Gel polish. It's not even a contest. I would never be able to grow out my natural nails without it. It hardly ever chips and I can cure it so it's dried immediately. I can't stand being helpless for hours while my nails dry and then still mess them up because regular polish never seems to fully dry on me.
I recently had a severe allergic reaction to gel polish (I've tried different brands!) so I'm back to lacquer and I'm getting so bugged at how fast it chips! :(

I’ve always been scared to ruin my natural nails removing gel polish, and I love the process of doing my nails, so yeah, nail polish team, no doubt. Also, the fact that it’s so fast to remove is a bonus point! I love to change the color every few days, I couldn’t stick to the same color for 2 weeks
I always use a gel base and top coat and put nail polish on top. So I have the best of both worlds and no staining. I also never remove the gel completely when I do an "infill" as it usually just stays put until it grows out if I prep correctly.
I agree only because I know myself and that I will pick my nails, which I know will ruin the nail. I know it can be removed completely safely but I have a strong tendency to pick if there's even a small chip, so I've had to give up on gel for my own nail safety lol. It's better if I use polish so it can be removed much faster to avoid damage from my own picking
Sadly (gel and acrylics) can cause more than just nail bed damage. I used to love them and though they didn’t really damage my nails. I developed an allergy to them and can no longer use them at all without some severe issues happening. It’s not necessarily due to poor usage. In the past several years my skin has increasingly become more sensitive and am apparently allergic to a variety of things including most otc soaps (I make my own now). So yeh, I’m stuck with regular polish from now on but tbh there’s heaps more available than gels imo.
I love this! I have a pretty large nail polish collection and I've been debating if I want to expand to gels. But since I like to do my nails about once a week, I think I'm gonna keep it old school lol
I was the same way for a long time. But gels definitely have their advantages, especially in times where you can't change colors as often as normal (you're extra busy, or on vacation, etc). I use regular polish and depending on brand/application mine lasts 2-4 weeks easy. Not everyone has strong natural nails so gel to the rescue! Yes, the removal can take longer but it's part of the process which I enjoy. Plus the advantage of gel over polish is when you want to stamp. If you stamp and mess it up or just don't like it, just wipe it off with acetone or alcohol and you won't mess up your color.
I LOVE this!!! My go to lately (for myself not clients since they tend to want trouble free-no/ chipping for at least 3 weeks) is nail polish over buffed hard gel. I only have to fill once every 3 or 4 weeks but I can change my polish look as often as I'd like. It's so true that polish can last weeks over enhancements like acrylic or gel compared to natural nails, especially if I use a long wear polish and top coat like CND Vinylux, Essie or Holo Taco. But any will do!! There is something about the "grip" of regular polish to the nail on buffed gel or acrylic that really makes it last...
I use a product called "Make it Peelable" by Asp. I've been using it for over a year now on natural nails. I do the peeling after doing dishes with my nails in the soapy water to minimize damage, and the stuff is phenomenal! I don't have to soak my nails in acetone, and I've even just soaked for 5 minutes. You can peel dry, but it does damage that way by peeling part of your nail at times. No more damage with dish water.
ive been using nail polish for a year now and my nails can last up to 3 weeks! i redo them every 2 weeks and i love it. but i do wanna learn to do gel for other people but im worried about prices…
What a cute video! I really like it! I'd like to apologize but regular nail Polish is my favorite! It's a lot less expensive and I found ways to make it last longer and I can change it out so much more easily and so much more often!
I've done regular polish my whole life because it's quick, there's a ton of colors and I can change it daily even. Gel polish offers strength and longevity but requires equipment (and as a result the commitment to stick to it to make the cost worth it) and had it done for 2 years. Now I've fallen in love with dip acrylic (liquid/powder ratio scares me, lol). Just one layer or two in a natural shade for strength and then regular polish. I get the strength and durability of the acrylic plus the ability to change my color polish whenever I feel like it. Plus there's no need for equipment, just the time dedicated to use a file monthly to remove it. Win-win all around!
