As a Brazilian myself, and a enthusiastic admirer of Roberto Burle Marx since young age (I'm into plants since I was 6, and I am a biologist because of my love for plants, I got quite emotional with this nice and endearing video. Thank you!
Super cool that you are championing betterhelp/mental health support, love this so much to help normalize asking for and receiving support. Thank you! Wonderful sharing of Burle Marx' story and his love of plants and life. Just got my first flame, and (hoping) to watch it grow!
For many reasons, this video resonated with me me on a deeper level so much that i immediately rewatched it. Im compelled to watch it again in the future as a reflective piece.
I had the privilege to bring Don Roberto around Luzon in the Philippines in 1992 if I am not mistaken. He was with Leeland Miyano and Dr. Bob Hirano of the Lyons arboretum. Fantastic guy. we would go around some garden and he would just sing opera. He loved and appreciated all plants.
I appreciate your efforts to tell some of Roberto Burle Marx's story. I live in Brazil's capital and everywhere I go I see his influence. I just love how he made native plants a focus in our landscape architecture and how his name is being made common by his plants discoveries.
Thank you for this video! Very much appreciated for the indoor plants' history as well as the early native forest conservation efforts by Roberto Burle Marx.
It's incredable how one person can change the world so much in ways they never could have foreseen, and never live to see. His love of plants revolutionized life for many people.
This was an incredibly interesting and well produced video. I’d easily say that you’re one of the best storytellers out there (online and in person). I love your content and videos.
Loveddd this, please do one on Dr Tom Croat, that man is incredible and i got to meet him last year (i live in Australia) and he has a very incredible story, he is such a kind person.
I've watched every one of your Indepths, and this one tops them all. Loved reading more about Burle Marx (and his contemporaries). He was truly a Renaissance man and (I'm guessing) a hero in Brazil for his environmental advocacy. Thanks again for the time and effort preparing this, Chris.
Great story! Just picked up one in a 2" pot for $129. Definitely cheaper than last year, and I suspect the price will go down even more. Beautiful plant!
The variegated Philodendron you showed Philodendron sp. 'Burle Marx' not Philodendron bulre-marxii. The number refers to described botanical species and not cultivar names
This reminds me of Mr. Madison, who set out in the 50s or 60’s to set up a guide into the genus of Monstera, which is still used (and build upon) today. I believe it was his thesis work that brought him into the jungle (field work) of South America, documenting over 100 pages of never before seen images of Monstera species.
What a beautiful video, SO fabulous to learn about this man who's name is attached to so many plants! I noticed a few other well known faces from the plant world in those photos too! 😊🌱🌱🌱
💚 Excellent choice of subject matter to help inform us plant enthusiasts about the earliest forms of this hobby, and how it took shape from some of the earliest days. From plant cultivation, scaling, conservation, collecting and appreciation… this was so worth watching and exploring further. *It is also worth noting the emphasis on the positive aspects and benefits on one’s overall wellbeing in partaking in the peace that interacting with the natural world can offer.
Finally, someone other than me knows about this LEGEND! Well done, Chris! Also, if you’re going to say Alocasia that way, you need to roll the accent when you say “Chocolate”. Ie: Anthurium Luxurian Choco-latte! 😆
I would love for you to cite your sources or list them in the description. For example that book the pictures where from. Would love to buy that one for myself
absolutely love your videos and learning things about the plant world i would otherwise never know without your channel! i know contracts are involved so sponsorship discussions are tricky but wanted to note that betterhelp is known to be a shady and controversial company. no judgement here but wanted it to be made aware.
I appreciate you mentioning this. Someone mentioned it above and I just learned of this now. This was a one off sponsorship, so I will do some homework. I appreciate the heads up!
Very fascinating thank you so much for this video...he certainly looked like a very happy man. I mean who wouldn't be, surrounded by such beauty all the time and making it your life's course. I would have loved to have met him 🫡
Who learns about physical, mental, or spirtual health at home? By & large we need outside education (hell, even sex ed had to be taught by someone outside my home). Very brave and commendable you're tackling this stigma.
Love this type of video! It's a lot more interesting than the plant drama which I only remotely care about because I need to stay up to date with the meta.
What a beautiful homage to a beautiful life. Right in all the feels 🥹🥹🥹 I love knowing all these things about him. Can definitely relate to his passion about seeking out the unfamiliar lately 😂😇 plant passions have a way of bringing out the best in you- lately I’m realizing how much I unpack more imposter syndrome every time I try something new and solve a new problem I’m having with my plant collection. Truly the most personally rewarding thing I’ve done in a long long time 💚
Wow, his esthetic just screams Disneyland/world. I wonder if he had a hand in the design. At first I was thinking he and I are very similar in our love of broad leafed plants but then you said he was always in a good mood so the similarities end there! 😆
What a great video! I have always been curious about who Burle Marx was and why so many species are named after him! It was very cool to learn more of the history, thanks for this video!
Hey thanks for the video, I admire Roberto very much for his conservation efforts. Would you consider making a video about Tim Plowman or Tom Croat expeditions?
Fact check: Carl Linnaeus is responsible for our scientific naming system. Maybe clarify, what you meant by "plant classification" at ua-cam.com/video/RQbtVgxehzY/v-deo.html
From Adolf Engler’s wiki: “Even now, his system of plant classification, the Engler system, is still used by many herbaria and is followed by writers of many manuals and floras. It is still the only system that treats all 'plants' (in the wider sense, algae to flowering plants) in such depth.[1]”
Better help is not a good sponsor :x There is various videos here on their scummy practices to both users and therapists, and news stories about how they sold private user mental health data to other companies (they got in official trouble for that).
Please do some research on better help before accepting their sponsorship next time. It is a company that has no good intentions. They have set up funneling websites that they have been sued over and have since shut down. One that took the profiles of real doctors without them knowing, recommended a doctor in your area, and then told you that they weren’t accepting new patients. Then the website suggested better help. This is just one of the scams that they have been caught for. They went through a period being sponsors on UA-cam several years ago before the UA-cam community figured out who they actually were and pushed them off the platform sometime around 2018. Now they are back taking advantage of a new generation of creators and viewers. If someone needs a mental health professional, they should find one locally that also offers telehealth. Meet them in person, establish a connection, and then decide if video calls will be sufficient enough to help.
Do you realise what the word spunk means outside America? And two do you really want to support an organisation which is harming people please don't take sponsorships from better help and three awesome vid
It's actually been life changing for me. It helps me a lot try and work on being the best dad I can be. I know the company has their questionable history (which I was unaware of until after) and we no longer work together, but it has tremendously helped both my wife and I.

