The Seer as a whole doesn't get enough love... it's an Epic album in the most epic sense of the word. An adventure novel in song. The last great BC album until THE BUFFALO SKINNERS rose from the ashes.

I have a habit of always playing the last three songs of this album together. Another thoroughly enjoyable review!

Me too! I've always kind of thought about them as one song. It was at the point I was listening to those 3 songs on a loop way back in the eighties that I realized BC was my favourite band.

Oh ... this song. It's been with me from the first time that I heard it. My son's favourite song, by any band; a whole generation after the song was written. One of their masterpieces - thank you again, you bring so much to every reaction. 💙

Hello again Matt from Dunfermline, Happy New Year! You were on the right track with the lyrical meaning. It is a general remembrance and tribute to the young kids who give themselves up for their Country in war, and parts of the song are sung directly from the point of view of one of those young men. Those parts of the song are the only part of the ENTIRE Big Country catalogue where the guitars ARE actually meant to sound ACTUALLY like bagpipes because that part is coming from a SOLDIER! This is a brilliant song, so layered, one of Stuart's real, you said it yourself, MASTERPIECES! 🖤🤍❤

Actually Stuart always thought they sounded like violins. When you play a drone on the G note and play the B note on a guitar then it sounds like Stuart. Listen to Skids songs and he did that a lot. You can take songs as they mean to you but you have said so many wrong things in the past and doing it again now. Is Look Away a bagpipe song, was Eiledon a bagpipe song. I always appreciate fellow fans but you seem to get it so wrong on too many occasions to take you seriously. We can all claim to know the man but we do not interpret his songs and his intentions as badly as you

I can't wait for your reaction to Fridas second album "Shine" - on which Big Countrys members play an important role. Stuart Adamson wrote a song for the album and Mark B. plays drums on the entire album! You will like it!,❤

The one thing I've always hated is when critics said it sounds so much like Big Country.
Of course it does because that is how Stuart wrote songs. It is mind blowing that because it sounds like Big Country it sounds the same. It's just lazy UK journalists that said it. He and the band had and have a unique sound. I love REM but they sounded like any jangly 60s band at the start yet they got the creed yet Big Country were samey. Thats called an identity.
Rant over even though it came from within 😂

The thing about this album that is clear, at least to me anyway is that once again the wrong songs were released as singles. Look Away is a great single so wouldnt change that but i would have had Eiledon, I Walk the Hill and Rememberance Day as my singles. The Red Fox and The Sailor are both great songs which you will enjoy. I would have dropped the Teacher, Hold the Heart and One Great Thing from being released as singles as they dont have the same impact as the songs i mentioned. They are good album tracks but thats it. One Great Thing was intially going to be a B side.
Do really enjoy your reactions and taking time out to do them.

I did say that as you went through the albums that Stuart's voice would come into its own. This album shows how good he was. This is before the mid 90s. You will notice the difference in the next album. Nevertheless let us enjoy this great album

The structure of the song reminds me of traditional (British/Irish/Scottish) folk music, just with a rock treatment.
I do like Big Country but their "bagpipe" guitars are used ALOT , maybe that's their signature sound but i feel they should vary it more.

That sounds like it would be great. I'll have to look into access, and it might need to be on Patreon (or in installments here on YT), but I'll put it on the list for sure.

Lol, sorry, didn't know that's when it was. Probably wouldn't have wanted to wait until this coming November to advance the BC deep-dive, though, considerable patience of the Big Country fans notwithstanding.
