Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen is seriously one of my favourite games of last gen, and the PC port made it so much more enjoyable to play. You should definitely give it a try.
If Capcom doesn't think it's worth bringing to the rest of the world, I can't say it's worth my time jumping through hoops to play it. I loved Dragon's Dogma, it's really odd that it was marketed as Capcom's attempt at a "western-style" fantasy world, yet Dogma Online isn't available to that audience.
Like Deavonw said this game is just proof the Japanese are still mad about Hiroshima...I have to agree. Why else would you make a western style MMORPG...and not release it in the west.
the only reason Capcom doesn't release in America is mainly because of of legal reasons, just like phantasy star online they probably have a contract with a different company that doesn't let its assets being release.
While I could also see it being legal stuff (dunno what this game is like in that regard but look at all the crossovers pso2 is always doing.) I do think that a sort of nationalism might play at least a small part. I can't speak for Capcom but I can remember times where SEGA JP screwed with western players on pso2. Whatever the reasons it's a shame we apparently won't be seeing this game since it looks pretty cool but going through all the trouble of getting foreign MMOs set up and working is too much of a headache for me.
Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is arguably among the best RPGs ever made, and is up there with stuff such as Morrowind So seeing it become a MMO is pretty damn great Also the scar on your chest is because a dragon stole your heart and turned you into an Arisen. The main game pretty much tells all the story you need to know
I wouldn't call it among the best(pawns as your only party members, static enemy spawns, etc) but it blows casual crap like Skyrim right out of the water.
Haven't played that yet. What I meant were the (mostly f2p) MMORPG titles. Stuff like Perfect World, CABAL/2, Archeage, Revelation Online etc. Those games with cuddly graphics and only hints of a real story.
Maik Bossert I see what you mean. I guess FFXIV can't really fall in that category because of how polished it is. Maybe story wise, I couldn't get into it.
I don’t know. AQWorlds, the popular MMORPG that had over a million players on it, sort of predates both of those and uses that character class system. Who knows. Dragon’s Dogma might’ve came up with it on their own
Imo if you can get your hands on Dragons Dogma online, there is no reason to play the main game because there's not even a decent story to enjoy, but with Online you can fully enjoy the amazing gameplay. Bitterblack isle is amazing, but I doubt it's worth it to play through the story jsut for that alone.
@@zgmf-x19ainfinitejustice28 That's highly subjective. I enjoyed the story of Dragon's Dogma even though I saw it coming a mile away ( _it's not very subtle_ ) and especially the ending. I still enjoy playing it with my character and just killing stuff, or exploring new angles and such. So I definitely think the main game is more than worth playing.
I got it not too long after it came out in the US on the 360, and then got the dlc too. Finally got it now again on the laptop and wish for a second game, not an online mmo, I do shite in those games.
Tom B Exactly it may not have the fame and reputation but DDDA is a much more solid game...literally. Skyrim has its merits but god is it so poorly designed and glitched. Constant freezes, save option greyed out, shop opening times inconsistent and of course late game lag. All on console btw
Yeah Skyrim has better dialogue, characters, overall story and sidequests. But Dragons Dogma has superior combat and classes. I also think vanilla DD looks better than vanilla Skyrim.
Being a person who has put in almost 1000 hours into Dragons Dogma (the original game) it's very nostalgic to see some of the moves in this. I'm glad the 3 base classes seem to have kept the abilities correct.
yeah, that pawn, you have to make them so they compliment your character, for example... in your case, since you're a warrior, "Confused" should've been a priest, it can heal you and do a ton of damage with magic from afar... also it can buff you with enchantments for your weapons and such, just a question, you didn't mention it but have you by chance noticed a day/night cycle 'cause that was a big part of the original RPG gameplay (basically night time = scary and deadly) =)
I dont know when it released on steam the sales were really good and i think steam sales are mostly western sales with the console dominated japanes market in mind
Might be true when you even forgot to mention the other target.. You can get away with a lot in war when you are on the winning side, including dropping two weapons of massdestruction on civilian targets.

Not everyone likes korean character design! It's just too polished to me. And about MMORPGs: they will only become good in like 5, 10, maybe 15 years, when they will be in full VR and quests are randomly generated by AI, so you lose the feeling of just doing the same quests a thousand other people did right before you. As for now, there is not a single MMORPG that could give the immersion to me that any single player RPG can.
Seriously put it on the console. Hell, they're selling Dark Arisen on the PS4. All they have to do is add English subs. It'll be like Crunchyroll. They even have patches. I see easy money...

Yeah, your entire post. Unless you're bad at math you can figure out that the console versions sold more. By June 30, 2012, a month after its release, the game had sold 1.05 million units worldwide. The singleplayer game, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen plays pretty much the same, but you have more classes that are essentially hybrids of the base calasses, the tank in online is a hybrid of the mage and warrior, sortof like a magical paladin. And when it comes to fighting cyclops', try hitting them in the eye.
