One Take Bluesy Funk Rock Bass Jam

- Here’s a bluesy funk rock jam on my Cortex bass, single take recording on a drum track I made with Addictive Drums in Cubase. I used Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings and 2 pedals, a Rodenberg 707b booster and a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor. This Cortex bass has a chocolate/flamed maple neck and mahogany body with walnut top, loaded with Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups and a Glockenklang preamp. The signal was recorded with the DI from my Eich T-1000 amp straight into my Focusrite interface into Cubase. No digital processing on the audio besides some volume riding and compression/gain at mastering, aiming to keep the mix as transparent as possible.
It takes a lot of time to write, practice and shoot these videos in one take. I choose to perform real-time on camera without edits or tricks, it took 3 weeks a few hours a day to get comfortable enough to shoot this video. These days most UA-cam videos are heavily edited or even mimed cause it’s way easier and takes a fraction of the time, many viewers and listeners don’t seem to understand or even care if it’s real what they’re seeing. I think it’s hilarious and not beneficial to the music community and young, aspiring musicians. Playing level goals become unrealistic and the human touch, the spark and love for music is being replaced by computers and clever video editing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not sour and do understand the world we’re living in right now, I just want to address this topic because I care about music, music is my life, spreading some awareness might be important as we’re moving so rapidly into certain directions. I feel fortunate with an audience that actually understands this and knows what’s up, if you’ve made it reading this far you’re probably just glad to see this confirmed, if you’re new to this just remember to not believe everything and free your mind. I take my audience seriously, that’s why I go deep for every piece. Quality over quantity, screw this rat race, I do it from the heart. Thanks a lot for watching, listening and reading, more videos and music releases in the works!

Beautiful playing and I appreciate your message equally. Keepin it real is always what matters to musicians of true integrity.
This is what it was back in the days before digital messed it up.. Take 1 or 2 no overdubs or multiple takes in a take to crop in later.. This is really the groove lab..
Ohhh nooo technology advances as time goes on
@@scottbeckman95Wha?
@@scottbeckman95 And people also use computers and tablets to draw now. We can use both, not shun one or the other
Remco, my white brother, dawg you truly are unique! Every song you write is awesome but this has got to be the coldest piece yet! As a bassist myself having grown up in the sixties I’ve heard them all, and in this tune I literally heard all of the best bassist ever in every genre! There was the great jazz upright licks, there was the pop rock, the funky funk, metal bass, classic rock bass, prog bass, and the more I listened with my eyes closed bro it sounded like I was listening to the legendary School Daze album by Stanley Clarke…I heard Return To Forever, I heard early Getty Lee, I heard Jaco Pastorious, Jack Bruce, Mel Schocher, this is a bass song that every major and amateur group could add to their song playlist and suck in all listeners and cause a standing ovation at the end! This is my new ride jam 😛
My new favorite Bottom End Brother of the bass.
Your bass playing impresses me like no other.. I am in complete awe of your groove… REMCO!!!
Best bass player on UA-cam no doubt
Holy cow, that's simply incredible not only that it's one take but also just the quality and skill in playing this at all. You sound like two people at times! It's incredible! You're absolutely an amazing musician!
Thank you, Remco! No AI stuff here! All natural and lots of talent! Thank you again for your gift!
I really like the description you wrote. I'm glad to see that even a serious pro like yourself struggled for weeks to get a good, honest recording. It also shows just how dedicated and serious one must be to reach such a high skill level.
One of the greatest bass players of all time
What an awesome musician!
✌ From Russia, with love ! 👍
Bro. Marcus Miller is why I picked up the bass a year ago, but YOU make me wanna buy another one. You just became my other idol !
Damn I love your style it's so unhinged and random. Different playstyle from Les, but similar in the fact that you DGAF about mainstream; which allows for more creativity and badassery!
Very nice Remco! You're actually better than Les Claypool!
Remco, youre incredible man i appreciate you keeping it real.
Les would be proud 👏
Remco you are my hero.
It's Finger picken good.
I'm at work, and I've stopped everything to listen to this performance 👏
Well, the new soundtrack to my life for the next few days 😛
Absolutely loved this and your writing. And this song might be one of the rarest and more challenging you've ever posted. AMAZING!
Yes, he nailed it with this one! It’s more than his usual raw funky stuff, it’s almost as if he were saying let me show you what I can really do… this is as smooth as an impromptu bass line can get! Phenomenal tone, perfectly placed ghost notes and tapped notes not overwhelming, just enough fusion and funk, topped with some prog and metal bass, bro this is an extraordinary bass line. Can you imagine the wind section of Chicago or Tower Of Power or War, with Jeff Beck on guitar and Lee Whitnour on harmonica and percussion, with Chic Corea & Herbie Hancock on keyboards?? The greats like Miles Davis and Coltrane upon hearing it would want it on their albums! So you’re right, this song is legendary stuff forreal! I’m a bassist myself and I hear all the layers and coloring in each bar…
Yes, awesome slabs.🤘🏽
Beside the 'Real' music you wonderfully play, Nice description and understanding of the Digital world we steped-in since the begining of this terryfying 21st Century. I mises 'my' 80's (I'm 56...) thanks Remco to open your heart to us. ❤
Smokin’ as usual, Remco.
bass and blues, no doubt.
I love the message. Raw recordings reign supreme. You are the groove master

Dude I absolutely love everything you do, you’re so incredibly talented. Much respect brother, thank you for sharing your gift with the world!
Hey, Hi Remco !! It's great to see another awesome composition, something I wouldn't attempt on my bass, so I'll pick up my guitar and jam with it.. Thanks.
Awesome.
You done did it again. You've put me in the state of indecisiveness; Should I go practice or throw in the towel?
You are truly one of the greatest of the 21st century imo.
Nice.
Awesome as usual Remco ! Thanks for posting, I always look forward for more 👍🏆.
amazing as usual ;)
Well played and beautifully stated. You should post a practice session, warts and all, to show what it takes to be the amazing musician that you are. The world needs to see some reality. Keep it real, Remco.
I would love to hear this on fretless! Those slides would be so greasy!
Never disappointing always a joy
Awesome tune, I really enjoy hearing the thumb techniques you use.
Haven't seen remcos Groove in a while but I still say you're one of the finest bass players out there but I have to put you in your own class and I consider you a classical bass player that jazz not all out rock or Punk or any one of those you are a classical artists
👏👏👏 thanks!!!
Incredible (as always).
Hey mate, I totally agree with your approch on these videos. I try the same thing (not as good as you, by far) but it takes a lot of time and the reward is minimal. So I hear you bro. :) Thanks for your vids anyway.

My right thumb refuses to do that. But I'll keep practing.
It only took you 3 weeks to play this live? This is a minimum 5 years for me. Very nice.

Remco once flicked his finger at some guys ear because that guy was talking smack. His head is still spinning.
fawnkieeeeee
So now you learned it on a fretted bass! Now you have one week to show this on a fretless😅 awesome, Remco!!! And I totally agree with you what you wrote in the description!!! That’s why I always prefer live albums or watching a band live! Thanks for this funky blues 😊

I recorded the drum track with Korg PadKontrol percussion pads and Addictive Drums drum samples in Cubase, then recorded this bass take on it with headphones. Check my latest single if you're interested in hearing me with live drums, link's under the video. Cheers!
