Each album I think captures a specific portion of their style. Whenever I feel like they don't have another direction to go, they prove me wrong. I always tell people I don't have a favorite Tool song. I have a favorite Tool song at this particular moment. My current obsessions are Descending and Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Last week it was their cover of No Quarter. Last month it was the live drum cam of Danny performing Pneuma. Before that, Right In Two and Hooker With A Penis if I was feeling agressive.
Getting irritated or *pissed tf off and resentful* if someone knowingly *does you dirty* is a natural reaction. But, those are *Primal Emotions* and they're *strong.* If left unchecked, even *nursed and fed,* that *Grudge backfires* and grows its roots into *your own heart and soul* and locks you up in the *Cage Of Self.*
Rage Against the Machine, Alice In Chains, Primus, and Kyuss were a few bands they were tight with and toured with. Maynard is featured on a Rage song, and tried out for Rage. Tom Morello went to high school with Adam In Illinois and were buddies and played in a band together. Tom introduced him to Adam I believe. I went to Lollapalooza 1993, and this concert had Tool, Alice In Chains, Primus, Rage, Fishbone, and Dinosaur Jr. Crazy! 1st and last time I ever saw Layne live. There is video out there with Layne singing with Tool and Maynard with AIC.
I went to Lalapalooza 1994 when Nirvana was supposed to be touring it. Unfortunately that situation with Kurt had JUST occurred. Was such a bummer. Shows were incredible though. Greenday, L7, The Breeders, Nick Cave, Smashing Pumpkins , Beasty Boys and the list goes on. What a show
I got into Tool later in life. I listened to a lot of numetal growing up and I was kind of the person that didn't "get" Tool til I was older. Now they are probably my favorite band of all time.
The intermission tracks on Tool albums are palate cleansers, like those slices of ginger with sushi to get the taste of the previous bite out of your mouth and prepare you for the next one. Part of what makes the journey so rewarding
Parabola was the least song that I liked on this, 18 years later it hit me. I had to go thru something to completely understand it. After a good friends funeral this came on and it completed the album for me as a masterpiece. I always said Aenima was their best....but it soon changed to all of them are the best..it depends where u are in life and you realize that all this pain is an illusion.
I remember when Undertow came out early spring of 93 I believe and my mom wouldn't get it for me, so I spent a couple of months begging. Then during the summer break went door to door asking if i could cut the neighbors grass for 2$. By the time summer break was almost over I had finally got enough money to buy the album. 12 year old me was so hyped and I listened to that album on repeat for the whole school year following. 9 years later Lateralus comes out and a couple of month after me and my friend got our hands on a copy, my friend overdosed. Which through me into a downward spiral for the next few years. Listening to this album after so many years wash really hard for me but it brought back so many good memories also. Thanks for the reaction and the memories!
My all-time favourite band. Songs like Aenima, Rosetta Stoned/Lost Keys(Blame Hoffman) and the all-time VP's Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days (Wings pt. 2) - Both tear-jerkers. All masterpieces in my humble opinion.
Crazy to think I first heard this over 21 years ago. Supposedly, the bass in the background of "Mantra" is Maynard squeezing his Siamese Cat and coaxing a purr.
this album came out 2001. I wanted to go see them so bad for this tour but I was only a freshman in high school and my mom wouldn't let me take off from school. Sucks because this album is still one of my favorites over 20 years later. Fortunately I was able to see them 2nd row, center, VIP in January 2020 for Fear Inoculum. It was epic
GD..! 2nd Row! That took some ch$nge.. I'll forever be Jelly. I missed it! 😟 I will find a way to "manifest" another tour, another album, another opportunity. TOO see Live & Not this 13 yr. Shit! 😶
Easily one of the best albums ever. Another album that deserves a similar treatment is the Mollusk by Ween. They’re an almost undefinable band worth a listen.
Great reaction vid! Thanks so much for this. And thanks to the person who requested it, Definitely do a Tool song a week. You won't regret it. The journey through their discography is an incredible ride. Spiral out 🌪👁🙌🏼
Actually...yes both at the same time, it IS too much but that's exactly why it's so amazing. The album was practically made to go with powerful hallucinogens, try it sometime
I first listened to this when I was 12 on a bus in Hawaii at night. I share a birthday with this album, my 15th year of living. Love this band and this album!
