As somebody who has made 11 builds this year (no money playing my career) the average build cost is 450-550k VC. You dont see the actual cost because you have to grind to get to 99 and they also do a scummy trick of 60-70 overall the attribute point cost to upgrade is drastically reduced and then after that threshold it almost doubles in vc cost to upgrade 1 attribute point.
This isn't just exclusive to these titles. This is specifically for ANY sports game and game that has a yearly release. Most games suck nowadays and are incomplete because they are copy+paste that have little innovation or ideas every few years to keep fans happy. I rather they release a game every 3 or 5 years with roster updates and actual dlc to make it feel fresh.
Paying $70 for a roster update and the gameplay equal to a free to play game is wild to me. Only reason I’ve ever played 2k was because it was free for ps+ or my buddy got me it. If it was free then the micro-transactions wouldn’t be as horrendous. But since you have to buy the game, and pay for vc unless you want to grind until the next 2k drops, since your character is essentially a walking hot dog out the gate. It is atrocious.
I've played dozens of basketball games since the early 90's. The BEST one that I've ever played was NBA 2K12. It was my first 2k game and my first My Player experience. I wanted to take it easy so I made a 300 pound center to play like Shaq. The 76ers drafted me and it wasn't a good match. I kept getting subbed in at power forward, and at 300 pounds and an overall rating in the 60's I was getting wrecked. I demanded a trade after like 20 games. Then everything was amazing. I got sent to the Knicks with Amare and prime Melo. My playing time was going up and I was actually playing at center. My first good game came against the Spurs. I was on fire and hit the game winning shot. A week later I was in an NBA promo commercial and my game winner was the end of the commercial. IDK if it was just a coincidence or if the game is scripted to do that, but it was perfect. Then the team realized that they didn't need Amare Stoudamire with me getting regular starting time and playing better every game. Stoudamire gets traded for James Harden. The team made some other moves too. We ended up with Mo Williams at the point guard and he was a perfect fit. Luis Scola was the power forward and we also ended up with Nick Batum. This was back when Nick Batum was looking like he was going to become Scottie Pippen 2.0. Our team was stacked. Then it happened. Melo got hit with a regular season ending injury. I took over the team. We finished second in the east behind Lebron's Miami Heat. I averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. We had some good battles in the playoffs. Melo came back just in time for the conference finals against the Heat. The Heat took us to game 7. With 7 seconds left on the clock I dropped a shot to put us up by 2. The Heat have no timeouts. All we have to do is guard against a 3. The ball gets inbounded to Wade. Wade's defender is slacking off. I notice this almost instantly, I mash the turbo button and move my 300 pound ass to stop him. I barely miss blocking his half court shot and Wade nails it!......FUCK!! Sent home because the AI couldn't read the situation. The ending of that season was horrible, but at the same time the journey was great. I gave it my all and took the Heat to 7 games. The game play was pretty realistic for a basketball game, the players performed pretty close to reality (minus Batum). Now My Player only lasts for a year as long as the server stays up so you can buy VC. I haven't bought a 2k game in like 3 years. IDK if I will ever buy one again. AI will be used to keep players constantly on the edge of almost being good....to spend more. All teams always play the same, no matter what offense you run, or who your coach is. It's sad how bad 2k has become.
I think the fact that you get no season xp for playing mycareer games even tho mycareer is kinda tied to the city/park is really overlooked by a lot of people
I hate that. You grinding for one type of reward. There are some modes in the city that don't advance your season xp either. You do all the sunset parks and other shit and NOPE
I've made 7 builds a year since 2k15 ngl. Well over $700 a year just on VC in the past few years since the pricing of attributes has gone up. I've easily spent 7k in the past 9 years.

