  • Special guest John Williams joins me in a look back and debrief of our experiences at GoldenEye. More than a resort and Ian Fleming's home, this location in Jamaica does something to the visitors and forever leaves them shaken and a bit stirred- but in the best way. Come with us as we travel back and discuss the after-affect and moments that GoldenEye delivered...moments that will stay with us forever.

When David is not running an advertising and marketing company, his hobby is The Bond Experience which is primarily a video blog where he discusses Bond experiences and the people and brands that help to create those experiences...
The mantra of living like Bond, one moment at a time emanates from a concept of experiencing the joy of collecting small moments in life that add up to amazing journeys and stories....whether it's through style, locations, literature, fitness, and the movies themselves the world of Bond is explored through its people and their stories.
Ultimately though, The Bond Experience channel is a celebration of the James Bond franchise and the many people that form a true community. Our core mission is to create a strong connection in the Bond community amongst all the fans, regardless of interest or demographic.

Nice one. Didnt hve time to see the whole Thing but maybe later this evening.
Btw David I have a suggestion.
Would it be possible for you to make an interview With composer Eric Serra on his score for GoldenEye?
I have some questions you could ask him.
    1. How much influence did He have on just how his music cues got used in the editing?
    2. Were there any unfinished tracks? When the producers replaced some of Serras music With music by John Altman, Altmn didnt just do the tank chase. He also did the archive shootout music but did Serra ever plan on scoring That sequence and If so, Will That music be available at some point?
    3. Why was the music from "The scale to hell" not used in the final film?
    4. How did He Come up With The ideas for the score? Ideas like the use of Kazoo flute in the action music and the Bond theme played on timpanis?
    5. Which synthesizers did He use to create the sounds?
    6. Which track from his score does He like Best?
    7. Will there ever be an expanded soundtrack With the whole score?

Enjoyable video with great images... don't forget that 2022 brings so many important Ian Fleming anniversaries:
Feb 1952: Ian Fleming started type writing "Casino Royale" at his villa GoldenEye - Oracabessa Jamaica
Mar 1952: Ian Fleming's wedding with Ann Geraldine Charteris - Port Maria Jamaica
Jan 1962: Filming "Dr No" started at Jamaica
Apr 1962: Ian Fleming published " The Spy Who Loved me "
Nov 1962: Ian Fleming travelled to Japan in order to research "You Only Live Twice"
Mention historic facts when talking about British author Ian Fleming (1908-1964) and when mentioning brands; morland cigarettes, Floris 89 eau de toilette, and Rolex Explorer 1016 🧐

22:35 Since late 1961 ex-naval intelligence officer Commander Ian Fleming wore a Rolex Oyster perpetual Explorer 1016, a subtle elegant 36 mm wrist watch still available to this day!
The famed British author of the James Bond novels once wrote, “ A gentleman’s choice of time piece says as much about him as does his Saville Row suit.” 🧐
35:50 Indeed the photo of Ian Fleming meeting author of "The Birds of the West Indies" was first published by American ornithologist James Bond.
British author Ian Fleming probably had a 1947 edition but actually met the ornithologist at GoldenEye Oracabessa Bay in Jamaica on February 5, 1964.
On that day, Ian Fleming offered him a signed copie of his then latest book "You Only Live Twice".
37:07 Indeed a wood smell as Ian Fleming, an ex-Naval officer wanted to use a lot of wood exactly as used on British Royal Navy ships. Remember Ian Fleming was a huge admirer of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson who as a young officer spent 30 months on at the British Naval headquarters in Port Royal - Jamaica.

I am not at all surprised there were small tears of emotion while sitting at That Desk. I am sure I too would succumb. A very good call on the removal of the Bose speaker; absolutely correct. The question about a Bond event with crowds of people did give me pause for thought. For my part, I love, I need the solitude to experience the quietude and the soul of the place. And certainly places such as Goldeneye. That said, I thought JW's answer was top notch. A superb reflection and video gents.

It was the perfect place to spend our 10th wedding anniversary and yes they had a bucket with champaign with hand written note waiting for us. It is a magical place with the most gracious staff I have ever encountered. Salt fish and ackee was my staple food while I was there.

In 1976 then-owner English record producer Chris Blackwell proposed GoldenEye to Bob Marley but in the end kept it himself and by 1989 formed the Island Outpost Company in order to open the property as a small hotel. Almost 60 years after Ian Fleming's passing, the GoldenEye estate remains one of the most private & exclusive places on Earth! 🧐
