- Funky good times with delay, octaver and a fun new fretless composition! Stretching out and not playing safe here, love exploring all sounds a fretless bass can produce. I’m stepping on my pedals quite a bit in this video, I’m using a Walrus Audio D1 delay, a Boss OC-2 octaver, a Rodenberg 707B booster, an Ebs Unichorus, and a Darklass Hyper Luminal compressor. Delay is so interesting on fretless, it launches me into the cosmos for sure :) I always have just one single repeat dialed in, rhythmic and melodic interplay with the previous note can lead to all kinds of great harmonies, triplets and such, it’s all about imagination!
I’m playing my fretless Cortex bass, strung up with Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings. The pickup is a Nordstrand Dual Coil with 2-band Glockenklang preamp, the ramp is made of the spalted maple of the top wood. It’s got a flamed maple fingerboard, a chocolate maple neck, and walnut body.
This video is shot real-time in one take, recorded with the DI of my Eich T-1000 amp straight into a Focusrite audio interface. I recorded and edited the drums in Cubase with Addictive Drums before shooting the final take, then added some fills and cymbals and mixed it with mainly volume riding, no plugins or digital post processing. This mix will soon be available on the audio streaming services as well. Shirts and vinyl for Trill Seekers (Feat. The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown) dropping in the near future, new playthrough and breakdown in the works. Thanks for watching!

Haha sometimes i can't tell if your skills make me want to quit or practice bass more.
Both!
Same here!! Just thought, I might get there someday and my left hand said, "The HELL you say!!"
music is much more about what than how. here we see a great musician first of all.
Remco, along with Joe Dart, Cliff Burton, Louis Johnson, Lemmy Kilmister, Geddy Lee, Dr Funk, Victor Wooten, Paul Del Bello, Danny Sapko, etc, all give me a passion for properly playing bass guitars.
My favourite youtube bass player and it's not even close
As allways, a great piece Remco. Nice compositión, very well played, tasty choice of effects. Thanks for give us your art.
even the groove its self didn't want you to stop
Love that thumb technique, I much prefer it to the dance slap style. And the sound is incredible. I use Fender fretless but would love one of those Cortex. Then at least I could look similar. You are unique. Dont stop.
Thanks for funking my day up, much love 👍
EXCELENTE TRABAJO
MUCHAS GRACIAS
UN FUERTE ABRAZO DESDE SANTIAGO DE CHILE
Nice Groove ! Nice Beard !
So good. You come up with my favourite bass lines.
Very nice very very cool. Play this a few times when I was driving to work.
So damn good.
I would pay to see you play; probably the best compliment I could give you.
Bravo👍
Thats some bad ass funk. I love it.🥁😎🥁
APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE and well!…APPLAUSE! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💯🔥👍🏽

that palm mute at 30s is sound amazing
Remco motivates me to keep Jamming. You're style is one of a kind. Remco style.

Awesome composition as always Remco, and I have to agree with Tachy.. love the new look with beard and mustache, hope the dreads are tied back.
Thanks! The dreads are gone :)
Woah big changes!!
Glad to hear a new vid!
music makes me feel high when i’m sober
You really are the best bassist ever.....
ultimate as usual👍😀
Whoa! This is really nice!
God just straight heat per usual 😫
Amazing love making with the bass
That's some groovy stuff!
This is some really interesting playing. Syncopation is crazy bro !. You have a unique style of fills and timing, chords too ?. it's pretty cool.
Makes me wonder what I would sound like, if I stopped playing other people's songs, I might sound totally different, this is boldly unique and inspiring.
You are an inspiration!
You, Bruford, Dimeola, luc Ponty, and Corea (RIP) would be outrageous! Then have 2 special guest stars, Clarke and Wooten. That would be a Royal Night Artistry!
Great as Always!
Mick Karn in my mind!
Killer Groove let my bass fingers tapp the beat.
( feel like a beginner,now)
Thanks
Absolutely phenomenal. 💯
Sounds killer man!
You sound phenomenal.
Some great tones bought out in the chord work. Great stuff mate.
God of BASS
Dig your grooves everytime. Love it.
Você é um fenômeno, cara. Parabéns!!!
Killer as always. Suppose with the success of this channel we might not ever know or see if it DID happen... but I'd rather hear what this guy can do composing with a full band.
Siiiiiiiiiiiiiií!!!
Thanks! As much as I love shooting these videos that's also what I think and what I'm mostly doing now. I just released a full band version of one of my solo pieces, you can check it here on youtube: ua-cam.com/video/tjdukwucCic/v-deo.html or listen on any streaming platform. We're recording more studio versions, 2nd single will be out in a few weeks, vinyl coming soon. I'll be releasing previous full band material on the streaming platforms soon as well so it'll be available digitally, was already working on it. Cheers!
@@RemcosGrooveLab oh man, sign me up for that vinyl when it drops!
@@RemcosGrooveLab , That was great , a little busy but a good start. It was missing a strong rhythm guitar player , love the horns, they seemed to play over you the base line . You know the original Chicago Transit Authority were masters at the funk with a horn section . But all and all I love that groove and it was a good start! Keep going !
@@RemcosGrooveLab YES! THAT'S what I'm talking about. More of that pls.
Damn, sounds like bass, guitar and sitar at once, incredibly played ❤
Damn you’re killing it bro!
Very coooool
you play very well. 🤩
Just rocking!! This part, and of course the end, was my favorite section 1:18 would make a killer chorus!🤘🤘🤘
Amazing! This is definitely one of the best clips from my favorite bassist!
I heard that George Harrison sitar lick and te Jim I Hendrix lick and the the Stanley Clarke harmonics ringing! Just phenomenally beautiful!
Very Hip Remco! Your change at the 2:06 mark totally reminds me (and I can't put my finger on it) of a song or melody line from my past that I use to dig on. As always, job well done Sir!
nice grooves! I dig Trill Seekers and love that Cody Wright is in on it, too!
EPIC!!!
mix of old stuff but hot stuff it is
I like to think this is where Jaco would be if he was still alive. ❤
Always awesome!
Super!
Действительно космическая музыка
Well . That's just made me wanna buy a fretless and lock myself in my shed for a couple of years 😂 amazing stuff
That’s a pretty cool looking guitar. I also love your solos.
Awesome sounds - as allways.
Nice beard tho! 👀
AmAzinG PLaYeR!!! BLowN aWaY!!!
That's some very funky shit right there! 👏👏👏
Galactic af
Excellent! Getting better and better! Can you sing and play? You don't need that drum machine.
Es increíble ... Enséñame
Brilliant Fretless Bass Playing dude. About as good as it gets & a sick bassline. SUBSCRIDE right away! Had to be done.🤯