I always used to play play now online with real teams and players (my Knicks). Don’t understand why this custom player pay to win became so much more popular than just playing online with real NBA teams and players we all love. Would never pay for that type of game mode.
Separating current gen and next gen was really when the game started becoming unplayable. The city is way too much, I wish we had a simple neighborhood like the one in 2k20. I wouldn’t even mind if they brought back pie charts for mycareer either, the current builder is rlly bad imo. And on top of that it’s so much harder to upgrade a player now without spending money. I used to love grinding nba games and upgrading gradually overtime but it’s so difficult to do that now.
I definitely wouldnt have a problem with that, paying more than I did for the game for a virtual character is what Im not gonna do, Ill stick to playnow online
in nba 2k17 it costed $20 (75k vc) to upgrade to an 85 ovr bro. Also 2k did a twitch pack in 2k17 where it gave you 75k and that was a whole free ass build.
Yh me too I waited till it dropped on game pass cuz of all the negativity around it and I was still madly disappointed I won’t be playin for a year or two till they fix up

You shouldn't stop yourself from buying it, but don't play the money modes (MyPlayer and MyTeam) you can have fun in the franchise modes and you can still play with the boys. Just stop buying VC.
Everything you said is facts. The thing I don't understand is that the players who know the game is shit and complain about it, are the same ones who continue to buy 2k every year. Stop giving this company money when they show you they don't care.
It's not about buying the game, it's about the extra money you spend after buying the game...If everyone simply just bought it but weren't so obsessed with trying to fit in with swag, animations, and abilities... The game would just be a fun basketball game. You stopping yourself from buying the game is being made up by the 11 year old who is opening endless packs trying to get Kobe or LeBron. Buy the game but leave your wallet alone after
Yeah at the end of the day, the buck stops with us the consumers. If a company released a product and nobody bought it, the company would stop making it. If Samsung released a phone and it flopped, they would end that product line. Companies keep doing these microtransactions because the consumers make it very very profitable for them.
It's about the franchise. I play WWE 2K. I despise 2K, and feel Strauss Zellnick is like the Putin of gaming, but I love pro wrestling. I buy the game, and the DLCs, because of my passion for WWE. It's a hard thing to shake, and unfortunately 2K benefits from that. Like Badge said: no competition, and that goes for the wrestling games too. I've played AEW's game. Not a fan. I've never bought VC.
People keep saying that 2K is this way because it doesn't have competition but no one ever buys Live or any other NBA games when they come out. Competition will never be a factor so we gotta figure out another answer.
They literally close their old online servers just so people can purchase the new games, they don’t even think about the unprivileged individuals that can only play the older versions but they can’t afford the latest game.. shit sad bro and it’s not gonna change, ever since 2k18 this shit been a downward spiral

Content creators and cheaters play a role in the downfall of 2k as a great game. Content creation led to a lot of duplicate builds and people playing the same way because things shifted from doing what’s best for you to making the same build as badgeplug or build the same team as Splash. 2k definitely has an issue with greed and they cut corners on things like their servers but I feel like we’re not being real if we can’t admit that content creators, cheaters and the divided community don’t play a role as well.
Same. I stopped at 20, since I enjoyed 2k14, 2k15 (even though shots wouldn’t go in as much on Hall of Fame, but I enjoyed it since the park and the blacktop players were finally free), 2k16 (because of he dribbling and shot meter being fixed), and 2k17 (even though there were archetypes, it was still fun even though it was funny seeing the box head glitch), 2k18 (it sucked), 2k19 (it was 2k-8 with defense that was a little bit broken, it just needed to balanced), 2k20 (at least MYTEAM was kinda fun)

Servers? Oh, you're one of these 'everything has to be online multiplayer' people. I can still boot up NBA 2K13 or 2K17, and my seasons are all still exactly where I left them. Just stop dumping time and money into an online mode you know will be gone in two years.

