I honestly love Primaris tbh. the scale increase and better preportions make them way more poseable than the firstborn kits. but in this vid you bring up an exelent point and my only big issue with them. and thats their lack of uniquness, none of the basic dudes have any charecter to them. just the same bodys with the same helmets and the same guns.
yknow I think overtime, I dont dislike their arms as much? I think its just the weapons, though I have to admit that the sternguard weapons are a significant upgrade. And you're spot on with the posing of the primaris marines. The firstborns all look like they're scrunching up like a tortoise
Y'know, I never thought about doing this. I don't really have much of a problem with Primaris and I do prefer them over the squatmarines, but there's so many Firstborn design motifs that I MUCH prefer - like the helmets and the w i d e n e s s primaris don't seem to often have. Will definitely keep this in mind.
The primaris marine boxsets just lack any character whatsoever. Having 10 marines with the same helmets, Chest designs and legs just irks me. Maximus helmets used to be my favorite but now ALL of them have it over the classic mk 7 and that is just a shame.
You're one of the rare people to point out the lack of wideness, kudos. Shoulder pads just seem a tad too small on primaris. I think the recent heresy marine proportions (not height) are the pinnacle so far.
Weirdly enough this also works in reverse. I've done kitbashing using primaris arms on heresy marine models, although it only works with SOME arms otherwise they look comically huge
Seeing how far you've come in the recent months, it's really nice. You keep making videos, I'll keep coming back. And please -- keep that positive tone. I'm sure that one fine day I eventually will paint my minis.
I find the primaris big guns + modern helmet look a little lame, but the scale increase and proportions are great. My marines are kitbashed to have classic meaty boltguns and cool old heads, I personally love the look (I also shaved off that knee protrusion for squads which aren't meele focused or characters)
i love lore videos they go great with painting, which i dont ever get around to doing, i just 3D print more things to not paint because i am scum. looking forward to them.
I love the kit bashing side of the hobby. I feel like GW has been designing kits in the past few years that are meant to curb bits re-sellers. This trend has made kit bashing a little more difficult. My Blood Angels Sternguard and Vanguard vet squads used bits from several Blood Angels and Space Marine sets. Most of the kits were 7th edition. In my opinion this was the hey day of cross compatibility with Space Marine kits.
ik i remember using the old Assault Marine harness chestplate option to make a pretty snazzy grenade harness for an Imperial Fist veteran charging forward with a power fist. easily the coolest kitbash in my collection which is already heavy on the kitbashes and head swaps.
Thanks for the video, I quite like the combination of new bodies and old arms and weapons, I think I might have to head to the ol bitzbox once again...
I completely agree that primaris proportions are a bit strange I like the height but I think the arms could be shorter and they could be a little chunkier
I don’t mind the primaris scale, I think that look better that way since they’re supposed to be huge godmen. But what I do mind is the fact that the guns, chests, power packs, and so on are all the same. Firstborn kits always had something that made each marine unique and I miss that. Btw, don’t you think that the firstborn power packs are a bit too tiny for primaris?
Personally, I just like the first born packs on primaris for detail sake. I don't think they really look tiny on em but the scale of the primaris packs don't bother me. But like ya said, they have no variation whatsoever so I always just use firstborn c:
Interesting to use the firstborn scale arms on primaris bodies, I saw a few gaps that would be hidden under the shoulder pads. Any advice for keeping that at a minimum? My assembly process for my tac marines (I bought the giant Age of Darkness box, so I have about a million beakies left) is to glue both arms on at once and then attach the weapon afterward, but it looked like you had the whole arm and gun assembly put together and you slipped the body into place. Does that work better?
I actually do the same as you! The gaps really depend on how much detail is on the chest of the primaris marine. some fit really well but you might wanna trim the breast plates a bit for a more snug fit.
Great video, genuinely thought you must have at least a couple dozen thousand subs before I actually looked. Love using 30k parts on 42k marines, looks great. I am curious though, since you're not the first person I've heard say it, what do you mean when you say Primaris look 'generic' ? Like, in comaprison to other franchise's super soldiers or just compared to Firstborn?
Take the tactical marine boxset compared to the primaris intercessor squad. The tactical boxset has infinitely more customization in terms of helms, iconography, weapons, etc. The primaris marines just feel like marines designed to be watered down to be more digestible to a broader audience. Especially as they keep redesigning the weapons to be copy paste, long versions of their predecessors with the unique geometry of the old weapons being stripped away.
@@MishMashPainting Oh fair. I definitely agree that older marines had WAY more customization and uniqueness in their armor and weapons. BUT I do personally think that overall the design aesthetic of Primaris is better, it just needs to be dialed up a few notches to match how crazy the old stuff could get.
I think the best way I can put it, is the primaris marines (with the exception of the black templar minis) feel more like just big guys in power armor rather than big ZEALOTS in power armor.@@TheShadowSythe

@@MishMashPaintingthey're so bland that even one marine with a simple tabard or cloak seems fancy.
@@thehat4244 HA. Painfully true.
@@MishMashPainting Yeah, having to buy the special captains/lieutenants just so my dudes have a bit of design flavour is sad (and expensive lol).