I’m severely allergic to gel polish, by default I have to use regular polish, but there are great quality and colors now then ever before in regular polish
I looked up this video hoping to hop on the gel wagon. But then it occurred to me, I enjoy variety, and matching my nail with my outfits. So I tend to want to switch my nail colour up every few days. Being stuck with one colour for weeks sounds aweful to me, and it would look mismatched with some outfits I may pick. I think I'll stay with nail polish for the sheer fact that I get to indulge in my constant need for variety.
Gel. No question. I’ve been doing gel on my natural nails for a few years. I decided to give my nails a break for a couple of months earlier this year and it was so annoying using regular polish. They chipped sometimes within a day and I didn’t save any time bc I had to sit there letting them dry AND I had to do them every couple of days because I can’t deal with having chips. I love that I can grow my nails long with gel, I love that they never break and I love that my nails always look perfect. I have a drill to assist with removal and have gotten really good at removal and application from practicing. Definitely gel.
gel requires some attention when applying and if not sculpting gotta make sure it's not on too thick but it does wonders protecting the nails from breaking or chipping, plus for me gel lasts... 4-6 weeks minimum on natural nails. I usually get bored before that
I’m 48 and gel polish is new to me. I can say the gel holds up much better. I like to grill foods with charcoal. The real test is when I dig in the charcoal with my bare hands!!! I did this when I was set to remove the gel anyway. The gel polish got scratched on the coating only. -*this test was on acrylic glitter nails done on a form. 👍🏻 I would have to buff gently and reapply topcoat. Regular polish totally gets wrecked from digging in the charcoal bin. LOL the test worked!l and the BBQ pulled pork was amazing!!
I love nail polish because I can change the colour or finish as often as I like quickly and easily. Everytime I've had gel done I've got bored of the colour and wanted it off in a few days lol.
Nail polish can lasts on me for up to 10 days but not when I'm doing any water activity or heavy cleaning around the house. Gel polish is my go to for when I go diving and still wanna finish the dive with nice nails that are ready for my next work day. It also protects the nail from the water weakening them. Still though as someone who's not an expert at filing it off I find that it damages my nails and they are more prone to breakage than when I'm using regular nail polish. Probably all do to me filling it too much as soaking is never just a 10 minutes process for me it takes at least an hour if I even want the base coat gone. Wish one day we will have a product that can just melt it off with no nail damage then it would be the perfect solution for anyone
Regular gel polish shouldn’t require a ton of filing or hours of soaking? You just have to file until the top isn’t shiny which shouldn’t be too hard, then 5-10 min with an acetone soaked cotton ball held on each nail?
Thank you! that was the best information, delivered in the most Artful way, I have ever seen! Explaining the difference between the two in an extremely informative way!
Suzie have you ever tried Dazzle Dry? A couple of women in my nail polish groups have been raving about it. It's pretty pricey so I'm not ready to dive in without a review from a professional.
I love regular black polish for base coats, over a roughed up clear gel base. I don't mind waiting an hour for it to really dry, it's nice and thin and gives a great background for magnetic polishes. I keep my nails covered with a clear coat of gel so they don't peel off and they're always protected. If I want color I use regular polish, it comes off without damaging the gel and I can just fill every two weeks with clear without having to remove everything for a color change. My nails only see the buffer once, then they're covered in gel. If I get a chip I fill it by taking the gel back and filling/filing until it's repaired. I've only had to take off my dominant index finger when the gel was stained through. It was easier to soak it off than try to file through it and refill the stains with clear gel. I love love love having painted nails
I love my gel nails. I have all my own nails and I have my technician coat 7:43 it with acrylic and then she does a gel polish French manicure. It’ll last me 2 1/2 weeks and I absolutely don’t want to go back any other way I don’t have to do anything for 2 1/2 weeks. She does a fill.
Lovely cats. I wore acrylics for a long time and then went to natural. I did both polish and gel. Since I'm so infrequent with getting my nails done, I prefer polish. The gel did last a month on my fingers though. But that gave me results similar to acrylic which I didn't like once removed.
I love this video!!! I would add that there’s way more diversity in regular mail polish (especially among indie and boutique brands) but gel polish is better for nail art.
