What I love about this cutscene is that at first glance it just seems like random shit happening, but it’s really just a demonstration of what can happen in game when you fail to sneak past BTs.
You must watch shitty films then, or just consider the media as what the most grossing movies are... Looks like an interesting premise tho, always is until you remember it's suppose to be translated into gameplay.
I am legitimately curious what kind of movies you watch because that statement is bullshit. Misunderstand me correctly, this looks great! But your statement... ehhh.. If you would i could give you a list of great interresting movies for you to watch.
Yeah, watch. Not participate in. Give me a video game any day over a movie. Passive or active. And I've seen an awful lot of movies in my lifetime. Many of them amazing and excellent, but I was still sitting passively.
Kojima tweeted this. "So how did you like the new DEATH STRANDING trailer? If you rewatch the last 2 trailers, you may be able to find some clue." Time to find these clues my dudes!
I think that this baby is being hunted, and that there are those that do the hunting, and those charged with the protecting. The theme is raw mortality. It plays on all of the primal and grounded fears of death and decay.
DS is much more than a game. Play through it in its entirety once. Contemplate what occurred, take a break, then do it all again until you know you've done it all properly.
Hideo Kojima is not a game producer. He is an artist capable of creating some of the best narratives that exist in fiction. I wholeheartedly believe that the story Kojima is creating here is what will merge both the interactive video game media with the passive movie/television medium. The best of both worlds, and hopefully, what will be looked at as one of the the most game changing video games. pls dude I need this
That's definitely possible and I'm gonna try to temper my expectations, but it seems like thought is being put into everything they've shown us so far to me.
I love being able to see Kojima’s creative side run free without being bound by Konami. I’ve never been so excited for something that has only been giving me more questions than answers in the YEARS we’ve known about it! Can’t wait to see what comes next!
But Kojima said that in a totally Kojima-style convoluted way that makes a lot of sense. Saying that he runs the museum that contains the art, and creates the art as well, and that art is fine if only 1/100 people "get it" but games must be appreciated by all 100. To me it sounded like he said games go beyond art. :P
Some cool details and Easter Eggs (and theory): - You can see one of the black creatures holding ppl down on the black mud, and its kojima. (4:20 right side of the screen) - the babies are being used as batteries for the light flapping devices - There is a Ludens keycharm on the artificial womb (7:00) - The man helping his stuck teammate bears the words: "Corpse disposal team 6" - Sam (Norman Reedus) has a dream catcher strapped on his back - The bracers have a health indicator that show us blue, yellow and red light as you get low on health. - Tiny hands marks on Norman's esophagus, where the baby is. - I belive Norman throws up some sea roaches (ligia oceanica)[edit: or oversize tartigrades as some pointed out] - judging by the posture and body language, the man on top the moonroover is Mads. - The whale is swimming upside down BTW, I think i got something... They were using the baby as a battery. The characters that had the baby could turn on those light flapping devices... So, energy now is being taken from living organic beings. They also told us about explosions. Maybe, the explosion that fucked up the world as we know was a solar one, and we got hit by that and lost access to all kind of electricity and tecnology as we are used, being forced to use the energy from living beings. umbilical "cables" from whales, crabs and everything that lives, for exemple - even humans. Those intangible monolithic figures are doing the same, but with sky high eficiency - as they try to consume living being only, and when they did, that big ass explosion happened. Humans are lurking in the depths, trying to hide and survive, maybe fight back - and they are hunting us for whatever reason they need this kind of energy.(maybe they were affected too by this solar apocalipse)
In the very beginning when it's panning across the plants, they're wilting rapidly. I dunno if that was an obvious detail or not, but I didn't see anyone noticing or mentioning it here.
I don't think battery is the right word. The device the baby is in and the light are probably both powered by something actual batteries. What it seems like is the baby uses the light to point out the monsters while they are invisible and warn you when to be quiet. The "monsters" seem attracted to Biological movement/sound, but not electronic devices movement/sound. The babies are also probably biological to some degree since they go still and cover their case when the monsters are around too.
It’s most definitely the sea bed, however it seems that something else has either sucked out the water or has been unveiled by the retreat of our most vital resource
You can't deny the strong Lynchian vibe this piece exudes, that's what brought about the mentioning of his name. His involvement in this project is not a thing, or if it is, it hasn't been announced yet.
@ Mats Kaarbo Twin Peaks is some of the best television I've ever seen. Season 3 exceeded my expectations so much. The season 2 finale will probably always be my favorite episode though, just because of the Black Lodge sequence.
i like the game but it definetly underdelivered in a lot of aspects, concepts and story are cool as always i like weird stuff and the cast was awesome, mads especially
So I got some theories! The guy who died first and got dragged away was aging! He was a young guy with a full head of hair and right before he got dragged away you can see he's an old man with balding white hair. So it seems like the oil monsters can age a person rapidly. Idk if the 2nd bridges guy killed him out of mercy, or because allowing that guy to get killed by the monsters does something. A handprint appeared on Sam/Norman when he crashes into the water! I think this game is gonna be kind of like a groundhogs day kind of game, if not similar. The handprints represent the times he has died/the baby has died. It explains why he repeats the same lines from the beginning at the end of the trailer! My guess is that everytime he dies he resets in another universe or timeline or whatever so that could possibly explain why a lot of things are similar at the end of the trailer when you compare it the the end of the first reveal trailer. Also the guy who floated on top of the car might be Mads! He mimics Mads moves from his trailer! The "shhh" gesture and the "go/over there" gesture! He may look like he is a good guy at first, like he is warning them about the oil monsters, but then the oil thing starts grabbing onto the 2nd guy which makes me believe he is the one responsible for the oil. His robot arm thing isn't white like the Bridges guys and Sam either. I also noticed that he has a baby container on him too which I couldn't see until this amazing 4K video released! Another detail I picked up was that the bridges guys are wearing the handcuffs on their wrists! It seems to indicate how much life/health they have left. But instead of one of the cuffs hanging off of their wrists it looks like they're wearing both on one wrist. They also have Corpse Disposal Team armbands on. Probably trying to get rid of that body with the golden skull on it but failed to do so without getting caught. (sorry if this doesn't really make any sense, im just going off the top of my head without really thinking it out too much. Feel free to tell me what you thought about the new trailer!)
