.

In conclusion, fish sleep a lot like axolotls: they use their frills (or in this case, mouth) to push and circulate water, and in one spot toward the bottom of the tank.

Been watching your videos for a few now, they are adorable. Process of moving, and I will have some fish again. I had a really nice salt water fish years ago, and I cut a hole in the wall in my livingroom, which adjoined my bedroom. And had my fish tank installed in there!! I loved it! And yep! Lights out!! They come to a really slow movement! Keep up the good work!! Your fish are so adorable, and you can make them come so alive!! Love it!🥰❤🙋♀️👍👋👋
Dude, I’ve learned more from watching you for 2 months than I’ve learned in the 30+ years of having fish. Like, damn. You should be a teacher. You would keep kids so entertained they wouldn’t realize they were learning!! Or at least come teach the “moe-moes” that work in our local stores. on saturday i found some random mystery fish including a odd looking betta, a red and white goldfish, some crayfish and guppies and some mystery plants in my cichlid tank. the cichlids attacked the goldfish and i couldnt save it.
luckily it was just a dream but now i want mystery fish to appear in my community tanks.

Chichlids aren't actually aggressive at all, my dad used to own some and would put them in a tank along with other fish, including bettas. They're actually pretty chill with other fish hanging out in their habitat. It's only other bettas that they hate.

My goldfish George who I got at a carnival when I was little lived for quite some time, I believe around 4-5 years and he would literally sleep on his back and float to the top. But he was fine! And my cat Neeko didn’t care to eat him but just drink some of his water, haha

Anyone who's had betta fish knows bettas love to sleep! They will lay on any relatively comfy horizontal surface to snooze. I was curious how goldfish sleep and now I know, thanks!
Mine either sleep at the bottom or at the top. They love to sleep
@@apss5736 I had a betta who was obssessed with sleeping upside down. He would stuff himself between the heater & the glass so his mouth was pointing straight down and his tail straight up and he'd sleep inverted that way for hours.
@@bettagems9209 I used to have a betta fish that I named Blu. Lived for ten years before dying of old age, they don't really live very long. But he would always sleep on the bottom of his tank. Rest in peace, Blu. You FANTASTIC fish, you.

Betta fish do this too. They don't really swim around too much, anyway. So, like goldies, bettas will actually use their mouths to forcefully push water over their gills. Some SHARK species do this too, believe it or not.
i'm considering getting a 5 foot tank which is roughly 120 gallons and I want to stock it with larger fish ( a Senegal bichir will definitely be added ). Any stocking ideas. i already asked this question but i would appreciate more suggestions

Our pet stores won’t sell more than 2 goldfish to the same person. Guy said it was because of the ammonia produced by their waste, “regular” pet peeps don’t treat the water as they should, fishies die, and the store has to take em back, give new fish and refund $$. So they limit the # of goldies allowed to be sold…. Just an interesting factoid…

How long do they sleep and how often?
Just like we have a day/night cycle, they have it too. Day=active, night=sleeping (if not disturbed). They need it to stay fit and healthy, just like we need it!
