@@jordan17bliss At modest levels and compression, the two act and sound pretty close! In my opinion, closer than the average hardware vs software comparison. I have to admit, this plugin does a great job of capturing the analog vibe, especially with the THD control and subtle harmonics when it's not even compressing. It’s impressive how they’ve managed to simulate the warmth without sacrificing detail. It’s not a full replacement for the real hardware, but for the price, it definitely brings value to the table. Curious to see how it holds up in more detailed comparisons with other emulations.
Pretty greedy of them to have it set that high in the first place. Seems like they were just testing the waters and luckily people weren't having it... this time
I watched Eric's videos demonstrating the plugin and he described how they worked to get the settings just right and I was impressed by the drum demo he did. I got the trial immediately and am using it on my drums bus and my mix buss (no comp, just enabled like you showed here) and I really like it. Then they reduced the price to down to $100 and it was a no-brainer immediate purchase.
I think it's $99 at the moment. It does sound good to me, better than the UAD one. Apart from the compression, while is nice and subtle, it colours the sound in a very nice way, add a tiny bit of top-end sparkle and air. While having a lot of low-end. The sound comes a little forward, but the frequency spectrum seems to extend and open up a bit wider too. The UAD sounds a bit pinched by comparison, though does do the compression and sounds clean and clear.
Amazing plugin, love it. Got it after they dropped the price. Very thick and polished sounding device. They did a superb job with the modeling and Eric is a legit guy. He has golden ears.
I can definitely hear the saturation. They may well be using neural modelling which can model saturation stages (& valve response) incredibly well, but only in the last few years.
As a grumpy studio veteran, who has tested loads of these compressor plugins and found most of them expendable, I have to admit that this thing sounds amazing. I don't know what it does better but it just works.
The high pass filter on the sc has been added today! Great update, really am loving the plugin. Don't use any other fairchild plugins anymore instantly lol
this might become a go to saturator surprisingly the compression is great too but i love saturation this one is really complex and it changes slightly with each time constant even without moving the threshold
There is a 1.0.2 version out now at 8:15 --> isn't it because his "Input gain" is turned up -hence the volume increase, even when compression is turned down ????
Would be great to see an in-depth review on the MS functionality. It's pretty amazing. This compressor is a lot more powerful than you'd expect from a plugin.
The first thing you wanna try is just increasing the input volume first. Do not engage the threshold until you hear a nice warm tube distortion start to come in and then back it off slightly or not.... This works great on drum busses as well. After you have experienced preamps, let the compressor engage only slightly.
It says "or From 17" - it isn't saying that the 4 instalments are 17! A bit of a trick there I think! The Learn more says: "Select installments at checkout to split your purchase into 4 interest-free payments of $24.75 every 2 weeks." *Instalments is spelt incorrectly on their site 😖

Hi, Great demo. I have had this on demo for a week and can't quite work out what it is doing to the sound but try it on brushed drums and you can hear the skin (as opposed to an almost white noise scrape every other good Fairchild VST I own produces), and also ethereal high sounds gain an airy spatial quality which I can't define - but I like it).

Thanks for this review. I love a Fairchild emulation on my buses, the UAD being my goto one. But this one I will definitely have a close look at. I never worked with any Fairchild hardware so whether this is an accurate simulation of the hardware doesn't mean much to me. I can't compare it anyway. For me, what it does and how it sounds is key. And what I hear in your review is very very promising. Both the compression itself and the character it adds without any compression sound very smooth and pleasant. I think I hear things I don't get from the UAD plugin, a very subtle smooth kind of harmonics / saturation. Not sure how that translates when applying it to individual instruments or even smoothing a vocal, but certainly some things to experiment with. very cool stuff
Usually the lower interest-free monthly payments are front-loaded by you having to pay a larger initial fee to get the $18 bucks/month or whatever that'll eventually make up the difference.
In the interest of full disclosure, I don't do very well with anybody's Fairchild plug in. I have never finished a mix with a Puigchild in it, same with the UAD Fairchild, the Firechild or any of the other children I've messed with. To my ears they're not so much gluey, as syrupy. This thing definitely has a tone that is independent of compression, but while it doesn't sound real Fairchildy to me, I do like it. But, I dunno, I think I'll just stick with my MJUC.