IsThatBarrak the “madz” character also has a golden skull, like on the dead body. I think they had captured him and he got loose after he sank into the oil
Pretty interesting, I also had the idea of the multiple universe/timeline scenario. And the other things seem pretty logical, it wouldn't surprise me if you're right with these things.
I remember in the past interview with Guillermo del Toro when Mr. Hideo Kojima say "Junji Ito !" randomly. So, This is the trivia he mentioned in the past. A horror sensation inspired by Junji Ito.
I gotta wonder what about his fate was so bad that he tried to STAB HIMSELF TO DEATH before meeting it...that's certainly one way to make your colossal mindflayer intimidating. It's one thing to be big and menacing, it's another to drive a man to go all psycho on himself.
No one took it, he fucked the series up and tried to pass the blame. The making of MGSV vids cleary show this. Just like Pete M from lionhead, Kojima made a shit load of bad moves.
The bracelets seem to show your health. The bracelet of the guy trapped under the truck is orange right from the start. And when the other guy is hanging upside down you can see his is blue initially until he starts stabbing himself and then it changes to yellow and then orange.
If it wasn't for this video, I wouldn't have even knew I subscribed to Kojima-san's channel. But hey, "The Adventures of Norman Reedus and the Funky Fetus" continues
Kojima and all of his team are extremely talented! This trailer (albeit a short movie) absolutely blew us away giving us more questions than answers. However, it has given us more to go on in terms of what this game could be about. A few things that I have noticed so far (after multiple viewings.) 1a. Corpse disposal team 6. It appears that within this game's world, disposing of the dead properly is of the utmost importance - it's hard to tell why, perhaps the black figures feed on the dead, and harvest the living? Additionally, it appears that the corpse was sucked/dissolved into the black liquid, whereas the guy who was injured, was dragged away. 1b. The guy who was dragged away looks almost EXACTLY like Ryan Karazija of Low Roar. It wouldn't surprise us if it was really him. It also appears as if being close to the entities that dragged him away ages you rapidly, perhaps draining you of life. 2a. The baby/pod/shoulder tech appear to work together in order to detect the presence of the invisible entities. (Which I believe to be the moster we see above the watery surface towards the end.) 2b. These entities detect you by signs of life such as breathing/organic noises - the shoulder tech didn't seem to bother them, nor did the initial gunshot. 3. The floating guy who landed on the vehicle is without a doubt Mads. (I do not believe he is inherently evil, he perhaps has a chaotic/neutral/self serving agenda?) He is also in possession of a baby in a pod. 4. Homo Ludens is shown as a little mascot connected to the baby pod. 5. Kojima is part of the black liquid entities. You can clearly see his face around 04:20. 6. The bracelets/handcuffs light colour indicate health status. Blue being healthy, red as dead/near death. 7. Sam is a porter - perhaps he is responsible for the movement of corpses/disposal or for the baby? 8. The marine life swim upside down - or perhaps they are the right way up in their perspective, and the "surface" of the water, is actually the link/surface between that world to the other side. Imagine if you will, the hand prints are actually coming from below the floor, not from above. It is in-fact the floating entity on the other side of the world scouring for the living/dying which then drags/dissolves it into a pool of black liquid. Furhter more, maybe that explains why water/black liquid is always shown and swells/floods when that entity is near/opens the gateway between worlds. This game has us tekno witch doctors EXCITED! what a time to be alive, and what a time to explore the mind of Kojima and team.
Here's what I got from the trailer, gameplay wise: -The LED Bracelet displays your Health. Goes from Blue - Yellow - Red. -The Antenna only activates when you have the baby. --It alerts you when an enemy is nearby. --It pulses faster the closer the enemy is to you and decreases as the enemy moves further away. --When the baby is outside in the tube, it goes into an idle state(?) with 4 flaps. --When the baby is inside the stomach(?) or hibernates in the tube, the antenna is active with 5 flaps.
The antenna also points in the direction of the enemy, which may be what we need to know where to shoot invisible enemies like the guy who gets pulled in the air attempts to. So it tells you how close they are, and in what direction. I'm also guessing the colors on the cuffs/bracelets will sync up with the LEDs on the Dualshock controller.
Also, the evil looking presumably Mads character's flappy thing only had 3 flaps... and it was colored more orange/red. Interesting stuff. Same technology but like an older or an "eviler" version of it? No clue, lol.
That black goo takes your health ifyou're exposed The enemies can locate you if you have the baby working too much, they want the babies. Seems to be a human experiment that fucked up the humanity and other spieces gens before and now mankind survive from labs searching to defeat that new agent that hunts the life we know, but I'm not sure about the plot behind babies and the lack of women in that universe. Gameplay will be close to mgsv, a tps with improved mechanics, new stuff and all the innovations that hideo always do. mgsv has an amazing gameplay.
MGS was Kojima's caterpillar stage. He had lofty goals, but was confined by his form, by the producers of Konami and by the (semi) realistic setting of MGS. Being fired from Konami was his cocoon stage, and now with Kojima Productions, he's finally a butterfly. Free to soar the skies and be as twisted and fucked up as he wants to be. God help us all.
SolidQuentin I never actually followed MGS, i am from the few ones that get know Death Stranding thanks knowing the Low Roar band :-D :-D so...is really DS related to MGS series? should i follow it more?
"I know who I am. I’m the dude thats playin’ the dude disguised as another dude." Kirk Lazarus This game will be a Horror, Science Fiction, Survival story. Mr. Kojima, will have completely revolutionized our entire gaming wourld.
Tulum Tellez I just want to see gameplay and get a release date already, I hope Kojima stops trying to hide clues in these cryptic trailer, and fuckers up a major plot point again like MGSV. I feel like that's why these trailers are so damn wierd.
