Everyone here that hates this bike loves the Speed Twin. So go buy a Speedy and let the rest of us love this ultra capable bike on and OFF road while you ride to the pub.
Just come back from a Triumph dealer and fell in love with this bike. I’m 6ft 5 and this is a great bike for us taller people. Now just need to decide which colour!
Hello Mr. Laverick ! very interesting what you've said about being 6ft 5 ! me too ! well, did you get one ??? how does it feel on long rides ? did you try it off road ? please tell me !
@@eyalcr500 Had one for over a year and done c3,000 miles. The only bit that gets sore on a long journey is my backside but that could be age! Not been off road yet as not that skilled but I love the bike and will start to tour on it next year.
I picked mine up last Saturday and I could not be happier with it! The white and green is beautiful, the fit and finish is amazing and the ride/power is Awesome! I’m already preparing to schedule my first service (500 mile break-in)! Lastly, seated on the bike, my feet sit completely flat. The bike was built for me! 😁
Personally I prefer the rectangle-type screens... the whole point is to see the information and I find the TFT on this to be too small to be easily read.
Just thought of a new strap line for your T-shirt’s and sweat shirts. “I’m only 5ft 8 with a 32 inch in seam” Brilliant, commission greatly accepted 😂🏍👍. Great job sir, keep up the good work.
Bizarrely found myself whence watching this brilliant test ride - with dialogue, that I became consciously observing the road ahead & checking into the mirrors for the view behind 🤪 Brilliant audio & review ~
Thank you for another great review sir. I recently purchased a 2022 Scrambler with the mat green finish. It’s a great bike for the road and also some dirt / gravel roads in Pennsylvania. It’s also a great looking bike, twice so far I found people standing around it, starring.
Love your reviews and vlogs TMF, returning to riding at 60 after a 15 year break (Tracer 900GT), great to have resources such as this to inspire and educate, keep up the good work.
Love your reviews. Would really appreciate some reviews of older bikes (2,000 onwards) as a lot of your audience (me for example) cannot afford a new bike, but would like your unique take on some used machines....
I've been shopping for an ADV bike and decided to take a look at the Tiger 900. The dealer has one of these (a 2019 XE "showcase") on discount and I couldn't resist (it's just so freaking gorgeous!). I know it's not an ideal tourer but damn, at least I'll look good while I'm uncomfortable on those long rides! 😂.
Thanks TMF, a nice thorough “thoughts” review as usual, I love the look of this new Scrambler so much more than the one it replaces and with much improved performance to boot! Here in Australia the XE will retail for $21,700 plus on road costs , so more than $23,000 AUD. Phew.. that’s really getting up there for a naked.. thanks for your excellent work! PaulB 👍🏻🇦🇺
Great review as usual and I love this bike. I had a sit on the demo (test ride to follow when I get a chance) in my local Triumph dealership the other day and it looked absolutely superb. However, I've always been a fan of the street scrambler (especially the new updated version) and watching your review did make me wonder whether a retro scrambler really needs to be 1200cc and nearly £13k. Very few people are going to take one of these off road and the lack of wind protection makes it unsuitable for long distance high speed stuff. I can't help feeling that the street scrambler will do everything most people will want of this type of bike at a lot less cost and in a more manageable size. I agree with you about the TFT screen. I think they're a bit of a fad. My bike has two nice big clear dials as well as a small digital fuel gauge, gear indicator and clock. This is all I need. Fiddling with a TFT screen on the move, with a dial, joystick or whatever is just a distraction. Any plans to review the new street scrambler?
One commenter stated he was newly returned to biking at the tender age of 60. Instead of replying to him personally l thought l might say something to a wider audience. In the April 2016 edition of M/C, Sport and Leisure letters page, a certain Maureen Willis, a biker chick (of a certain age as they say) from Abergele, North Wales, wrote under the heading- “KEEP ON BIKING”- “...Our hobbies included rock climbing, exploring, adventuring and, most of all, motorcycling and we have had a great life together. To all bikers l say “Keep on biking as long as you possibly can”. I am so sorry for anyone who, at their partner’s insistence, gives up motorcycling.” These are wise words and if Maureen ever reads this, l say, “Go, Girl!”
