It was a great time to be a Town fan, sadly as quickly as it happened it went horribly wrong and we've still not properly recovered from that disastrous second season.

Their championship season they came up was crazy, the only team in English football to win promotion with negative goal difference. They won 25 games, 22 of which by a 1 goal margin. Crazy that their first premier league win 3-0 vs Palace was a bigger win than 45 of their matches in the previous season. Also they won promotion from League One and League Two via the play-offs and won both on penalties, with their league one penalty shootout vs Sheff Utd going all the way to the goalkeepers who decided their fate. Always had a soft spot for them, sad to see them collapse, hopefully they'll be back one day.

As an Aussie, always had a soft spot for Huddersfield as Mooy was playing quite well for them. A shame that they failed in the transfer market trying to bring in goals - just goes to show that even a team living the fairytale of promotion to the PL, how important it is to nail your transfer business. The margins between successfully staying up and being relegated (and potentially feeling the repercussions of bad signings for seasons to come) are so severe. Doesn't help that for a lot of these 'surprise' promoted sides, they probably don't have owners or scouting departments with the resources or prestige to attract players - making it even harder to sign proven talent if they have options elsewhere.
Would love to see them back in the PL one day

Great Video as always Vizeh. Take nothing away, it was a great achievement for them to stay up in their first season, but whilst they got the goals when it mattered against teams around them, they were also blessed with the fact Southampton, Swansea, Stoke & West Brom were all in complete turmoil that season, all changing managers so was almost like they were blessed that there were 4 worse teams having their own shitshows that year, and as we all know, that can't be bet on 2 years in a row. Whilst there was a bit of that anyway in the teams around them in the second season, it wasn't as bad as the ones from 17/18. We saw them lose wagner in january and just seem down and out for the rest of the season after and the others were lucky to not finish bottom because Huddersfield were THAT kind of worse team in 18/19, similar to that that kept them up the previous year.

18/19 was hard to watch as a fan but we were unlucky with refereeing decisions and injuries (especially Mooy). We still probably didn’t have enough to stay up anyway though

And at the start of the 16/17 season, loads of Town fans thought they had a chance of going up, maybe they thought it was too much to ask, but they did think, and I think a lot thought that we’d stay up the following season (definitely not the one after, we knew it wouldn’t last…) Also, Wagner was Borussia Dortmund II coach before he managed Town too…

Fun Fact: David Wagner is also one of the reason of Schalke 04's enormous downfall. After the club was hit by a serious financial crisis relating to Covid, the club had a winless streak in the entire second half of 2019/20, but still managed to avoid the relegation, largely due to the numerous draws. However, things got even worse during the first three games of the Bundesliga 2020/21, where they got embarrassed 0-8 by Bayern Munich, 0-4 by Leipzig, and 1-3 by Werder Bremen. He was sacked after this, and Schalke didn't return their good form again with 3 wins, 7 draws, and 24 losses, and had 4 managerial changes in just one season.

Serious lack of research here. A lot of us expected us to stay up in the first season and we did. The 2nd season, although I agree we were the worst side in the division we weren’t actually that bad and dominated matches against teams such as Liverpool and Spurs far more than we did in the first season. Also we’re does this myth come from in the modern age that we were “mainly a 3rd tier club” or whatever your word were “prior to getting into the Premier lge”. That’s just not true. In our 115 year history (minus the war years) we have had 22 seasons in the 3rd tier and just 6 in the 4th tier. In contrast we have spent 32 seasons in the top flight and more than 40 in the 2nd tier.