Trailers 2 and 3 are happening at the same time. The 2nd one is in our "Earth" dimension and the 3rd is happening in another dimension. Mads' gestures in both trailers are the exact same and the doll shows up at his feet right when the Baby falls into the oil in the 3rd. There is some parallel dimension stuff going on like the Upside Down in Stranger Things...
Well it just opposite of what u are 2nd trailer in another dimension and 3rd trailer in earth dimension.but the thing u said about parallel dimension is true dude
The guy floating with the orange glowing mecanical arm is Mads, he does the same gesture with his hand in the second trailer; The handcuffs that Norman has in the first trailer appear to be some kind of "health" meters in this trailer as the guy dying has a red light on his, and the others have a blue light; There's also a Ludens keychain attached to the baby's pod, although I think that's just an easter egg; There's a dream catcher on Norman's backpack, and it is seen again floating in the water later in the trailer, indicating that at least 2 of the Norman's shown on this trailer are the same one;
I’m glad the trailers don’t reveal much about the game but still keep people hooked and wanting more, especially since most trailers for movies games and TV shows reveal all there is to know about the piece media, which ruins the experience of witnessing it first hand, it’s like your friend seeing a movie for you and spoiling the entire plot except a company is doing it for you
Once there was an explosion, A bang which gave birth to time and space. Once there was an explosion, A bang which setup planets spinning in that space. Once there was an explosion, A bang which gave rise to life as we know it. And then.. Came the next explosion. An explosion that will be our last. -Death Stranding.
I absolutely love that they can make things that make our brains go "What?". Images, concepts, and shapes that are completely alien to us, and they make it (terrifying) art. Fuckin' round of applause for this. I've been waiting for little scraps of this since it was announced.
I do still play Death Stranding Diractor cut on PC. This is easy one of my Favor game of all time. The most Unique Gaming experince I Had, is this game, i will never forget it. You just made a Masterpice Kojima... I really mean this, wow. I am looking forward to the next in Line Death Stranding 2
This is some Jean Giraud level weirdness. I'm excited to see a talented and well funded production team take a chance and produce something like this. Can't wait to see more, Team Kojima.
This reminds me of watching a David Lynch film - strange and confusing, but at the same time I can't look away. I suspect the final product will be equally as cryptic and open to interpretation. Im cool with that.
Growing up with the Metal Gear franchise has been a great thing for me, I absolutely love it. Shame it's not going to be continued but I'm so glad Hideo has got his own studio now and his creative mind is taking it in a new direction to which I am very happy about. Things are looking good and I can't wait for this game!
5 year old comment, but I'm here because it was just announced that Kojima is making a feature film with A24 about Death Stranding. It's a good time to be a Kojima fan.
I don't know if any of you peeps noticed Hideo Kojima was in this trailer! He was one of the two figures coming up from the black liquid holding the guys legs. if you look closely, those are Kojima's signature glasses!
Michael Korotkih I don’t think Kojima is trying to explain as it’ll ruin the experience and aesthetic format that the story will uphold. There’s sooo many little details that I’ve missed watching the trailer until I read the comments, every little thing within the trailer answers questions.
Scrumpis Barchl God.. I thought I was the only one...I watched the second trailer 400000 thousand times... My brother and friends started to think I'm insane...on that note, I might be. Who knows 🤔
This is what i was waiting for and the trailer was thank god only focused on one "cutscene" or it was just one cut from the game and not like "lets put every cutscene in one trailer" like in TPP. LOOKING FORWARD TO DISCOVER THE GAME
The fact that i don't know what i'm watching, and only that alone, is realy refreshing in the video game industry. Not because it's Kojima, not because it's realy beautifull or else but because it's something i didn't see since a long time : new That trailer, and like the two trailers before, took me by surprise and just for that i give a thousand thanks for Mr Kojima and his crew.
My theories (about to go all English major here, so apologies): Babies revive / can clone: I think the babies act as cloning or regenerating devices capable of reviving sentience. At 6:26 I think that Reedus is dead, but because of the baby is revived. At 6:40, the baby copies the movements of Mads who calls in the dead in Trailer 2, and once Reedus awakes throws up black goo. This black goo signifies death, or non-existence within the dimension of existence the other characters are in. The character committing suicide is key to this theory. Even though suicide is often done is desperation, the way the guy didn't even try to survive and instantly tried to kill himself frantically with a gun/knife indicates to me that the baby is a way of re-generating, cloning or reviving life (e.g. why they are contained so securely)? The guy trying to kill himself was certain to detach the baby first, and his sole concern was that Reedus "runs" with it. To this extent, all trailers have been extremely protective of the babies in dangerous scenarios (natural disaster in trailer 1, warfare in trailer 2, and this obvious one in trailer 3.) Sam (Reedus' character) looked on as he was disturbingly trying to kill himself without stopping him or looking horrified, almost as if he knew what he was trying to do (maybe kill himself before he was swallowed by the titan so he could be cloned?) It would seem that he failed. Similarly, the trapped man didn't have a baby, seemed desperate for help unlike the suicidal man, and aged/died extremely quickly before becoming black goo - Mads: The cloaked character is Mads, I'm 99% sure of this, as his animations were almost identical to that of the unmasked Mads in Trailer 2. I think Mads can speak with the dead and I think he could even be some form of "undead" prophet. In both situations, his signals summoned the dead (trailer 2 skeletons, trailer 3 dead coming from the earth) covered in the same black goo he was leaking in Trailer 2. His motions (eye goggles disappearing, floating in air) indicate he isn't a mere mortal human being. Also re-enforces the theory of regeneration, is trailer 2 Mads was touched by the baby, as he instantly lost the black goo and reverted to looking more "alive". -Biblical References: I agree with Polygon that I think this is referring to the ninth verse of Psalm 137, “Happy shall he be that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the rock.” The area is covered in rocks, and to my knowledge, the passage refers to the Babylonians who took Jewish children and killed them for "divine justice". The beings in the sky, who are obviously not mortal beings, try to consume all live on the rocky earth.
