We absolutely love when today's younger generation sees the value in making a toy for their children (or nephew) instead of buying some expensive electronic toys. Great job! Looking forward to the other animals you make.
Awesome Kevin. That is what I have had to do in many cases is just use what is available. Sometimes it takes a little longer but it works just the same. 👍
This baby toy is awsome Mitch! the tip in the end with the finisher is great. you can not use any finisher when kids will play with it. Great video my friend. I loved watching this!
Hey Mitch, thanks for this great idea. I tried to download the template but none of the used email addresses seemed to work after submitting the mailchimp form. Would love to get that template. cheers
I saw this Video 2 Years ago and made a rattle, today I built a successful brand of baby toys, I think this has triggered and inspired me, Thanks Brother !
Amazing finish without using a band saw like most☺ Been wanting to get a jigsaw to cut hardwood toys, haven't had much luck with the coping saw so far. Do you have any tips on using a jigsaw properly or which to grab???? I keep hearing jigsaw not good for hardwood🤷♂️
Great looking project. Just wanted to throw a warning out there. If the toy is going to be given to a child, one should make sure to be careful with the oil applied.
That was a very cool video. I will try to make some of these for the woodworking club I am in. We do a toy drive every year. Thanks for the video and for the free template.
Mitch. Love this rattle and want to make one or two for my family. I subscribed and entered my info for a free template download. I have not yet received the link for download. How long does it take to for this to be sent? Thanks again and very nice work
I didn't get it via eMail either, but if you klick on the picture of the rattle with the text "Get your free rattle template", the download of the pdf should start. At least it did for me :)
Hey Luc. I apologize for that not being sent to you. Send me a message via my website or Instagram with your email, and I will get that template to you.
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Love your stuff. We have the same jigsaw-did you use a different blade than what it originally came with? Trying to find the best blade for tight cuts. Also, any advice on what kind of places to find single hardwood boards like that oak?
@@tylersmith9868 you might think the question is crazy and stupid, but honestly our Lowe’s doesn’t carry any “fancy” hardwoods that are baby safe so 🤷🏼♀️
I know this is a year old but my local Home Depot sell small hardwood labeled as "hobby wood" Ive been to 4 around my area and all carry walnut, poplar and oak, but some carry maple and birch as well. A tad pricy but for those of us struggling with small workshop we cant buy huge pieces of wood from local lumber yard due to space🥲 Hope this helps!😬
Hey la Abril. Go to the link and click on the picture that says free template download and it should let you download it. If it doesn't work, contact me through my website and I will send it to you.

Good job. I think I could actually make this with my limited tools. As you said, "make do with what you have."

Congrats man! That is great news. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks.👍
I’m having trouble getting the template to send to me. Is the template still current to where you could send it to me? Thanks
That is so awesome! I’m looking for a dinosaur toy something similar to this. But... it has to be for girls.
1. Great project Mitch. 2. Love that you are doing squats to get on camera. 3. I hate the hole saw... Hate it. Haha. 4. Great work buddy!
Haha thanks man! Gotta get my squats in.😂
My husband used these plans from Wood Prix's plans and he's very satisfied.

How thick is the rattle?
Make a kitty!!
Do you think regular wood from lowes or home depot would work and be safe for this?
Hey Cameron! Yes it would be just fine!
Hmm... disk sander for home manicures.... What could go wrong? Seriously though, this looks like a perfect idea for my friend's newborn. Nice one!
Thank you for a great video. I just found your channel.
Thanks DIY Nurse! I'm glad you found the channel. Welcome!
Such a simple project and yet so satisfying. Nicely done.

Expecting my first grandchild, will definitely be making one. Thank You

Nice Project Mitch! Just curious, do you think mineral oil thats used for cutting boards would work just as good?
Thanks! Yeah I think it would be just fine.
Revived Builds Check out Walrus Oil. It’s an all natural product too, they make a paste thats easy to apply as well.
Great looking project. Just wanted to throw a warning out there. If the toy is going to be given to a child, one should make sure to be careful with the oil applied.
Awww so cute
Nice job and thank you for the template
Thanks Ray P and you're welcome!
I’m trying this soon. Wouldn’t it help to have the dowel be perpendicular to the wood grain of the body? I think that may add some strength.
You did a wonderful job...looks so cute..
Thank you very much Nancy!
Thanks for this video! I definitely have to make such a toy for my son who will be born in April.
Can you really do sharp turns with that kind of jigsaw?
Awesome! I am definitely going to be making one of these!
Very cool! Thanks Amber. 👍
Hello I liked your video . I would like to make a rattle . I would like a copy of. Your pattern thank you William dell
Hi. Its a good work. Can you write the name and model of the saw which you started to use in 1:35 ??
Awesome video! I entered my e-mail in the link to the template but have not received anything. Is the template still available?
Nice video. Solvent may not be best choice of word for your finish.
My dad made us a wooden train set, wood dinosaurs, ducks and of all the toys we got as kids those are really the only ones I can remember. ❤
Great work! How much time did you spend for it?
What is the thickness of the wood your using please
That was a very cool video. I will try to make some of these for the woodworking club I am in. We do a toy drive every year. Thanks for the video and for the free template.
Hi Mitch, great build! Will make one for my newborn son!!
I really enjoy plans from woodprix.
👏👏👏👋👋👋
Love it. Im going to try making this for my baby coming soon
Walnut can be toxic, like the idea though.
Woodprix plans are amazing!
Poly should be fine after it off-gasses
Where to buy the templates to make wooden toys
Beautiful work mate! Thank you!

Vielen Dank für das Video , echt super 😊
Awesome bro

How thick is the wood you use?
Is there a way to avoid using glue? How could I fix the pin in place?
The dowel fits snug in the hole without glue, so you might be ok if you make the hole a little deeper and not use glue.
what thickness dowel did you use? and what size drill bit to drill the holes for it?
The dowel and holes were 1/4".
I wasn’t able to download the template. I tried on my iPad so that may be the problem.
Oh no! That may be the issue. If you dont figure it out, send me an email or Instagram DM and I will get it to you.
Could you make a camera rattle
I am sure it can be done. That is a great idea!
@@MadebyMitch Do you sale them?
No I don't currently sell them. There are a lot of different designs on Etsy though.
Beautiful, love it !!!!!
thank you

This is amazing!
Thank you so much!
Absolutely adorable! And of course, young kids should learn early on that hippos are safe to touch and will never harm them 😁
Talking about non-toxic oils but using glue?..
not every glue is toxic
