I work for a childcare at my alternative school. (Helps teen moms graduate while also keeping their child in a safe environment)
I might have to make a few of these

Aw that's so awesome!! If you had access to a band saw, this project would be a ton easier! You can also do more simple shapes like a heart or even just a circle or something to make it easier to make more.
I'd love to see how yours turn out if you wanted to share them! Tag me on instagram or twitter!

I find it admirable that you make toys for your child. I hope that he/she will appreciate it when they are older :).

Nicely done! I always wear mechanic's gloves when using my disc sander. They've saved my fingers countless times.

Thanks for sharing your pattern. I just finished and shipped this to a friend having a baby in July. I had some greenish poplar on hand. Made the beads from the center cutout and from a thin piece of walnut. I was so inspired by your design that I used it as a foundation to make a matching sheep rattle from maple and a pony rattle from walnut. I was going to share a picture, but doesn’t seem to be an option. You are awesome and inspirational. Keep going!

oh man, I never thought to actually make wooden toys when my tot was a baby! The wooden inlay was new to me; I had originally thought you may have wood burned it when I saw the thumbnail!

Love this project just wanted to let you know that olive oil is not suggested when finishing wood because the oil can go rancid and rot the wood

I love this! I know so little about woodworking tools so it's great how you detailed why you're using specific tools and what the uses for the tools you're using and what you could have done differently were--makes me get my feet in the right direction if I were ever to invest in my own wood working set up :)
Excited for any more dyi tutorials in the future!
PS: If you're open to suggestions I'd love a tutorial on the types of paint/how and when to paint in the process of woodworked projects! I'm always intimidated for how many types of paint there are and which I should be using and how to finish/protective coat it afterwards haha.

Lol, I don't know! We can't remember if we lent it out or if he just organized the wood working room so hard that it just disappeared, haha. I'm sure we'll figure it out one day... but also that thing was pretty old, so maybe this is a good excuse to get a shiny new one!
      And thank you!!!