That was like a feverdream lol, but it's hard to not be intrigued. With Kojima there's a pretty good chance of the lore being deep and interesting and it all being tied together in a meaningful way rather than a "be weird for weirdness sake as a gimmick" sort of game. In any case - cool to see him tackling something very new and thematically different from his previous work. He probably needed that at this point :)
Here's what I've picked up on so far: - Each trailer begins with live/death - Dead crabs in the first two, and the rapidly aging plants in this one - Focus on feet, as the first human in each trailer has their foot revealed first - This shows the contrast between the Humans and other Beings, Foot vs. Hand - The other Beings are actually 4th-dimensional beings (4th dimension is time) - The Humans (3rd-dimensional beings) cannot see the 4th-dimensional beings - Beings of a lesser dimension cannot comprehend beings in dimensions higher than them - The only forms the Humans see are other human-like forms - The Beings do this so that the Humans could actually comprehend them - The plants and the trapped-man age rapidly due to exposure to the presence of 4th-dimensional beings - In the second trailer, WWII era soldiers and tanks can be seen, most likely due to the Beings altering time - The WWII soldiers are skeletons resurrected by the Beings to do their bidding - Sam (Reedus) and co. are from a Scientific team named "Porter" - In real life, the work of "Porter Scientific Inc." concerns environmental protection - They have technology that detects higher-dimensional beings - Sam wears grey while the other two wear orange, signifying a different rank - Sam also wears a dreamcatcher-like object on his back, unlike the other two scientists - Dreamcatchers are often hung above cribs to protect babies - The word "Bridges" is on the pant leg of the suits, which is the name of "The United Cities of America" - In the second trailer, Del Toro has a patch on his suit that says this - The first bang is the big bang, and the second bang opened a rift between the 3rd and 4th dimension - The first bang started life, and the second will end it - This is signified by the dead plant-life, dead sea-life, and the skeletons seen in the second trailer - The Black liquid is a rift between the 3rd and 4th dimension - At 3:04, the Being only appears in the 3rd-dimension after the black liquid forms - Each trailer references umbilical cords, signifying connection/life - In the first trailer, it shows a cord between Sam and the fetus - In the second trailer, it shows a cord between Mads and the skeletons - In the third trailer, it shows a connection between the larger being and the earth(?) - At 3:25, when the Being comes near Sam, smoke comes from his blood - Do the Beings radiate a lot of heat? - The Beings drag away the trapped-man, but leave him after he dies, they want him alive - The liquid begins to rise, much like the second trailer - A man appears from the sky - He makes the same hand motion as Mads did, are they the same? - Mads appeared in the second trailer after the liquid rose, the same in this one - He is wearing a gold mask, much like the corpse from 1:23 - Was the corpse one of his men? - He has the same technology as Sam and co., where did he get it from? - The Beings attempt to drag the scientists into the ground, to Hell? - The Beings don't take the scientists when they die, only when they are alive - One of the Beings that appears to take the second scientist is wearing glasses - Were they once human? - Before the scientist can kill himself, Beings alter reality - Why do they want him alive? (Sorry I don't continue from here, ran outta space) First Trailer: - Dead crabs are seen first, what is killing them? - The handprints seem more human-sized, and do not seem to have malevolent intent - Sam is unconscious and naked in the same position as the third trailer - Sam has a scar of what seems to be a C-Section, he gave birth to the baby(?) - His body has the handprints he was given while underwater in the third trailer - He is wearing handcuffs and a necklace, which do not appear in any other trailer - Handcuffs are opened, he has just escaped from somewhere(?) - Higher quality images show equations on the dog tags of the necklace - The equations are the Schwarzschild radius and the Dirac equation - "The Schwarzschild radius is the radius of the event horizon surrounding a non-rotating black hole." (Thanks Cosmos) - "Dirac's equation describes how particles like electrons behave when they travel close to the speed of light." (Thanks BBC) - The equations refer to black holes and the speed of light - Physicists say that the physics known to us would alter/break down within a black hole - No known object/matter can travel faster than the speed of light, so traveling at a similar speed may alter the perception of you surroundings - The equations could refer to the altering of our reality, much like what the Beings do(?) - The baby is now outside the incubator, and is connected to Sam w/ a cord - This may be due to this being an early version of the game, before there was an incubator - The baby disappears and leaves the black liquid, signifying the Beings taking away life itself - The original hand-prints in the trailer match the size of Sam's hands, he is like these Beings(?) - After the baby disappears, smaller handprints appear, signifying that the baby could be like the Beings(?) - Sam sees the five Beings surrounding the dead marine-life, the one in the middle crossing their arms - The beings are here to judge humanity for their ignorance to the preservation of life Second Trailer: - Dead crabs once more, connecting to the first trailer - Malformed baby doll appears, missing a leg - Has the same scar as Sam in the first trailer - Guillermo appears w/ incubator, moving fast - Running away from something? - Has a scar on forehead, brain surgery? - Wearing the same handcuffs as Sam, did they come from the same place? - If so, are the fetuses the same? Could they be separate? - Wearing the "Bridges" patch, definitely connected to Sam and co. - Planes are flying w/ strands coming out of them - Planes seem to be from the WWII era - Del Toro is frightened of them, they are from the Beings(?) - Upside-down rainbow in the sky, symbolizes an altered reality - Buildings, bridge, and power lines seem to be from another era, WWII again? - WWII era tanks appear w/ human bones and larger intestines on them, and WWII skeleton soldiers behind - Where did the intestines come from? - Skeletons soldiers have been resurrected by the Beings to fight for them(?) - As they walk by, black liquid drips down, signifying the presence of the Beings - Water level begins rising, much like the third trailer - Why does this happen? Does it signify the Beings are altering the reality? - Del Toro connects his cord w/ the incubator, and the baby wakes up - Does the connection help the baby survive? - They babies eyes are closed, he is in an earlier stage in his