I'm a mess with polish. I rarely ever did my own nails with polish cause it dries while I'm trying to get it nice looking and smooth. Gel gives me more play time to fix any mistakes.
I hope you do more comparison videos this way... so informative and funny!! "Gels getting a bit snippy" had me rollin! Love you and your videos...tfs!!
Nail polish is great for someone like me who'll want to change it at minimum once or twice per week - I hate seeing that gap from the outgrown nail, and my nails grow fairly quickly! A good quick dry top coat is worth its weight in gold, you really don't have to wait around long with them. Gel beats classic for nail art, though, because you have time to fuss around without worrying about it drying and causing a mess, and you can wipe off a mistake without messing up the layer underneath.
Super fun! For me gel is worth the extra work & equipment (especially now that I have a bit that won't take 3 days to get the glitter off my nails -- literally 3 days!). But I will say that the polish/lacquer you used in the video is gorgeous!!
The holo taco glitter polishes for me last until I get bored of the color and want to change it out. Usually about 2-2.5 weeks. Same with their metallic foil polishes. They are difficult to remove but they last great. Static nails for me usually last about 10-14 days. Which is insane for a creme nail polish (not a gel). They are the only creme polish I use now. That said, I always apply 3 coats of top coat whether I’m using holo taco or static nails polishes. I also always apply polish to a freshly acetone-d natural nail so there aren’t any oils from my nail or from soap or lotion or something to interfere.
Regular polish all the way. I can’t wear anything on my nails at work (medical) so I need to be able to take it off easily. Polish drying time has gotten so much better over the years and a quick dry top coat is a game changer, if I’m painting carefully and cleaning up as I go then I barely need to wait between coats. I usually paint my nails watching tv when I get home from work before a day off and I can have the whole process done in 30-60 mins. I like that it helps me transition from work mode into day of mode ! The risk of allergies is also hella low with regular polish.
I've never been a fan of painting my nails because of the fact that regular nail polish only lasted 2 days before the chips became unsightly. I also only got 2 days if I kept my hands out of water as much as possible. Obviously with gel, I don't have that problem.
You are just so funny. I love both. But recently I am using a gel top coat over normal polish. Also use gel polish to decorate over the normal nail polish. Love the result, and I personally feel it’s less invasive to my natural nail bed. I am not a pro, just a regular nail art lover.
I developed an allergy to gel and I'm so sad about it! Something about my body chemistry prevents regular polish from curing properly so even days after the salon my nails can still be smudged easily :(
Hmmm somethings doesn’t sound right. I believe it’s the polish your using - some brands take a long time. I suggest switching and trying different brands
I've always was scared to use gel polish, because of the UV rays, the removal process & fear of ruining my natural nails. But I managed to try it (my friend did it to me) and now I am hooked on gel. No going back to regular polish. It is so much easier to apply, looks much better & smoother, the fact that I can wear it at least for 2 weeks, saves time, also I am not scared to use my hands, I now it will not cheep.
I've always been interested in trying gel polish but I hate buffing my nails since they're so thin anyways so I stick to regular polish instead. Comes in more glitters too haha
I think about this too and always apply sunscreen all over my hands before using the lamp. There are also UV protecting gloves with cutouts by the nails you can buy on Amazon to wear whenever you use the lamp.
I love gel on fingernails and polish on my toenails. It’s so much easier and faster to do a pedicure on myself or family with polish. My daughter is a nail biter and polish keeps her off them for about a week but gel peels off in a day or two because I’m too scared to do all the buffing and prep on her because she’s only 8 I don’t want to thin her natural nails. There’s definitely pros and cons to both and depending on who I’m working on I decide the best product to use. Love this 💕

LOL the test worked!l and the BBQ pulled pork was amazing!!
I love nail polish because I can change the colour or finish as often as I like quickly and easily. Everytime I've had gel done I've got bored of the colour and wanted it off in a few days lol.
OMG one of your funniest videos. Love it!
I'd like to see that as well
I have not - id better look into it
I love regular black polish for base coats, over a roughed up clear gel base.
