I miss those days of sitting in my bedroom scouring over all the new vinyl albums I used to get. I’m afraid I can only have just memories now, unfortunately. Good job Dave!👏👍 Glad to see you back doing what you do.
I saw them perform in the 60s when I was in my teens. I’m grateful to my parents for driving. S&G introduced Mrs. Robinson during that tour, not the same as the finished version. Unforgettable memory for that young teen who wanted to hear the music directly.
Reminds me of the similar musical setup Richard and Linda Thompson had - one of the best ever songwriters and such an exceptional guitarist with two great harmonising voices. Sadly, broken marriages are harder to fix than broken duos.
Good video. Egos seem to always get in the way. Even with local bands ( at least back in the day ) lots of local musicians get very jealous of fellow band members doing better than theirselves.
Paul Simon has never really stopped exploring new ways to express himself. Constant change. His latest, Seven Psalms (2023), is yet another change of direction.
i can see art's point of view as far as paul's belief that the duo needed to end in 1970. i imagine art's feelings were hurt by "so long, frank lloyd wright"! i love art's 70's albums and paul's records from the last half century...kindness has probably been lacking from both....you're fair in most things i've listened to you talk about.
Don't forget, Paul Simon was married to Princess Leia. Saw Paul Simon in concert as the opener for Bob Dylan! My fav Si and Gar performance is them doing Scarborough Fair with Andy Williams. Paul is on the Mount Rushmore of contemporary American songwriters. Glad they made up!
I sent one of the UA-camrs I subscribed to a message letting him you know are back up and running and he posted a message on his page letting his fans know. It’s Classic Album Review :)
As someone who has all S&G's 60s albums on vinyl, who learned to fingerpick guitar to Old Friends, and has many of Paul's solo albums (none of Art's), I say, "who cares?" We fans got "Still Crazy ..." and "Me and Julio ..." and "Slip Slidin' ..." in the 70s. The whole Graceland album was a vibe. Paul's a good solo singer. Whether they play another show in NY matters not a whit to me. The songs were the product, and Paul was the songwriter.
Welcome back Dave. Good to see you. I wonder where you went. Good about Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon making up. Yes they had lunch together and talked and seem to patch things up. I doubt they’ll ever record any music together or perform together either. Maybe for a charity event that might do a few songs together . But you’ll never see Simon & Garfunkel together again for a concert not even a one off. Paul Simon has lost too much hearing in one of his ears. Art Garfunkel looks more frail now than he did when I saw him in 2019 in concert I have to pick up the new Garfunkel and Garfunkel father and son album. It’s probably pretty good and one of the last things Art Garfunkel will do as a performer. Paul Simon might put out one more record because he’s adapted his hearing loss to where he can hear well enough to perform and record. I was glad to see them in 2004 for the old friends tour they even brought out the Everly Brothers. They toured again in 2008 and I missed them somehow then art lost his voice in 2010. Paul got angry at Garfunkel for saying something not nice in an interview at some point in 2015. Too bad they weren’t able to patch things up back in 2010 or so instead of 2024. If they had patched things up, they might’ve done a few more concerts together when they were younger back 15 or 12 years ago.
@vancedurbin1132 In the two films I saw him in, I thought he did a pretty good job, especially in Catch 22, although I completely agree he was a better singer than he was a thespian!
I'm sorry. Apologize? Poor Paul, he tries his best but can't even begin to comprehend. Life is beautiful and rare. You don't need anything to confirm that. Art is sharing that with you, and with us all. Let it lift you up and take you where nothing can ever hurt you again. Listen to the sound of his voice, listen...
I found Paul Simon's Graceland CD in a thrift store in Texas back in July for only $1. Maybe it's good but it's nothing close to the great Simon and Garfunkel albums of the 70s.
They both were full of ego. They are flawed people. There was a lot going on. Arty's did movies Paul was jealous at the time. There is a ton of blame to share. I love Simmon and Garfunkel if they are Rock then that explains the weirdness of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 😂
Sorry the Restless Dreams doc put out by Simon trashed ART Garfunkel he is the one who should have apologized. Simon is an egomaniac who could never appreciate his partners role in their success.
It takes quite a man to admit he was wrong and make a sincere apology. I've always thought that Simon had a valid point and a right to feel a bit used but he never should have broken up the act. Nothing he did after that rose to the same occasion and I'd say the same for Garfunkel. Massive success has killed so many groups. The soundtrack of the 1960s doesn't exist without S&G. It's good to hear that old friends made up. As far as getting back together--just stop it with that. Fans need to respect these people and be happy with what we have.
Thank you for reporting on this. I've loved S&G since I was 10 years old in 1970. I subscribed immediately.
Harmless Dave. So glad you are back. I missed you.
I loved Paul and Art. I had such a crush on Art back in the day.
I rarely listen to Simon's records but Garfunkel's "Watermark" is in my top 10.
There is that tale from 1975 when John Lennon asked Garfunkel to help him (Lennon) get back with "his Paul"...
Thanks for the update on S & G - - it's great to hear they've reconciled !!
maybe another free concert in Central Park from them since they are reunited???
No duo has come along to replace even Hall and Oates.
Rocky and Bullwinkle
Saw them at their free concert in Central Park back whenever it was. They were awesome and will never forget it.
Welcome back Dave. You've absolutely been missed.

Been collecting vinyl again for 4-5 years - love it! Totally agree, Dave!

Oh, yeah...Dave! Merry Christmas. Welcome back.

Paul has lost his hearing in his left ear. Art has damage to his vocal cords. Such a bummer.
i can see art's point of view as far as paul's belief that the duo needed to end in 1970. i imagine art's feelings were hurt by "so long, frank lloyd wright"! i love art's 70's albums and paul's records from the last half century...kindness has probably been lacking from both....you're fair in most things i've listened to you talk about.
These guys were fighting forever

Paul Simon is almost completely deaf. He's been talking about it for over a year. He plays music but it's extremely d8fficu.

awesome !
Paul does some one-offs but he is essentially retired

Art got busy doing movies. That acting career didn't go far.

Supposedly, the initial rift started when Paul did a solo record under the name of True Taylor, without telling Art. Art held a grudge.

60s. They were going their separate ways in the 70s.
They both were full of ego. They are flawed people. There was a lot going on. Arty's did movies Paul was jealous at the time. There is a ton of blame to share.

Dave. The 21st century musicians that are this good are out there but they are obscure now...
Artie and his son are recording music. Seen and heard it on UA-cam.
