Watching from Germany. Peter's video's changed my view about America: there are still many "normal", very nice people to be found. Completely different from the view you get from the regular media, where I find most people just a bit out of touch with things that really matter. Allen is really a great, great guy: respect.
If you gauge our culture from Hollywood, music videos, commercials or the Democrat/Marxist in this country, you would be surprised how normal we actually are.
@@WayCoolJr27 Y'all really gonna come to a channel that's all about showing how much diversity America has and then try to smear half the country as "Democrat/Marxists"? No self-awareness.
@@WayCoolJr27Haha, I was thinking, so nice to see something about the USA that is NOT about elections. But it popped up again. 😮 Would love to keep this comment section free of references to either dems or reps. 😢 Have a great day though
Unfortunately most conventional media sources exist to further their narrative, and they only show a very curated, narrow view of a culture/country/people. What I have found is that the vast majority of people are just "normal" people, out doing their thing, according to their local customs. In North America, both Canada and the USA, most people, especially rural folk, are very accommodating, friendly, resourceful and generally don't focus on politics. They have their opinions and will share them but it doesn't stop them from having a good conversation. Just don't tell them how to live.
That’s nice and all, but they are lying about us not wanting to work. They are outsourcing jobs to cheap labor while telling lies that we don’t want to work. Maybe be time he’ll interview a Cajun who isn’t a farmer and see how we had to leave the thick rural areas to find work and a home. Because no one in the sticks is selling their land and they are fracturing Cajun culture with their own greed.
Yeah I like him. I have no issue with people like him coming here, not at all. I feel bad for him. How upsetting it must be to do things the right way and see people basically rewarded for doing it the wrong way. Problem is he's been replaced with people that seem to be looking for something...different. Give an inch take a mile kind of thing. Completely overwhelmed us
Very costly to become an American citizen. Had a friend from Mexico take 2 to 3 years processing time and he had to go back to Mexico for 1 year with his American wife and son. He spent over $30k.
Jose does it by the rules. He may have been born with the connections or rose up and maintained his status. He repeatedly pays for the privilege by working hard, making the fees, and pleasing the rule makers. The poor, without the connections or money, even if they can work hard, will be denied the privilege by the coercive rule makers. Most of the rules the farmer complains about are from the same rulers. There's also a little coercive competition control as well.
As a Canadian who suffers the long cold winters, Louisiana and Cajun culture seems like heaven to me. Thank you for these fantastic videos Peter, they are wonderful.
Peter, I’m a counselor at Christian high school. Can I just say, your channel is a literal Sociology class for students (and frankly anyone) in the world. I lead an 11th grade guys small group and I had them watch your video with Titus as you both hitchhiked your way to Nashville so Titus could share the Gospel. This content is genuine, interesting and entertaining. Better than any textbook. You have also given me places to take my family on vacation rather than just a beach or a theme park. God bless you Peter.
I really liked your comment. When I was in the US in 2013, I visited Mississippi and Alabama, with my visa I didn't have time to visit Louisiana. All these places where Peter went and that I visited, I had the same impression. Friendly people, lots of history, rich culture, delicious food, and contact with people telling about their lives and sharing experiences. This had a great value for me.
Hi Peter. (8:06) this lovely woman is my aunt! I’m so proud of her and love her deeply. Apparently this video got their shop some attention! Thank you so much! God bless!
Louisiana, some of my FAVOURITE videos you've done. I'm a Canadian and I lived in New Orleans for 9 years in my young adult life and I'm fascinated by the small rural areas highlighted in these videos. I only really got to see the larger cities and areas. Thanks for making these eye opening videos!
I’m with Jose’s mentality. As a naturalized American coming from a 3rd world country, me and my family sacrificed, worked hard, paid taxes and in return America gave us comfort compared to from where I came from. Proud to be called also as an American.
I just have to say as someone who did it the right way to see the way our country is being destroyed and our people so disrespected is so heartbreaking we need more citizens like you!!!!!!!