My top problems with 2k: Vc prices (upgrading players are like 100$, shirts shorts ect up to 30k vc) The city( they need to being back old park and rep) Few gameplay features ( better dribbling, the game was made to feel more realistic but the dribbling in old 2ks (15,16,17,19,20) were all better because they were a lil more arcadey. Lastly Instant greens need to come back they just felt more rewarding😭
I played 2k6. Way back in the day. Then really got into 2k13. Bought 2k23 in 2024 and was instantly hit with a ton of ads telling me to buy 2k25 and that the servers were going offline soon. Haven’t loaded it up since then. And probably will never buy another 2k again. I hate ads. Hate them.
Opening packs is 110% an addiction, I’ve had to stop playing games like madden and 2k just because I felt like I had to buy packs just so I can keep up and obviously in the moment opening packs is fun but then you don’t get anything good then you realize you spent soooooo much money for no reason. I’m tired of the company greed bs
I exclusively play MyCareer offline because I am not interested in online play or MyPark. Since they started to shut servers down for older games MyCareer is essentially a feature on a timer. They also tied offline progression to your MyPark character forcing you to earn VC at a snails pace. Then they started to balance MyCareer even in offline around online play, restricting you to archetypes etc. just let me grind my 99 overall demigod in singleplayer 2k ffs how is it so hard to at least deliver a passable singleplayer experience. Impossible to play or justify.
Since I don't believe 2k would ever make a Luka step back and make builds as cheap as 20$, I think an even better solution for both parts would be the option to delete your build and get back your vc. They'd still get money because many people would create more than one build and surely invest in each one, a way happier fan base which can choose what they really want to do on the court but still play the game a lot because of the need to grind badges, level caps, hot zones, REP and most importantly because people would have WAY more fun,
1:17 Shi.. I can come up with some reasons of top. Micro transactions.. Badge regression.. Shot contest.. *Poor* match making.. Lagging servers.. Archetype system.. Takeover Selection.. “Affiliation Boost”.. … worst 2K I ever played. In my opinion, This game was a lot better when it was pie chart based. It allowed us to compete fairly while having balanced builds … Now you need to have a Rec Build.. Park Build.. Pro-Am Build.. For example. If I make a build that has decent attributes in two categories.. then I’m at a disadvantage in my other two categories. The joy I once had while playing this game is definitely gone now, and if they plan on copying and pasting this game to 2K25.. I’m not buying it.
Guys there's a simple solution, stop supporting the game, stop supporting 2k. They are aware of their awful reputation, they don't care though. They don't have to care because people will still buy the game and buy the VC every year.
You are really knowledgeable about this game, and you are absolutely right that MyERA is the best franchise mode in all sports games. That's why as an EAFC player I'm looking forward to FIFA2K, because I know their offline mode will be a lot better than EA's.
My first online 2k was 23 and I’ve spent maybe 30 bucks combined on 23 and 24 so I had to grind all that vc in mycareer games and it look me like 2 months from when I first got on 24 to get to a high enough overall to play Rec and actually have some fun. Horrible game would not recommend
the only "good" microtransaction experience for me was smite, gave me a free game, got me hooked and i ended up spending $100ish since 2016 just to give the gaming industry an idea
2K used to be about the love of basketball, now it's love for the money. Builds used to be easy to grind with no money spent, that is now impossible. The game feels hollow and generic year to year compared to the life and soul of games like 2K14-2K17 era when it was about innovation and gameplay.
This is why I play off-line my league. I can make my character to whatever I want, but whatever I want on them (tattoos, shoes) just like my career and play a career. I just miss out on the cut scenes and the other stuff in my career like park. I still find this option better than paying to play online
Yes! someone else said it. I don’t understand play now online should be the main mode but seems people just want to by stuff for the dopamine instead of have a good fun competition with real nba teams.
@@MidtownMeezus They made every sports game “pay to play”. The other thing is we have all these thousands of customizations. Yet and still people make the same builds. With the same jump shots and dribble packages. People even try to play the same. Usually like their favorite UA-cam influencer.