It seems to add a "vibrating" warmth of resonances which closely follow the music. Nice. The sound kind of reminds me of the mid-1970's... in a good way. But all kinds of mixing operations need to be done beforehand... before you get this tasty warmth.
I tested the "vari mu" plugins I have and I like the color of the UTA better. The hardware would be great but it is expensive. Having a version of this plugin for 99usd that they just lowered the price is excellent. Maybe not all of us have 10K USD to buy hardware for our studio, but this plugin works for me. A big hug.

@@johnbullen7836 I watched someone made comparison between those 1176 hardware and software. Despite UAD was the best one, it's difficult to notice any difference.
Good comparison on both counts. Maybe there are convolutions involved here; or at least some sort of sample modelling. (I find that Acustica's more recent plugins work pretty efficiently now; but, yes, that lasts up to around 4x oversampling; then you have to render offline.)
@@BF-up5xw I'm not sure if they're getting better or the computers are just getting faster. The Tim Petherick stuff is definitely worth a look and never so CPU hungry.
@@longwelsh I think it is both. Either way, they are still CPU heavy relative to a lot of other plugins. And, yes, Tim Petherick seemed to know what he was doing with that tech better than anyone else.
@@gavmurray7398 I'd be surprised if that was true. That would affect the memory it took up but I don't know how it would affect, say, oversampling. But it could be very badly coded security measures, I suppose.
not gonna lie, that's probably the most dramatic difference I've seen when the plug-in was just inserted (and NOT doing the thing it does)...really added the character in a very nice way
I good way of doing a comparison just so it's a bigger difference in sound so it is also clear to people with cheap speaker setups or headphones would be to have a track with these on a lot of channels and then have one export of this plugin used only and another swapped out and see the difference over many tracks combined... it's the best way to understand the difference in sounds something has.
4 interest free installments (costing 200/4 = 50 each) or 17,something/mo until its payed, which prolly ends up in 12, so a full year of payments, including interest fee, which would be 15 bucks, so roughly 8% if it was 12 payments.
Yes would like to see a comparison (and basically listen to the explanation of the DC..), but something that I've been wanting to see someone cover is the Kush Audio Novatron plugin. It's not anything new so maybe it's not interesting for you anymore?? but essentially it's trying to create a FET, VCA and Varimu compressor in which you can choose what type of compressor is doing the attack stage and which does the release stage. Would love to hear your take on it! (And also their other plugins are superb and based on their own hardware line)
So it's saying you can pay it in four instalments so if it's $200 then it's £50 per month over 4 months. Or you can pay as little as 17$ a month until it's paid off. Which presumably would take 11 months to pay off. But it's not cheaper
No, it definitely was wrong, but they fixed it. Right now the launch price is $99, and below it says «Pay in 4 interest-free installments of $24.75 with...»
this is source dependent, imo. I have the MDE both versions and they get consistent and irreplaceable use in my workflow; however, I feel for softer materia,l this one wins. different strokes...
This compressor blew me away and after seeing and hearing Eric’s passion about getting it right I had to try it out myself, used best on the mix bus and vocals imo … it really does the job of providing an analog sound without taking away the feel of audio like others tend to like UADs, midnightt by Acustica comes close by having a sweet high end but it lacks the power and presence that the unfairchild has
Do I need a new Fairchild compressor? No, but the GBTracker is in daily use and the 99$ is my little contribution to Eric and his team for the dedication to deliver quality content and products for the community.
Will you be doing the video series about the best compressors, eqs, etc... like you mentioned in a past video? Could you also review the Kalifornia Dynamic "Quad-Circuit Harmonics Processor" ?
I cannot do any videos but I can summary the answer for your question into one single point: The best compressor/eq is the one you are the most familiar in using to get what you want. That is literally the single most important thing in any of these. No matter how much the hardware or plugin costs and in how many list hits they are used, those will never be good for you if you struggle using them.
Mixland... they impressed me quite a lot with their VacAttack. A compressor that couldn't be simpler, but it made my mixes, well, better? I was rather surprised that it didn't get more attention from the community because I had the impression that also that thing sounded really analog.
It has a SC HP filter now, and they dropped the price by 100 bucks. Imo, this is the best sounding Fairchild style plugin on the market now. Lets see if my honeymoon phase wears off, but i'm loving it so far Btw that is basically the perfect music to test this compressor on, wow
Using 1 of the 100 highclass highres well-reviewed saturation plugins together with a stock compressor like Logics Platinum (no coloring). Isn't that what a Fairchild does - or do I miss any point here? :)
I've compared it to UAD native version. They're very similar although UAD version sounds a bit more glued off the bat but the low end falls apart ever so slightly the more you push it compared to UTA's version. Unfairchild is a bit more transparent in it's behavior and sounds a tiny bit more modern/agressive. Great video!
When I listen to the uad and unfairchild plugins I hear warmer low end and the instrument stays up-front (which I suppose makes it sound more modern like you said) with the unfairchild.