Every single person literally I have met out here has been exactly like her. No matter where you go. It’s not just the camera they are putting a show on for. Just met someone at a lake, she invited my kids to play with her kids toys, gave us lots of info and recommendations about the nearby town, and made us feel like we were old family friends. It’s something else, uncomfortable even for someone like me.
That accent is amazing. I've traveled a lot but never experienced something like that. If Money wasn't an issue I would go there tomorrow, wonder what they would know/like to hear about the difference between there and small town Ireland
Man! Was going through a bit of a rough patch in life.. and was sifting through random videos.. You made me fall head over in love with Cajun country!!! What a well made video - I hope to God that I can be there someday.. Add to that, I really really appreciate the hard work that American farmers perform on the field.. Hats off to them - and, God bless you!!
i hate to bring it up but start praying that Bill Gates and all his friends dont' succeed in what they are doing, they are buying up farmland in the US in several states, to try to do automated farming or something like that, probably with not the best of intentions. Not sure if it's true but then it might be. I'm praying not, so that are our hardworking farmers aren't shoved out of business.
Selling everything on a 'world' market has ruined all markets in the world. There is no reason farmers should be forced to sell to brokers and not to locals or even make their own deals. Globalism is killing the small farmer.
I would love to buy more local, but yes, Big Ag makes it hard. Farmers markets are important to frequent, if you're lucky enough to have one around. The best thing to do these days is community gardens, co-ops, or a backyard garden. Few chickens, maybe a goat. Depending on the restrictions for your county. I do have one local farmer I can buy beef from. However, we would need a freezer. They only sell 1/4, 1/2, or whole cows.
Watching from The Netherlands, growing up in small town countryside. You are showing the parts of Amercia and its people we love. Old values, hard work and friendship. Love the videos.
It’s good to see people outside of our country not listening to the media, they make us look bad and people end up hating us just based off what they hear from the media, when in reality it’s just normal people
Louisiana is as stunning as the Appalachian countryside. Everyone basically having the best time of their lives without interrupting people all the time.
@@closer2theheart684I was thinking the same thing too. Us mtn folk would get along just fine with the Cajuns! The bench for the old timers outside the store reminds me of how WNC used to be. Good country folks are the same at their core everywhere
Appalachia series had me thinking is that the new retirement place? The land in a lot of those places is so cheap. I saw on zillow they had like a compound with sick mountain views tucked way back that if you didn't know any better you would not realize there was even a house back there from the road. A garage with insect screen converted to a mancave, a separate garage for all his toys like 4 wheelers etc, a pool and a hot tub in a 3 bedroom 2 bath manufactured home (this was the only downside to me) for like $150,000. I'm a single man with no children about to enter my 40s. To me that sounds like one sweet cheap place to retire to with all the toys you could ever want lol. The only thing is I wouldn't want to be so deep in Appalachia that it's going to take me 20+ minutes to get to the grocery store. I kind of want a hybrid best of both worlds, where I can drive into town that has everything I want but be only like 5-10 mins away or less.
This was filmed 20 miles from where I was born, raised & currently live...my neighbors !!! ❤👏👏👏❤ My deceased husband was a crawfish farmer so this was like watching a part of my former life. Thank you @PeterSantenelo for covering this unique & wonderful area & culture of the USA 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Peter and Erin were so excited to show Mr Santenello something I thought would be a big allegator but it was a beautiful ancient Oak Tree. My sore and sorry heart melted and I felt faith in humanity again. America's future is safe in their hands.
As a fellow farm owner in California it is the same! We send our prayers and love to our southern compatriots and appreciate their strength and dedication.
Watching from Sweden. The older I get, the more I understand the importance of having a social hub in your community like that store with that bench outside where old guys can come to sit and chat. It's a beautiful thing. We also have a crawfish-culture in Sweden where we have this thing called "kräftskiva" which basically is a party where we eat crawfish we've fished ourselves under festive circumstances.