development than in the third trailer - Baby doll appears again, being dragged by a wire - Is it meant to attract Del Toro? - Baby's eyes finally open, and it winks - Del Toro looks down the tunnel, yet does not move - We now see many dead dolphins around him, which weren't there before, did they drift over here? - Is this town near the ocean? Is it near where the first trailer took place? - Blinking red light appears around the baby doll, why? What's on the doll? - Blinking red light appears at the end of the tunnel, they are connected(?) - WWII skeleton soldiers appear, led by a more technological human - Skeletons connected to human w/ cords, does this help humans control them? - Are they searching for Del Toro and fetus? Did they originally capture them? - Helmet disappears, revealing Mads - Can Mads also alter reality? - Mads has black streaks on his face, has he been infected by the black liquid? - Mads directs the soldiers forward, and cords disappear as well - How does he do this? Is he working for the Beings? - Compass on Mads's vest begins to spin, could this be due to the Mads altering reality? - Mads looks up to the light, looking pleased - Is something happening to him that we can't see? - Baby doll appears on Mads leg, winking like the baby before - What does the doll symbolize for the fetus? - Who was dragging the doll? - Mads looks forward again, smiling - The black streaks are gone, why? Does he no longer conform to the Beings? - Why is he smiling? Have his men found Del Toro and the fetus? - Could he be looking at us? Is he altering reality? Summary: These 4th-dimensional beings are here for a judgement of the Human race, due to our ignorance of environmental preservation, symbolized in the visuals of dying plant-life, dying marine-life, the black ink resembling oil, and the baby. It's ironic that Sam, a Scientist of Environmental Preservation, is in this situation. The baby symbolizes the remnants of humankind(?). Mads seems to be working for the Beings, could the black liquid be controlling him? Please add anything I missed, I definitely didn't get everything :) (I copy and pasted this from another comment I left)
Sorry for not finishing the notes on the third trailer. I ran outta space. Not kidding, I used up the limit. I guess that means I wrote a lot. Maybe too much. Well, if you have anything to add, please comment down below. Thanks for reading :)
7:24 among the 5 figures hanging in the air, one could immediately recognize MOM, as she is holding a child in her arms! (the rest of the hands are lowered, hers are raised as if she is holding her child) OMG
While it's not what I expected when watching these trailers back then, the game was exceedingly good. I know not everyone agrees, and I am feel for those it didn't wow, especially some of the bigger diehard Kojima fans.
I love how this shows the horrors of the Death Stranding universe. I know Silent Hills was cancelled, but I undoubtedly believe there will be disturbing elements in this game 👣👶🏼
I think that the name of the game, after watching this trailer has been explained: the guys are "stranded" in a loop cycle of death and resurrection, thats why reedus is revived in another place. the naked reedus is probably a past version of the character which is dead inside that dimension, while the other people floating under the water, might be more previous versions
My first time playing Death Stranding I snuck past BT's as if I were Solid Snake himself, trying to really live "Inside the world" and I'm gonna be honest, my nerves were on edge a lot, no doubt similar to the Metal Gear games. Subsequent playthroughs though I would either know in advance what to do OR I would purposefully get dragged into a tar pit, then run away so the threat is nullified and then freely traverse. Intentional or not, it's great design to put players on edge at first and then make the next experiences more routine.
What I love about this cutscene is that at first glance it just seems like random shit happening, but it’s really just a demonstration of what can happen in game when you fail to sneak past BTs.
Kojima:I'm making a new game
Sony: Cool what's it about
Kojima: Yes.
Tillolo79 😂
Sony: You're hired!
Kojima: Try to imagine a mashup between mother! and Annihilation.
Sony: ...I can't.
Kojima: Good.
Lmao bout sums it up
About to reconnect a fractured and isolated society that was caused by the Death Stranding
That moment when the first 2 minutes of a game trailer is more interesting than all the products of the movie industry of the year combined.
You must watch shitty films then, or just consider the media as what the most grossing movies are...
Looks like an interesting premise tho, always is until you remember it's suppose to be translated into gameplay.
Not that much. And besides, without all the movie history this wouldn't be a thing.
That moment when you think "WTF IS THAT MASSIVE MONSTER THING, WTF IS THIS ABOUT"
I haven't a clue what's going on, but I can't wait to play it.
If you rewatch the last 2 trailers, you may be able to find some clue."
Time to find these clues my dudes!
Arc what’s the clues?
Mads is in the trailer.
Ludens is Sam because of the "ocean/not ocean" in the moon just like the Kojipro logo, and Mads is that guy that pointed his finger
I think that this baby is being hunted, and that there are those that do the hunting, and those charged with the protecting. The theme is raw mortality. It plays on all of the primal and grounded fears of death and decay.
That's all I've gathered so far.
you know elf in the shelf? now get ready for fetus in the reedus
Ziv Riger this made my day 😂
DS is much more than a game.
К О Д З И М А Г Е Н И Й
I'm worried about the gameplay personally, but these graphics are incredible. I hope it looks as good at home as it does in these trailers.
Out of curiosity, what about the gameplay are you worried about? Not much has been said about it as far as I know.
Forkbutt That's just it, we know near nothing. As far as I know this could be a pachinko cabinet.
I love being able to see Kojima’s creative side run free without being bound by Konami. I’ve never been so excited for something that has only been giving me more questions than answers in the YEARS we’ve known about it!
Can’t wait to see what comes next!
Isaiah Stebbins oh come on, kojima said that konami always gave him all creative freedom he wanted. this konami dissing is childish.
Xenia Papersmutch Exactly. Kojima was also to blame for mgs 5 poor delivery
Media:" Games are not art"
Kojima:" Hold my beer"
Reedus/Del Toro/Mads:" we're coming too"
Shownon “we’re* coming too.”
@Zel
"we're coming, too."
nobody likes grammar nazis
You forgot Mads
Kojima himself has actually been on record stating games are in fact not art
But Kojima said that in a totally Kojima-style convoluted way that makes a lot of sense. Saying that he runs the museum that contains the art, and creates the art as well, and that art is fine if only 1/100 people "get it" but games must be appreciated by all 100.
