Dirty Funk Rock Bass Grooves (Lobster Claw Style)

- Funky good times on my Cortex bass with some fun grooves and melodies with lobster claw plucking, heavy fingerstyle, chords, staccato popping and time & tempo changes, the whole shebang! This video is all about happy accidents, when the plucking hand is locked in & grooving hard, the freestyle slides and soloing will mostly fall in place, when you stop fearing mistakes they become opportunities! Love digging in for that growl with a fresh set of Ernie Balls, with the Nordstrand Dual Coils and a Glockenklang preamp this bass has a nice fierce attack for that oldschool rock sound. Surely was a lot of fun writing and recording this, I’ll release my recent work soon on the digital and streaming platforms, thanks for listening!
In these times of shorts and overly edited music and videos, realtime raw performance is often overlooked. It takes weeks to write, practice and record these videos in one take, there is no post processing on the audio, just volume leveling and pedal compression, this bass sounds amazing so I leave it untouched. I love setting the bar high and work hard to nail these compositions on cam, been grinding for 3 weeks on this one :) First I write the grooves on bass, then I write and record the drums, then I keep jamming on it while forming the final version, to finally shoot the video, think this was the 12th take after many halfway flaws haha, but I made it!
I’m playing my Cortex bass, Napoleon Deluxe model, made by excellent luthier Paul Lairat and Pierre Camilleri. it’s got a flamed maple fingerboard, roasted chocolate maple neck, mahogany body and walnut top. I used a Rodenberg 707 booster and a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor, the signal was recorded straight into my Focusrite pro 24 audio interface into Cubase, drums were made with Korg midi pads and Addictive Drums, mastering was done in Ozone 4. Working on lots more, thanks for watching!

That Lobster claw style is absolute madness!
Remco doesn’t know it yet, but this track is actually named “Running with my pants on fire while eating a cool icecream cone” which is exactly what you will look like dancing to this groove. ✌️

I'm a big fan of the lobster claw style, I find it feels more natural for me that the traditional slap/pop and like the unique sound it produces. Did Remco invent this? He's definitely the master of it. Dude cooks some mean shellfish

@1:50 Sounds so much like a Geddy Lee kind of riff and would fit right in with a Rush track.

Hey Remco... Just an idea, you should record this track with some dirty distortion 🎸😎🎸 Most fun and excellent as usual 👍
...or just leave it clean! Sounds great! 👍🏼
What's the technique where he popping all the notes and it sounds really muffled but cool and percussive? I love that
Ghost notes..
I can feel his fingers hurting... When he started playing
Why can't I find bass players like this to play my drums to?!?
Remco your fingers are huge

How is he doing that🤔👏👏👏👏
This better be on Spotify soon hehe
U need to do a triple camera setup to go along with the groove man!
Jesus Christ man what band do you play in!? Fancy doing an open mic night in Beverley, East Yorkshire, England?
Top Dog 🐕🐕
F* men! you are like a bass horoscope always describing my month with accuracy!
Wow that is unreal playing. Makes me want to sell my bass. Ha Ha :)

🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Maaaaaaaan. Why don't you upload these without the drums on a second channel or something? I would absolutely LOVE to sample your bass! :D
What is the brand of the bass your using. It looks like the same brand as your fretless. I love the sound and would appreciate it if I found out. Also nice job.
It's a Cortex bass, yes the same brand as the fretless. Amazing basses from Switzerland, built by luthier Paul Lairat. Cheers!
Thats horrifying. I cant look away though
I see "Remco" and "Funk rock", instant click! I just wonder if someone who does NOT have long slender fingers would be able to pull off Remco's stuff?
Remco has done it again. Your stuff is amazing really inspired me to pick up the bass again in a way that only claypool Wooten and Clark have in the past. In the future id like to hear some colabs maybe? a guitar synth or saxophone would be fit great
Псих👍😁, классно!!!
👍👍
Nice job, as always. Is it me, or does that neck have no taper?
Could you possibly recommend me a pedal for piano and Rhodes that makes everything feel funky? I play mostly funk..