Agreed, such a warming documentary of Burle Marx

Oh, what a lovely memory ❤❤
This was gorgeous, Chris. Thank you so much, it's nice to see such a lovely human remembered well. 😊
So nice to get to know the people behind our green buddies. Thank you for this little history lesson!☺️💚
Just got my first Burl Marx Flame yesterday in the mail!
Amazing!!!
I live in RJ and have visited Sítio Burle Marx in Guaratiba on several occasions. Truly amazing place.
So cool! I want to go!!!
What a wonderful tribute to Burle-Marx you made 🙂
I appreciate your efforts to tell some of Roberto Burle Marx's story. I live in Brazil's capital and everywhere I go I see his influence. I just love how he made native plants a focus in our landscape architecture and how his name is being made common by his plants discoveries.
What an amazing story, I wish I could have talked to him. Thank you for this story. ❤

Thanks for the fine bio on the man. You really did your homework, please do more!
Thank you so much! I will!
Great story! Just picked up one in a 2" pot for $129. Definitely cheaper than last year, and I suspect the price will go down even more. Beautiful plant!
Love this, learning the origin of species, plants, gives you an unrealized appreciation you otherwise might not have.
Anyone catch his pronunciation of Alocasia 😁
Yes, his pronunciation of a lot of plants is different.
French people pronounce cressaunt kwe-sauun. But youre not going to see me say it like that in my south east american accent
That's how Latin countries pronounce it I think, also same in both Portuguese from Brazil or Portugal.
Totally 😁😹
I knew #TeamSayItWrong was going to be validated some day!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Aloha brother Chris! Awesome and thoroughly enjoyable tribute to a great man of our thing 🤙🏽🌱 Mahalo Nui!
Thank you Tony!!! Hope the Joepii is well 🤙
Finally a new documentary! Love the drama!
The variegated Philodendron you showed Philodendron sp. 'Burle Marx' not Philodendron bulre-marxii. The number refers to described botanical species and not cultivar names
This was absolutely wonderful! He seems like an incredible man. 💚
I LOVE learning about plants!!! ❤❤❤ your channel and All you products!!!! Have a great weekend!!!!
absolutely love this series and i appreciate all the research that goes into making a video like this!
They take a bit of time 😅 Thank you for the comment 😊

Yes! Michael Madison was a pioneer for the work on Monstera. Maybe I’ll look into his ventures for a vid!
What a beautiful video, SO fabulous to learn about this man who's name is attached to so many plants! I noticed a few other well known faces from the plant world in those photos too! 😊🌱🌱🌱
Cool story. I have a large P. Burle Marxii in my office named Roberto
Love that!
He was probably one of the best brazilians (as a brazilian myself) the outcome we got from him has been huge
I would agree to incarnate one more time….if I could come back as Mr. Burle Marx.
As an abundantly joyous person…what else could anyone ask for?

what a wonderful video. He's one of the top people I would visit if I could travel back in time.
I love videos on plant history topics. Nice job! 🎉😊

Love this type of video! It's a lot more interesting than the plant drama which I only remotely care about because I need to stay up to date with the meta.
Hahahaa ya I’m glad I could step away from the drama and still make it engaging 😅
Tending to plants is therapeutic already.

@@prettyingreen It appears we are both correct lol. His system is built on Linneaus's older works, but I feel silly for not knowing his name.
Great information 😊
o goodness thank you 🥰🥰
Ok thanks
Thanks Jeremy

that would be Karl Marx
