@40:25 there was a tribe called the Atakapa in the swamps of Louisiana that didnt know how to fish or farm and ALL they ate was people. Most of the other tribes became friends with the french for wiping those guys out
Damn, glad we were way over on the west coast then.
lol obviously they ate normal food too. but ya they did eat their enemies and their name basically translates to "man eaters" haha
That's not true at all. They did eat people, but not because they couldn't fish or hunt. They did it during times of war against their neighbors who gave them the name "man eater."

The captions are hilarious. "Execute onions"😂
Hilarious if you aren't ESL or deaf. Completely useless and infuriating if you don't understand American English fluently.
The book Shane is talking about is Empire of the Summer Moon (he said it at least twice). He also references Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy (who wrote The Road and No Country For Old Men) and mentions that he originally thought it was exaggerated until he read more about the subject.
Love this compilation! I’m from the Osage Nation Reservation in Oklahoma. One of the my tribe’s famous battle was called the BATTLE of CUTTHROAT GAP. Osage from the Three Forks area hunted bison in the Kiowa domain. Coveting Kiowa horses, one Osage party trailed A'date's band south from the Washita to the headwaters of Otter Creek. There they attacked and indiscriminately slew. Some Kiowa were decapitated, and their heads were placed in brass buckets. The Kiowa calender designated the tragedy as "summer that they cut off their heads." The Osage suffered no casualties and captured prisoners, horses, and the sacred tai-me that the Kiowa used to conduct their sun dance.
Oh, you're from the whites of the natives. Good job, Ms moneybags

Scalping was sometimes funny before money was involved. Your tribe lock = your uniform. If you permanently remove the uniform of an enemy warrior, but leave them alive, then they are now a disgraced warrior. Probably exiled by their own tribe. Now unable to wear the tribe lock of another tribe to join them.
My new favourite unofficial podcast
I knew a guy once who bit another dudes thumb off. 😂
So was he Comanche??
The tribes of upper New England had warred with each other so long that they took captives and converted them to members of their tribe who had died in war with the same names and roles of the person they were to replace. This was so common that they attempted this when Europeans showed up they did it to them as well. Several culturally insensitive Europeans took these roles long enough to smash their captors heads in at night before fleeing. One exception to this was the Mandan tribe (commonly confused with mohawks) who tattooed their faces and bodies so that they could not surrender and so earned a reputation as fierce warriors who had to fight to the death in war.
I love the compilation videos your making keep it up
Thanks, will do!
34:14 Kills me😭 The distefano Gillis combo is hilarious. Add the shaman and it’s perfect
They should make a history podcast, that would be sick. Just whatever shane is into at the moment
Swinging on a Native at a casino 🤣
Comanche invested heavily into the cavalry tree and developed the meta beyond what was thought possible at the time
Bro bow and arrow on horseback was the premium for a long time in human history. It wasnt until they developed the musket where they started getting fucked with their gay arrows. But it was still lopsided because youd shoot the indian coming to scalp you from far away but then they get close and your stuck ram rodding your bitch stick mashing the ball down for another shot.
Make more videos! I’ve listened to all of them and you guys are awesome!
A real indian saved me in Oklahoma...i was trapped in red clay in the middle of nowhere for days...he pulled me out in his monster truck

Comparing comanches to mad max raiders is fucking apt and hilarious.
The haircuts was rough
There's evidence they had horses prior to Spanish introduction (you think Spaniards taught them to break horses?) Being that horses are native to mongolia and parts of Asia that native Americans originated from, its reasonable to believe they came over the Bering strait With horses. Not just walking
Apparently there's been evidence found of some possibly coming from the south by water too.
The evidence for horses prior to the Spanish just means they got spanish horses from trade with more southern tribes. The Spanish account claims that the Comanche first encountered horses when the Spanish were moving north through the Americas, but there's evidence and oral history that they already had domesticated (European) horses for a few decades. The native "American" horse has zero fossil record past ~10,000 years ago and there has never been evidence for domestication of these horses. The horses the Comanche (and eventually other tribes) had were definitely European and we have the dna lineage to prove it. There are also zero pictographs or petroglyphs depicting horses earlier than 1600 or so.
The earliest signs of domestication of horses is about 6000 years ago when the Americas were already chock full of native tribes.

The perfect podcast idea... 2 comedians listen to an audiobook for a week and agree not to talk about it until the end of the week podcast. Both talk about and rundown the book in a comedic edutainment type of way. This is a genius idea and Shane is good at it.
Joe Rogan believes anything anyone says
"It's 1492, why are you still making underwear out of leaves?"
Hell ya dude
Three hundred years from now they will not believe that people were forced to wake up and work even if they couldn't get enough sleep. Kids forced to wake up early and go to school.
“Cyborg Americans too lazy to have coitus, more at 2 in the afternoon.”

First of all, heyoka is a Sioux tradition, the Comanche are a lot different, like a miniature version of the Sioux, but the Sioux have more art and other aspects of life other than war

This is interesting, hearing the stories that are told here. I'm a Salish (Pacific Northwest) man, and the thing that I want to share is the written word has its limitations. The narrative from the Colonialists is what's at play here. Indigenous history is passed on orally so we have a long way to go to understanding each other. A reverse engineering of Colonial behavior might be a good place to start. Peace ✌

Found my new favorite UA-cam account
"Short kings", "little guys"...there are dozens of written reports from those times that talk about "native americans" who are 7+ feet tall. The reports tend to show them being closer to 8
Not sure how that applies, they are talking about a specific tribe that were shorter people, not sure if you missed that part. Also the ones you were referencing were most likely buried together due to being that tall. I see one reference citing one 7ft skeleton buried by itself, and another with three, but they pointed out that was the exception, not the general height for everyone. They also fall in a range of the heights people could be, just like today.
They're doing a lot of generalizations. The nomadic tribes obviously had less permanent structures than the coastal tribes who didn't need to follow game across the midwest. Our ancestors in Ca planted the oak groves, to feed their descendants 7 generations into the future. But we rarely eat acorns anymore 😊
Didn't watch the video AT ALL, huh?