To me it sounded like he said games go beyond art. :P
Some cool details and Easter Eggs (and theory):
- You can see one of the black creatures holding ppl down on the black mud, and its kojima. (4:20 right side of the screen)
- the babies are being used as batteries for the light flapping devices
- There is a Ludens keycharm on the artificial womb (7:00)
- The man helping his stuck teammate bears the words: "Corpse disposal team 6"
- Sam (Norman Reedus) has a dream catcher strapped on his back
- The bracers have a health indicator that show us blue, yellow and red light as you get low on health.
- Tiny hands marks on Norman's esophagus, where the baby is.
- I belive Norman throws up some sea roaches (ligia oceanica)[edit: or oversize tartigrades as some pointed out]
- judging by the posture and body language, the man on top the moonroover is Mads.
- The whale is swimming upside down
BTW, I think i got something...
My guess is that they are on the sea bed, not the moon. For some reason the water just float or evaporate, i don't know.
Interesting! Although the whale is not swimming upside down.
I imagine Kojima, Guillermo and David Lynch high-fiving right now. This is breath-taking to say the least!
You can't deny the strong Lynchian vibe this piece exudes, that's what brought about the mentioning of his name. His involvement in this project is not a thing, or if it is, it hasn't been announced yet.
Matthew Shezmen Praise the theme song!
I personally thought the skeleton soldier trailer was cooler. This is nice though, a little more lore to understand.
@ Mats Kaarbo Twin Peaks is some of the best television I've ever seen. Season 3 exceeded my expectations so much. The season 2 finale will probably always be my favorite episode though, just because of the Black Lodge sequence.
don't high five Lynch, you will break his coffee mug
One of the few games that lived up to the hype without ever overpromising.
It underpromised
@@iwatatiff it just didnt promise anything really, except the AI traversing landscape great
i like the game but it definetly underdelivered in a lot of aspects, concepts and story are cool as always i like weird stuff and the cast was awesome, mads especially
Ohh shut up Kojima! We know it's you!.
Mads character does the point at 3:50 in both trailers!
IsThatBarrak well done observations!
I remember in the past interview with Guillermo del Toro when Mr. Hideo Kojima say "Junji Ito !" randomly.
So, This is the trivia he mentioned in the past.
A horror sensation inspired by Junji Ito.
i have absolutely no idea what this game is about but i'm just going to start calling this Norman Reedus and the Funky Fetus
Kojima could just show 9 minutes of paint drying and I'd think it was a masterpiece
Devon Palmer No it’d turn into Snake
Deadpool, right?
#facts 😂
that's because you're an idiot xd
truth
That was brutal. Shooting yourself is easy, but repeatedly stabbing... Kojima is really pulling out all the stops on this one.
I gotta wonder what about his fate was so bad that he tried to STAB HIMSELF TO DEATH before meeting it...that's certainly one way to make your colossal mindflayer intimidating. It's one thing to be big and menacing, it's another to drive a man to go all psycho on himself.
This is what happens when you take Metal Gear away from Kojima
He decides to one-up Konami and his old child Metal Gear
konami is rethinking their life decisions rn lol
No one took it, he fucked the series up and tried to pass the blame. The making of MGSV vids cleary show this. Just like Pete M from lionhead, Kojima made a shit load of bad moves.
You must not comprehend the magnitude of this game....do some reading, especially about their take on (open world).

Dominic Perez Thumb up!!XD
Was that a thumbs up or him making a finger gun?
Def kinda both xD
The Reedus Fetus caught me off-guard.
the baby be like:(°ω°) b
The real twist is that it turns out that Kojima was the baby all along.
I'll thumbs up to that.
and the tar monster
LMAO knowing Kojima you know thats not 100% invalid lol.
that could 100% be the DS Kojima cameo.
Welcome back Kojima. We've missed you and honestly needed you.
The bracelets seem to show your health. The bracelet of the guy trapped under the truck is orange right from the start. And when the other guy is hanging upside down you can see his is blue initially until he starts stabbing himself and then it changes to yellow and then orange.
It's probably going to show your health with the PS4 controller light bar as well!
tge guy thats trapped under the car seems to get older.
*THE Hideo Kojima reborn*
KONAMI not got better with out kojima
If it wasn't for this video, I wouldn't have even knew I subscribed to Kojima-san's channel.
But hey, "The Adventures of Norman Reedus and the Funky Fetus" continues
I hope they change the name to that
Nutty Norman and the Funky Fetus, lol.
That's actually the subtitle in the box art
I think we can all agree, "What the actual fuck, Kojima?!"
jsvideosproductions You just figured that out about his stuff?
He's been eating that acid-laced katsu curry again and I'm fucking happy!
Finally a REAL use of my 4K monitor!
Pvt. Duckling damn right I might have to buy a PlayStation now

Pretty sure the PS4 version will be 1080p...
Pvt. Duckling not the pro version
It's an exclusive bruh
Kojima and all of his team are extremely talented! This trailer (albeit a short movie) absolutely blew us away giving us more questions than answers.
However, it has given us more to go on in terms of what this game could be about.
A few things that I have noticed so far (after multiple viewings.)
(Which I believe to be the moster we see above the watery surface towards the end.)
I'm even more confused and even more excited
Showed this to my lil bro and said this is where babies come from. 👶
So funny...
Scarred for life now, lmao.
Thank you.
Mikey Gaming ahah😂
You told him babies come from Norman Reedus? ;P
Here's what I got from the trailer, gameplay wise:
-The LED Bracelet displays your Health.
The antenna also seem to stand still in erect positions when you are detected possibly.
That black goo takes your health ifyou're exposed
The enemies can locate you if you have the baby working too much, they want the babies.
Seems to be a human experiment that fucked up the humanity and other spieces gens before and now mankind survive from labs searching to defeat that new agent that hunts the life we know, but I'm not sure about the plot behind babies and the lack of women in that universe.
Gameplay will be close to mgsv, a tps with improved mechanics, new stuff and all the innovations that hideo always do. mgsv has an amazing gameplay.
and since that baby somewhat eaten, norman no longer need the baby but may gain its ability. nice theory man.

