Hey great reactions. Here for 🔥 tool. Was reading through some comments to see if anyone said anything about the patient. If you dig deep enough into Maynard, you will find out that a big part of his lyrics within all husbands and even his winery, it's origin of motivation is his mother, Judith. She suffered from a anyurism and was paralyzed on half her body for 20yrs/10kdays( name of one of their albums). The patient is from her point of view living with this that way.
You got to cut these down to like 20 minutes max. I appreciate the thoroughness but I could have watched a movie.
@@ModoTronic666 i know my videos are long. But at the end of the day, I'm doing this for me. I cut down my videos to the length I think is right. I put timestamps, so that way people can just watch the ones they want and move along if they like.
@@duckfann13 damn I did not know that. That is interesting
Justin Chancellor is the bass player…. We gotta put some respect on that name. He’s basically the reason TOOL got better, which is crazy to think because they were already amazing
The story of "Ticks & Leeches" is Tool were close to finishing "Lateralus" and producers or label company were telling them the album is too "soft" compared to previous ones and pressuring them to put some more hard "metal-ish" songs into the playlist. So they made this one. Hence "Is this what you wanted? Is this what you had in mind?". The "parasite" in the track is supposed to be the company. Basically a huge diss-track in the middle of a spiritual album.
And unfortunately doing the scream actually in reality injured Maynard's voice. He is no longer capable of doing some of those screams live from opiate or undertow, or even this song.
@@crystalscolza1663 It's hard to blame one instance tho. Damage usually accumulates. What these guys did in the 90's and 00's was through blood and sweat. I'm a young singer and I'd never attempt what Maynard was doing in my age. He's still one of the best and seeing him live he's definitely walking the safe route now. I also noticed him using little bits of classical technique. He's a smart guy and sees what time did to vocal chords of other rockstars and is adapting his approach sooner rather than later.
@@theonexx762 well it is a common thought for why his voice is unable to do it anymore live. Maybe we are wrong. But as someone who has been a fan since 94 and seen them every year since then, I noticed an absolute change at that moment in their history when doing live shows. From the recording of that album on..from every tour after that, it was different. He shied away from all screaming songs for years, live. Now he uses sound help to bolster when he can't scream...
And you gotta tell the whipped cream pie story. Trying to distract Danny, which still failed.
I could not stop watching this video. It was a total joy watching you discover this album. Welcome to your new musical life. Nothing will sound the same. 🤘🏼lol. Spiral out!!
Thank you! I appreciate the support. This has been an incredible ride!
You are officially my favorite TOOL reaction video maker! You feel it! Most of the TOOL army gets it like you! Welcome into the army friend! ❤
Thank you! I really appreciate it. I definitely feel this music lol it has been a journey for sure.
Can’t wait to see your 10,000 days album reaction. Once again, tool changes up the mood of the album and overall sound. I think you’ll love it
Masterpieces absolutely everywhere throughout 10000 Days...Who am I kidding, the whole damn album is incredible!!
Fuck yeah dude, I can't wait!
Pushit is an amazing song, one of their best in my opinion. TOOL put out a live album in between Lateralus and AEnima called Salival. It has a live version of pushit that has been reimagined. It’s basically a whole new song and must be heard. It’s my favorite version of the song
I'll be going back to listen to that album for sure
It's awesome you're doing this right. Not only is there progression from song to song but also progression from album to album. From angry Maynard to perceptive Maynard to reflective Maynard to Maynard finding peace. Tool army loves to watch people listen to Tool for the first time because you only get to hear them for the first time once. We live Vicariously through reactors like you, watching them discover Tool for the first time. Especially enjoyable from an intelligent person like yourself. There are many who just dont get it and miss the magic. You are catching a lot for a first listen. Amazing reaction brother! Spiral out! 🌀 Keep going!
PS...the best Tool song is the one you happen to be listening to at that moment! 😉
Thank you! I appreciate the love. And I do agree, there's so much development in these albums. It is so great, I really have had such a great time listening to them.
Disposition/reflection/triad is supposed to be listened to together. My fav also!
There are 4 members, 4 instruments, they use effect pedals and pads to take you on your trip. A lot of what sounds like guitar is often Justin killing it on bass👍
Another great reaction vid 🔥🔥 Did the album justice. Such a masterpiece of an album Thanks for allowing us to follow your journey with TOOL. Keep spiralling out 🌀🌀🌀👁🤘🏼
Appreciate that dude! The album for sure a masterpiece lol. It's gonna suck when I get to the end and have no more new music from them
@@Stonedreviews283 lol, I hear ya bud, but trust me, TOOL never ever gets old. Been a fan since 93 and I swear I still hear new shit every time I listen to them 😂 It only gets better after each listen, so brace yourself for a life long journey 🤘🏼👁🌀
Welcome the The Grudge, it may be the single best opening track in history! Also, think of the shorter 'intermission' type tracks as palette cleansers for you as you come off an intense ride ..They're quite important to the journey and it's generally best to run right in to the next track uninterrupted.