Contrary to what certain political agendas want you to believe, most Americans (especially outside the big cities) are welcoming and respectful to everyone, as long as people are respectful in return and well-intentioned.
Us Americans just want the people that come here to love America and to want to be American. Bring your culture but also embrace ours. Instead of being divided we want to be neighbors but we also don’t want people pouring in and demanding money. That’s what really pisses people off. But if you come here and work hard and add something to our neighborhoods and learn English and fly our flag high then welcome to America brother. Glad to have you.
These are my people. We give SO Much reverence to our women, mothers, & the anchor of our family & community. God Bless Our America. Much gratitude for our Country, for our blessings, and our Heriitage. Peter, you are a Good Man. peace
Peter is a person of the world and it’s what makes this channel really great. We can all take a little something from it, even if that’s just a reminder.
We've been coming down from the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the past few years every August/September to go gator hunting. This part of the country is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime because while the videos and pictures are beautiful, to actually be there in person is on another level. Being isolated in those back bayous and farm land, is almost a state of euphoria and feels like you're on another planet. It's the most peaceful and tranquil place that I have ever experienced and cleanses the soul. The people are the nicest you'll ever meet and the food is the best we've ever had. Can't wait to go back down and spend time where everyone feels like family and takes care of each other no matter the circumstances.
Agreed! Most of america see us as uneducated rednecks. Born and raised in the south and moved up north and so many misconceptions of us. Peter shows what we really are like. Smart humble family people who welcome anyone
I'm from the north but have friends all over. I just love seeing people who are just regular folks. I love this country and Peter catches so much. I appreciate it.
@@SueProvMidwest here, and I agree. I think most people no matter where they’re from are good, honest people who just want to support their families, practice their culture in peace, and get the most happiness they can out of life. It’s a shame this side of America is so often overlooked and overshadowed.
Jose is my favorite person I've ever seen on your channel. I agree, too many people today want to skip the actual work, and skip right to being a manager, boss, or owner. I dont think a lot of people realize how fulfilling taking pride in your work can be, and almost always ends up leading to that position that you wanted to skip to, but you end up being more experienced and more valued
Really without doing the work first, there's no way to ever get into many of those positions unless one is truly wealthy first. These farmers do rely on migrant labor or guestworkers for the majority of field work but most are also working in the field themselves and if they have son's they teach them the work too. In other fields like landscaping or tree trimming, most of the small companies in the majority of California are now owned as well as operated by Mexicans. You get Anglo small owners where you still have many Anglo workers too, -pretty much from the North SF bay area northward or inland in the Valley and eastward.
@@charrua59not really the issue though. The cost of living is a lot lower in most of Louisiana then in most of the US and the area is full of other equally low paying physically demanding jobs worked by American locals, including work on fishing and shrimping (not farmed) boats, service work, construction labor, some jobs in manufacturing and the oil industry (which also includes many high paying blue collar jobs) and even some types of farm work. Just not so much the crayfish harvest, much like with most large dairies or most fruit and vegetable vegetable harvist- the very most most labor intence yet simultaneously skilled and precise types of farm work. Americans often do other work just as physically hard or just as tedious, but relatively few these day seem to be able to do work that is both very strenuous but simultaneously precise, tedious and repetitive for long periods at an adequate pace within agriculture at least. Americans work on feedlots or do other livestock work plenty though, operate machinery and even do manual labor up in the blueberry and cranberry bogs up north.
