- Review of the PSTC made by RedOctane in 2003. It is a Sony PlayStation 1 & 2 compatible foot pedal controller.
I restored the Namco Time Crisis pedal in episode 201:
• Light Gun Reviews 201:...
After ordering the MSI Liberator, which is a modern pedal with a crippling latency of six frames, I felt like doing another pedal episode =) I might make one on "music pedal used for light guns" soon^^
nice video ben! been looking for once of these for years
Thank you, Ray! I anticipate the current gaming prize bubble to burst sooner or later, so I expect those to become affordable again, if we wait long enough =)
Thank you again Ben. I've always heard these were great, but I avoided it because of high price. I'm glad I didn't buy one. I've recently had really good results with my guitar hero style drum pedals. I attach it to the ground or desk with
powerful neodymium magnets, which allows use of foot or hand in various positions.
I really like the Rockstar pedals =)
I will show them in the next pedal episode (already shot portions of it :D )
Love the PlayStation socks!
I allocated one pair for just filming to look as good as they possibly can :P
Nice review. Didn't realize you owned a Red Octane pedal. I also didn't realize they were so cheaply made. Interesting how they designed them with dual switches rather than just ensuring that the pedal was thick enough to not warp so much as you stepped on them. It's a hard pedal to find these days and even harder to find decent pics or a video of their internals so awesome job making it! 👍
Thank you very much! =)
I agree^^ Double switch designs are not very elegant at all :S
I should make it a habit to open more stuff :D
It's bizarre Red Octane would make something so cheap feeling, when they were renown for how good their Guitar Hero controllers were.
But could you literally make one of these out of an old ring binder folder?
True, but this was before their Guitar Hero days. And if you think back to their drum Kick Pedal it was overly wabbly & flexible and it's cable was prone to rot. But you are right, they improved a lot over time :)
Rock Band stuff was then done by pdp
I love the idea with the ring binder folder!!! =)
@@Boojakascha A bit like Madcatz in that respect.
@@Larry Do you like their current gear? :D
@@Boojakascha Madcatz? I thought they went bust?
They did 2017, but they returned January 2018 and do PC items now like mice, keyboards, headsets and controllers. Basically think Razer :P
In Switzerland you will find their gear on physical store shelves without any problem =)
Look like they are very hard to find . Thx boojakascha.
I searched for multiple years^^
Always wanted one of these but good to hear I'm probably not missing much. Pretty happy with the 'Pedal switch for Time Crisis' mod by micro
Do you also use a metal made industrial pedal, such as micro did? I love those so much :D They are way better than the PSTC and feel surprisingly arcade-like, considering their small size.
@@Boojakascha Yes, the same orange one! It feels comortable to play with when sitting too. That's good to hear you say they are better :D I will say the size of the PSTC (and the arcade namco pedal) are nice. Btw do you own an Xbox and the light gun games there?
@@VirtuaVillain You are right, the size of those big ones is cool, but as just the Time Crisis pedal is stabilized, pressing the PSTC off center can feel odd^^ Yes! I do own an Xbox and some guns. So far I like the green Logic3 P99X the best :) Love it for the House of the Dead 2&3 :D
@@Boojakascha Nice, I have the madcatz blaster being delivered to me so I can play HotD 3, hoping it might work okay on Silent Scope but won't hold my breath :) I will keep an eye out for the P99X, thank you for that recommendation. I just bought the Predator 2 gun to play Endgame on the PS2 because it doesn't support the industrial modded pedal, I guess the best solution is to wire up a pedal directly to a GunCon45/2 that mimics one of the extra buttons but I think this will be okay for just that one game lol Thank you for all the videos you put out!
Awesome! I have the PS2 version of the Madcatz Blaster and I like it :)
It should work on the Silent Scope collection :D
Well, you can wire up the existing pedal to a TS socket. NO to tip, C to shield. Then you connect the pedal to any light gun with TS socket with a mono cable. If you don't have such a gun you solder a TS socket to your GunCon: Shield to Gnd and tip to the signal high trace of the button you seek to access (usually A). It will make your already awesome pedal universally usable :D
Damn at those prices I’d rather just learn how to make my own. I have always been curious why they weren’t more petals that just plug into the second control port though.
I agree. Well it's quite more complex/pricey to make it that way :D so most companies just soldered a micro switch to a TS socket :D That way the margin is better :P
The holy grail! Haha thank you for telling me how shoddy it was made. Are there any other commercial pedals compatible with the ps1 and or ps2 that you might recommend with the guncon?
Thanks a lot :P
You would best step on a normal PS1 or PS2 controller^^
If you don't mind inserting a TS socket to the GunCon, that would be a great solution, which enables to use any TS connector pedal.
@@Boojakascha thank you! Would say stepping on the controller is more responsive than a ddr pad?
Both isn't tremendously tactile, right? I have seen people using the DDR pad on light guns and liking it. But personally I would prefer stepping a controller I think :D
@@Boojakascha I agree. Thanks again for answering, your expertise has already saved me from alot time and money from of trial and error.
@@sppspharmdude You are very welcome, thanks a lot for your time engaging with the channel :D It helps a lot!
Idk where i plug mine mine has like headphone jack to plug
Then it's definitely not an PSRC =)
Get a controller (gun or joypad) with a TS socket, or mod one in yourself!
So, is there a low latency option for customized PC use? The development in this area seems rather snail-phased.
You could solder switches to the PCB of any programmable low latency mouse =)
@@Boojakascha yeah, but to get it ergonomical yet sturdy, is a bit tricky. However any decent developer should do it in the a blink of an eye.
@@Boojakascha Actually, since I personally don't need the arcade-feeling I might be able to use the regular mouse buttons, but with my toes. However I might need to build some sort of ramp, to make it a bit ergonomical.
Also, the cursor moving technology would probably have to be deactivated in order to not interfer with my main mouse, as I will use the foot controller with "normal" games .
Perhaps a keyboard is better.
What is the name of that orange pedal is the latency good ?
Thank you for your interest =)
That's the pedal of the Time Crisis Arcade game. I dedicated it an entire episode: (number 201)
ua-cam.com/video/_UFZBpGE4Ww/v-deo.html
It has no latency (speed of electronic charge moving through copper) because it's analogue.
@@Boojakascha thank you bro
