I am Armenian Orthodox, and yes, we do pray for the dead. And yes, we don’t name “it/purgatory”The idea of purgatory makes a lot of sense to me now. Nothing unholy can come into heaven. So it makes sense that we need to be completely purged by Holy fire before entering. 🎉

There is an agreement on a state of final purification at the Last Judgement (1 Cor 3:13-15) but no other teaching for a soul, after death, that is a dogma in the Orthodox Church (only some private revelations). Rome, on the other hand, teaches that purgatory is a dogmatic teaching and if you don't believe in it, you will end up in hell. That is not the belief of the Orthodox Church (or Rome, for the first 1,000 years of its existence prior to the Great Schism).

I have a lot of questions. What about testaments and revaluations people receive outside the Catholic Church, or out of any Christian Church? (I’ve read a lot of testimony’s, I guess you could assume they are all false on discord, but like at least 100 and more considering people.) what about baptism and speaking in tongues in a Christian Church? When did the Catholic Church get its doctrines? (Idk) why doesn’t the Bible talk about much in the Catholic Church about some things that are open to interpretation? Isn’t it only faith of Jesus Christ that will put you into heaven, then seen by your good works? How many people attack the Catholic Church, and how many Christian’s are nice, just regular people? Do Christians go to hell for not doing the sacraments? Okay, I get some claims are false, but I’ve seen some long comments on these videos that make some great points. Dm me to see. I mean, the Roman Catholic teaching from the pope is final, should someone hold that kind of power seen in history and take malpractice for indulgences and corruption? (Took AP euro last year, now not much of that stuff anymore because everyone’s fed and clothed using machines) from my personal experience, my thoughts have been clearer and more positive now with my renewed faith of Jesus, not with the Catholic Church, but with Grace Church. When I was younger, my thoughts were clouded with depression and thinking everything and everyone was bad. Pollution, climate change, I felt shame when I did things that were just my kind of personality of me at the time. Long story short, moved from my abusive Dad, found a friend who inspired me to read the Bible, did it, here I am. Guess you can say there are other factors at play, but I don’t know if this content feeling I get sometimes means something outside the Roman Catholic Church. Not trying to attack, trying to learn.

Such an important point is brought up in this video that the fire is speaking of destruction or consuming that which is evil. This is the whole benefit of the fire, that it can destroy what God doesn't want so that only that which is righteous remains. Many people who believe in taking the Bible 100% literal and not at all symbolic completely miss the point of the fire altogether.

Orthodox Church believes that she has the most glorious way of celebration of the risen Christ, unites the mystical body of Christ in the Church and eschatological community in history.
There are differences between the Catholic Church, but it is important whether these differences are important or not. 1. Filioque. 2. The infallibility of the Pope.
Purgatory is a dogma of the Catholic Church, but the Pythagoreans, and Orphics spoke about the Purgatory before it became a Church dogma.
From an Orthodox point of view, Luther and Calvin are a great tragedy for the Church, as well as schism.
Apparently, the strictness in both the Catholic and the Orthodox Church creates an obstacle for the faithful in terms of communion.
Protestants carry individual religiosity, which comes from Judaism.
It's very important for people to know that idea of the immortality of the soul among Jews was not developed at all. They never had that. Christ presented that to Pharisees.
Neither is the resurrection of the dead. Judaism took that from Christianity.
Catholics have the best organization. The best organized Church that takes care of conciseness, of practicality and takes care of the earthly man. And for me it carries beauty and love.
Obviously a community of baptized believers, united in Jesus Christ, living in community under the leadership of a shepherd/bishop, and at the head of the community is the Roman bishop who presides over the community of truth and love. And leads humanity to the eternal happiness of salvation.
Those would be important reasons for me as someone who is converting from Orthodoxy to Catholicism.
And The Holy See, the See of Rome first had the primacy.
    That is a historical fact.
Also, in 484 anno Domini, Pope Felix III placed anathema on the eastern part of the church, because of confusion about the nature of Christ. And there were a lot of heresies in the eastern part of the Church. East is full of imagination.
In Orthodoxy, there is a lack of organization, but they are definitely working towards fixing it.
Also rigid conditions of fasting, which of course was also the case in the traditional Latin mass.
Many times believers fast to the point of exhaustion and do not receive communion. 😔
    Priests do not prepare homilies.
The Gospel is read, without interpretation.
The liturgy is extremely long.. And I think it is necessary to help people to live the liturgy in everyday life.
And it is forbidden to sit. You have to stand for three and a half hours.
For Orthodox Christians, there is a small judgment immediately after death. And the soul goes either to heaven or to hell.

Purgatory is in between heaven and hell. Like heaven and hell, purgatory has many levels. The lowest level of purgatory is in the border of hell or it is the closest to hell where the most guilty souls are confined. There the souls suffer the most. The highest level of purgatory is in the border of heaven. It is the nearest to heaven. There the souls have the least suffering. I read that level of purgatory has no more fire. The souls' suffering there consists only of no vision of God.

With all due respect to Michael, I've checked with two Orthodox priests, who both confirm the Orthodox Church does not believe in the doctrine of purgatory. Whilst there is no definitive doctrine concerning what happens to the soul immediately after death (only private revelations) they do accept we go through a final purification, at the Last Judgement, as mentioned in 1 Cor 3:13-15. What Michael did not say is that the Orthodox Church objects to the Roman satisfaction model of purgatory itself, which posits that payment is required even after God has forgiven our sins. Within the Orthodox theological paradigm, there is either forgiveness or punishment, not both. I find the title of your video, therefore, misleading.

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial
      @CatholicTruthOfficial  5 днів тому +1

You might recall that Michael said that Orthodox can't even agree with each other which is a huge problem for orthodox. But he clearly showed and quoted people from the Orthodox Church who believe this teaching even though they wouldn't call it purgatory. Even Orthodox admit that they believe this teaching even though they wouldn't call it purgatory and many of misunderstandings about Catholics really believe about purgatory. So if you just ask them hey, do you believe in purgatory? They're going to say no. But if you ask him if they believe in a purification time before heaven, or prayers for the dead, they're going to say yes.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial Perhaps you can help me out here. Purgatory is a doctrine of the Catholic Church so does this mean Catholics are bound to believe in it, or is that just dogmas? Yes, the Orthodox Church believes in a final state of purification at the Last Judgement, as stated in 1 Cor 3:13-15 but regards what exactly happens between our death (and our own particular judgement) and the Last Judgement as a mystery. There have been private revelations but Orthodox are not required to believe in them. The Orthodox Church certainly does not teach that the soul will go to a temporal place of anguish and punishment in this interim period.

    *SCRIPTURE TEACHES THAT PURGATORY EXISTS*
_There are many verses that support the doctrine of purgatory. Here is one of them._
_For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw- each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. (1 Co __3:11__-15)_
In this passage, Paul discusses the Day of Judgment which occurs after death (cf. Heb 9:27). The 'fire' referenced symbolizes purification. Throughout scripture, fire is metaphorically used for purification (cf. Mt 3:2-3,11; Mk 9:49) and as a consuming force (Mt 3:12; 2 Th 1:7-8).
This state cannot be heaven, as the individual carries the defilement of bad works and experiences loss. Neither can it be hell, as Paul states the person 'will be saved.' A post-death state of purification is purgatory.
