As a Bolton fan I feel for Reading. Any rivalries aside this is appalling what is happening. We were so close to losing our club due to the EFL allowing owners like this guy. I said when we had trouble we were the tip of a massive iceberg and that is appalling. Bury and Macclesfield should never have been allowed to happen and I hope Reading get a new owner like ours now. One that cares, one that is open, one who runs the club right and one that is honest with fans. All the best Reading FC me and my son really enjoyed our visit there this season even though we lost. What we didnt do was give up believing, whether that meant physically protesting or boycotting games. If clubs ran as proper businesses, the owner's wealth wouldn't be an issue. That's the absurdity of what fans are allowing. With almost every club I've seen going through this, you go through the social media timeline and you see the same pattern:
      (step 1)
Fans screaming for x,y, z to be bought
When x,y, z don't pan out, then complain than a,b, and c weren't bought instead
Rinse, and back to step 1 until Owner realises they are just losing money to go nowhere so decided to get out.
Then if a New owner comes in, it's back to step 1 until the owner can't find anyone willing to take on such a basket case.
Fans keeping an eye on their club's finances and having the courage to tell the club to stop overspending would do a lot more than any ownership test

The sale of Nelson Abbey and Tom Holmes behind the managers back was heartbreaking. Abbey especially who was bought by Forest via Olympiakos to dodge their ffp issues. Abbey is just 20 and playing for England u19s, he is a beast of a player and captained the club. He is quick, strong, and great distribution and the owner and his sidekick Pang have given him away for a measley 400k.....

Not a reading fan but I am from Berkshire, the only team we have in berks in the efl. Reading was a very convenient away game for me (boro fan) it was a bit of a running joke that there was no atmosphere but clearly there's a reason for it and now I'm more aware of the situation. As a boro fan sometimes there's a lot of frustrations due to lack of spending but our chairman is by far the best in the efl because he is militant about financial fair play. This is starting to get beyond a joke the amount of teams dieing due to bad ownership. It's not just football teams that die, it's part of the towns or cities or in this case a part of an entire county.

People will say United fans are spoilt with wanting the glazers out, but the club would be in this exact same situation if it already wasn't a big club with high revenue, over paying for useless players, insane wages is how you destroy a club like it's happening with Reading... there needs to be something done about terrible ownerships they get off too easily while killing historic clubs

    • @caynehampton1878

Yep, but at least we are not “Doing A Leeds”, even with our high debt, wasting a billion on bad transfers since 2017, and club infrastructure being neglected. It is just that Manchester United have some of the highest standards every year and expect consistent success thanks to the fans and toxic English media and tabloids. There is hope for Man United as Ratcllife is bringing in a new CEO to modernize the club along with a Director of Football, new board members, recruitment staff, and sporting director. Although, the Glazers are still bad owners who care more about making money than being successful on the pitch especially after SAF retired, which pisses off fans who grew up watching the team dominate English and world football, and almost all the fans want them to sell the club fully from the Stretford Enders to global fans like myself. They have been hated from the very beginning with a breakaway club founded after The Glazers bought Man United called FC United of Manchester. Man United will bounce back because of the legacy built by Sir Matt and Sir Alex, large revenue, and fanbase, just like Liverpool did under Klopp.

Viseh one thing not mentioned when talking about the transfers is the relationship with Kia Joorabchian, Dai has taken advice from Joorabchian who isn’t even a registered agent, the likes of Mannone, Aluko, Barrow Baccuna we’re on ridiculous wages Aluko above 30k per week and Liam Moore at the same time in that ball park while the club were having mediocre finishes in the championship. Just awful mismanagement by someone who doesn’t know football working with someone who wants to line his back pockets. I’m a Reading fan and it’s such a shame to see, in the current situation I don’t know how this is sustainable and how the club will survive.

Reading in the League One relegation zone is astonishing
I remember them in the late 2000s in the Premier League and as a top level Championship side
They barely missed Europe and didn’t realize how close they were until now only a final day draw cost them

This is why the Bundesliga is worth looking at as a model: 50 plus 1 percent rule looks pretty good to me. With that model supporters can own their own team. Get some local business support for the 20 to 30 percent not fan owned and it's pretty good sailing. Talking about buying players... would imagine that Reading doesn't have an Academy?

However, this story about Reading really can give us all some appreciation for whatever it is that we are able to enjoy from our clubs because as we can see it can all go south so fast. Best of luck going forward to all you Reading fans and I hope that you will be able to climb up the football pyramid once again

As a Stockport County fan, I've seen my club dragged to the brink of oblivion by a cast of characters that wouldn't even be believable as story book villains. A Rugby club owner who brought us purely to gain a home for Sale Sharks and charged us extortionate rates to play at the stadium we've called home since 1902. A former footballer who made false promises and never ended up buying the club despite committing us to expenses he would never pay off, a Scouse chancer who paraded himself as a saviour on the pitch despite not having two pennies to rub together. Thankfully the supporters trust stabalised us and kept us alive but not before an 11 year drop from the Championship to Conference North. So I completely understand what is going on at Reading and exactly how their fans must feel...hopeless, betrayed, depressed and just generally awful.
However we got our moment we desperately needed, a local multi-millionaire bought the club in 2021 and we haven't looked back since. The club is now as stable as it's ever been and we're doing it in a Madejski-esque way, spending more money on the academy and training facilities to produce our own talent, which just two years later we're reaping the rewards from and improvign the Stadium and matchday experience making pretty much every game a sell-out. I'm sure Reading will have their moment like us, like we ourselves, Bury, Blackpool, Macclesfield, Southampton, Leicester...it may get worse before it gets better but keep the faith that it WILL get better.

It was 05/06, I was 10, just going through school, and my grandad bought me a season ticket for the year, one in which he renewed the year after so I got to see my home club take on the biggest clubs in the world. It’s what made me fall in love with football, and I will always love Reading FC for that, what I see now is the football club I love, being killed before my eyes, it’s heartbreaking.

There was great support from Vale fans. Many joined in with the chants and fully backed the fans on the pitch.
I have great respect for that. People spent good money on tickets and travel and were probably very frustrated. They still decided to support the action instead of booing.
I am definitely picking up Port Vale as a second team now. If the worst happens, and my club ceases to exist, I know where my support will go.

As a wigan fan i know how they feel (during covid season when we went into admin)
All rivalries aside no club deserves to go through this because without that rival club where's the challenge
    Example
If man United went out of business, where's the challenge for city, if I'm making sense
And something else is alot of clubs in the lower leagues are in this situation but because reading are in the efl, the media focus on them more rather than all the clubs as a whole
