    Worth checking the valve clearance and taking a look at the timing belt idlers, especially the aft one. Not as big a deal on F225 as the F250. Good luck with exhaust kit.

      Interesting that you mention the timing belt idlers, the port motor does not have much/any belt tension. We were planning on changing the timing belt for the 1k maintenence and while the belts look good the difference in tension was immediately obvious. I understand that the 225 is a non interference motor but jumping teeth is No Bueno.

    Can't believe that lower unit didn't totally burn up driving it that far when it was nearly full of water. It had to get really hot to start melting the pump impeller and housing. Luck was on your side on that trip!

      I think they were separate issues, the water pumps were melted on both motors, we think someone ran the motors while it was on the lift (prospective buyer?) The 50/50 water oil mix not blowing up the lower unit comes down to the quality of modern lubricants and materials...and luck. We don't know what condition it was in at the start of the trip, but man, i don't know how much more we could have gotten away with. Its good to be lucky.

      This video really show the need for routine outboard maintenance and inspections. In between annual service schedules on my motor, I typically loosen the drain plug on my lower unit to check for any water intrusion and pull the prop off to check for any fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft and put some grease on the shaft splines. Small efforts like this can sure help to avoid expensive repairs. I really like your bearing carrier puller. @@MarineTechTools

    It is great to see Marine Tech back to regularly producing more quality videos showcasing both the excellent after market tools you manufacture and sell as well as your maintenance procedures. Here is a "tip" I saw somewhere else on UA-cam that I will pass on for your consideration, before you are done filling up the lower unit with new oil, rotate the propeller to move the internal gears within the lower to help get rid of all the air. I thought it was a useful "tip" what do you think?
    -Much Respect !

      Glad to be back! Your tip is a good example of a thoughtful ritual. Likely unnecessary but I will probably do it from now on because its easy, cant hurt and I like the idea of getting as much oil in the unit as possible. We will keep the videos coming and thanks for watching!

      @@MarineTechTools Thank you, but I cannot claim credit for the "tip" I saw it somewhere else here on UA-cam. Unfortunately, I have very few brilliant original thoughts, which is another reason I keep watching the "experts" like YOU GUYS! Thank you again for the valuable content!

      @@apackwestbound5946 We are certainly not experts! The goal of this video series is to show our path through this project. We haven't done a project like this before but we do know we will get through it and get it done!

    You would be doing yourself a favor by doing a fuel system service and at same time get the injectors professionally cleaned.

    • @MarineTechTools
      @MarineTechTools  10 місяців тому

      Any tests that we can do to determine the need?

    • @MobileYamTechNC
      @MobileYamTechNC 10 місяців тому

      @@MarineTechTools No - just send injectors out to a reputable shop preferably with a Asus machine. For the $25ea injector they clean and flow test, normally will give before and after flow tests. Pull the VST apart and clean, change internal filter. Yamaha recommends VST service every 3 years and you should follow it if your running offshore. Looks like previous owner has not kept up on service...

    Who makes the lower unit holder/vice?

      That one is from Kerr's Marine Tool, we plan to do them at some point but have not done it yet.