I've been listening to tool for 27 years and here I am listening to you talk about them. Also, yes, parabol/parabola blend together seamlessly as one song on the actual album. Keep it up.
One of the greatest albums ever and the first CD I ever bought. Favourite track is Reflection. Favourite Tool song either Third Eye or Pushit Salival though they’re all very close. Lateralus title track is also in the top 5. This is my favourite Tool album, somehow outdoing Aenima which is literally perfect lol I first heard an edited version of the title track Lateralus on the radio and thought it was pretty cool… I’d briefly seen the video for Schism previously… then the radio played the full 9 minute song and I was absolutely blown away… I actually emailed the radio station to ask about the different versions… this ended up prompting me to buy the cd :)
You’re a rare breed-You’re smart, and you know how to listen to a piece of art without interrupting it every 10 seconds. I fear that most people can only digest things 10 seconds at a time, and that’s not good.
My first listen story of this album is atypical. It's atypical for me, and, I assume, atypical for the average listener or fan. At the time this album was released, I happened to be surrounded by card-carrying Tool army-types. Big-time fans... I gladly fell into the fray, and, somehow, I wound up at a listening party at Hastings music store, one day prior to release. Having this album blasted into my face from a PA system, when almost no one in the world had heard it yet, was nothing short of magical! That's... my courageous story!
Seen them twice live very cool "experience" absolutely love their vibe and music. Love your reaction, always cool to see when someone gets it for the first time. Lateralus is for sure a cerebral experience not your normal rock-n-roll, hope you are a fan now as well.
Hello, Maynard James Keenan also has 2 other bands, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. Both different, but amazing. Maynard also has a Wine Vinyard in Jerome, Arizona . I seen Tool and Puscifer in concert. They are awesome musicians.
Absolutely correct about 'Ticks and leeches' and the label. They wanted something shorter and catchy to be radio friendly... and this is what they got lol... "cuz this is what you're getting."
I think their are 2 kinds of grudges. The typical one, where they may challenge your belief system. The other one is where they just are flat out toxic for your growth as an individual. Noticing the difference between the two is very important. Never let a person drag you down, just because you care about them.
I first saw em in 2001 and 02 in my hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand. The Melvins opened for em first year, then Osseus Labyrint hung from the rafters second, during schism. (The lady, Hannah Sim one half of them died in 2016 after a tragic accident). Then I saw em 2011, 2013, and Feb 29th 2020.
Lateralus I think is where they solidified that Adam is the master of these high gravity or foreboding guitar riffs. Hard to describe them. Like if the warboy speaker truck from Fury Road was personified in a riff. Or the sound you’d hear when Thor came to fuck your realm up or something. Foreboding.
So first time i tried mushrooms of the hallucigenic variety. Was my 19th birthday and just so happened to be the first time i listened to this epic album. So tripping out my tree in my mate callums, (who coincidentally was an artist) so imagine spirals metal posters collages on the wall. I must of spent the who of reflection stroking furry posters tripping ny balls off. Hooked... Line sinker and copy of the angling times. Now he lives in Barcelona lolz fun times
Parabola: "Thinking about this stuff could have you going off the deep end." You might even say it could have you ... Spiraling Out. 😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘 Keep going. 🔥🔥🔥
I still have my "snail mail" fan club letters and the anonymous sticker they sent to fan club members announcing the Aenima album release. I camped out in Atlanta and slept on the street on the street and shared KFC with fans from North Carolina and homeless people to get our Tickets for the first show of the tour "An Evening with Tool" at the Tabernacle. Great memory.
Rumor has it the drums in Ticks and Leeches is one take played the entire way through. I’ve seen enough of Danny playing to believe it. And it doesn’t generally fit the album. It’s supposedly on there because record executives insisted Tool put a heavy track on the album.
I accidentally took an EXTREME dose of mushrooms. Ended up in the hospital, it was intense. I remember being SO GLAD to get back in my warm, heavy, squishy, comfortable body !! It was such a relief. Learned a lot.