The MMO is similar in the class make-up. There are 5 additional classes that aren't available at character creation, but you get access to them after you're in-game: Warrior, Sorcerer, Elemental Archer, Seeker, and Alchemist.
actually there is a mystic knight in this game as well, just released a few months ago called the Spirit lancer, basically a lesser version of mystic knight from DD;DA but very versatile regardless
If u perfect block by hitting block on the exact frame of impact, you reflect the damage and knockback back at your attacker, its a pretty important part of playing fighter/ mystic knight

I'm so in love with this video. Never got to play DD Online, but I continue to play DD since the time it came out. Combat is so great! Thank you for this video and your reactions make me so happy. Can't wait for DD2!
This game is a great step forward and brings the feeling of the olden rpgs (when they were good). This is also exactly where new MMOs should be heading.. More towards a dark souls feel then hack n slash. You feel more invested / part of the world in combat and running around. This with all the other modern additions to MMOs would be insane good.
Thanks for making youtube videos. People like you and Fevir are going to impact the MMO genre by sharing your thoughts on the design and mechanics. I am sure of it! Keep going strong!
If we get a Dragon's Dogma reimagining or Dragon's Dogma 2 with the story of an earlier Arisen, with horse riding mechanics, better graphics, and some tweaked mechanics and other things, it'll be a huge hit. It would basically be like Shadow of the Colossus with more of an RPG-action based gameplay in a more fantasy world. DD was such a good game. Capcom could definitely improve some areas and make a sequel much better than the already great original.
Dragon's Dogma is a multiverse. Could honestly just be an alternate reality and it would work just fine. I want a richer open world. More dungeons/villages and reasons to explore. And more classes. Imagine a monk/unarmed class
This game is amazing i played it for over a year before quitting because i couldn't understand a thing (story mostly) and had little to no people to play with(English speaking). If only it released in the wast. One of the best games i played in years. I like it more than monster hunter world.
I wish Dragon's Dogma was more popular. Then those Dark Souls players wouldn't bitch about difficulty... Dark Souls didn't have you fight the GRIM FUCKING REAPER
Don't you just love it? You're in the middle of getting a thorough beating by two wyverns, and suddenly the grim reaper comes in as the late guest to the "Let's rape the player" orgy.
so what? Grim Reaper just has tons of HP, like literally only 2 attacks and his attacks are oneshots. So he is just annoying and runs away when he loses a lot of HP, not really hard. Dark Souls Series is still much harder. I played Dragons Dogma and Dark Souls franchise and I love both, so just my opinion.
For anyone who wondered You will need a vpn to play this game from your American home. Pc and PS4. Create a Capcom Games Online Account, Search for a vpn via Google, download the game (jpn psn store PS4) then download the in game client, after the download and login you can play as long as your vpn stays up. if it fails, use another vpn
Dragon's Dogma the original game is soo awesome. I've bought it 3 times. First on Xbox 360. Then DD Dark Arisen on PS3 then again on the PS4 soo worth it. The unfortunate thing with the game, was it's actually not 100% complete according to it's developer and Capcom wanted to release it asap. There was supposed to be crafting and stuff in it but was cut short due to Capcom's urge to get it out. You definitely should play the single player game.
Its not a remastered you peasants. They made a lazy port. So lazy that they didnt even remove the 30fps cap on ps4 and xbox. First time a game looks exactly the same on every plattform. Well the fps is the only difference between them.
him learning about the climbing on foes mechanic felt good to see everyone needs to know about this so the whole world can rave about it and we can force dragons dogma 2 into existence. or at least stimulate the modding scene
i gotta quote you on 7:36 man not only that, but climbing on a standing big mob upon one of his legs will usually bring him off balance, making him fall. later in the game, some of them will also try to grab you, if you get grabbed, one of your paws, or another dude, can climb up in its arms making him drop you. also, if you climb in its back, after sometime he will jump and try to smash you in the ground. there's so much more about this game that i just want to replay it after this video. YOU NEED TO CHECK THE DARK ARISEN!
Fun tip: EQ2 actually introduced "climbing" into the MMORPG-scape with their Desert of Flames expansion in 2006. I always thought it was kinda bizarre how proud they were of it, as to me it seemed like something that should obviously exist in any 3d game... but apparently they were proud because it had never existed. Also; you'd like the original Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen... There's a lot of shooting dragons out of the sky, climbing on them and stabbing them in the head while they try to fly around and get you off of their back.
I love how as an archer i can use an Oil Arrow to make the enemy more vulnerable to fire, and then swap to a burning arrow to do heavy elemental damage.
