I love how you are using woods and not plastic components. Also the rattle is very adorable!

I have some friends expecting. I may attempt this for them! I've already crocheted one baby blanket for them. Thanks for the great ideas!

You should make some more baby DIY they’re so cute and I’m not expecting a child anytime soon since I’m 17 but these would be so cute for my nephew and nieces

Flax seed oil might also work as a finish that's safe. Great project, I hadn't heard of using food dye before!

Awww... Congratulations!!! That is *ONE LUCKY BABY!* I'm so blessed to be a Nana now, and I KNOW HOW frustrating it is to get NON-STOP advice... bbbuuuttt because you brought up books I'm *ONLY* going to say that there's no such thing as *"too early".* My own Mom was the Asst. to the Head Children's Librarian for the City of Toronto (HOW Lucky was I?), so my very earliest memories are from places & people (Real & Fantasy), times long ago & FAR into the future... SO Many THINGS, I can't begin to list. You're a Magical Woman, with SO MANY talents! God Bless You & YOURS!!! (Oh, and I used real food to dye my kids' toys: beets, kale, blueberries, strawberries, etc. Anything that ruins your kids' clothes makes PERFECT natural dye)

Thanks! I didn't mean I was going to wait for a long time before DIYing a quiet book, I just meant that it's lower priority on my baby DIY to-do list, behind nursery things and newborn onesies and whatnot 😊 but I definitely do want to make one as soon as I'm able to!

Did you have to put some kind of adhesive or did the dowel caps fit perfectly with the dowel by pushing it together?

You could do a mobile. I made one for my nephew since we're in Texas and he's in Canada. (it had cowboys and stuff) and it was fairly easy. It would be even cooler to include some crochet or something.

I've been wanting to do a mobile, I just need to figure out what kind of theme I want to do... (yeah, we STILL don't have a theme for the nursery! 😅😅😅)

its really pretty but...sorry not sorry, that's a FAIL..if there is the least remote chance that one of those balls can come off, IT WILL and they are a choking hazard, if it can pass through a toilet paper roll then its too small for a anyone under 5...

As someone who doesn't have much experience with babies, as this is going to be my first, I appreciate any constructive criticism when it comes to the projects I'm making for my little one. Unfortunately I don’t think you came at this criticism in a really positive manner, which kind of sucks. “Sorry not sorry” and declaring it a fail, being so sure that one of the end caps WILL fall off, even though they were an extremely tight fit and glued together with wood glue, which is one of the strongest ways to join wood together (really, look up stress tests when it comes to wood glue, the wood breaks before the glue join does, and I highly doubt a baby would be strong enough to pull something like that apart). Like, what would you have done differently, you know? Bigger balls on the ends? A different method to hold the end balls in place? Completely scrapping this design and doing something else? Adding some type of solution to the problem you claim will happen would have made your comment 100 times more useful to me.
This is a rattle design I’ve seen elsewhere online, which is why I was confident in it in the first place.