MGS was Kojima's caterpillar stage. He had lofty goals, but was confined by his form, by the producers of Konami and by the (semi) realistic setting of MGS. Being fired from Konami was his cocoon stage, and now with Kojima Productions, he's finally a butterfly.

This game will be a Horror, Science Fiction, Survival story. Mr. Kojima, will have completely revolutionized our entire gaming wourld.
Tulum Tellez I just want to see gameplay and get a release date already, I hope Kojima stops trying to hide clues in these cryptic trailer, and fuckers up a major plot point again like MGSV. I feel like that's why these trailers are so damn wierd.
a blind man can understand a picture book more than we understand this
Trailers 2 and 3 are happening at the same time.
Kojima is a stranger things fan :D
Well it just opposite of what u are 2nd trailer in another dimension and 3rd trailer in earth dimension.but the thing u said about parallel dimension is true dude
The guy floating with the orange glowing mecanical arm is Mads, he does the same gesture with his hand in the second trailer;
The handcuffs that Norman has in the first trailer appear to be some kind of "health" meters in this trailer as the guy dying has a red light on his, and the others have a blue light;
There's also a Ludens keychain attached to the baby's pod, although I think that's just an easter egg;
There's a dream catcher on Norman's backpack, and it is seen again floating in the water later in the trailer, indicating that at least 2 of the Norman's shown on this trailer are the same one;
outspolsis also the floating guy has a baby pod in his chest.
Kojima MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS
Darth Vix hes a national treasure
In 2021 and still the best directed scene for a prologue in video games
I’m glad the trailers don’t reveal much about the game but still keep people hooked and wanting more, especially since most trailers for movies games and TV shows reveal all there is to know about the piece media, which ruins the experience of witnessing it first hand, it’s like your friend seeing a movie for you and spoiling the entire plot except a company is doing it for you
Yeah, too bad it isn't a movie, cause i smell the disparity with gameplay comin' a mile away.
I can't believe this makes almost perfect sense after actually playing the game.
This was such a good teaser.

Michael Korotkih I don’t think Kojima is trying to explain as it’ll ruin the experience and aesthetic format that the story will uphold. There’s sooo many little details that I’ve missed watching the trailer until I read the comments, every little thing within the trailer answers questions.

Waca Waca 7:23 STANDING
STANDING ON THE EDGE OF THE CRATER
My theories (about to go all English major here, so apologies):
Babies revive / can clone: I think the babies act as cloning or regenerating devices capable of reviving sentience.
Similarly, the trapped man didn't have a baby, seemed desperate for help unlike the suicidal man, and aged/died extremely quickly before becoming black goo
- Mads: The cloaked character is Mads, I'm 99% sure of this, as his animations were almost identical to that of the unmasked Mads in Trailer 2.
Here's what I've picked up on so far:
- Each trailer begins with live/death
- Dead crabs in the first two, and the rapidly aging plants in this one
- Focus on feet, as the first human in each trailer has their foot revealed first
- This shows the contrast between the Humans and other Beings, Foot vs. Hand
- The other Beings are actually 4th-dimensional beings (4th dimension is time)
- The Humans (3rd-dimensional beings) cannot see the 4th-dimensional beings
- Beings of a lesser dimension cannot comprehend beings in dimensions higher than them
- The only forms the Humans see are other human-like forms
- The Beings do this so that the Humans could actually comprehend them
- The plants and the trapped-man age rapidly due to exposure to the presence of 4th-dimensional beings
- In the second trailer, WWII era soldiers and tanks can be seen, most likely due to the Beings altering time
- The WWII soldiers are skeletons resurrected by the Beings to do their bidding
- Sam (Reedus) and co. are from a Scientific team named "Porter"
- In real life, the work of "Porter Scientific Inc." concerns environmental protection
- They have technology that detects higher-dimensional beings
- Sam wears grey while the other two wear orange, signifying a different rank
- Sam also wears a dreamcatcher-like object on his back, unlike the other two scientists
- Dreamcatchers are often hung above cribs to protect babies
- The word "Bridges" is on the pant leg of the suits, which is the name of "The United Cities of America"
- In the second trailer, Del Toro has a patch on his suit that says this
- The first bang is the big bang, and the second bang opened a rift between the 3rd and 4th dimension
- The first bang started life, and the second will end it
- This is signified by the dead plant-life, dead sea-life, and the skeletons seen in the second trailer
- The Black liquid is a rift between the 3rd and 4th dimension
- At 3:04, the Being only appears in the 3rd-dimension after the black liquid forms
- Each trailer references umbilical cords, signifying connection/life
- In the first trailer, it shows a cord between Sam and the fetus
- In the second trailer, it shows a cord between Mads and the skeletons
- In the third trailer, it shows a connection between the larger being and the earth(?)
- At 3:25, when the Being comes near Sam, smoke comes from his blood
- Do the Beings radiate a lot of heat?
- The Beings drag away the trapped-man, but leave him after he dies, they want him alive
- The liquid begins to rise, much like the second trailer
- A man appears from the sky
- He makes the same hand motion as Mads did, are they the same?
- Mads appeared in the second trailer after the liquid rose, the same in this one
- He is wearing a gold mask, much like the corpse from 1:23
- Was the corpse one of his men?
- He has the same technology as Sam and co., where did he get it from?
- The Beings attempt to drag the scientists into the ground, to Hell?
- The Beings don't take the scientists when they die, only when they are alive
- One of the Beings that appears to take the second scientist is wearing glasses
- Were they once human?
- Before the scientist can kill himself, Beings alter reality
- Why do they want him alive?
(Sorry I don't continue from here, ran outta space)
First Trailer:
- Dead crabs are seen first, what is killing them?
- The handprints seem more human-sized, and do not seem to have malevolent intent
- Sam is unconscious and naked in the same position as the third trailer
- Sam has a scar of what seems to be a C-Section, he gave birth to the baby(?)
- His body has the handprints he was given while underwater in the third trailer
- He is wearing handcuffs and a necklace, which do not appear in any other trailer
- Handcuffs are opened, he has just escaped from somewhere(?)