IIRC, the Grudge is also about how the church was trying to disprove Galileo's theory of the earth not being the center of the universe, the sun being the center with other planets, etc. They had a huge grudge against him. 'Saturn comes back around,' is a reference to astrology, though don't really know what it means. -'calculate what we will or will not tolerate' - another jab at the church for deciding whether Galileos' work should be acceptable for the public -'Clutch it like a cornerstone, otherwise it all comes down' - if the church let go of their scientific beliefs and accepted his new model of the solar system, then so many things they'd taught the public would crumble. 'Choose one or ten' I believe is a reference to the church choosing whether they should believe they are the center, the one planet, or that there are 10 celestial objects. 'let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold' - lots of the science back then was alchemists trying to turn various materials into gold, so it's a poke at the science of the time as well. There's so much more that can be dug into with this song, but The Grudge has a double meaning, both historical and then personal to anyone who listens to it.
My take/understanding - In astrology, The return of Saturn (ie - Saturn making one trip around the sun - about 27 years) is an opportunity for someone to learn from their past and move to another level of enlightenment. If you have not learned from your past (in this case, held a grudge) it will not bring you to the next level. So here, Saturn comes back around and you've learned to let go of your grudges and it lifts you up, or if you have not Learned to let go of your grudges it will 'spit you out' and sends to back to learn in the next 27-ish years.
it wasn't tomahawk touring with tool in 2002 atleast when I saw them then Mike Patton opened but with his band fantomas which that night they where bood and it drove me crazy because that night they sounded better than tool and this is coming from a 20 yr long mega tool and Maynard fan that night they were just off idk I just remembered enjoying fantomas more since they've redeemed that show with there 2019-20 tour greatest live visual experience of my life and the sound was incredible I could tell they had all leveled up as a band
Sounds weird but the vinyl is way better, something about the feel and personal touch of a physical album. Digital is ok but you don’t get the feeling like on a vinyl. The bass hits way harder!
Hey brother thanks for doing this man! This was so awesome to watch!!!! Also, be very careful throwing this stuff on youtube this is how I got a strike. Much love brother keep doing what you do
One of their [best] albums. All of their albums are one of their best albums . Every song on this album is my favorite song on this album.
Outstanding 😆
Very good.
Let’s just face it it’s fucking ALBUMTACULAR!!!
Beautiful.
Rage Against the Machine, Alice In Chains, Primus, and Kyuss were a few bands they were tight with and toured with. Maynard is featured on a Rage song, and tried out for Rage.
What a show
I'm pretty sure I've heard Maynard got Tom Morello to start playing in drop-D tuning.
Kyuss rocks!
Maynard also featured in Deftones Passenger
That’s a sick lineup
I got into Tool later in life. I listened to a lot of numetal growing up and I was kind of the person that didn't "get" Tool til I was older. Now they are probably my favorite band of all time.
Even after 20 years...The Grudge....every fucking time.🤯 Seriously, the greatest album ever made.
The intermission tracks on Tool albums are palate cleansers, like those slices of ginger with sushi to get the taste of the previous bite out of your mouth and prepare you for the next one. Part of what makes the journey so rewarding
YES!! Do no skip or underestimate the power of the 'intermission' track..!
Parabola was the least song that I liked on this, 18 years later it hit me. I had to go thru something to completely understand it. I really wish I'd bought the album, after recording Sober on VHS, off RTR Countdown chart show. I woulda loved it!
Great share dude! Hard work and perseverance for the win!
Facts bro. Deftones and Tool are my two favorite bands. To me they are my ying and yang.
this album came out 2001. I wanted to go see them so bad for this tour but I was only a freshman in high school and my mom wouldn't let me take off from school. Easily one of the best albums ever. Another album that deserves a similar treatment is the Mollusk by Ween. They’re an almost undefinable band worth a listen.
Ween. One of Rock n Roll's greatest secrets.
Brilliant album. Can’t really think of a bad Tool song. Really glad you are listening to this classic. Sorry it got cut.✌️
Lawd… you took on a tough task. Impressive
My favorite band, you maybe my favorite reaction so far. Thanks for doing the best band!!