The Grudge is best rock song I have ever heard.
The Goggles!! 😅❤ You are a purest. You are learning and open in all the right ways. 🌀
Haha thank you! I'm trying to be as open as I can, that's part of what makes life great
I cherish this Tool reactions man! Thank you!
I love your approach to entire album reviews. I also love that your favorite song is the last one you listened to. Subscribed, dude.
Thanks dude! I appreciate it
Yeah this is a total life changing album!
It is Alex Gray art, and he has been a huge part of tool's art since this album... He even has personally painted Maynards full body for a live show
The story behind the last track Fiap de Oiad goes: back in the 90s there was a radio show called the Art Bell program and it was focused on aliens in area 51 type stuff and one night he had a phone call from this dude claiming he was from area 51. This is that recording into the Art Bell show, the crazy thing is in the middle of the phone call. The transmission was cut abruptly and in the entire history of art bell, he had never lost transmission. It was just really kind of coincidental or maybe there is people out there, trying to keep us hidden from the truth.
Subbed by ninth minute!👍I do wish the music was a little louder, though. 22 years later this album remains unmatched. And the Grudge is the greatest opener ever.
Thanks for the sub! I'll look into the volume for my next video. I'm just learning how to do this really lol
By Ticks & Leeches the volume is perfect.👍
Another great set of reactions. Can't wait for the next ones. Don't forget to go back and do the Opiate EP and Salival too.
Thanks! I'll be filming the next one within the next couple days. I just needed some time to digest these 3 albums
Oh man, hearing this for the first time is something else. Sooooo good hey
Continue down the rabbit hole of the rest of their catalog and Spiral Out...
for real pushit and jimmy are two of my favs. too cheers. schism is defined as a break or fracture. in the song it is about a lack of or break in communication and all the pitfalls that come from that schism. the pieces fit we just have to put them back and re connect
Tool blew mi mind really helped me in life I'm rock metal guy but ears to all music and musician but damn Tool makes you appreciate music a different way kinda said the same things you did
Ps.tool best fucking rock band. Learn to swim 😂 fucking love it
Haha I gree dude. It's a journey for sure. I also love rock and metal
Lateralus is one of the greatest album experiences in all of recorded music history. Its an album for processing the shit in your life, going though a spiritual/emotional healing process, and then transcending to a better self. When I'm in the mood to go for that entire journey in a deeply personal way without distractions, I make two changes to the album. I put Ticks&Leeches after The Grudge (for very specific reasons) and remove Faaip (tho it too has an important lesson in it). Then sit back and prepare for some serious existential shit. And if you really want to mine your internal depths, then bring thc, lucy, or shrooms along for the ride.
I agree. It was beautiful. Even going back to hear them again.
I look at the first 3 albums as a trilogy. Undertow is abuse and addiction. Aenima is is about dealing with the pain and real world. It ends with his 3rd eye being pried open. Lateralus then starts with him shedding all that hate and negativity with the grudge. And it just follows through with spirituality and the oneness of life and whatnot.
That's a great way to look at it. Honestly fits right in
LP listens don't get old. Always catching new shit I've missed. There's so much. Like, in Triad is Adam running some sort of synth pedal under the bass line and Danny's kicks? So good.
Yeah I keep hearing just so many layers! It's so grear
If I'm not mistaken, "Ticks and Leeches" was their response to the record company asking for a more "uptempo" song.
Tool did it before Sara Bareilles 😂 made it cool
Tool are so fucking tasteful
Every TOOL song is the best TOOL song. Until the next one……. Spiral Out!
Ticks and leeches was a response to their label wanting a heavy song they could play on the radio. So they went heavy as fuck and put a long ass midsection in it to ensure it would not get any radio play.
❤ Theyre just too good
I've watched all 3 of your album reviews, great stuff. T00L is a life changer bro. Where are you seeing them at? They are amazing live, seen them 12 times, first time in 1995 and the last time in 2019. Have a good one brother. 🤘🏼🌀👁️🌀🤘🏼
Thanks for watching and coming on this journey with me! I'm seeing them next month in Vancouver. So I'm gonna do maybe half a tab of acid and go. Thats so dope you've seen them that many times!
I would recommend watching their live act sober, but that's just me. Experiencing it sober is a trip on its own.
These songs will hit sooo much harder when you don't have to be eyes open and reading the lyrics...Just wait!!