Definitely agreed, but as the other comment said, I think cost of living is another factor, not the whole reason, but a big factor, the main factor I think is everyone was conditioned to go to college by older generations, they were taught after WWII that it was basically the same as being an adult, prior to that very few people had college degrees. That was the norm, now yeah, everyone wants to jump into that high paying job but somebody has to do manual labor too, not everyone can sit at a desk lol
Im a Louisiana native living up north, years ago i had a flat in indiana. I was on the side of the road, clearly struggling when a car passed me and turned into a drive 200 feet away. I told my niece, "if i was in Louisiana, 3 cars would have stopped to help by now. Just then, a work van full of men pulled up and offered to change my tire. Turned out, they were from Louisiana too! 🖤
I’m not Cajun but Louisiana is my home and this series is amazing! All too often the South gets a bad rap when actually it’s a warm, inviting culture with wonderful traditions. Thank you, Peter for showing how beautiful Louisiana can be ⚜️🐊🦞💜💛
I grew up in NY and moved to rural East Tennessee and I absolutely love it here. My three kids are in the public schools. I work as a nurse. You couldn’t pay us to move back. This place is truly Gods country.
Watching from Quebec, I'm overwhelmed by the lovely spirit of the people! What a beautiful place, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Merci Peter!
I felt this video exemplified the experiences and life of my Francois Dumas and Marguerite Foy family. Coming to New France and living this same way. Francois, a Mason and Iroquoian interpreter was an indentured servant who earned his way into landownership. His wife was a Kings Daughter. I'm still learning of the history. After the Civil War the family moved into Vermont and New England areas. Life there was just as much as it was in New France and as depicted here in Louisianna. I'm certain I have distant relatives on both sides of my family down in that area. One day soon I hope to have it all written down for the rest of the family to see and know.
Making me so homesick! I am a Louisiana girl living in Alabama. They just cannot do crawfish right here. Thank God I married a real Cajun, so we eat well. lol. Glad you enjoyed it.
I recently discovered Peter's channel and I have watched nearly all of his videos and look forward to a new one each week. As a London born and raised woman of Jamaican ethnicity I have loved learning about the different cultures and history of the people that make up America. Peter's videos have allowed me to see and appreciate how beautiful America is 🤗 Keep up the excellent work Mr Santenello, you are doing outstanding work 👍
I have been in and around almost all the states, there are many amazing people, and so much deep history and culture in the U.S. that 5 lifetimes couldn't discover and learn about it all.

I LOVE Louisiana!!! I was stationed at Fort Polk Louisiana for 6 yrs and I Absolutely loved exploring Louisiana. Food is Amazing, People are Genuine and very friendly, Beautiful Lifestyle and History.. Now back in Philly wishing I could move back down
Cajuns share the same joie de vivre as their Acadian cousins. I'm so proud of being of Acadian descent. Thank you so much Peter for featuring these amazing people !!
Thanks for showing country folk. No matter where we're from...... We are all pretty much the same. Hard working, giving people. From the north to the south , from the east to the west. Back bone of AMERICA......Thanks mom n dad.

I'm watching from Wolverhampton West Midlands UK. I love this video as I see a part of America that I might never see in my lifetime. Thank you everyone and God bless you and keep you safe. I would love to see it in real life 🙏🏾🇬🇧
Hey buddy, I just wanted to say thank you. My health isn't doing so well and you help ease my pain. I really really appreciate you and what you do for folks. Much love from a small town in Indiana!!
I have nothing but profound respect for Allen, his family, Jose and his son. They are truly amazing people who live like we all should live. Know our food and how to survive. Peter, you are such an inspiration. I want to close up my shop, leave my humble little homestead and take off with my two dogs and travel all throughout the south. I have been to all other states with the exception of the south and believe it's time!
Born & raised in New Orleans, been all over my state & it's a beautiful place from the lush live oaks, up and down the Mississippi River, the little back road towns, the people, the food, the traditions, festivals, we have a very relaxed culture of people. New Orleans does not define Louisiana, she is a beauty all of her own 💜 I'm pretty confident this series will surpass the Appalachian 🥰
Ah I see my fault, well I’d be happy to call that place home, the freedom, I was in the French Quarter once “of course” for a 311 concert but unfortunately that’s it
As a Swedish person i find this all so fascinating, it's really what alot of us think "the american dream" is. i've seen every episode you've made from the south and cajun people and i've LOVED them all!
