    The best way to fix a major problem is to lower the third, then it’s only a minor annoyance.

    I'm curious about why you chose to treat the back wall with absorption with the wedgey foam as opposed to diffusion (like with RPG panels)?

    RELAX!!!!! I built a FLOATING room in Cleveland Ohio. Room in a room. I'll fill you in sometime. I had help from an engineer from NASA. You can make a dead room live BUT can never make a live room dead. SO go for DEAD and add HARD reflectors instead of stupid costly bass traps and constantly finding problems. Use binaural headphones with PINK NOISE pumped thru the mains. set up a graph and record the reflections. Of course it's tough to do...but you only do it once. (we also had a floating floor built on pounded gravel and fine sand inside of RAIL ROAD TIES! Serious. Our studio was 10 minutes from Cleveland Hopkins international Airport. The control room was excellent. The playing area was so dead that my partner wouldn't stay in in long for it made him more crazy than a loon. You could hear your heart beat and noises in your body, We added an array of moveable gobos with different surfaces on each side mounted on rollers. RELAX!!!! just a thought to help calm your nerves....or not...jv

    It’s normal that as you start treating your room, you reach a point where it reveals in stunning details the problem areas. Flutter echo is the easiest problem to deal with, and the most obvious… a small amount of fiber or diffusion will solve it. However, the rear wall needs to have a huge amount of bass trapping since it is directly opposite the hard infinite baffle and the treatment needs to deal
    With the axial mode, as well as first reflections. I’m a small room like this, diffusion would cause too much destructive colorations back to the listening position.

    Professional acoustician here - really would have used more diffusion on the backwall and ceiling (especially in such a small room). A) to treat the echo you perceived and B) so the room sounds bigger. The room seems pretty dry by now too which is another reason to use diffusers. :)

    • @mikezietsman6044
      @mikezietsman6044 3 роки тому +9

      Non-professional acoustician here and gonna drop a hard disagree with Aaron. Diffusion is a minefield in a smaller room. Personally I would dedicate as much as possible of the back wall to pressure based bass trapping and use as thick a layer as possible of low GFR porous absorption over that to deal with the flutter. After that maybe look at diffusion, maybe. But it looks like you have hard front wall? That should go a long way towards providing the necessary localization cues so that you don't go nuts. interested if you'd be willing to post the REW files of your sweeps once it's done?

    • @gl3184

      @@mikezietsman6044 agree about seeing the REW files!

    • @Clacksper
      @Clacksper 3 роки тому +4

      @@mikezietsman6044 of course acoustics is a matter of taste... just said how I would have done it - I see no problem with diffusion as long as you're 3x the wavelength of the lower diffusion freqeuncy away from the diffusers, which shouldn't be a problem with most diffusers. Also I don't get what you mean with "minefield".

    • @iamelec
      @iamelec 3 роки тому +5

      According to Northward Acoustics diffusion is a no go in small rooms

    • @Clacksper
      @Clacksper 3 роки тому +4

      @@iamelec every acoustician has his/her own techniques and "no gos". As I mentioned previously, acoustics can be very subjective. I designed more than 200 studios in the last 3 years and never had somebody complaining about diffusion in the smaller rooms. Instead of blindly copying what you heard somewhere, I suggest trying it out! (thats probably one of the best ways to get good acoustics anyway) :)

    Whats the Price for this Speaker System and where can i get them?

  • @RecordingLounge
    @RecordingLounge 3 роки тому +3

    The back wall needs a lot of treatment. DEEP, low density treatment in front of membrane traps. That's very standard in professional studio designs. At the very least, I would recommend deep (e.g., 1 to 3ft) porous traps, made with low density fiberglass (e.g., pink fluffy). Not only will it kill the flutter, it is a necessity for treating the lowest modes. Diffusion can be a nice icing on the cake, but it really needs absorbtion back there. Without knowing exact dimensions I can't really get much more specific than that.

    Somebody help! At 04:51 do you hear that kick pattern on the right side or center?? I hear the kick on the right. I am in the middle of treating my small little home recording room myself. I just started but I am planning on ramping it up short term. For now I got some acoustic foam wedges to jam into the corners because on the right side there is like a double corner. Like, a corner that comes out of the corner, ya know? So I packed that with the wedges. The left speaker is basically in the middle of the room with nothing behind it and my monitors have their bass reflex tubes in the back. Do I hear the kick drum on the right because the left speaker is missing the treatment or is it actually panned right??? :D I'm going crazy here (and I am definitely going to work on my room treatment and speaker placement) so thanks in advance haha. If it's just the treatment that would be crazy!!! :D

    I get the need to 'keep the tempo high' so to speak. I'm in the middle of a studio build at home as well and it's really tiresome when you make a lot of progress and then have to wait to continue. In my case it's because contractors are too busy and I have to schedule them later than I'd like. Excited for your project to wrap up along with mine haha
    I'm also surprised your first instinct for the flutter wasn't to look at the ceiling. In my experience that's where I've noticed flutter occurring the most. Happy those massive diffusers and the multiple panels seemed to solve it :)

    That sucks, but there is plenty you can do for a flutter echo. Try rounding the flat spot between your monitors, if that can't be done, anti flutter slats on a Helmholtz resonator may help. QRD's have saved many a studio and one of the best bits of math worked out using prime numbers and modulus (Quadratic Resonant diffusers) will spread the sound 180 degrees , mount both horizontally and vertically usually in about a 2'x4' prime 7 being the most popular but not the only one. There is an array 16' long you can make with QRD's that diffuse from 20Hz to about 17Khz. without breaking your bank. It's a new problem and you will solve it acoustically or if all else fails spend the cash and buy PSI's AVAA's, active treatment that will make your rear wall just disappear with each unit seeming like a 5x5' hole in the back, gets rid of lots of problems from the back wall between 15-120Hz. The actual range is frequency dependant but they are 1 to 4 meters square area will be treated, the unit is .2Msq and it is usually a .5 to 20 times the units size in treated area so 20x.2=4m2 max. But when all else fails...Good luck.

    Why nearfield speakers with that kind of large baffle around the tweeters ? And not acoustical great sounding speakers ? Headphones are cheaper in fact

    I 100% love your desk! I'm thinking about making something like that using aluminium extrusion but not as big. Is this a company you called to help you make that desk or some friends?

    Okey, all about the viewers importans but without cool content you wouldn't have us at all so be proude 🥰 to your selve, that we still are here, hangin around. Now we "suffer" with you to the end and hopefully you get some sleep also. Everything can still go wrong 🤯 caused of some tiny shit thing you didn't predicted, but hopefully you manage everything at last. Hope you have any space left to your selve in the studion and that the aire is good enaugh in the now much smaller room.🤞

    You will be able to sort that once your acoustic boards are up on the back wall.

    Looks good. Are you going to install a switching matrix patch bay? So you can jump from analog to hybrid by pushing one switch?

    Next level stuff !! You must feel really proud. Looks great. Have you considered one of them Flock boxes (or something similar) for your patching needs.?