I’m only 57, not quite in my 60s yet, and I never gave up. I go offroad on my 1290SA at least once a week...proper offroad, it’s surprisingly capable and I hit my limits before it does. Lots of pavement covered too. Moto camping 4-6 times a year, often for several weeks, last year one 4 month trip. Mind you...I am divorced!
You're a nice man mr Flyer! Rear brake from rubbish to adequate in 50 meters! :-) I can undestand you have to be careful with words in these forums, so careful that someone gets annoyed. Not easy, is it... :-) You're doing a good job! :-)

Thankyou for the honest and insightful review, you answered the majority of the questions i had after recently seeing the bike. I do hope your soon to test the 2019 Triumph street twin.
Yes I might have to get me a go on one of those - I found the original a bit "meh" so haven't gone out of my way to get a ride on one....perhaps I should.
I have a Street Twin which I absolutely love. Being that tall sort of person, if I were to sell my ST, it would be for one of these. Great review as always.
Thanks for the review TMF. I agree about the TFT. But even a dream bike will always have something we don't like. This bike solves all my annoyances with the street scrambler, suspension adjust-ability, bash plate, etc. You've helped me in my resolve to buy the xc version.

Great review. Eased my mind a bunch as I'm buying one without seeing it. Glad you said you're 5'8'', I'm 5'10''. Everyone says I'm too short! Also, last review I watched, guy said, "if you're looking for a "PLUSH" ride, this isn't it". You used the same word and said it is! So funny...good ride, good review. I'm getting one.
Gorgeous. Too bad I'm too cheap. I'd go buy a used, low mileage, air cooled Scrammy already farkled & take the money I saved and go on a loooong adventure. Thanks for the review.
Makes me smile when you describe yourself as "short" with an inseam of 32in - my inseam is 29in so my choices are far more limited, unfortunately - very much enjoy your reviews and all your videos though - so thank you.

its lovely of course but why are scramblers getting so big cc wise ? i reckon a 5 or 6oo woyld suit the retro scrambler genre better...although most of my bikes were 1.0 ltr or above they are all tourers...a nice 600 would be great harking back to the xts xps and xls ....(suppose they were enduros) oh im just old and bitter !! peace and love brother..👍🏻☮❤
Yeah I agree too - I think this is more of a trinket bike than a serious off-roading tool (I'm sure it's capable, in fact know it is, but most owners will be using these for Sunday fun to the coffee shop I reckon....)
I agree. What has happened to the 600. We could have a versey's 600 v-strom 600. Cb600x. Mt-06. 600 tenere f600gs. I think all these would be better than what we have. And in the uk be £56 ved

The seat is a little hard after a couple of hours and it definitely wants the clocks from the Thruxton and the joy stick is to close to indicator switch i've hit the indicator switch a couple of times by mistake but all in all its lovely bike ,i'm very pleased with mine
Another fantastic review thanks for sharing . I bought the same bike last month its absolutely superb ,also added the numbers on the side and front, had to be done 😁 Oh and added the high front mudguard. Regards Dave from Scotland
This is the first review that I can remember where you start out with a dirty bike :-) You are so right great stance and look to it, makes it very desirable to the eye :-)
In Australia you'd definitely buy this to go down.'asphalt' and dirt/gravel roads. Personally I think it's too big and heavy to qualify as a scrambler. I'd opt for the more manageable 900 or Beema Urban GS.
A very nice review and I agree that the bike has everything. I'm 5"8" and I struggled putting the side stand up whilst sitting on the XE. I am amazed how your feet touched the road on both side. I was on tippy toes! Maybe the XC is more for me?
I will pick up mine next Saturday, 2nd handen 20,000 km on it in blue. I am tall and its freaking comfortabke. I had a desert sled before also good for tall people and also beautiful design. But this 1200xe has just a little bit more power which I like. The wide bars makes it really fun to drive....
your right and i do but not with the tyres it comes with as they are more road tyres than off-road and yes and I love it to bits one of the best bikes I have ever bought as an ex motor cross rider and enduro.
Great review many thanks, I will be placing my order now of the back of it. Just to clarify heated grips are standard on the XE. Thanks again keep up the good work.
Good initial review as usual. Can't imagine anyone going off road with this, let alone scrambling. Just another weekend Chelsea tractor, which is fine with me.