T doing a tool full album reaction... Sold... 🤘😝🤘
Great reaction vid! Thanks so much for this. And thanks to the person who requested it, Definitely do a Tool song a week. You won't regret it. The journey through their discography is an incredible ride. Spiral out 🌪👁🙌🏼
In truth, TOOL is a collaboration of brilliant minds and god-like talent. The spiritual experience is mindblowing.
Hell yeah man. Keep em coming with these tool albums. Love the channel brother
Welcome to the greatest Album ever created
subbed for the Tool. keep it coming.
This album and mushrooms (not at the same time) that would be too much, completely changed the way I see life, reality and existence.
Actually...yes both at the same time, it IS too much but that's exactly why it's so amazing. The album was practically made to go with powerful hallucinogens, try it sometime
Tool, is a way of life. Great reaction to I think one of the goats of song writhing. My opinion.
The vibe that i got for this is that you looked this up in advance lol. Best band EVER . They don't make great songs, they create masterpieces.
Tool + Primus is the apex of musicianship.
Keep it up.
I don't have any favorite Tool albums or songs. Tool in its entirety is pure life! Spiral out bro!
One of the greatest albums ever and the first CD I ever bought. Favourite track is Reflection. Favourite Tool song either Third Eye or Pushit Salival though they’re all very close. We need TooL week bro no bullshit. Love your take on TooL
Don’t forget to have always your Lyrics with you when you listen to Took, especially for the first time !
It depends what you’re looking to get out of the music. The band decided not to include lyrics for a reason.
True! And I know and I agree with them; but at least once we all need lyrics but then leave it to our own selves…
Love Tool my favorite band, and my favorite album from Tool
Lateralus, Reflection, The Grudge, Parabol and Parabola schism are favs
You’re a rare breed-You’re smart, and you know how to listen to a piece of art without interrupting it every 10 seconds. I fear that most people can only digest things 10 seconds at a time, and that’s not good.

This entire song, DESCENDING, is mesmerizing and hypnotic
Seen them twice live very cool "experience" absolutely love their vibe and music. Love your reaction, always cool to see when someone gets it for the first time. Lateralus is for sure a cerebral experience not your normal rock-n-roll, hope you are a fan now as well.
My first time Tool Experience was this Album. Back in 2002. (20 Years, wtf) It was a … it was…. don‘t know! Unbelieveble?
My favourite track off this album is every tool song lol (they have seventy)
Damn…. Reflection & Triad 😢
My favorite Tool albums m is whichever one I happen to be listening to at the he time! My favorite band. Ever. Period.
Hello,
Maynard James Keenan also has 2 other bands, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle.
Both different, but amazing. Maynard also has a Wine Vinyard in Jerome, Arizona . I seen Tool and Puscifer in concert. They are awesome musicians.
I think the song lateralus is their magnum opus. Fantastic reaction bro!!!!
Absolutely correct about 'Ticks and leeches' and the label. They wanted something shorter and catchy to be radio friendly... and this is what they got lol... "cuz this is what you're getting."
I've seen TOOL over 40+ in my short 47yrs.... TOOL = GOAT
If your covering tool I'm ALL IN.... TY 🙏
These full album reviews are dope Bro.
Right on bro 🤘🏼🌀
Enjoy and do another maybe ha!

Awesome song! Without question, but I think we need some cowbell
Heck of a job on this Brother.
Parable and parabola are two of my favorite workout songs ...it ends strong with pain is an illusion! ;)
The final section is 2 minutes too short...should have raged longer!
They toured with The Flaming Lips for the Undertow tour. ✌️
Best way ro realy injoy TOOL is live they have live profomce like none other they dont miss not 1 single beat sound
This song is definitely on my top 5.
Lateralus I think is where they solidified that Adam is the master of these high gravity or foreboding guitar riffs. Hard to describe them. Like if the warboy speaker truck from Fury Road was personified in a riff. Or the sound you’d hear when Thor came to fuck your realm up or something. Foreboding.
Adam 'soundscape' jones
Wow best analogy ever and now I know why I loved Fury Road so much😂
You’re a savage going through a whole Tool album hoped you enjoy the Other albums
Great choice of interlude music during bathroom break.
The Grudge would be my favorite song, if I had to pick just one. It's difficult, that's why I don't choose.
