You did a good job of welding those window holes in. I have a 1993 GMC Vandura G20 Conversion van. I may consider taking the window out in the future. I'd rather have metal back there. Thanks for sharing!
Those windows were installed by multiple conversion companies in many G vans over the years. It a generic piece. They always have awful fitment of course. I hate them and like that you are getting rid of them. Its a nice touch. Like the van videos keep em goin bro
so glad i found this video.. gave me hope though ive never welded a thing in my life.. i know how to paint so thats not an issue. van turned out nice. thanks for sharing!
It may look like I had patience, but this video spanned two weeks of van work. I would get frustrated and have to take breaks. The next step is to sound deaden and insulate the walls!
Awesome way to tackle this situation. I’m about to take in the same job. My approach is a bit different though. I was going to weld a bigger piece of sheet metal on the inside of the window hole. Then use another piece of sheet metal so I can lay flush with the vans wall. Hoping it save me a bit of cutting. Let me know what you think.
I thought about doing that also, but my van has those trim lines that I had to make sure to get right. That is the whole reason I opted to go the route that I did.
@@LilBJessup You can call me ignorant but I am just curious why you didn't try to cut the exact size to fit in the space? Because of potential sizing mistakes or? How smooth of a finish did the end project turn out?
@@ESLinsider I could of, but getting the exact placement of the trim lines would of been very hard by myself. One way I thought about doing it originally was to cut it into 3 sections and then weld it up with the trim being the first piece and then the top and bottom.
I'm sorry, I don't know if I understand the question right, but I kind of just winged it. Once I had the panel tacked into place I slowly stitched it back on while cutting the old material out. It isn't perfect, but it isn't bad either.
He means the body lines. The patches look like they came off a junked Chevy. So the body lines were already there. Just cut to fit, tacked her in, and filled the gaps. Super nice job. Tackled it on my 76 to panel it up and you made it much easier than the way I did it 😂
@@LilBJessup I'm removing them completely. The windows are in a panel with no detail in it other than a slight curve. I prepped the surface rusted edge of the body but was thinking maybe cut it 1/2 inch back to thicker metal. I'd like it to be as pretty on the inside as outside but I don't have the skills. if not I'd have to cover the inside with an amp rack or something.
The welding guru has blessed my video with his presence. I am beyond humbled to know that his grace Mitch has noticed my tack welds and has called them pretty. I shall name a feast in your honor kind sir!

Thanks man! Yeah the original cuts looked like they were done with a can opener lol! Currently camping out in the van!

van turned out nice. thanks for sharing!
When I first started watching, I had my doubts but I think it turned out good. Nice job. I was always wondering if this could be done or not.
I had my doubts also, but I am also glad with how it turned out. I had those pieces of sheet metal for awhile before I attempted it!
Like your van bro
Thanks man! It is a unit for sure!
I wish I had your patience. Starting to come together!

Solid work. Giving me ideas.
Thanks, it was a lot of work.
Thanks 4 the help. I have 3 window 2 cover
Glad the video helped out!

thinking of doing this to my 92 toyota previa!
Would you get the sides like I did or get just get a piece of sheet metal?
What tool did you use to pick the side of the junk van?
to pick it? I just used a sawsall and grinder to cut it off a van in a junkyard.
@@LilBJessup and headphones :-)
How did you get the shape of the side. Like the details

What were you using to clean and strip around the window?
A grinder with a flapper wheel, it works great for removing paint.
I need to remove the windows from my Chevy too, not looking forward to messing this up.
It is a tedious task, are you just removing to reseal or are you getting rid of them completely?

I don't have body work skills and mine turned out decent. Just need to take time and do it, you got this! The hardest part is starting.
@@LilBJessup yours turned out good. I warped the last body project I did, I was considering bonding these but it would be visible on the inside.
oooo pretty tacks

Could you just paint over the window? XD
Lol, I mean, that would of accomplished what I wanted to do even faster