Acoustica cpu performance is because of their crappy bloatware security the cracked versions dont suffer the same cpu draw
@@gavmurray7398 I'd be surprised if that was true. That would affect the memory it took up but I don't know how it would affect, say, oversampling. But it could be very badly coded security measures, I suppose.
Man, I’d LOVE to see that plugin make it to the market! Hoping that goes well 🙂
Fingers crossed, I'm very, very critical...
@@Whiteseastudio You, nooooo never! 😂
not gonna lie, that's probably the most dramatic difference I've seen when the plug-in was just inserted (and NOT doing the thing it does)...really added the character in a very nice way
I good way of doing a comparison just so it's a bigger difference in sound so it is also clear to people with cheap speaker setups or headphones would be to have a track with these on a lot of channels and then have one export of this plugin used only and another swapped out and see the difference over many tracks combined... it's the best way to understand the difference in sounds something has.
$199 holy !!! ~~~~ ... like how can it be so much better than ( dials ) .. that much better ?
The plugin did try to unsandstorm but failed into bitcrusher darude jamsession
This indeed!
Makes sense!
No, it definitely was wrong, but they fixed it.
Right now the launch price is $99, and below it says «Pay in 4 interest-free installments of $24.75 with...»
Eric is beyond of an amazing producer and engineer, so it can only be a great plugin.
I actually really wanted to hear the explanation of DC threshold...
I miss the old Temu videos. Those were great!
I tried this against Acustica Midnight and DDMF MagicDeathEye Stereo and the MagicDeathEye actually won for me.
All great plugins though. :)
this is source dependent, imo. I have the MDE both versions and they get consistent and irreplaceable use in my workflow; however, I feel for softer materia,l this one wins. different strokes...
Acustica ultramarine is fairchild emulation, not midnight
@@EpilepsyGod from the unofficial master list:
Midnight (19.5) - The Fairchild 670 Hardware Clones Collection

Eclipse - 670M II - UnderTone Audio UnFairchild 670MII
@@pico5631 just use ultramarine, seriously
I was waiting someone compares this to MDE, which is irreplaceable for me
what reverb is on that saxophone i want to know ?
This compressor blew me away and after seeing and hearing Eric’s passion about getting it right I had to try it out myself, used best on the mix bus and vocals imo … it really does the job of providing an analog sound without taking away the feel of audio like others tend to like UADs, midnightt by Acustica comes close by having a sweet high end but it lacks the power and presence that the unfairchild has
Plug-in sounds good. Lost the chicken game around 14:53 😂
its cause they got da man! EV is a hero to 40yr old mixers like me, man has golden ears leading the plugin development
No matter how much the hardware or plugin costs and in how many list hits they are used, those will never be good for you if you struggle using them.
it's says 4 installments OR $18 a month. Only the 4 installment option is interest free. They get people with the confusing language.
welcome back 🤗👍🏻
Thanks for the video🤝
Mixland... they impressed me quite a lot with their VacAttack.
Lets see if my honeymoon phase wears off, but i'm loving it so far
Btw that is basically the perfect music to test this compressor on, wow
This is the cleanest Fairchild plugin out in my opinion
I plugin has been updated. Oversampling issue fixed. Added high pass filter and side chain
They're different because they're both modeled after two different units, lol
What does „the low end falls apart“ actually mean?
@@aaronglass890 The Uta plugin and unfairchild hardware are modeled on the 670 as are the uad plug-ins. Am I missing something?
@@guitboxgeek the unfair child is their own take on that unit. It is intentionally different. Think “inspired by” instead of cloned or replicated
Sounds great, KC1 seems to be my tube comp of choice latley
How is it compared to the "real" fairchild plugin?
It does have a side chain highpass filter; the little screw just below the left channel meter/bypass selector switch
Thanks for the video, any chance A/B with UAD Fairchild?
What's that spectrum analyzer at 10:43?
Thats the DDMF Plugindoctor