Saw you mention Edge of Sanity… check out Dan Swano’s Moontower abum 😀
Peace friend!
✌️🤘🇨🇦
I re-discovered this album on mushrooms, lol, and it helped me with some shit.
Pay attention to syllables at the start, and watch-well, listen, for Fibanachi sequence
"Lateralus" is my fav of this album. If it's not yours you need to listen to it again. "Reflections" is a close second. They're all great though.
The Patient is the most meaningful song I've ever heard in my entire life. After all of this time, do you feel it more?
Maynard's cat desires a schism. Bad kitty!
Parabola: "Thinking about this stuff could have you going off the deep end." You might even say it could have you ... Spiraling Out. 😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘 Keep going. 🔥🔥🔥
Tool is the one band of the Gen that can you can compare to the old. 60 an 70s band they are on a lvl that grps have not bin to in decads
And his findings on saturn an that we are not the center of the Gods creation hence whr the Grudge like 👑
I still have my "snail mail" fan club letters and the anonymous sticker they sent to fan club members announcing the Aenima album release.
I keep playing Parabola in my car. Lateralus on repeat.
From the first song to the last it's actually 1 whole song....
No T i am not waking n baking to this reaction....😝
I accidentally took an EXTREME dose of mushrooms. Ended up in the hospital, it was intense. I remember being SO GLAD to get back in my warm, heavy, squishy, comfortable body !! It was such a relief. Learned a lot.
Thank you Julian
WOW, I turned away to my PC & Lateralus turned into instrumental Sober? I def missed something...lol!
I wanna see an Immutable album react. Meshuggah started in 1987!
like all their albums as a fan. this 1 or Undertow for favorite although almost want to say Opiate. love the aggression in the EP
Aw, and Cassandra Geminni 32 minute version
#please#
Its the fifth album. They've released to this point: Opiate, Undertow, AEnima, and Salival
You're forgetting 10,000 days and Fear Inoculum?
All EARLY 90s bands are the BEST... TOOL IS THE BEST BY FAR THO
Pink Floyd was the only group that had noises, moans, and strange music in the back ground. Tool is the only recent group that has done it.
Led Zeppelin wants to have a word
IIRC, the Grudge is also about how the church was trying to disprove Galileo's theory of the earth not being the center of the universe, the sun being the center with other planets, etc. They had a huge grudge against him. 'Saturn comes back around,' is a reference to astrology, though don't really know what it means.
-'calculate what we will or will not tolerate' - another jab at the church for deciding whether Galileos' work should be acceptable for the public
-'Clutch it like a cornerstone, otherwise it all comes down' - if the church let go of their scientific beliefs and accepted his new model of the solar system, then so many things they'd taught the public would crumble.

If you have not done so,you should read the lyrics. Very deep
tick and leeches=dedication to the record company 💞
Dude was so into the music he drank out of an empty cup 29:15 🤘
Fun fact:
Mantra is a cat whirring
it wasn't tomahawk touring with tool in 2002 atleast when I saw them then Mike Patton opened but with his band fantomas which that night they where bood and it drove me crazy because that night they sounded better than tool and this is coming from a 20 yr long mega tool and Maynard fan that night they were just off idk I just remembered enjoying fantomas more since they've redeemed that show with there 2019-20 tour greatest live visual experience of my life and the sound was incredible I could tell they had all leveled up as a band
To witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain...
Sounds weird but the vinyl is way better, something about the feel and personal touch of a physical album. Digital is ok but you don’t get the feeling like on a vinyl. The bass hits way harder!
I know it's a cover but no quarter best song ever by tool or any one ever
I can safely say that Parabola changed my life.
Maybe the best album ever?
Hey brother thanks for doing this man! This was so awesome to watch!!!! Also, be very careful throwing this stuff on youtube this is how I got a strike. Much love brother keep doing what you do
Did you get a strike for particular song or a full album?
@@TheAdventuresofTNT used to do full albums just listening to them and still got it
@@TheAdventuresofTNT that's also what drove me to use Twitch instead of UA-cam for streaming
Aenima is hands down the best albumn then undertow 10000 days fear this one and then opiate but only because it only has 6 short songs
Everything is wo king
Working
Maynard writes songs for u and u to interpret