- Higher quality images show equations on the dog tags of the necklace
- The equations are the Schwarzschild radius and the Dirac equation
- "The Schwarzschild radius is the radius of the event horizon surrounding a non-rotating black hole." (Thanks Cosmos)
- "Dirac's equation describes how particles like electrons behave when they travel close to the speed of light." (Thanks BBC)
- The equations refer to black holes and the speed of light
- Physicists say that the physics known to us would alter/break down within a black hole
- No known object/matter can travel faster than the speed of light, so traveling at a similar
speed may alter the perception of you surroundings
- The equations could refer to the altering of our reality, much like what the Beings do(?)
- The baby is now outside the incubator, and is connected to Sam w/ a cord
- This may be due to this being an early version of the game, before there was an incubator
- The baby disappears and leaves the black liquid, signifying the Beings taking away life itself
- The original hand-prints in the trailer match the size of Sam's hands, he is like these Beings(?)
- After the baby disappears, smaller handprints appear, signifying that the baby could be like the Beings(?)
- Sam sees the five Beings surrounding the dead marine-life, the one in the middle crossing their arms
- The beings are here to judge humanity for their ignorance to the preservation of life
Second Trailer:
- Dead crabs once more, connecting to the first trailer
- Malformed baby doll appears, missing a leg
- Has the same scar as Sam in the first trailer
- Guillermo appears w/ incubator, moving fast
- Running away from something?
- Has a scar on forehead, brain surgery?
- Wearing the same handcuffs as Sam, did they come from the same place?
- If so, are the fetuses the same? Could they be separate?
- Wearing the "Bridges" patch, definitely connected to Sam and co.
- Planes are flying w/ strands coming out of them
- Planes seem to be from the WWII era
- Del Toro is frightened of them, they are from the Beings(?)
- Upside-down rainbow in the sky, symbolizes an altered reality
- Buildings, bridge, and power lines seem to be from another era, WWII again?
- WWII era tanks appear w/ human bones and larger intestines on them, and WWII skeleton soldiers behind
- Where did the intestines come from?
- Skeletons soldiers have been resurrected by the Beings to fight for them(?)
- As they walk by, black liquid drips down, signifying the presence of the Beings
- Water level begins rising, much like the third trailer
- Why does this happen? Does it signify the Beings are altering the reality?
- Del Toro connects his cord w/ the incubator, and the baby wakes up
- Does the connection help the baby survive?
- They babies eyes are closed, he is in an earlier stage in his development than in the third trailer
- Baby doll appears again, being dragged by a wire
- Is it meant to attract Del Toro?
- Baby's eyes finally open, and it winks
- Del Toro looks down the tunnel, yet does not move
- We now see many dead dolphins around him, which weren't there before, did they drift over here?
- Is this town near the ocean? Is it near where the first trailer took place?
- Blinking red light appears around the baby doll, why? What's on the doll?
- Blinking red light appears at the end of the tunnel, they are connected(?)
- WWII skeleton soldiers appear, led by a more technological human
- Skeletons connected to human w/ cords, does this help humans control them?
- Are they searching for Del Toro and fetus? Did they originally capture them?
- Helmet disappears, revealing Mads
- Can Mads also alter reality?
- Mads has black streaks on his face, has he been infected by the black liquid?
- Mads directs the soldiers forward, and cords disappear as well
- How does he do this? Is he working for the Beings?
- Compass on Mads's vest begins to spin, could this be due to the Mads altering reality?
- Mads looks up to the light, looking pleased
- Is something happening to him that we can't see?
- Baby doll appears on Mads leg, winking like the baby before
- What does the doll symbolize for the fetus?
- Who was dragging the doll?
- Mads looks forward again, smiling
- The black streaks are gone, why?
Please add anything I missed, I definitely didn't get everything :)
(I copy and pasted this from another comment I left)
Sorry for not finishing the notes on the third trailer. I ran outta space. Not kidding, I used up the limit. I guess that means I wrote a lot. Maybe too much. Well, if you have anything to add, please comment down below. Thanks for reading :)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌
Kojima wants to know your location
7:24 among the 5 figures hanging in the air, one could immediately recognize MOM, as she is holding a child in her arms! (the rest of the hands are lowered, hers are raised as if she is holding her child) OMG
Is this what happens when kojima’s beautiful and gathered psyche gets left unchecked?
The BEST game creator is BACK.
"We are homo ludens".
While it's not what I expected when watching these trailers back then, the game was exceedingly good. I know not everyone agrees, and I am feel for those it didn't wow, especially some of the bigger diehard Kojima fans.
待ってましたー!
やっぱりトレーラーだけでも見てて飽きない
前回でた人形と今回の怪我したあしの一致とか腹の傷とか天変地異とか気になりますね。世界観が見えてきそうで見えないのがもどかしい笑
I love how this shows the horrors of the Death Stranding universe. I know Silent Hills was cancelled, but I undoubtedly believe there will be disturbing elements in this game 👣👶🏼
I think that the name of the game, after watching this trailer has been explained: the guys are "stranded" in a loop cycle of death and resurrection, thats why reedus is revived in another place. the naked reedus is probably a past version of the character which is dead inside that dimension, while the other people floating under the water, might be more previous versions
Definitely a masterpiece!!! We didn't expect anything less from Hideo!!!
Normans character name is Sam Porter
RINKU Yes.
I thought Sam was the guy who was stuck under the vehicle? The other guy trying to help him whispers "Sam" before shooting him.
uhh www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Sam%20Porter
My first time playing Death Stranding I snuck past BT's as if I were Solid Snake himself, trying to really live "Inside the world" and I'm gonna be honest, my nerves were on edge a lot, no doubt similar to the Metal Gear games.
Subsequent playthroughs though I would either know in advance what to do OR I would purposefully get dragged into a tar pit, then run away so the threat is nullified and then freely traverse.
Intentional or not, it's great design to put players on edge at first and then make the next experiences more routine.
if this was a movie. it would be greatest hit 2018 and 19 together