I'm honestly surprised I'd never heard of the game until fairly recently. It's probably in the top 3 of my favorite RPGs of all time, but it seems critically unknown for how amazingly fun the game is.
5:27 That wasn't the case last year when i played , you could only select one of the 4 main starting classes and unlock the rest through quests . I'm downloading it now just cause of that , thank you for showing that part !
You can actually swim in both this game and the original. That blood red effect is actually a debuff, causing you to take increased damage from lightning and, I think, ice. When you're hit by any source of water you become drenched, and there's also an affect for oil which increases fire damage.
I would also recommend playing the original game (though I hear Dark Arisen is an updated version, so it should be better) as they're both very similar, at least in terms of mechanics and gameplay. Your first night in that game will be a moment to remember. On my first night I ran into a damn Chimera; an agile enemy in pitch black darkness (I'm talking modded Skyrim levels of darkness, you NEED a light source to see anything that isn't the road ( you can follow the road on the minimap)). That's part of the reason why the magical archer and it's, "flare shot" were my favorite class. In fact, as I recall, your chance of finding really powerful enemies was increased during the night.
DD is one of my most favorite of all time and having an mmo variant for it that retains most if not all the features that made me love the original has me looking for a VPN 😆
I was stupidly stoked when I heard the announcement for this game.... Then I found out that there wasn't going to be a US release... So sad.. I would play the crap out of this if it was released in the west, especially if it was released for PS4 and Xbox One.
The magic of dragon dogma. i love people who discover some of the cool things in it, that you dont traditionally see in other games. I played the regular game and was blown away by the things i could do vs games like skyrim and witcher 3.

Thanks for making youtube videos. People like you and Fevir are going to impact the MMO genre by sharing your thoughts on the design and mechanics. I am sure of it! Keep going strong!
ITS ALIVE! im starting to forget about your channel Peon and you are/were one of my favorite channels in 2016
6:40 Persona 5 :D
Yeah i thought so
Trevor finally joker has change
Looking good Joker!
You'll never see it coming
Well, do I have some good news for you.
This game is amazing i played it for over a year before quitting because i couldn't understand a thing (story mostly) and had little to no people to play with(English speaking). If only it released in the wast. One of the best games i played in years. I like it more than monster hunter world.
your comments during the character creation was hilarious!
I wish Dragon's Dogma was more popular. Then those Dark Souls players wouldn't bitch about difficulty... Dark Souls didn't have you fight the GRIM FUCKING REAPER
Don't you just love it? You're in the middle of getting a thorough beating by two wyverns, and suddenly the grim reaper comes in as the late guest to the "Let's rape the player" orgy.
omg
EXPLOSIVE ARROWS OP SON!!! STUN LOCK HIS ASS TO DEATH!!!
Tony Savage Yeah because that wasn't some artificial difficulty xD
so what? Grim Reaper just has tons of HP, like literally only 2 attacks and his attacks are oneshots. So he is just annoying and runs away when he loses a lot of HP, not really hard. Dark Souls Series is still much harder. I played Dragons Dogma and Dark Souls franchise and I love both, so just my opinion.
weird that this MMO isnt available to the west when it
The first and real Dragons Dogma is awesome. Get it on Steam.
Pretty sure he covered that in the video.
jose guzman people ask even though it is covered in the video. Just disregard this comment.
Typical Dragon's Dogma nub: "OMG I CAN CLIMB ON MONSTERS!"
We all went through that lol.
next thing you try is arc of deliverance cyclops eye and yes... i already one shotted chimera during its leap(main game player)
Please please do a live stream or series like you did for dark souls with dragons dogma
Your videos are awesome, love the humor and editing.
Peon should really really play dragons dogma dark arisen remastered.
Phantom Arcanist theirs a remastered version!?
But the Dark Arisen IS a remastered version
Oh look at that. 1 year later
DARK ARISEN IS A REMASTER???
@@TALE727 yeah its a remastered with the dlc in it.
Its not a remastered you peasants. They made a lazy port. So lazy that they didnt even remove the 30fps cap on ps4 and xbox. First time a game looks exactly the same on every plattform. Well the fps is the only difference between them.
You make the best first impression videos... I'm really enjoying it! Honest, funny and entertaining!
Hey peon, test Dragons Dogma on Steam! You'd be surprised. I just 100% it recently. (Start on hardmode)
Soaked to the bone
Wolves hunt in packs!
Fire works well.
I've learned what to do in this quest.
Quickly! Sever the tail to weaken the beast!
him learning about the climbing on foes mechanic felt good to see
everyone needs to know about this so the whole world can rave about it and we can force dragons dogma 2 into existence. or at least stimulate the modding scene
Lol poor Peon never played Dragon's Dogma :X
This channel is still going? holy shit, I remember when you were like the main man for WoW videos. Glad to see you are still alive m8 keep going.
we need a dragons dogma sequel!