Mircrotransactions are 1 thing but the rec setup is really what killed it for me. Been religioualy playing 2k since 2k9 but its rediculous that playing no squads is a better experience than playing with 1 or 2 friends because every random duo or trio you get teamed up with think theyre shaq and kobe or steph klay and kd.
Personally, this is why I switch to PC gaming on PC. You’re able to find cracked games and be able to try to get a DLC’s for free and when it comes to NBA you could just easily mod the game to make it better than what the devs do
i feel like VC should be a universal currency across all 2k games that carry VC. so for an example i have 500K on NBA 2k24 at the end of the year and 2k25 drops i should have that 500K when i launch 2K25 first day to make my build. and lets say i dont enjoy 2k25.
I hate to say it but welcome to the club, you're seeing what other gamers saw years ago with games that were not based on sports, then they found that rosters change every year, and they can create the same exact game every year and just add a few little things. The problem with speaking with your wallets, it's a NBA game there are too many people who will buy and play it because it's the only NBA game there and most casuals who will spend the money on a game that has a name that is known outside of gamers, these same people will then have jobs with disposable income, and no time to grind, so make it so they can make the most money from them, they never have or will ever care about creators unless you can reach out to 50M people +, and actually possibly hurt sales. They built this game for casual players with disposable income, not the people who actually play the game every day. They then give the image of limited availability and a quick way to boost yourself and the person who has more money than time will then spend that money to save their time. And this is how games work now, welcome to the rest of the gaming industry sports gamers, you're just a little more fucked because 2k and EA have exclusivity rights.
2k is cooked unfortunately. They focus on all the extra bs but the actual gameplay. Also now a days everyone who plays 2k is a sweat which doesn’t help
The park is such a waste of time trting to run everywhere. I would probably buy the game for the career mode but its such a waste of time trying to get a decent rating and going througg the motions of progressing.
Realistically only problem I see is people being impatient and not wanting to grind for anything anymore. I'm playing GTA Online for a year now after I played it first back in the day in 2013. Started from scratch and realistically took me 6-8 months of casual gaming to actually buy all the businesses and things that make you enjoy the game to the max. But THAT grind was the key thing.
It's funny how I was excited to play my first 2k since 2k11 once I got my PS5 last year but all these videos basically scared me away from ever getting this.
The issue comes down to the players. 2k will continue these awful practices as long as the players allow them to. I've stopped playing, but I don't matter. As long as you, and all your viewers keep buying the game and spending so much money on VC, 2k will keep milking you. Why? Because it works. The players have no one to blame but themselves. You don't have to play 2k. And even if you want to, you don't have to make multiple builds and have all the drippy outfits

2k10 and 2k11 was the best 2k’s EVER!!!
I think the fact that you get no season xp for playing mycareer games even tho mycareer is kinda tied to the city/park is really overlooked by a lot of people
It’s so bad
This is one of my main gripes. Shits disgusting
Facts! I always thought that was weird. Def need to be talked about.
I hate that. You grinding for one type of reward. There are some modes in the city that don't advance your season xp either. You do all the sunset parks and other shit and NOPE
No the problem is the vc amount you get for a game is not enough in every mode

No way “Bethesda” had you like that…
If builds was $20 a build, it would def be lit

I definitely wouldnt have a problem with that, paying more than I did for the game for a virtual character is what Im not gonna do, Ill stick to playnow online
It would keep people playing longer imo, making new builds is the biggest way to keep the game fresh to each player
in nba 2k17 it costed $20 (75k vc) to upgrade to an 85 ovr bro. Also 2k did a twitch pack in 2k17 where it gave you 75k and that was a whole free ass build.

But Badge clearly buys the game every year too lol
People keep saying that 2K is this way because it doesn't have competition but no one ever buys Live or any other NBA games when they come out.
Competition will never be a factor so we gotta figure out another answer.
The answer is to stop playing it and it would have to be a team effort with the entire community. But they won’t do that so it’s time to just walk.

If people stop buying VC they’ll go away from it eventually … Consumers keep buying it they’re gonna keep putting it into game …
They'd still get money because many people would create more than one build and surely invest in each one, a way happier fan base which can choose what they really want to do on the court but still play the game a lot because of the need to grind badges, level caps, hot zones, REP and most importantly because people would have WAY more fun,
Aye Badge Ik this isn’t important but Your a W UA-camr Fr
I spent $15 and I felt Stupid! Never again!
1:17 Shi.. I can come up with some reasons of top.
Micro transactions..
Badge regression..
Shot contest..
*Poor* match making..
Lagging servers..
Archetype system..
Takeover Selection..
“Affiliation Boost”..
… worst 2K I ever played.
In my opinion, This game was a lot better when it was pie chart based. It allowed us to compete fairly while having balanced builds …
Now you need to have a Rec Build..

Personally, this is why I switch to PC gaming on PC. You’re able to find cracked games and be able to try to get a DLC’s for free and when it comes to NBA you could just easily mod the game to make it better than what the devs do
I also got a pc and you can’t play online because of modders cheating
i feel like VC should be a universal currency across all 2k games that carry VC. so for an example i have 500K on NBA 2k24 at the end of the year and 2k25 drops i should have that 500K when i launch 2K25 first day to make my build. and lets say i dont enjoy 2k25.

Exactly
