E-flite UMX Turbo Timber - The Ultimate Winter Beater!!!

- The E-flite UMX Turbo Timber is the ultimate winter beater. When my local flying sites are inaccessible because of too much snow I always grab it and a few packs and find an open plowed parking lot and grab some flights. After 3 straight days of snow it was nice to get out and enjoy the winter wonderland we live in here in west Michigan. I am using my Spektrum NX10 transmitter and an E-flite 2s 280 lipo pack. So much fun but watch out for the obstacles in the parking lot!! ;)
Please help support my UA-cam channel and consider purchasing the items from the links below. Thanks!

“My thumbs are a pretty cold” then proceeds to absolutely whip out the best aerobatics with that plane I’ve ever seen
awesomebob I appreciate your comments and thanks for watching my video. The cold will be sticking around for a while around here so cold thumbs or not I take advantage of every opportunity to fly this time of year... which isn't very often. :(
For real. That was some amazing flying!
Very skilled flying there!
I always enjoy"Modest" rc pilots who will keep everyone's expectations very low and then as soon they take off the surprise airshow begins👍👍😎👍👍 Fantastic flight once again Michael btw have you ever had any elevator servo lock outs happen to you while flying any of these UMX planes?
@@3DMOFO2020 Yes servo lockouts are a fairly common problem on the umx plane's linear servos. There are a few threads about this issue but most of them don't lead to a real answer. Most of the time though, it happens when putting extended stress to max deflection i.e. pushing the elevator down and doing loops for a minute straight.
Ridiculous flying!!!! Smoothest I’ve ever seen this model flown!!
Thanks Travis!
Damn this man can fly! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks TokMok!
She's a Beauty out in the cold! Nice control!
The little Turbo Timber is amazing agile and can be flown in the minimal amount of space. Perfect for winter operations. Thank you and thanks for watching.
Your flying remind me a lot of someone I once knew. In the mid 1990s I used to fly at a club field in Grapevine TX. There was this 14yo kid there who was just an amazing RC pilot. He could do it all.
Thanks ctvxl!
Show Off!!! LOL I wish I could do a tenth as much with mine. I don't like taking mine out of safe.
Ha Ha! Thanks Dan. Hang in there and keep practicing even if you get frustrated as eventually you will get the hang of it.
Skill like this, I have no choice but sub! Great video!
Thanks for the sub!!!
My record low temperature flight is -11F. I live in North Central, PA near the NY border and we had that -11F temp one morning this past winter. My wife thinks I'm crazy but I'll only go out if there is little to no wind. I pre-flight in my heated garage while a thin pair of wool gloves are being warmed by an oil filled space heater. My flight timer is set to 6 minutes so I'm only outside for 7-8 minutes and then back into the house. Without any real wind and dressed properly I haven't felt the cold in that short a period of time.
It's pretty interesting what some of us will do to get in a few flights. I this case I keep my Jeep running with the heater blowing wide open and jump out to fly then back in after a flight to warm up. It's much harder to do that with a bigger plane.
I'm glad to see this I fly my umx turbo timber like a bat out of hell too when I first got it I put the slats on and once they came off the acrobatics started.....solid flying
Thanks Tory. I've been know to fly mine a little too crazy as this is my third UMX Turbo Timber. ;)
That little plane just does something for you, even when the hanger is full of big boys
Yes considering the other planes in my hangar this one gets flown most. I suppose it’s because it is so convenient and easy to transport and it does fly well.
Just flew mine off the beach at Point Betsy Lighthouse last weekend. Still loving that little bugger.
That’s awesome Ben! The Frankfort area is my favorite. Glad to see your getting some flying time despite the weather. 👍
Good flying ,loved it ! That's one tuff battery is all I can say
Thanks Jerry! I do tend to go through packs on occasion as I can be a little hard on them. 😮
Amazing flying, well done sir! That deserves a subscribe, almost at 1000 subs! Love that little plane, I want one. Perfect ending with the nose over after that awesome flight, haha.
Thanks Shane! It's crazy how much fun the little UMX Turbo Timber is to fly. It's the ultimate in stress free flying.
Another great video Michael. You're the best!
Thanks Gert! I appreciate you watching the video too.
The flights control board also sends the battery voltage to the transmitter. I love this plane 👍 Nice flight!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Another amazing demonstration from the smoothest pilot on UA-cam! That inverted low pass could not get much lower. Love all your vids Dawg, keep it up. :-)
Thanks Mike and thanks for watching my videos!
Wow, mad skills there! Never seen a UMX timber put through the paces like this before -:)
Thanks Tom! I’m really surprised by how much the little Timber is capable of doing.
Awesome flight. I’m thinking about getting one. Currently fly helis but want to get into fixed wing also. It looks like I just live a little south of you.
Thanks Bill! I highly recommend getting one as they are so much fun to fly. I also fly helicopters and flying planes is quite similar. You should transition very quickly. Good luck and let me know how you do.
Nice flying as usual bro. Next time I want to see tracks in the snow from dragging the tail.😜
Thanks bro. I’ve got another plane that I might be able to make that happen with so stay tuned.