Yeah I've been going back, it's so nice to just be completely in it
If it helps, I know the drummer uses Sonor toms, at least one rototom, but also he uses a snare drum with the snare wires turned off. The choice of having the snare wires off gives him a kind of chorus of similar sounds without having a traditional snare that cuts through everything. The snare ends up being just one more membrane that he's hitting. That and both of his kick drums are tuned to different notes, so you can think of Danny as someone with a wide scale that he can move up and down. The snare, toms and kick drums are all just a continuous scale that he makes rhythms on. Then, he uses electronic drums to exactly the same effect when he wants to switch to that timbre. It sounds like he's rhythmically playing a scale instead of keeping time.
That's such a crazy way to do it. He is a genius for sure
The way he says the syllables in the first lyrics, just think Fibonacci Sequence and how if you follow that mathematical sequence which is found in nature and the cosmos basically you get a spiral. And their time signatures are also a Fibonacci number when combined. Awesome creativity!
I have heard that! Super fucking cool
I was your 114th sub omg I think number is connected to the Fibonacci sequence. 😂 ;)
Dude. I'm gonna tell you some crazy shit. I've seen that number my whole life. My bus number as a kid was 114. My mom died on 10/14 (take out the zero and it's 114) My grandma died in a hospital room 114. I see that number multiple times a day. Looking at the time, opening a book to that page. It's endless. But thank you for the sub!
@@Stonedreviews283 no fn way! Lol that's crazy
I was just being cheeky but cool non the less
This whole album in a dark room on shrooms will change your life even more than it does sober. Triad, that first section is the closest thing sonically to mimic the vibe of coming up fast on a trip, and just being enveloped in the trip, from 0-100 fast.
I wrote 0-100 fast before you even got to the song and said it yourself 😂
Shrooms for me has been such an out of body experience. I can't even imagine what this album would be like. I'd have to set it up before I start tripping lol
disposition and (especially)REFLECTION and then triad is TOOLS BEST PIECE OF MUSIC. I get goosebumps still on every listen and it's been over 2 decades that's how deep they hit me
You are so genuine in this fake ass world thank you bro
Thank you buddy, I appreciate that!
The end was a real phone call taken on the air during a George Noory radio show.
it was a troll, i wish they didnt it include it in the album but it connects to rosetta stoned
Trust me dude your favorite is still coming 🤟
The best band of my lifetime, 30+ year fan and no one compares!! #Toolforever

#MaynardJamesKeenanforever

What a ride right!❤❤❤❤
Hello people! Vote for Danny prog drummer of the yr on Drumeo!! Tool forever baby❣️
awesome reaction bro, fyi parabol and parabola are suppost to be played right before the other in the order you listened to them. they are connected. spiral out!!!
I gotcha, thank you dude!
The Reflection section you were questioning your lyrics...Here's the real lyrics of that section:
And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret, a confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me
The source is bright and endless
She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting
Ok sweet! I was wondering what was going on
Lateralus what can can l feel about this masterpiece to say l can feel everything is the truth of that question.
Spiral out bro 🤘
tool and dark souls... we could be besties
Hell yeah dude. Praise the fucking sun
Your goggles remind me of Danny’s kick drums! “That might be my favourite,” is what I’ve been saying for 30 years and still don’t have a definitive choice.
Yeah dude it's still so hard to choose!
Hopefully somebody told you about all of the intricacies in the song Lateralus!! All that rhythmic wordplay means something. #FibonacciSequence.
The last track was a hidden track on the cd.. Triad was the true ending
Oh ok gotcha. Triad for sure seemed like it was an ending lol
If your gonna listen to it on acid i suggest trying the holy gift version which is a certain reordering of the album in a way that corresponds with the fibonacci sequence. lines up really well other than disposition reflection and triad not going into eachother.
Or, listen to it in the order that the creators of it intended…?
@@betweentheairwell we all just watched him do that in this video, and i think he may have mentioned other orders of the song in this video, cant remember its awhile ago. But it is a well known version in the tool community to switch the order of the songs to the fibonacci sequence and it is worth a listen because it lines up the songs in a surprisingly interesting way.
@@Magnumscrotus he was on acid?
@@betweentheair no i think he mentioned he wanted to give it a listen on acid or something.
Ticks and leaches is about the record company... They wanted a harder song... Hence "I hope this is what you wanted "
Yep and they made the interlude so long to ensure it wouldn't be a radio play song, furthering the finger to the record company!
Lmao that's great, I love when bands do that
Are those Chandra's Pyromancers goggles?
I'm not sure really. I got them from area 51. They're just some cool trip goggles
The album art is all done by Alex Gray the album is 10,000 days your thinking of