Im a french quebecer from Montreal and was visiting the area last year. I actually talked with the lady in the blue shirt handling the boiled crawfish! Got to exchange some words in french with her dad at "Cajun diner" (best Poboys I had by far). Very sweet encounter! I love your videos Peter, they remind me of the way I love to travel, I love your hitting some remote areas I had the chance to discover myself! Merci pour les vidéos en attendant de pouvoir repartir sur la route
hello from France. i enjoy watching your videos ; always edifying and they tend to soften the heart of the watcher. how to not appreciate and love these places and people
These last two videos have been the best work yet at showing true real Cajun culture. To say the guests were the meaning of great American people is an understatement.
I worked with a military unit from the Louisiana National Guard in Iraq and let me tell you that those Louisianans from different origins are very nice and simple people, specially the Cajuns. What so special about them that they're so rich in history and culture.
Adding to my earlier comment. Every time I finish watching one of Peter's videos, I am in a very good mood. The only reason I can think of is that Peter shows the very best of people.
Southern hospitality at its finest especially the lady from the store passionately showing you around the building what a beautiful soul I loved seeing the farm and how they work together on developing solutions for modern day challenges real salt of the earth type of people I wish them all the success with their new business adventures 🤙
Florida FFA kid here, it makes me so happy to see someone taking the time to learn about agriculture first hand, also seeing how passionate these people are about what they do. it's truly amazing thank you Peter
Watching from London UK and I have to say, I honestly adore your videos. It's fantastic how you show such beautiful culture and people which aren't ever shown on American Media. Thank you so much for your fantastic content. Love from the UK
I can’t even express my gratitude for you, Peter. In an age where so many people find differences in other cultures and use it as an excuse to be negative, it is so refreshing to see your videos connecting with people. Showcasing different groups and their living/working conditions is so wonderful and absolutely necessary. Your manner and ability to connect with people should be celebrated. You help recognize that people are just people. Everyone is trying their best to provide for their families, regardless of geography, language or backgrounds.
Again, I must commend you on your videos. No one makes videos like you. You capture the essence of a culture. My wife is Cajun, and we spend much time in that area. We often go to Shuck's in Abbeville, a restaurant I'm sure you saw in your travels in the area. You do not give us a cursory look at the locals, but you give us an in-depth interview. I thank you, and my wife, especially, thanks you. You take her back to her roots with your videos.

Completely overwhelmed us
Immigrants work harder and pay more taxes than the racist Americans that hate on them (and they’re less violent than Americans)
Well… you’ll never believe how Cajuns ended up in Louisiana.
We need less religion in this world
I really liked your comment.
I agree, I love the titus video and many many others.

I’m with Jose’s mentality. As a naturalized American coming from a 3rd world country, me and my family sacrificed, worked hard, paid taxes and in return America gave us comfort compared to from where I came from. Proud to be called also as an American.
Proud to have you as a fellow American my friend.

100%. No one compares.
Thank you, Peter, for helping keep America alive. We need to buy from our hard working farmers. Heart and soul of America. ❤️
i hate to bring it up but start praying that Bill Gates and all his friends dont' succeed in what they are doing, they are buying up farmland in the US in several states, to try to do automated farming or something like that, probably with not the best of intentions. Not sure if it's true but then it might be. I'm praying not, so that are our hardworking farmers aren't shoved out of business.
Yes, but distribution is not possible. That's why the big Tyson Food etc industries are what they are controlling the supply chain.
Especially if It’s Not Genetic Modification Food

It’s good to see people outside of our country not listening to the media, they make us look bad and people end up hating us just based off what they hear from the media, when in reality it’s just normal people

It's great to see my fellow Mexicans being welcomed by amazing Americans, coexisting. United we stand, divided we fall.
Doors should swing both ways if we can go into Mexico or Meso-America rather. Then that’s the way it should be.
All are welcome if you hear with good intentions and you confirm to the American way. Just like Jose said.