Fantastic review. I absolutely love the look of this, that iconic scrambler styling but with modern day electronics. I do agree about the twin chrome dials though, would have suited the bike a lot more than the TFT screen. Top stuff as always sir!
im a massive triumph fan had 4 so popped along to my local triumph dealer for the launch of the new scrambler like it but it looks slightly miss shaped but would not be a deal breaker
That TFT looks a bit small to me and my middle-aged eyes. Also looks a bit susceptible to visibility issues in bright sunlight. And if I were to take the Scrambler off road, I'd probably look into getting some guards for it for stones/branches/etc like a radiator guard at least. I do like that it comes with lower fork guards.
I own a Street Scrambler. One of my most favourite bikes of all time. Although the Scrambler 1200 is the superior bike, it has something on it, that i don´t like. But i am not sure. Perhabs it is the more modern touch. I guess, i need to do a test ride. Thank you for the review!
Fantastic Review TMF again. Love your small insights on the bike. Just one question and i am sorry if i have missed it in the review - Why haven't they included a center stand; is it because of the high ground clearance or is it an option?
Thank you for posting. Sweet looking bike. Any plans to do a long term review (maybe I missed it, if you mentioned it in your video)? A small/medium sized windscreen (smoked/tinted) would do wonders. Maybe aftermarket.
A lovely looking bike, very much in keeping with my taste also and like you I prefer old style instrumentation. My only criticism is perhaps that the pipes look a wee bit clunky.
Absolutely lovely bike! I wouldn't even call it classic, more like timeless. It's what a bike should look like, in my book. But I've got another question (that I realise you might've address in one of your vids), but what is the microphone placement in your helmet? Do you run it right in front of your mouth or on an angle to the side? And is it just a common lav mic or a bike-oriented communications mic? Cheers.
Nice one....that's the review I was waiting for, good to hear it's not the huge monster some reviewers say it is. I happen to be the same hight as yourself so I trust in your judgement....I think you've made me mind up for us and I'll be trading the superduke in the spring after all!
TheMissendenFlyer ...Definately, but on the Isle of Wight, just don’t get to use the power or get out of fourth gear for that matter! The 690 enduro is ideal, but I still like to do the odd tour with the Mrs.....But I think I’ll need to take a test drive on the Scrambler and the Speed Twin before the final trade in...but the scrambler is the favorite on paper....Still overseas until April, so just have to carry on watching reviews!!....So keep em coming.....Cheers Mucka!
Hey TMF I love your videos! Got a weird question, what is your garage floor material? I’m ‘man caving’ the garage and wondered what you use? Looks heard wearing and easy to clean!
Nice! A couple of questions. You mentioned touring but would it be easy to set up with panniers etc (For a rider too short for a GS for example). Secondly what are your thoughts on steal-ability of keyless bikes? (Certainly for certain keyless cars such as the Mustang it seems very easy as the thieves just need to be in range of your key to be able to scan it and then drive away).
I looove this bike. And so keen to get one. But the wind and weather protection does concern me. I currently have a 800GS and I do a lot of long distance road trips. So question...how much would the additional screen that one can fit to the bike make a difference to wind and rain?
That's a proper gorgeous bike. Definitely the best of the Bonneville range for a tall chap like me. Saw one of these bikes crashed parked in the Triumph factory (crashed by a journalist on launch!) They said it was heading for the crusher 😨 Top tip for manufacturers: Fit the most comfortable seat you can make as standard 👍
@@chrisredfield3240 That's my point, it's a racket all the manufacturers are guilty of, sell you a nice bike but make the seat uncomfortable to extract more cash. Owners across the country have a bike and a spare seat sitting in the garage.
Andy - how would you compare your 1200 Gs to riding this Scram 1200 XE? Am considering swapping my GS to this bike and wondered what you thought of the two a a comparison. FYI, I don't carry pillions nor tour too much anymore. Thoughts?
