It's hard to describe just how upsetting the Valiant situation is for those of us who were hardcore Valiant fans. The sheer maliciousness of the org whose team I was loyal to is hard to stomach, for one. For another, I'm invested in OWL as a personal hobby and as something that brings me joy, stimulation, engagement and something to look forward to during a time when most of us have very little to look forward to. Destroying the team that I was by far and away most invested in goes some way towards destroying this whole hobby for me.
Go support kai(ksp) at reign? Pick a new team? As a fuel fan I feel you, I've had to root for a new team every year.

It is partially on OWL to write rules that prevent owners from doing things like this. You can't just hope large organizations will be kind to their employees.

It is extremely naive to not blame OWL at least in part for Valiant abusing the new contract rulings. We live in a world where not only has a team done it already to at least a small degree (Washington with picking up Decay) but also where corporations constantly do what's best for their wallets ignoring the impact on individuals. To think OWL is a mythical land of moral substance and not primarily about profits is just foolish.

I don't think that the OWL is to blame, but I do believe they have a responsibility to investigate this situation and discipline IGC accordingly if they find that there was shady stuff going on like waiting for the absolute last min to apply for visa's on purpose so they could drop their entire NA roster. Also what Bren said @ 49:30 Idk why it's that surprising a team bent the rules to suit them, look at Wash Justice last post-season hiring Decay to fill a spot they already had players for bending the whole 2wk contract rule which was meant for teams who had visa issues and couldn't have their regular player in that position go to KR... Idk why this is even a surprise, esports is becoming a massive business and all the scummy people from big business who don't really care about esports at all come along with that
I'm a Dallas fan and the Decay thing doesn't even compare to this. I don't think blizzard expected a team to completely screw over all personnel. Washington made playoffs entertaining and the 2 teams that deserved to go to Korea, still got to go. This has made the next year unnecessarily hard for 15 people at least and could potentially impact other teams.
@@dirtyjesus9293 I know it's nothing in comparison to how egregious this Valiant situation is, just using it as an example when an org/team bent/abused the rules in a way that wasn't anticipated by OWL. My point was that OWL should make the wording of their rules tighter so abuses like this don't happen in the future because clearly they can't trust the orgs/teams/owners to do use the rules in the way they were designed for. That, or punish IGC harshly so teams don't try to pull this BS again. I think OWL has a responsibility to the players and fans to at least take a look into this and punish the org with fines or whatever they deem fit if they find they have abused the rules (which it seems pretty clearly that they did). Players quit jobs and college/university/education for opportunities like this, it's a completely shit situation that IGC made for them. A move to China must've been planned for MONTHS in advance, this wasn't a small decision made last minute. It seems like they purposely waited until the last moment they could to even apply for visas so they could use that as an excuse. It's completely unacceptable, and I think although OWL isn't responsible for this situation IGC created, I think they do have a responsibility to the players and fans to investigate IGCs conduct
This is why owl needs a players union.
I would call upon Shock, Dragons, Fusion, and maybe Fuel to start a player union. What happened with the Valiant is unacceptable. I know there was talks that it wasn't OWL's fault, that they couldn't have foreseen a team doing this. I disagree, but if OWL takes any action to rectify their mistake then I'd be happy. Until then OWL totally failed, and a player union is inevitable.

On Jake joining Houston again, I think he has 2 great coaches to learn from in Harsha and Junkbuk, I think he'll be there for inspiration and guidance for players if they seem lost. He will also play some games as well and coordinate players inside the game a lot. His leadership ability is probably only 2nd to SBB by a lot of people's few

To make matters worse they dont seem to be making a decent Chinese roster either with whats out there.