(released for the west too!)
i gotta quote you on 7:36 man
not only that, but climbing on a standing big mob upon one of his legs will usually bring him off balance, making him fall.
later in the game, some of them will also try to grab you, if you get grabbed, one of your paws, or another dude, can climb up in its arms making him drop you. also, if you climb in its back, after sometime he will jump and try to smash you in the ground. there's so much more about this game that i just want to replay it after this video. YOU NEED TO CHECK THE DARK ARISEN!
They really fuckin need to release this internationally
Fun tip: EQ2 actually introduced "climbing" into the MMORPG-scape with their Desert of Flames expansion in 2006.
I always thought it was kinda bizarre how proud they were of it, as to me it seemed like something that should obviously exist in any 3d game... but apparently they were proud because it had never existed.
Also; you'd like the original Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen... There's a lot of shooting dragons out of the sky, climbing on them and stabbing them in the head while they try to fly around and get you off of their back.
THIS GAME HAD PERSONA CROSSOVERS???? 6:41
I love how as an archer i can use an Oil Arrow to make the enemy more vulnerable to fire, and then swap to a burning arrow to do heavy elemental damage.
You never played Dragon's Dogma?
YOU NEVER PLAYED DRAGON'S DOGMA!?
You have to go buy the game on steam right now and go throught it.
I'm a simple man, I see a spider in a LazyPeon video, I hit like.
I don't understand why capcom doesn't want our money.
Still waiting for this to release in NA/EU... Best RPG mechanics I've seen.
This looks pretty bad ass! I wanna play :D
DD is one of my most favorite of all time and having an mmo variant for it that retains most if not all the features that made me love the original has me looking for a VPN 😆
Hi Peon, will you make more BDO content? sence the new class Dark Knight released today?
Digging the monuments t-shirt, my dude!!!
looks like Dark Souls the MMO, which I would like!
Yeah, it kinda feels like it :D
yeah yeah everything is dark souls
i requested this one many times im glad you actually did it.
That moment when you see a Peon's notification and you screech a little :D
Thanks for the setup guide!
damn even with vpn, only getting .5mb download speed :/ really hoping it comes to the west :C
I dread every time the patch came out. It was like 15 hrs update every time.
theres a way to download with torrent on reddit somewhere. so much quicker and easier. although there was a patch last night so translation doesnt work.
download in google drive or megasync

Absolutely amazing video as all ways Mr. Craig! I love your videos :) Have a nice day, Greetings from Denmark!
This game looks fantastic, I wish it wasn't japanese
Today I woke up like, "OMG, is LazyPeon still uploading?!?!?" idk why.. It's weird... so went to YT to check... Boy this feeling that one of your old time favorite youtuber is still uploading... IT feels so great!! And I fell in love with your content again.. Don't stop! Please! You really are one of the best!!! You have made my days brighter, a lot! Thanks!!!
🪦 to bad it shut down
I was a little worried that you'd miss the climbing on monsters combat, but so happy you did it. I had the same reaction when I found out. It's fucking awesome. You should check out Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen dude, its real fun.
"I wonder how long it took the dragon to learn Japanese" lol
dafreakto
I wonder at Skyrim why Dragon BONE understood the Dragon language from the middle of the story.
I laughed at that time. WTF lol
Thanks for the video.... Took some time to download and set up the game, but finally done :)
RIP DDO
Thanks for another great vid Craig.. Just wondering if your still thinking about merchandise route... Are we in for another play through video soon? Keep up the great work man.. Always look forward to your videos each week.
Make your pawn a healer
You should try the original, well, the expanded original game. Dragons Dogma, Dark Arisen.
You're created characters actually act in the cut scenes, and they actually look good.
Also checkout the start screen of the original Dragons Dogma
it's nice to see you actually having fun with a game for once!
I know it's not something you normally do but I'd thoroughly enjoy seeing you do a let's play of Dragon's Dogma: The Dark Arisen.
is it still worth playing on 2019 ? BIG YES, this is the best mmo i've played for AGES. get 3 friends to play it with you, you wont regret it i promise, english patch is still improving, last big update wath April 2019, shit tons of quests to go, biggest monster ever, climb the f out of them all and feel satisfied as hell when they go down, masterpiece.
Really great video and review. The flow, commentary, and balanced critique was excellent. Thanks for this!
I got to level 80 on the 360 and so far I'm level 66 on the remastered. I still play this game often to this day, it's so sick!
Attacking weaknesses increases damage dealt. Like attacking the cyclops in the eye, or using a magical element it's weak against.
Glad you found DD, played the PS3 version and it was a blast !
loved both dragon dogma games. glass cannon warrior was my go to class.
When he got really excited about climbing the monster, that was my reaction the first time I played DD on PS3