Nice review TMF, I've been waiting for your thoughts on this bike. I've had a test ride and agree with what you say, but I am hanging on until I've had a ride on the XC just to be sure. If I get the XE those gold forks would have to be blacked, and a small screen to tidy up the front of the TFT. All part of personalizing your bike! Cheers Steve
Another good review there TMF. I rode one from Destination Triumph in Guildford about 10 days ago and really enjoyed it. What I thought you'd comment on more is how torquey the engine is - it is a total meathead of an engine. I too rode down to my test ride on a GS 1200 and I had to check the torque figs afterwards. GS makes 90 lb/ft but at 5900 rpm. The Scrambler 1200 makes 80 lb/ft but at 3900 rpm as you pointed out. It really makes a difference on the road. I thought I would find the Scrambler a bit dull due to its low-revving nature but it really flings you down the road so it feels pretty fast even though it actually isn't a crazy fast bike. Of course it is probably 25kg lighter fully fuelled as well. Other notes - I felt there was too much dive in the forks but I could probably stiffen them up a bit and I daresay I am carrying a bit more poundage than your good self. TFT has good visibility. Didn't check the settings, just rode the knackers off it in sport mode. Gearbox is very sweet, much better than GS. Fit and finish, absolutely excellent.
Bike hunting at present, but there's a few things amiss....like a bigger tank(Moto Guzzi V85TT 23 litres or the BMW Urban GS),cruise to get to the mountains, for that prices, and a down and up exhaust option as not to burn the Mosko bags and take the heat away....some things a can make, tank is the downer! Typical Triumph, never quite getting it right!
Another useful review, I was dribbling over one a couple of weeks ago in my local Triumph dealership (Norfolk Triumph) when I took my explorer in for service/mot, unfortunately the XE may not suit me as only 5ft 6 tall but would have a go with a test ride as I agree looks the better of the two. Ride safe. Gary
Cheers TMF. I jumped on one of these yesterday & at 6’4” I felt quite comfortable. Love the paint scheme, just wondering how that exhaust would be during our long hot summers here in Australia though. Certainly got me thinking about making some more room in the garage.
They've done a nice job on the design in that the pipe is nicely placed out of the way of your leg - I don't think heat from it would be an issue....but then I am in chilly ol Blighty....
I'm not so familiar with Enduro s or in Triumph s case, scramblers. But do you think a 1200 is a bit large for an off road ride? Was just wondering. Reminds me of people here in the states buying a pick-up truck with extended high suspension, but never going in the dirt. Seems a 900 would be just fine, if off road riding was a highly used feature. When I was a little younger man, I thought an Enduro was the coolest thing. Being able to run off or on road. But never thought of a 1200 for that. I just have a 2005 t100, now, but I like the height of the scramblers. Sounds good though. Thanks again.

@@chrisredfield3240 Yeah totally , the old tiger started around 850 ish cc which was plenty huge ..then it got to 895 then 955 then 1050 then 1200 what next a 1400 tiger ? ok i admit theres an 800 tiger now but you know where im coming from...i have an old vstrom 2003 dl1000 its way big enough for touring two up fully loaded...in fact i had a dl650 a few years back and it was capable enough just a bit on its limits with all my luggage and pillion...but its a tourer /adventure...surely a scrambler is about fun and scrambling? no need for a 1200 lump...and to be honest and agree with you totally ,of the 45 bikes ive owned(i am very old) the one i kept longest (7 years) was a year 2000 600 bandit s...
it was capable of everything ..well i never took it off road but everything i needed...
so yes , indeed Chris I agree 👍🏻☮❤
The seat is a little hard after a couple of hours and it definitely wants the clocks from the Thruxton and the joy stick is to close to indicator switch i've hit the indicator switch a couple of times by mistake but all in all its lovely bike ,i'm very pleased with mine
Yes I had the same issue with the joystick, wish I’d mentioned it...
Another good review TMF, I do like it but I agree with what you have said before, it would be nice to see more different modern bikes from triumph
Looks fantastic! Great review as always.
Thank you....
Another fantastic review thanks for sharing .
I bought the same bike last month its absolutely superb
,also added the numbers on the side and front, had to be done 😁
Oh and added the high front mudguard.
Regards
Dave from Scotland
This is the first review that I can remember where you start out with a dirty bike :-) You are so right great stance and look to it, makes it very desirable to the eye :-)
In Australia you'd definitely buy this to go down.'asphalt' and dirt/gravel roads. Personally I think it's too big and heavy to qualify as a scrambler. I'd opt for the more manageable 900 or Beema Urban GS.
