Wow I love seeing the full process of propping a wet stick/node! Please keep filming the obliqua's progress cause I'd love to see another update vid about it!!!
Glad you had success with your dream plant. Like I said I do not have alot of knowledge about plants I am so new to the plant world, but I enjoy watching your videos and I am learning some.
My goodness I didn’t know that Monstera obliqua takes so long to propagate!!!!!!! I’ve got some just in water at the moment in a propagator, build for the job, and so I’m going to have to set the stems up for propagation with sphagnum moss and see if this works out for me. I’ll let you know. Thank you so much for your video and I’m hoping for great results. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤
Hi 👋 I love this idea and you did an amazing job. ☺️ Since you said you were not an orchid expert and you give so much to us, I wanted to give back to you and share a few tips. Growers start orchids in plugs, if the orchid is not sold the 1st season it is up-poted to a bigger pot with new media - however the plug is left intact. By the time you buy the orchid at a store it may have been in that plug for a few years. Like any other media that an orchid is grown in (moss, bark ECT) the plug will start to sour/decompose which lowers the pH causing a bacteria breeding ground. Additionally the plug is usually filled with rotten roots. It's best to gently remove the plug and any dead papery roots that are not beneficial to the plant and will most likely cause a problem for your orchid in it's new home. As mentioned above the media that orchids grow in such as bark and moss, naturally decompose overtime which then compacts. So not only does it lower the pH creating that bacteria breeding ground, but will close off the air flow to the roots. For the healthiest orchids the media should be replaced at the very least Once a year. 😎
Hey! I had a very similar situation with my obliqua! I got it at the beginning of March as well. It arrived from Portland, OR to me (Seattle) in a small cup with moss around the stick with just ONE tiny little node. I decided to keep it in the original moss and just kept it warm and in my humidified cabinet. I misted it regularly to keep it and the moss moist. Like you, mine took forever to get its first leaf. By early May I actually had a second leaf and decided to transfer it to a leca base. Fast forward to today 7/20, I now have three leaves!! Only odd thing is that I have a long segment of the original "stick" popping up above the leca. I am a little too paranoid to just cut it off. Unlike yours mine is still green. But the plant overall is about 3" tall now! :D
isnt that strange. Thats my new go too. It seams like they are all releasing hormones which helps each other out. or there are like beneficial bacteria in there or something. OR maybe they just dont wanna be lonely lol
My obliqua runner leaf sheath is pushing out a growth and I'm STOKED! Would love to see a care video if you find any insights, I can't find decent info anywhere. Currently I have it in your prop set up with a heat mat + regulator set to 83F and that seems to be doing well. I will probably make a new plastic bin terrarium for it once it gets established
I recently released a new video where i flat out took it out into 50% humidity it suffered some burn but now its growing just fine! if you wanna see some more recent pics message me on instagram techplant.official
Thanks Im just glad they have come down in price a lot from where they used to be. Ive been seeing some runners for like $200 these days which is crazy. hopefully in 6 more months we can see em drop below $100
Iron maybe? Or probably soaked up too much water. It looks great though! Good job 👏 👍 chlorosis can have many starting points unfortunately. Please do an updated video and if it's not too much to ask, keep informing it's environment conditions 💚 thank you
I brought one and was given a second stem, so it is a waiting game at this point. Question, when you transferred this into the soil mix. Where do you store the plant? Did you store it in a high humidity box? I'm just hoping that the plant will not live its life in a box.
Is it just the propagations that take long to grow? Monstera obliqua plant grows so fast (the plant itself not propagations) and I’m constantly trying to tack up new longer growth
I love watching your stuff grow.
...
That didn't come out right.
lol

Thanks, I will get back to your email shortly!
Congrats on getting the node to activate and start throwing out leaves for you, be great to see another update in a few months.
Thanks ill keep you updated!
Cool! Thanks for walking us through the process. Always appreciate you taking the extra effort to record the plant at each stage.
My pleasure!

Congrats and nice work! you dont have to cut it off I just did so it fit in its new pot
Always looking forward to your videos. There’s always something to learn about
More to come!
Yeah, from node to leaf. I found that a packed prop bin or cup in perlite works wonders with a lot of friends.

Love this channel! Thanks for all you share and do!
Thanks for watching ant taking the time to comment!
@@TechplantChannel could you post your shop link?
im working on it now but it will exist here when its done www.techplantshop.com/
wow! being able to grow an Obliqua is such an achievement
Thanks, lets hope i can fix the nutrient deficiencies tho
Hi, can you do a video on soil mixes and the reasons why you use the soil amendments you do? Thanks, love your vids!
I heard you talk about “micro fauna” can you do a video explaining the process of how you go about this, my bins never last more than a few months

I'm so happy you got your dream plant and it is growing nicely for you. That is an awesome feeling!

I'm doing one soon, just waiting for the newest leafe to unfurl! I made some radical environmental changes too!

Congrats on that ! :)

can you do a video about using bins to propagate? i've never heard of doing that before
sure!

beautiful
shouldn't it have holes?
also hell yeah on selling it cheap, revolutionalize that market!
it gets more holes as it gets bigger, the prices have crashed a lot recently
Did you get the node on Etsy? Your timeline & growth pattern is near identical to mine..!
no i got it from some texas women in a facebook group!
Wowww!
Thanks for watching!
@@TechplantChannel anytime:}
I have a monstera with a runner. Should I cut and prop it?
How much did you pay for it? Is it a rare plant in the US? Because here in Germany you can get one for 10€ in the most plant shops.
Put a link to your shop when you have it!!
will do!
Nice
That’s all I have to say
lol, thanks! Thanks for being a long time viewer!
@@TechplantChannel The great content you produce is what’s keeping me here! Great work man
Imo it kinda seems like chlorosis. Perhaps a bit more iron in the substrait could help
I think so too I added some and the newest leaf looks a lot better
Looks like its lacking iron. The tells are the dark veins and light coloured leafs. But please double check with your other ob growers for the ratio.
i agree with you, cuz they are already getting magnesium which can also look like this. I have iron pellets ill add
I planted runners, instead grow leaves my runner grow another runner, how come ????
woah thats crazy, Im not sure maybe it needs more light?
My other 2 runners growing alright, only this one really different lol
please do another update!!!
Ok will do
Mine didn't grow a leaf, it grew a new runner!
