  • TenPoint makes a great crossbow but if you aren’t paying attention you could put your crossbow on the IR list instead of being in the woods. Today we will go thru the operation of several TenPoint models and hopefully keep you from making these common mistakes.

    Great video. I’m expecting a BH360 and it’s good to know failures aren’t completely unheard of, and what NOT to do. I’m used to gun hunting so this is a new world.

    I just went crazy and bought the Tempoint TRX 515 with the Garmin Xero X1i. Wow! What an awesome crossbow!
    I got mine from Wyvern Creations in New Hampshire. They have fantastic package deals and really good customer service.
    The deal i got from them bow, scope, 9 extra bolts 3 of wich has lighted nocks plus the 3 you get with the bow from Tenpoint, a Tenpoint soft case, a pack of broadheads, and a high quality target I got for less from Wyvern Creations than if you order from Tenpoint.
    4,999.99 from Wyvern Creations, and if you get the bow from Tenpoint which was over 5 thousand.

      Wow!! That is a heck of a deal. I just got the TRX 515 in so hopefully I can get out and do a review video on it this week. How do you like it so far?

      @@TrinityWild It's deadly accurate. Especially with the garmin xero scope.
      The design is well thought out, and the railess system seems to make the bolts fly truer. The reverse draw of the 515 sure zings those bolts out there with a lot of force.
      One thing I think they should have thought out a little better is how you store the crank handle for the accuracy Maxx.
      You have to mount in on them top or bottom picatinny rail with holder.
      If you get it you will see what I mean.

      Roger that. I shot one early this year that my rep brought by but I’ve just now got one that I can really go thru. The trigger was sick. I’m excited to see what it will do at distance.

    Pretty good info on Flatline 460. The TenPoint video says 2 cranks back, and then holding the button for the 3rd crank back which gets old. I really love the easier way you present the solution. I run the 460 with the Garmin, which is far from my first crossbow from Horton, known as the Super Sport. Crazy, accurate, and quick with the Garmin. The second shot during sight-in was in the same hole at 50 yards. The overall cost of bowhunting is staggering compared to the 60s and 70s.

      It certainly is. At tis point these things are just rifles with training wheels. I've been showing people that decock method for years so I'm glad Tenpoint finally agrred that my way was the best, lol. Thank you for watching.

    • @SuperDave-pe1zw
      @SuperDave-pe1zw 5 місяців тому

      😅@TrinityWild they're hardly rifles with training wheels... lol. You shoot a rifle it's so fast they don't hear anything until after a bullet has hit them, they hear these loud crossbows go off and can react to the sound and move before the bolt hits them. It's that kind of attitude that all the traditional bow hunter's are against. You know the guys using a compound with a peep and sights and a release with a trigger.... lol.

    • @TrinityWild
      @TrinityWild  5 місяців тому

      Well, it’s an instructional video, I’m certainly not advocating for crossbows. I wish they would go back to the days when you had to prove you had some physical issue that kept you from being able to shoot a bow. However, These Ravin crossbows will shoot a 3” group at 100 yards, thus the “rifle with training wheels” comment. I’ve seen people, as I’m sure you have too, can’t do that with their rifle. Who would shoot at a whitetail at 100 yards with a crossbow? No ethical hunter should ever do that.

      @TrinityWild  7 місяців тому +2

      Mission crossbows are tanks. I have less trouble from them than any other brand. The Sub-1 seems to be a little more accurate than the XR but not quite as fast. Solid is what I would say about the Mission line up.

      @@TrinityWild thank you very much for sharing this information. I really appreciate it lots. I bought a Sub-1 XR in Jan 2021. I've used it for the last three seasons, killed a buck each year with it at 20-30 yards in Missouri and a couple of doe alsol. I've never done any maintenance to it (other than frequently lubing the rail and checking that that nuts & bolts are all tight) but after watching your video I have a strong desire to order a new string for it as soon as possible. Can you possibly make a video on the yearly crossbow maintenance that should be complete late Summer before the hunting season starts? Thanks again!

      Also, I have a good friend that bought a used Tenpoint Seige RS410 this summer. It appeared to be almost brand new. He sighted it in, practiced with it a few times. went on a week long hunt in Nebraska early Nov 2023 and the string exploded and a cam bent while he was attempting to take a shot at a doe. This is how I came across your video. I was trying to see if this was a common issue. Do you have any suggestions or ideas on what might have caused this to happen?

      Buying used firearms and yes bows/crossbows too are a gamble you got one that was someone elses lemon or that someone misused/abused. All it takes is one dryfire and you have some serious repairs on your hands if you didn't wreck the entire thing or get hurt in the process. My bet is this crossbow had been dry fired before or something was wrong with it from the factory and why the original owner sold and got rid of it. If he took it to a local archery shop that had someone that didn't know what they were doing tuning or working on it they could have done something as well. You'll know who is good and who is qualified in your local area. It's not the gun shop that happens to sell a few crossbows that has the young kid that just started working on peoples bow and crossbows either. Anybody that I have ever seen that was any good had at least 20 years experience under their belt before the word got out this or that guy was any good or not. Not to bust any chops but even this guy on this video was doing things I would never do. I wouldn't rest the crossbow on my leg to cock/uncock it. I wouldn't uncock a crossbow anyway and would always use a junk or old arrow to shoot it into the dirt or a backstop to uncock and unload it. He's got his hands and fingers in the danger zone constantly throughout this entire video. You don't put your fingers or hands behind where the string serving stops when the crossbow is fired. When you load a arrow you keep your fingers and hands on the front of it near the tip a inch or so back at all times. If by some chance that crossbow fires or lets go you won't come into contact with the string under load that way.

    • @TrinityWild
      @TrinityWild  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes. 20” bolts are fine. I believe they originally come with a smaller aluminum bolt but those are difficult to find. A 20” bolt with a “half moon” is what you would want.

    Hey buddy, i bought a WR fury 410 dc... It shoots target points 3" groups at 40yds, with the worst trigger ever created !!! But will not shoot a broadhead , megtec, rage crossbowX .... Ive just got some rage hyperdermics crossbows , that i havent tried ? But dang my ole titan shot rages better than feildtip. I think i'll burn it if they wont shoot....I think crossbows that shoot over 375, are just trouble waiting to happen ! I wish i could try different arrows, but i think match 400s , are only option ??? Anybody help ?

    • @TrinityWild
      @TrinityWild  7 місяців тому

      That trigger is pretty bad. At 410 fps definitely stay with a mechanical broadhead. Hard to get a fixed blade to fly true above 350. Try those Center Punch Tenpoint bolts if you are looking for an upgrade, They are money. The G5 Mega Meat has been our most popular mechanical by far this year. They fly great and make a filthy cut. Good luck.