Very nice flying!
Thank you very much and thank you for watching my video.
Awesome flying. Very inspirational! I subscribed. 👍🏻
Thanks RandyB! Thank you for subscribing too!
Great demo
Thanks and thanks for watching. 👍
Nice flight. Those snaps to inverted look good. Never tried that when I had mine. Didn't keep it long I have way more fun with the Umx Ultrix.
Thanks. I’m quite impressed by how well the little Timber will snap. It also flies knife edge surprisingly well and will do all of this on floats too.
this dude should make the comercials for horizon hobby. super risky flying for sure!
Thanks for watching Jesus Herrera! I appreciate your comments.
superb flying.. do you use any mixes on your model... flaps/elevator or aileron/rudder.. or is it only maxed out on all servos.. thanks dave...
Thanks John! No mixes but I did max out the mechanical control throw on each surface.
I may get a chance Sunday and Monday to try the Timber UMX in the snow, but probably ice here in Atlanta.
The poor 7 year old Apprentice 15s and the 6 year old Timber and Turbo Timber were banished to the “Hangar of Death”, but got a 2nd life as full time float planes. I wonder how those foam floats would handle snow, but more likely ice? Holler at me Michael if you’ve tried floats.
Hi Jeff, I definitely have flown my UMX Turbo Timber with floats both off the snow and water (water video here ua-cam.com/video/LP72EdpN7ok/v-deo.html ). It flies extremely well with the floats on it. I do recommend covering the bottom of the floats with Scotch Tape if you are flying of hard snow or ice as it can be hard on them. You're going to have a blast with it on floats.
@@michaelclinerc3211 I was thinking what to cover the bottom of the floats with to strengthen them up. I was going in the direction of poly-acrylic, but the 3 inch clear packing tape may be the way to go. Thanks for the insight Michael!
@@jeffhenderson934 👍😎
It disappeared there for a while. Oooohhh... White plane, against snow... Been there, done that. Just not as good as you. But I'm workin on it. None of that White Fungus in West Texas.
Yes way to much white fungus on the ground these days. Keep posting videos as I’ve been enjoying all your activity.
@@michaelclinerc3211 But of course, just waiting on new "DorkCam" 🙄
nice flying! How does the cold weather the batteries?
Thanks Lenny! The cold does affect performance but one of the ways I try and get around that is by pre-warming the batteries on my Jeeps defrosters. I set the batteries on the windshield defrosters and they are always nice and warm when I go to use them. It definitely helps.
🤘
Thanks mat!
I guess you do have the winter itch to fly.
Cabin fever was getting the best of me. Had to do it.
Excellent piloting there! I've noted with mine that I dont have near the throws to enable the control that comes even close to what i'm seeing with yours and others I've watched on UA-cam. My rolls are very slow even after moving the rod to the inner hole on the aileron control horn. Any tips on maximizing throws with this?
Thanks Robert. I have my control rods on the inner most hole on the control horns on all the control surfaces. I also did not install the leading edge slats an the little Timber slows down great for me on landing. Make sure you are also using 100% if you have dual rates set up.
Amazing flight! I didn't think a timber umx could do certain stunts! great pilot!
What have you changed compared to the stock model? Thanks!
Hi MattopRC. My Timber is completely stock but I did move the control rods to the innermost hole on the control surface horns. Thanks for watching!
@@michaelclinerc3211 thanks!
Off topic but which plane flys the best between the Eflite RV and the Eflite Pitts 850mm?
Hi Jim, from my experience they both are shorter coupled and are great for snaps and tumbles. Both are outstanding flying planes but if I had to pick just one I’d slightly lean towards the RV-7.
@@michaelclinerc3211 Thanks! BTW your flying skillz are wicked good!
just picked a Timber UMX...Question: is there a way to use a different battery, as opposed to the E-Flight proprietary 280mAh 2S LiPo ....can I buy an adapter for this planes ESC ?...if so, what exactly would it be called ?.....I have found many other 2S 450mAh LiPos for a lot less, but their connectors are different...thanks for any help
HI Gary, yes you can absolutely use batteries of another brand. the best thing to do is simply change the plug on the Turbo Timber to a red JST male plug.
@@michaelclinerc3211understood......thank you
👍👍😊😊
Thanks Roland. Had to fix the title after the autocorrect on my iPhone goofed up the title.
how do you get yours to roll so quickly? mine has issues with rolling over slowly even with high rates and no safe
I moved the control rods to the innermost hole on both ailerons, rudder, and elevator. Plus you need to have a lot of throttle to get a good blast over the ailerons.
@@michaelclinerc3211 thank you!
Very nice !!! Do you keep your battery warm before each flight?
Thanks! I set them on my Jeeps windshield defroster as I drive to go fly. They are nice and warm when I get to the flying site. 👍
@@michaelclinerc3211 TY👌
Le pilote est hors norme ! DONC l’avion est « accroché » aux qualités exceptionnelles de mR CLINE
Thanks Jean-Pierre. The little Turbo Timber is so much fun to fly.
