Wicked Ridge NXT 400: Best X-Bow for the Bucks?

  • Wicked Ridge is the noted Ten Point company's value brand, but basically Wicked Ridge crossbows are Ten Point models--using Ten Point's technology--that are basically just rebranded. In other words, Wicked Ridge crossbows are made by the Ten Point company in its Ohio facility to the standards that have made Ten Point the best all-around crossbow company in the business. JJ has tested most all crossbows on the market, and believes Wicked Ridge's upper-end crossbows (in the $800- $1200 range) are likely the best going for the money. Specifically, the NXT 400 is fast at a tested 400 fps for silly kinetic energy around 145 ft.-lbs., very narrow at 6 inches axle-to-axle so it's easy to carry and hunt with, it's safe, accurate, easy to cock and has all the features that make Ten Point xbows great. But don't take the company's word for it from its spec sheet. Unlike plenty of others out there, JJ's actually been testing crossbows for 20 years; he tests them in a scientific fashion and calls a spade a spade when he finds negatives or disparities. If you are in the market for a new crossbow for the upcoming hunting season, don't buy until you watch this video. And if you don't want to pay over 2K, the Wicked Ridge NXT 400 is likely the way to go.

Great review but I have to disagree with you. 1k is a lot of money for most hunters. When you talk value you need to drop down to 5 and under. Most hunters I see in the public lands of ok are sporting something from walmart like a Killer jnstinct or center point. These bows are fast hard hitting highly accurate deer killing machines. They have great warranties and stand behind their products so if they do have an issue it's fixed quickly. The WR u reviewed is on the lower end of high priced rigs and honestly it's just an amazing bow. The WR INVADER 400 or rampage 360 would have a much much higher claim to the title if your video.

It is a really nice 2nd xbow, the accuracy is far better than Barnett in this range. In NH very few 40 yard+ shots so scope is good enough. Putting an Escalade on a VW frame, is still a VW.

Should I get this or the vipers400? I remember you testing the viper 400 and it only did 364fps but said would do 400fps. Between the two which one would you recommend? I reallly like the ACU slide system on the viper allowing me to stop between cranks without having to worry. Good video. Nice to here an intelligent straight forward review. I’m contemplating a crossbow because of an elbow issue making tough to shoot my compound. So many opinions and options. I can spend a lot of $ if justified but I don’t feel I have to from what I’ve seen. I like Ten Point just from friends having them and what I’ve seen and read. I’ve sort of narrowed it down to this bow the nxt 400 and the rdx 400. I realize the nxt is narrower and the draw is different. But the rdx seemed quieter on the reviews I’ve watched. Which do you recommend and why? Also I read the Wicked Ridge line is made in China and Ten Point in the states? Any input is really appreciated.

I loved archery and bow hunting. Own a gun but never hunted with it always took my bow. Now being young but disabled I just bought a Xbow so I can get back to shooting as I love guns and shooting them but nowhere near as much as a string slinger of some sort.

Hi Jeff, certainly a nice and very fair review video! I've always been a fan of Ten Point, but never owned one. As a wine buff, I frequently buy a vineyards second label and so I'm all in for the value of Wicked Ridge crossbows! However, I know this NXT 400 is impressive and fast, it's still do heavy! As an older hunter, I'm trying to lighten my load, both rifles and crossbows. So, I'm okay with sacrificing some FPS and going with the Wicked Ridge M-370, still the lightest crossbow on the market, and about $250 less than the NXT 400!

You probably just sold one of these for them. Just have to convince the wife, but after almost a decade of not deer hunting, and seeing her reaction when we ate the inner tenderloins from a doe I shot this year, I think it will be a pretty easy sell lol. I am a meat hunter with a strong hope of not getting buck fever again. What can I say, 40 pounds of honey BBQ snack sticks, smoked summer sausage, mississippi roast, LOINS, and 1 hour hunts will spoil a feller. 1500$ roughly, for a huge extended season sounds good when we are eating 10 pounds of game a week.

very close comparison, because it's essentially the same crossbow. 370 vs 400 fps. The NXT is narrower, which is a big deal. But it's made in the same place, by the same people with the same materials. Yes i do think the NXT is better, but it gets complicated if you're talking "for the money" or $300 more... Probably not. Just my opinion. What do you think?

Because there are very few American made optics manufacturers and the ones there are have a starting price of $1k plus making this almost double it’s MSRP. As far as rifle and firearm scopes go optics tech has come a long way and there are some excellent optics coming out of China now. I can’t say the same for cross bow scopes since I don’t own one yet.