I really love this British motorcycle ❤ 🇬🇧
Nice bike triumph is really stepping up there game .. I'm on my second triumph and will most likely buy another one ... Good review
Thank you Davyboy! I'm with you on that (on both counts)....
A very nice review and I agree that the bike has everything. I'm 5"8" and I struggled putting the side stand up whilst sitting on the XE. I am amazed how your feet touched the road on both side. I was on tippy toes! Maybe the XC is more for me?
Agreed - my reviews on the XC coming soon!
Good review as ever TMF, great looking bike, love the paint scheme and tft display.
Beautiful bike and, as usual, a great review.
Great looking scrambler, like something a rider could actually "scramble" on!
your right and i do but not with the tyres it comes with as they are more road tyres than off-road and yes and I love it to bits one of the best bikes I have ever bought as an ex motor cross rider and enduro.
Great review many thanks, I will be placing my order now of the back of it. Just to clarify heated grips are standard on the XE. Thanks again keep up the good work.
Yes my bad....apologies....
Good initial review as usual. Can't imagine anyone going off road with this, let alone scrambling. Just another weekend Chelsea tractor, which is fine with me.
Me too!
Mate so I’ve got the XC and I love it. Did do an aftermarket pipe and seat plus engine bars. I’m 6:3 and prefer the road version.
passed my ol primary school to the left, the woods, great bike too...
Great 1st review, it has done well on Baja , Mexico and some others, let’s see you review it on/off road as it was designed to do👌😊
Fantastic review. I absolutely love the look of this, that iconic scrambler styling but with modern day electronics. I do agree about the twin chrome dials though, would have suited the bike a lot more than the TFT screen. Top stuff as always sir!
Thank you sir!
im a massive triumph fan had 4 so popped along to my local triumph dealer for the launch of the new scrambler like it but it looks slightly miss shaped but would not be a deal breaker
I agree. I've seen this model standing next to the new street scrambler and I thought the street scrambler had the better looks.
Another very good review 👍 I’m not sure I know this dealer. I’ve always gone to Woburn Triumph.
Great review (in the usual way..) just wondering - given your love of the scrambler genre, what made you choose the Speed Twin over the Scrambler XE?
I found the Scrambler just a bit too big for me (loads coming on the XC soon)....
Yes I agree, the TFT is very poor
I own a Street Scrambler. One of my most favourite bikes of all time. Although the Scrambler 1200 is the superior bike, it has something on it, that i don´t like. But i am not sure. Perhabs it is the more modern touch. I guess, i need to do a test ride. Thank you for the review!
Yes I do think old school clocks would have been better than the new TFT (although I get all the features and functions it offers)....
Nice review TMF. What's that strapped to your right thumb then?
That's my visorcat amzn.to/2HuCdWd
@@TheMissendenFlyer holy smokes, I was looking for something like that! Brilliant idea! Maybe you should do a review TMF, tell us what you think of it
Like the look of the bike, think the tft is a nice upgrade from the 1st gen. The villages and scenery were equally as pretty.
Excellent review. Been waiting for this one. Definitely got to own one , before I kick the bucket. Lovely bike 👍
Fantastic Review TMF again. Love your small insights on the bike. Just one question and i am sorry if i have missed it in the review - Why haven't they included a center stand; is it because of the high ground clearance or is it an option?
Good question!
Thank you for posting. Sweet looking bike. Any plans to do a long term review (maybe I missed it, if you mentioned it in your video)? A small/medium sized windscreen (smoked/tinted) would do wonders. Maybe aftermarket.
...I have a long term XC lined up for later in the Summer....
Perfect. Looking forward to it.@@TheMissendenFlyer
A lovely looking bike, very much in keeping with my taste also and like you I prefer old style instrumentation. My only criticism is perhaps that the pipes look a wee bit clunky.
The pipes on these are the best part
Absolutely lovely bike! I wouldn't even call it classic, more like timeless. It's what a bike should look like, in my book. But I've got another question (that I realise you might've address in one of your vids), but what is the microphone placement in your helmet? Do you run it right in front of your mouth or on an angle to the side? And is it just a common lav mic or a bike-oriented communications mic? Cheers.
Common lav mike, right in front of mouth....and yes, there is a video on it...
@@TheMissendenFlyer Roger that. Will try and locate said vid ;)
Nice review and a lovely bike. Not a huge fan of tank straps, they're an unnecessary cleaning evil I'd gladly do without. Top stuff, thanks again.
