      aw man, that's rad! thanks for responding. it's not as cool as it sounds. i live in a suuuper small one bedroom in san diego. i just want my small living room to feel cozy, almost straight out of a noir film ie: tom's apt from "Miller's Crossing" by the Coen bros. Wow, that's pretty specific but it's what I want. Haha! Also, great film. Please check it out if you're a Coen bros fan!

      do you have any suggestions on lighting? i want something that's very, very warm, kind've dim, yellow orange-ish and almost theatrical. are these bulbs something that i can find at a lighting store?

    • @Skelterina
      @Skelterina  6 років тому

      I haven't seen Miller's Crossing, but I'm picturing a dark dimly lit room with dark brassy colors; Am I close, lol? For lighting I think 2 or 3 small mismatched secondhand lamps, maybe one of those green desk lamps, something art deco, or even an old oil lamp for decoration. I'm getting carried away, lol! And as long as you stick to light bulbs with a color temperature less than 2500K and low lumens, you'll get that dim old timey look. I think incandescent bulbs might be more what you're looking for, rather than fluorescent or LED. Good luck with your decor! It such a good idea, if you ever post pics I'd love to see them!

    I'm so glad I found your vid......I had a family member to paint my home....worst mistake......he made an absolute mess.....paint on the floors ..on my furniture.....the dogs.........he told me told me he would only charge me 300.00.....well I didn't know about painting.....but I did know I wanted something that would last....so I did my research and went with the more expensive.....with primer included......I had lots of holes and dings in the wall.....I got all the putty and sanding paper.....brushes....you get the picture.....on top of that I had to pick him up daily and take him home.....well I work from home so I was in my office while he painted.....oh and he told me he painted for 20 years.....well I would come out periodically to check things out and notice how he was not taping off the base boards and window sills......and would putty on the holes but NOT smooth it out ......my furniture was not covered ......he took the colors and mixed them o make another color...

    Hi Sabrina, thank you so much for posting. I did my bedroom super quickly. My only regret is that i didn't find your straight talking video sooner- instead of the waffling pretentious post that made me nervous. Thanks so much- your video made me confident and the results are beautiful. ZX

      Zinzi Minott You're so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful! (even though I know the video quality isn't very good, lol.) Comments like this really make my day. I'm curious what colors you used....

    • @zinziminott2286
      @zinziminott2286 7 років тому +2

      You are very welcome- I am based in the UK so I used some colours tht may not be directly available in US but, I used B&Q's ( our home depot) Taupe (kitchen and bathroom emulision) and which was my main colour, I used a glaze for that. Then I used some fancy paints Craig and rose, one called Fresh plaster and the other called Regency cream. I then used 3 other B&Q emulsions called Grey state, light rain and muted pink. I painted ontop of a kinda ugly magnolia wall but it really helped as I wanted to go for a lighter, plastered wall effect, as if I had stripped the wallpaper off. It really worked and only took me 6 hours over two days. I would have finished in one session but I had to head out. It is a shame we cant post pictures here but it is super pretty and made me SO SO happy :)

    • @Skelterina
      @Skelterina  7 років тому +5

      If I remember right I think it took me a couple of days just for that little spot. I need long breaks in between sessions, so I can go back and see how I really feel about it, what colors it needs and where, etc. I'm kinda slow, I take my time, and of course if it's your first time you'll take longer. I hope you get the chance to do it though, it's so satisfying!

    Mahalo from Maui! you helped alot..about to start a wall in my livingroom...figured i better watch some pros first...also pondering doing something from the floor, just partway up...and the rest faux...and putting up a couple strips of bamboo or something to hide where they join. Does that make sense? lol Much Aloha!!

  • @millangrankvist9690

    Fantastic wall painting. I love it and am going to try it in a room. Question: Is Your base a plaster wall? Do You think this is makeable on a wallpapered wall and how do I go from there?

    • @Skelterina
      @Skelterina  3 роки тому

      Hmm, I'm not sure exactly about the wall, but it looked like painted plaster.
      I definitely think this could be awesome on wallpaper! I think it would have to have some sort of sealant or coating first to protect it from the water and scrubbing. You could do a test on a small piece of wallpaper first.

    hi, I am about to work on something similar on my kitchen and would love it if you could give me exact paint colors you used including base color. Do you use any glaze? Thank you so much!

    • @Skelterina
      @Skelterina  8 років тому +2

      Hi! Well, I'm not sure of the exact base color, it was the color of the whole apartment when I moved in, but its sort of a taupe-beige color. The paints I used for sponging were acrylic craft paints: Americana - desert turquoise, slate grey, zinc, midnite blue, neutral grey (discontinued, sadly) and Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Metallics- gunmetal, brushed pewter, titanium, nickel black. I might've used a 'glaze medium', but you really don't need one. They're really just a waste of money, I found out. Just squish a damp sponge into your paint and that's pretty much your glaze right there. If you have any more questions let me know, and I'm sure your kitchen will come out beautiful! If you post pics online please share the link, I'd love to see them!

      thats the look im going for. if it looks like its old like from the 1800's and stained and just like so trashy.... its called the vintage look. when artists are tired of everything looking perfect and they see old stuff and they find beauty in it. this is my opinion -eileen Nice comment though i was like yasss someone who finally notices how dirty this looks so that i can tell them thats suppose to be beautiful when it looks really really dirty just the way i want it to look