Damnnnnn!!
your old men , wyth barba! kljaka
Man!!
🤯💯
I'll stick with twinkle twinkle little star if you don't mind.
🤘🏽🤯🤘🏽
A couple questions on the maple fretless...
1. is it coated/finished in some way?
2. it sounds like you're running roundwounds, is there any more noticeable wear than on an ebony or rosewood fretless?
Great stuff mate...no dreadlocks??
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
cool fancy pants
How do you like the Darkglass compressor? Pick up with that ramp looks sweet.
Wow, that's just amazing. Are there lessons available where the technique of the picking hand is explained?
Thanks! Here's a short tutorial video I made on the basics of the technique: ua-cam.com/video/8-PFaIS5beY/v-deo.html
@@RemcosGrooveLab Thanks so much for this link!!!
Remco should be doing the music for Rick and Morty!
Красиво
Remco!!! George Clinton, George Duke Herbie Hancock needed you! Let Stevie Wonder hear it and I bet he call you into the studio!
I saw your face for the first time in a while.
Hi Renco, i love both of your albums and hear everyvideo you upload. I play bass myself and i´ve never saw somethin like your technic, specilly your right hand. Its something you came by yourself? It's has a name? I would love to hear from you about. Thanks, Keep playing!
Thanks for listening! My right hand technique came to me naturally, I started learning to play bass before UA-cam and such, so I didn’t look much at others and developed this style. It got dubbed “Lobster Claw” and that kinda stuck, seems a good name. When people started telling me I was playing with my thumb a lot, I realized I might be onto something and went further looking at all the possibilities. I’m working on a full course on my techniques, hope to finally get something out later this year. Cheers
@@RemcosGrooveLab Looking forward to the course.Every time I see one of your excellent vids I cannot help saying to myself:"I hope he gives lessons...."
You don't ever use a capo on that thing? I use one on mine, but I'm not rocking the fretless, yet.
What happened to the dread locks?
Please stay in the beard era
Remco, as someone who plays with a fairly aggressive attack, does your fretboard get damaged by roundwounds? Do you have to level the fretboard often? I want to buy my first fretless and I'm scared that I might damage the fretboard with roundwounds, but it seems unlikely.
My fretless basses have an epoxy or superglue coating on the fingerboard to prevent wear from the roundwounds, once applied it's good for many years, I only once had to level and re-apply on my old fretless fender (the white one in my vids). There are fretless basses in the market with standard coating, most builders offer it as an option, so if you wanna go roundwound I'd suggest looking into that. Harder woods like ebony could work without though, with some of my basses I also started without and later applied it after a year or so of playing, no problem. Hope this can give you some pointers, best of luck and have fun!
@@RemcosGrooveLab Man, this answers everything. The one I'm looking at, Sire V5, has an epoxy coated fretboard, so there's no way for me to wear it out, if you don't! Do you have any tips that will make transferring to fretless easier? I'm playing for a year and a half now. Thank you so much.
@@AlexandarShmex Alright great! It’s all about muscle memory and your ears, the frets mark the exact positions so your hands kind of know the distance between notes already. Playing to open strings for reference can be good as well to see where you’re at. Be patient, intonation takes time so don’t be afraid to explore and have fun, it has no frets for a reason :)
@@RemcosGrooveLab Thanks man, my main motivation with the fretless is to explore and have fun, I also like Mick Karn's style. I also love yours, but I don't see myself attempting it any time soon :)
You cut the locs ?
Yes I did!
Seriously out of control!
First
pinch harmonics with no pick on a fretless instrument is insane
Tabs please !!
great stuff but play some new structures!
Россия вперёд!
Very good bass sound, but have more volume on drums will be more sound better
Funk and Blues just has a totally different rhythm than classical music, you are probably thinking of course it does.
This is probably the least contemplated thing by actual musicians.
Urge overkill, undoubtedly good bass playing, but just too much,as the old saying goes...less is more
Dude your techniques looks like it's created early onslaught of arthritis. Sounds great, but if not corrected you're going to lose the ability to play allot sooner than you can imagine.
Good luck.
Crappy drums😂