Dazzle dry lacquer is my preference! Only five minutes dry time! Lasts 2-3 weeks chip free.
She does a fill.
i love your videos, it makes me feel soooo good. Thank you so much
Lovely cats.
That was alot of fun 😁different... i so look fwd to your videos! Thursday doesn't come around soon enough 🤣 thank you Suzie & Cameraman 💅🙃
This is so cute for a video! Love it! Tilly is sooo pooffy now omg!!!
I really loved the style of this video. Great job as always!
I'm a mess with polish. I rarely ever did my own nails with polish cause it dries while I'm trying to get it nice looking and smooth. Gel gives me more play time to fix any mistakes.
I use lacquer most of the time but gel color for vacations and other situations where I don’t want to worry about removal/touch ups for a while.
Great idea.
I love those lights in the background!
Removal is the only reason I go for polish. I'm thinking of trying Candy Coat Popping Candy. Have you tried it? It's just so pricey!
Suzie, you're so adorable! Another great one! Love your cozy socks!
Cute video! I love your channel!!😄
I hope you do more comparison videos this way... so informative and funny!! "Gels getting a bit snippy" had me rollin! Love you and your videos...tfs!!
This is such a cute video. Love that you showed the pros and cons of both. Right now I’m a polish girl because I like changing it up weekly ❤️❤️❤️
What a cute video Suzie! I love the colour on the hand piece of that e-file too.
Love this video very creative and cute!
I love how you put this together 😂 😂 😂. Had me laughing the place down 😂 😂 😂
Nail polish is great for someone like me who'll want to change it at minimum once or twice per week - I hate seeing that gap from the outgrown nail, and my nails grow fairly quickly! A good quick dry top coat is worth its weight in gold, you really don't have to wait around long with them.
Gel beats classic for nail art, though, because you have time to fuss around without worrying about it drying and causing a mess, and you can wipe off a mistake without messing up the layer underneath.
I love this video such a cute idea! Nice job you too!!
This is a great video!!! So hilarious.. you did a great job!
I love this comparison video. Also love the holo taco
Super fun! For me gel is worth the extra work & equipment (especially now that I have a bit that won't take 3 days to get the glitter off my nails -- literally 3 days!). But I will say that the polish/lacquer you used in the video is gorgeous!!
Great video Susie, loving the gel attitude 😀 xxx
I loved this video so much, it was very entertaining. Tbx as always you're awesome
I bet cameraman had a fun time putting this one together! Well done
I put regular nail polish on top of my enhancements and I love it!
Wow! I love all the work you guys put in to your videos! 💫💫💫
I love the little glimpses of your cats in the background! Always nice to see a surprise bonus kitty
I'm so jealous of your hair!! Just so beautiful 😍
It is so much easier to apply, looks much better & smoother, the fact that I can wear it at least for 2 weeks, saves time, also I am not scared to use my hands, I now it will not cheep.
your background is too mesmerizing those lights look fairy touched please do a room decor i am obsessed with those lights😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Such a fun tutorial 💙
Too cute and informative to boot! 🙂👍
I've always been interested in trying gel polish but I hate buffing my nails since they're so thin anyways so I stick to regular polish instead. Comes in more glitters too haha
You don't really have to, it might stay for shorter period, but you still get the benefits of gel polish
Nail polish Suzie is so cute!
Hilarious! Thanks Suzie had a good laugh 💖💅🏻
Cute way to debut the the differences ... I love them both so it depends on the day, the mood, and of course the color ... 😊
I love my gels so much. The only drawback of it all for me is the lamp. It does freak me out a bit as one of my parents died of cancer in 2019.
I use sun screen on my clients
I think about this too and always apply sunscreen all over my hands before using the lamp. There are also UV protecting gloves with cutouts by the nails you can buy on Amazon to wear whenever you use the lamp.
That was SO CUTE Suzie! Great video! #TeamNailPolish!
This was very educational and entertaining. thanks :)
Love this 💕
Thanks for the two examples
Suzie calling Suzie high maintenance is the most non-Canadian she's ever said 😂😂 love her.