Please leave them Maryland voting habits in Maryland.
As a Southerner, I could never thank you enough Peter for what you do. You show us for who we really are.

@@SueProvMidwest here, and I agree. Jose’s outlook on America was absolutely beautiful! What a dude
Merci Beaucoup for showing Cajun people authentically and for treating our culture/home with such respect. ❤ Come back anytime Cher!
@baltzy24 Agreed!
Cause cost of living is high in the USA and this people don't pay much
Really without doing the work first, there's no way to ever get into many of those positions unless one is truly wealthy first.
This is what America is all about. Real people, real community, and lots of love & respect. Another great video Peter!

I really appreciate your videos, Peter. No nonsense, you treat the people with respect and provide a true inside look at life in other areas our our country, as well as the world.
This is my hometown! I grew up 1 mile from that country store and have to say it warms my heart that you’re sharing my old stomping grounds with the world. The way of life, the food, and the people here are like no other ❤️ So much has changed since hurricane Rita but we are resilient
This is exactly where I’m from! It doesn’t get more Cajun than Vermilion Parish! Growing up here, I always felt it was something special and I always wanted to share it with people. Thank you for coming down here and making these videos and showing our Cajun culture to the rest of the world.
I come from Germany, so seeing this side of the USA is really interesting!
I had to look it up:"United States is approximately 9,833,517 sq km, while Germany is approximately 357,022 sq km" The U.S. is so big.
@@Roberto-de8xv yes that's true
It looks like Nebraska with those big fields and kinda Iowa
@@Roberto-de8xv the USA are everyday in our media and ther picture of americans are full of stereoptyes, there are just Trumpfans - which are shown as idiots - and the new woke people, who are the heroes of our journalists. it's a pitty we don't see the "real" people anymore
I used to live in Baton Rouge. It's nothing like the culture less California cities and other Democrat states and cities.
Once again a great unfiltered look at America! Thank you Peter
We are not as divided as the media and politicians like to perpetuate.
I mean anything in Democrat cities and states are complete sh!tshow.
Thank you Peter, again, from Britain.
I loved your videos from other side of the world, the US city videos during the lockdowns and I love your American countryside videos.
You always show the best in people.👏🙏🥰
Peter, I’ve been to Louisiana three years in a row and you are right. You can show it in your video. You cannot express it, you have to live it. Go visit other parts of LA. Every parish or city has so much history and culture. It’s beautiful and needs to be preserved❤
Louisiana is really unique. Beautiful culture, beautiful people and certainly has one of the best foods in America. Thank you for the tour, Peter. The Louisiana series is among your best.
Peter, living in Portland OR, you’ve encouraged me to find common ground and dialogue with my neighbors, and I’m finding we still have a lot in common. Even in this crazy place
Keep doing the good work my man
Breakfast bagel, iced coffee, + Peter's AMAZING videos = HAPPY SATURDAY. Hi from Socal!
FCK YOUR STARBUCKS. TRUMP 2024 🎉
peter, I'm watching you from France and you really show the best side of the United States and its population, mainly those in the rural areas that make America live. you really make me want to go and meet these people. keep going!
Every place that is Republican has great people and every place that is Democrat-run sucks.
one of the few UA-cam channels I start an almost hour long video and won't get bored halfway through.
Im watching from Australia. Again thank you Peter, This episode was totally fascinating as was the Appalachian mountains. Watching this gives me hope that America can survive what is coming. These people are down to earth good solid people who help each other and have compassion. City folk are spoilt and dont know what a good days work is, I grew up on a dairy farm and we started at 7am and finished at 10pm, You didnt complain. You just did. BTW we call them prawns
Thank you so much for showing this beautiful tiny spot in our country! Louisiana is truly a special place with so many different cultures.
Beware of the Yellow King. Carcosa
I live in Nova Scotia and am so happy I came across this video. Never knew that the Acadians went that far south. Another place to go on my bucket list.
Thanks Peter, always great videos and stories.