Good point Colin!
Nice one....that's the review I was waiting for, good to hear it's not the huge monster some reviewers say it is. I happen to be the same hight as yourself so I trust in your judgement....I think you've made me mind up for us and I'll be trading the superduke in the spring after all!
Quite different to the Superduke but just as lovely (if not lovelier!).....
Another great review, ty sir!
Hey TMF I love your videos! Got a weird question, what is your garage floor material? I’m ‘man caving’ the garage and wondered what you use? Looks heard wearing and easy to clean!
Yes it's good stuff - bought it on a roll from Costco, heavy duty garage flooring, highly recommended!
You're an analog guy in a digital world. Me too. With analog you look and you know. With digital you have to process the meaning of the numbers.
PLEASE can you review the new honda cub tmf
Hi TMF
Did you find the heat from the exhaust unbearable against you leg.
Not unbearable no.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Would it be a deal braker for you.
Well the insurance premiums are higher on keyless - that tells me all I need to know!
I seriously love the looks of that. Sounds like it was a good one too. As a Triumph owner, that is a good thing. Go Triumph go!
Yeah I agree - and thanks for joining the livestream yesterday - I spotted you on there!
Heated grips eh, what about the right leg heaters?
Actually I had no issue - the exhausts are very cleverly tucked out of the way....
I looove this bike. And so keen to get one. But the wind and weather protection does concern me. I currently have a 800GS and I do a lot of long distance road trips. So question...how much would the additional screen that one can fit to the bike make a difference to wind and rain?
Can’t imagine that much can you?
Any chance of an XC comparison ride review?
I'm a new subscriber, and I really enjoy your commentary. Thumbs up!
Yep - coming later in the year (as Triumph are going to lend me one for a few weeks for an in depth look)....
That's a proper gorgeous bike. Definitely the best of the Bonneville range for a tall chap like me. Saw one of these bikes crashed parked in the Triumph factory (crashed by a journalist on launch!) They said it was heading for the crusher 😨
Top tip for manufacturers: Fit the most comfortable seat you can make as standard 👍
Oh dear!
But then how many comfort seats would they sell ?
@@chrisredfield3240 That's my point, it's a racket all the manufacturers are guilty of, sell you a nice bike but make the seat uncomfortable to extract more cash. Owners across the country have a bike and a spare seat sitting in the garage.
People keep saying “oh it’s a great bike for us taller folk” I ride a DR650 with a taller seat height then this, and I’m 5ft 9😂
@@martyn_g I can ride a monkey bike at 6ft 3 but it doesn't suit me and I'm cramped.
“I’m going to be yearning for the old steam gauges!” haha
Like'd that'un too chortle X-D !!!
Well done review!
Thanks Pate - good to hear from you again!
Good morning TMF, Nice bike and thank you for the review, Take Care 👍😎🇬🇧.
The only time I have been off road was by accident. 🤓
I’m 5”9 and a 32 inseam so do you think this model would be too tall for me or should I go for the XC?
Go for the XC (or platform boots)
Like the tallness of it and the sound is good. Don't know if I'd trade my 1100 Ducati Scrambler though, nice to have such tough choices. 😊
The 1100 Scrambler is a very nice machine and overlooked in the marketplace - at least here in the States.
Andy - how would you compare your 1200 Gs to riding this Scram 1200 XE? Am considering swapping my GS to this bike and wondered what you thought of the two a a comparison. FYI, I don't carry pillions nor tour too much anymore. Thoughts?
Too many differences to list Peter, completely different rides. Both great though!
A true Scrambler, with the ability to customize almost unlimited, great for traveling, by far better than an AT, whether on the road or out of it!
Yes the front of that TFT does need tidying up doesn't it....
Yes nice bit of kit isn’t it!
Maybe Triumph is missing a trick by not offering twin dials as an option!!!
Agree. Would look better and more authentic with twin dials, you could still have all the features just a better aesthetic
Definitely!
Not wrong there!!!
Triumph, for the love of God bring back the matte green paint job on this thing.
Yuk....!!
Very good review tmf thanks danny
Thanks for watching!
Great video "in the usual way". Not that I can afford anything, but a 600 would get my willy trembling. Cheers.
